Any ideas?

In the meantime, I thought I would share a workaround for those Windows Live Sync users who are still on XP and will be sent offline sometime next year when Windows discontinues Live Sync for XP users. I am no computer expert, so someone may find a problem with this, but it has worked for me thus far. Note: I have only synced my photos and music so far between a Macbook and XP machine.

The short of it: I set up a networked drive on my XP machine from my Macbook using LogMeIn Himachi2 and then used Allway Sync to sync my networked Mac drive with a local XP drive.

Both programs are free for personal use but means that this set up requires at least one XP (or Windows Vista/7) machine.

Using Hamachi2 I have set up a VPN between my Macbook and XP machine and then set up shared folders that I want to keep in sync between the two machines. To gain access to my Mac folders from my XP machine, I mapped a network drive on my XP of my Macbook folders I want to sync, using the Himachi2 provided network address, not a local network (e.g.192.168.xx.xx), since I wanted this to work outside of my local network.

I then used Allway Sync to set up my syncing (which runs on Windows only). I linked my XP folders to my Mac networked folders. Allway Sync allows you to use network drives, which is why this has worked so far. It also has an automatic function, so it's close to a "set it and forget it" scenario, like Windows Live Sync. I have had to re-enter my Mac username and password to log on to my network drive upon restarting my XP even though I told it to reconnect to the drive on restart, so this is not 100% set it and forget it. But there may be a workaround for this as well.

As with Windows Live Sync, this only works when both computers are online and linked via Hamachi2 (or a local network, if that is the set up you use and only care to sync when within that network).

Hope this helps XP Windows Live Sync users.

Kate! (RTM), a free online task manager, for a month or so now to keep track of things I need to get done. Novel, I know. RTM is very versatile in that you can create any number of lists for categorizing different tasks. For instance, we use it to keep track of our shopping lists. We created lists for Costco, Trader Joe's, and Save Mart and then shared those lists between our accounts. Whenever we think of something we need from one of the stores, we add it to the list. Then before one of us goes to the store, we check the list for items we need, and once we purchase the items, remove them from the list. We also created a filter to combine all of the shopping lists as a Master Shopping list which can then be easily printed out to take along to the store. You can also prioritize and schedule tasks (or items on the shopping list) and receive reminders via email or text message when they are due.

But a few weeks back I had an epiphany: I can use RTM to help me keep a schedule for memorizing Scripture. If there is one thing I have encountered in memorizing scripture it is the failure to review passages I learned in the past. RTM is a great way to help maintain a review schedule. Here is what I have done:

1) Create a new list called "Memory Verses"
2) Create a new task in that list using the verse reference as the task name (e.g. 1 Peter 1:1-4).
3) Add a note to each task. The note holds the text for the verse.
4) Tag the verse either as daily, weekly, or monthly, depending on the review schedule for that verse.
5) Create a due date and a repeating schedule for each verse: daily, weekly, or monthly
6) Create a "Smart List" for each of the tags daily, weekly, monthly. (This allows me to quickly view all of the verses in each category (tag)).
7) Finally, set up an email reminder in your settings to send you an email (or text) reminder each day for the verses you need to review. If you own and iPhone or iPod touch and want to pay $25, you can download the RTM app and use it to manage your tasks. Otherwise, you will need to login to your account to review your verses.

The idea behind tagging and scheduling is this: you start first by viewing and reviewing a new verse daily. Once you think you have it memorized, you change the tag and repeating schedule to weekly. When you feel you don't need to review it on a weekly basis, you change it to a monthly tag and schedule. And there it stays indefinitely (unless you want to set up another schedule, like annual). Not only will you review all of your verses on a monthly basis, you will have a running log of all of the verses you have memorized.

If you haven't worked with RTM, give it a try. It takes a while to get used to the interface, but once you understand it, it is a great way to hide His word in your heart.

Long for the pure milk of the Word!

The Faithfulness of Christ - Timothy Brindle

I have included the lyrics below, which I found here.

The question is, "Would I be able to succinctly summarize these great truths as Shai Linne has?"

"Atonement Q&A" Lyrics
by Shai Linne | from the album The Atonement

Verse 1

Who is God? God is the universe’s Creator

And Sustainer plus the only Savior, there is no one greater

He triune, holy, omnipotent, omniscient, absolute

Loving, sovereign and righteous are a few of His attributes

How do we know this? Well, we know this from the Bible

Where God has revealed Himself- anything else is just an idol

What’s the Bible about? Man’s complete ruin in sin

And what God has done in Christ to bring us to Him again

What is sin? Sin is the breaking of God’s law

Plus our condition, which means from birth we all got flaws

What’s the result? The result is by nature we’re God’s enemies

And must pay the penalty unless God provides the remedy

What the remedy? The remedy is the cross of Christ

Where He suffered all the strikes for the lawless type

I’ve been rescued by the Lamb, I’m convinced that He’s risen

And blessed is the man whose sins are forgiven!

