Thursday afternoon, I had the chance to speak with the lead vocalist of one of my favorite bands, RIVAL SONS. They just released their 3rd album in the USA (March 19th) called Head Down. It's an amazing record. Jay and I discussed many a topic in the hour we conversed. We talked about the new record, Rock N Roll, Snowboarding, Touring, and a whole lot more. I really enjoyed our conversation and I hope you do as well. Get more information about Rival Sons at Their Facebook Page, HERE. Or, go to their website, HERE. And, don't forget to follow Rival Sons on Twitter. Thank you so much for listening,

This is Part 2 of my interview with Brad Meltzer. We started talking about his new book, The Fifth Assassin, which is out as of January 15th. A GREAT Read. Gripping. We discussed the secret society aspects of the book as well as how the most brilliant move George Washington may have made was putting together his spy ring for the Revolution. We talked about the history of the Deck of Cards, Presidential Assassinations, and the importance of knowing history. Get more information about Brad and his new book, The Fifth Assassin, here.

This year, we had WMMR's own Grand Mummer, Jacky Bam Bam, as well as Beru Revu drummer, Tommy Pinto and Mummers Against Cancer member, Greg Meizinger. We discussed many aspects of the mummers. It's an amazing family that does the City of Philadelphia proud year round. New Years Day on Broad Street is one of the many GREAT traditions that makes Philadelphia unique. You can get more information on how to become a mummer, here. See you on Broad Street on New Years Day. Look for WMMR's Jacky Bam Bam strutting for the Golden Sunrise of the Fancies on Broad. Then, head over to 2 Street for the party. Rock On! Thanks for listening,

Rival Sons Guitarist, Scott Holiday, chats with Markus

Over the weekend, I had a chance to chat with Scott Holiday, guitarist of Rival Sons. This is a band to watch in 2013. We spoke in great detail about the making of the new record, Head Down, How the band formed, came up with a name, their influences, their work ethic, their Rock N Roll philosophy, opening for AC/DC, Evanescence & Alice Cooper, being introduced by Gene Simmons, live shows and more. This is a band who gets Rock N Roll. They have a modern sound with an old school vibe.

They have an album being released in the USA officially in February 2013 called Head Down. It is available on Itunes now as the album was released in Europe in September. I highly recommend you give it a listen. It is a Dirty Feel Good Booty Shakin' Bluesy Rock N Roll Record with Attitude. What really blew me away was the first time I put Head Down on and Mike Miley's drum beats on the first song, Keep On Swinging, got my attention. Right as my attention was caught by the beat of Mike Miley's drums, Scott Holiday's guitar smacked my upside the head and I was pulled in. Robin Everhart's Bass fills out the groove and then the unique, powerful, old soul voice of Jay Buchanan completes the picture. With other feel good booty shakers on the record like You Want To, Wild Animal (very psych pop), Until The Sun Comes, All The Way and Three Fingers. Along with the beautiful instrumental Nava, The Heist, Jordan, Run From Revelation, Manifest Destiny pt. 1, Manifest Destiny Pt.2 and ending with the beautiful true to end the record. Get more information at their website, here.

Thank you for taking time to listen,

Sunday night, October 28th, before The Deftones took stage at The Electric Factory, I sat with Chino Moreno and Abe Cunningham in their dressing room to talk about Koi No Yokan, their 7th Studio album. It drops on November 13th. Two songs, Tempest and Leather are available, plus they have been playing Poltergeist and Rosemary Live. We discussed the making of the new record in detail and talked about a few other things, like if the guys have any regrets and more. They were so fantastic Sunday Night at The Factory. You can get all the Deftones information you need at their website. Also, be sure to follow them on Twitter and FB. Thanks for listening. Rock On!

Last week, Marilyn Manson called WMMR and we chatted for quite a while about a wide range of topics. Some of what Marilyn Manson shared included:

*How the O2 Led Zeppelin show in London had an impact on him and helped him reconnect with Twiggy Ramirez.

*Find out what book is the Greatest Horror Novel ever written, according to Marilyn

*The new record Born Villain: How it was written and recorded. Johnny Depp playing guitar and drums on the bonus hidden track, a cover of Carly Simon's, You're So Vain. How the album was different than his previous few records and more.

*The upcoming Twins of Evil Tour with Rob Zombie. October 19th, 2012, Susquehanna Bank Center indoors in Camden, NJ.

*Absinthe - Marilyn's brand. Tasting party after the show.

*His childhood as well as why he got kicked out of Christian School during his youth

*Shenanigans with Korn On tour years ago

Marilyn shares an interesting perspective and outlook on life. I really enjoyed chatting with him. You can get more information about the new record, Born Villain, here. Follow Manson at his website and on facebook. Thanks for listening.
Dan Auerbach - The Black Keys

Tonight, before The Black Keys took stage, I had a chance to sit down with Dan Auerbach, guitarist and lead vocalist. Really enjoyed our conversation. We talked about the new record, touring in arenas vs. small clubs, working with DangerMouse, Playing on the Buddy Holly Tribute Record, the story behind Little Black Submarines, his offer to the WMMR listeners if they vote for The Black Keys in March Madness and what's next in 2012 for The Black Keys. A lot of the background noise you hear is the Arctic Monkeys laying down a great set to get the crowd moving. During the interview, Pat Carney was playing ping pong right outside the door. I really want to play him in a best of five ping pong match.

At 9:32 they opened a blistering 90 minute set with Howlin' For You and Next Girl. This set the already hyped crowd into a slathering frenzy, me included. This was by far one of the best concerts of 2012. They had a couple of friends playing on stage with them as well, on guitar and keys. They played hard and furious and almost everyone in the arena was on their feet moving the entire time. Dead and Gone into Gold On The Ceiling was amazing as well. I got really stoked when they chased Gold with Thickfreakness and Girl Is On My Mind. Little Black Submarines is my favorite song on the El Camino album and it sounded amazing live because they really did an incredible job playing acoustic into full electric and just wrecking the arena. They continued to rock Philly closing out the show with Tighten Up into Lonely Boy before hitting the encore. I came into work this evening so jacked on adrenaline from seeing The Black Keys live that it did not fade the entire shift. I highly recommend that if you get a chance to see The Black Keys when they come back into the area, you do. You will leave smiling ear to ear. They know how to put on a rock show the right way.

Markus

Thanks to Tom Collins of RockNShots Live for the live shot of The Black Keys. Check out his photos of the concert here.

Run Right Back

Same Old Thing

Dead and Gone

Gold on the Ceiling

Encore:
Everlasting Light

Today, Billy Duffy, guitarist of The Cult called WMMR to talk about their new record, the upcoming tour and a whole lot more. Their new CD, Choice Of Weapon, drops on May 22nd and they will be at The Electric Factory Rockin' Philly on June 10th with Icarus Line and Against Me as the opening acts. Billy spoke openly about the new record as well as bringing in Bob Rock to finish the record when they hit a wall. Has Billy Duffy ever written a Cult lyric? The answer is in the interview. Billy also shares what we can expect from The Cult live on this tour. The fans are in for a real treat. Billy also revealed the first four songs Billy and Ian ever wrote together. It was great chatting with him and seeing them live will be awesome. Get more info about The Cult here. And their Facebook link is here. The Cult will also be playing live on Jimmy Kimmel, May 18th at midnight.
