Mount Evans

Colorado has a lot of 14ers, or mountains over 14,000 feet. Lots of people like the challenge of hiking up these mountains. I am not one of those people (yet?) Recently I realized that there are a couple of 14ers that you can drive to the top of. Views from the top of the world with little effort, count me in.

In June, our family drove to the top of Mount Evans. It was cold and windy but we managed to hike up the final few hundred feet for some really great views.

On the way back down, we were able to observe a mountain goat and her baby navigating the rocky slopes with ease. It was pretty spectacular.

Big Boy Bed

It is hard to let your youngest child grow up. Last month, we finally moved Drew out of his crib (that he climbed out of regularly anyway). It was sad to break it down, but he has transitioned to his toddler bed without any issues.

Now to work on getting rid of the pacifier and potty training.

VBS

Our girls got to attend VBS at a friends church last month. They loved all of the themed days.

Camping at Ogallala

The first weekend in June, we drove to Nebraska for our first family camping trip. The main attraction was being able to camp on a lake. It was a sweet time and we even got to go to the big lake on a pontoon boat (last picture).

Field Day

I am a little out of order with posting... guess that is what happens when you take such a long break.

Anyway, Malia and Davey finished their school year at their options program with field day which includes games, sugar and face paint. We are grateful for our school community.

Ready for the pool

We were at our neighborhood pool on opening day and my girls were the first people in the pool for the season. They all passed the swim test on the first day which means they can go in the deep end without an adult. It took Drew a couple of weeks to warm up to the pool, but this week he was jumping into Andrew and not freaking out when he got water in his face.

Twinning

As they get older, Davey and Naomi are becoming better buddies and enjoy playing together more and more. Recently they wore matching outfits and hairstyles.

Chicken Costume

Drew does not generally like to dress up. Occasionally a costume will strike him though... like this chicken costume... that he wore to the park... when it was hot out.

Dog sitting

In May, our neighbors asked us to watch their dog for a few days. The girls were so excited, especially Naomi, who took her responsibilities very seriously.

New curriculm

Two weeks ago I was able to exchange our curriculum through the homeschool options program we are a part of. The girls we so excited when I brought home all of the new books and workbooks (and so was I). So we are slowly starting our new school year. Hard to believe I have a fifth, third and kindergartener.

I have to mention that Davey has worked her way through 7 weeks of spelling already... this from the girl who, throughout the real school year, complained everyday we had to do school... go figure!

Earring Changes

Naomi has developed a deep love for all things Santa since this last Christmas season (and we are not even big Santa people). In February the girls were able to change their earrings and she went directly to a Santa pair.

The Zoo

Last month a friend invited me to join her at the zoo. Malia and Davey were at their Options program so it was the perfect opportunity for me to have an outing with just my littles... to move at their pace and to be in awe as they are by different animals.

Kitchen Helpers

The girls have become legitimate helpers in the kitchen over the last few months. Last week, Naomi made a smoothie (with a little help from me), Davey made Banana Bread and Malia made Mac and Cheese. Of course, we still need to work on their clean up skills but it nice to see more capable hands in the kitchen.

Eagle Class

At the end of January, Davey, Naomi and I attended an eagle class at a local nature center. I had no idea what to expect, but I was definitely not expecting to sit in the front row and be just a few feet away from both a golden and a bald eagle. We learned a lot and got to observe these beautiful birds up close.

Ski School

Back in January, the girls and I drove up to Breckenridge for the day. Colorado has a free pass for elementary aged kids to ski with and it even comes with a free day of ski school! (This is a $195 per kid value).

Gluing

Drew came up with this activity on his own one day and has repeated it several times. He just glues stuff on paper and loves it. I am always surprised that he doesn't make a bigger mess.

Wrapped up...

We have been wrapped up in school and computers crashing and furniture moving and laundry and work and play and I haven't posted in so long. Sorry. Now that our computer is set up again I should be able to catch up.

Ears Pierced

One of our Christmas presents to the girls was to let them get their ears pierced. All 3 reacted very differently, I wish I had video. Davey was stone cold tough, Naomi was loud and teary, and Malia was queasy. But they all did it and are excited to be able to change their earrings in another month or so.

We stayed at home for Christmas morning this year for the first time since right after Malia was born. Andrew's parents and Grandma joined us and we had a great day opening gifts, playing and crafting.

This year we ventured back up to the mountains to cut down our Christmas tree. It is a fun way to get a very inexpensive tree ($10).