Chorus

Just fall back, and with the eyes of faith

Behold the beauty of surprising grace

Because the Lamb has died, third day He had to rise

He’s magnified- God’s wrath is satisfied

Just fall back- there’s an atonement now

The cross of Christ is holy ground

Because the Lamb has died, third day He had to rise

He’s magnified- God’s wrath is satisfied

Verse 2

Regeneration- the Holy Spirit’s true work in His love

To the elect, who receive new birth from above

Expiation- expiation means God’s removed my filthiness

The old testament type was the goat into the wilderness

Redemption- we’ve been freed from slavery to sin

And His very own blood is the price He paid, my friend

Propitiation- Propitiation means since the Lamb has died

His work is finished- God’s wrath is satisfied

Adoption- adoption means God is now my Father

I got the hottest Poppa and by the Spirit holler Abba

Reconciliation means there’s no more enmity

God is now a friend to me, we’re no longer enemies

Justification- God declares us righteous

Sanctification- we’re being made into His likeness

Glorification- that’s what happens at the finish

When God conforms believers perfectly to Christ’s image!

Chorus

Verse 3

God’s grace is magnificent, He slayed His innocent

Son- through faith and repentance we get the benefits

What is faith? Faith is a gift from God- when we receive this

We trust and treasure the person and finished work of Jesus

Repentance? Repentance is turning from your sin

And trusting Christ as the Spirit cleanses you within

What is grace? Oh, grace is unmerited favor

Our inheritance major ‘cause we cherish the Savior

Right, and if I may quote again, we were doomed with Satan

But believers get Jesus’ righteousness through imputation

Imputation? God takes Jesus’ righteousness amount

Through faith He credits it into the Christian’s account

Anything else? Well, I guess this overview must suffice

But none of this is possible apart from union with Christ

And finally, once you know the ways of the Lord than the

only thing that you can say is Soli Deo Gloria!

Happy Birthday James!

Well it's been a while since our last post, but we have been a bit busy. The Lord has blessed us with a beautiful home close to many from our church family. We moved in a couple of weeks ago and have been quickly settling in. We also celebrated James' first birthday on Saturday. What a great blessing from the Lord he is. It is amazing to think that the love we have for our son is only a tiny reflection of the love God has for His children--bumps, bruises, and all.

Here are a few pictures from the small party we had for James.

Fallen by Matthew Raley

[POTENTIAL SPOILER ALERT: I am trying not to spoil anything. Most of this can be deduced from the back cover. You have been duly warned!]

We just finished reading Matthew Raley's novel, Fallen. What an intriguing and insightful story!

Matt recently preached at our church while our pastor and his family were on vacation. A gifted preacher, he is also a gifted writer. He tackles a topic most Christian authors wouldn't touch: a pastor's adultery. The topic alone is enough to keep you reading, but what made this such an interesting read were Matt's insights into man's dark nature and the extent to which he will go to pursue sin. He also provides insightful commentary on the contemporary church and what results from preaching a "weak", or dare I say, "false" gospel.

From the back cover:

"It could have been nothing. Jim was finishing the day’s work when his eyes drifted over to the coffee shop visible from his office window. An attractive woman driving an expensive car pulled up to the curb . . . and out stepped Dave, Jim’s young, married pastor. It could have been nothing. Still . . .

“For a while I tried to convince myself that a pastor sometimes rides in a Mercedes with a woman who’s not his wife. But the more I tried to imagine the scenarios, the less I could believe it.”

As chairman of his church board, Jim feels duty-bound to confront Dave. But as he begins to explore his pastor’s private life he uncovers secrets that could destroy his church and ruin reputations. In his desperate attempts to find the truth, Jim is forced to confront a dark place in his own past—but will he have the courage to face what he finds?"

This book isn't just shear entertainment; it will cause you to think about your own sinful tendencies and the lies you might find yourself telling others and yourself in order to cover them up. But it also offers the hope that true and full repentance brings.

If you enjoy a good novel, pick up Fallen.

4th of July Weekend

We had a great time spending fourth of July weekend with my family up north.
