I would also like to celebrate the newcomer Gabourey Sidibe; who i felt deserved an Oscar for her breathtaking performance of "Claireece Precious Jones" in the heart wrenching movie Precious.

Mo'Nique proved that she was more than a "funny lady" in her stunning portrayal of Precious's mother in the moving movie called Precious.

Sandra Bullock a woman after my own heart; clearly shows that if you work hard at your craft putting in your heart and soul someone or people are bound to notice your talent. She also showed that there is a time to shine. She also tugged at the heartstrings of "us mothers" in this movie.

Gabby [Gabourey Sidibe] an evolving actress to watch out for is a true case of believing that in just one day your life could turn around and jump sky high to unimaginable heights.
As Oprah Winfrey said at the Awards night; She was just a school girl trying to make money to complete her college education.

On Monday she cut school to audition for the role of "Claireece Precious Jones"

On Tuesday she got a call back

On Wednesday she was selected for the role of a lifetime.

Join me today in celebrating the showmanship of these three great ladies who rightly deserved their nominations and or Oscar wins.

Believe that you too would one day win "big" in your life; just believe and dedicate yourself to your job or craft or business.

Winc

I especially mourn and celebrate all the women who formed most of the dead in the the recent slaughter of people in Dogo Nahawa a village in the outskirts of Jos.

Why this senseless Tragedy? Why can't Muslims and Christians live together? Where is Religious Tolerance?
Where were the Police? Where are our Leaders?

Is there no more Peace or Sleep for the people of Jos? What is the root cause of this continuous Violence, Killing and Mayhem?

Women who have toiled and slaved for their families, had their lives cut short by this senseless killing and mayhem.

I pray for their souls and for those they left behind, especially the children who would have no one to "mother" them.
It seems surreal to us to imagine survival with out our wealth/riches, “door opening last name” and high society friends.

But remember riches or wealth do not make a man as this may be transient if not well managed; Strength of character and purpose mixed with a little wisdom could take you much farther.

Pertinent Questions - If I throw these questions at you;

Which spoon is in your kid’s/Child’s mouth would you be able to answer?

Would you be certain that you are preparing him or her to face the dynamic ever changing world we live in today? Where you could be rich today and poor tomorrow and vice versa.

Are we laying the basic foundation for them which will be the stepping stone to what they could achieve in their time here on earth?

Laying the Foundation

We owe them as parents the following in no particular order;

Love that encompasses all family, friends and foe.

Emotional strength to withstand and accept various happenings

Discipline of character and mind

Education of the mind

General training across various facets of home and society

Guidance and purposeful direction in Life as they grow up

Leadership by example

Protection from Societal Ills and Negativity

Belief in self and capabilities [Be their greatest cheerleaders]

Believe in God and his creation

There may be more, but these would go along way in ensuring that we don’t turn out kids/children who are already pre-destined to fail.

We must put in some real time, effort and wisdom, we owe it to them as parents and custodians.

Take charge of your kids/children's future today!

Technorati Tags: Parenting,Growing Kids,Growing Children

Winc

Woman you can hold up half the sky!

You pick the wrong person because you expect him/her to change after you're married.A classic mistake many females make.

"You actually can expect people to change after their married...for the worst!"

What you should look out for;

Strength of character

Habits

Communication skills

His Friends

His Goals in Life

Innate Goodness/Kindness

Spirituality

How he treats his Mother

Joy in his life

Intellect

2. You pick the wrong person because you focus more on chemistry than their character.

Chemistry ignites the fire, but continuous fanning [Love, Tolerance, Appreciation and Wisdom] will keep the flames alive

There are three basic ways we connect with another person wholesomely;

Chemistry with emotional connection

Common interests and goals

Mutual Respect and Admiration

3. You pick the wrong person because you choose someone with whom you don't feel emotionally safe.

Ask yourself the following questions:

Do I feel calm, peaceful and relaxed with this person? I am I being me or acting out a role

Can I fully be myself and express myself with this person? Not walk on eggshells around him so as not to set him off

Does this person make me feel good about myself? Not a Control freak.

4. You pick the wrong person because you don't put everything on the table.

Anything that bothers you about the relationship must be brought up for discussion.

Talk about how you feel when he upsets you

Talks about things he does that you don’t like

Talk! Talk! and Talk till you are blue in the face.

It is better to trash things out before marriage than bottle everything up and then explode during the marriage which may have dire consequences

Bringing up the uncomfortable stuff is the only way to evaluate how well the two of you communicate, negotiate, and work together. Over the course of a lifetime, difficulties will inevitably arise. You need to know now, before making a commitment

5. You pick the wrong person because you use the relationship to escape from personal problems and unhappiness.

If you are unhappy and single, you'll probably be unhappy and married, too.

Marriage does not fix personal, psychological and emotional problems. If anything, marriage will exacerbate them.
If you are not happy with yourself and your life, take responsibility to fix it now while you are single.

You'll feel better and your future spouse will thank you.

6. You pick the wrong person because you jump in bed too quickly.

This can be a big problem because it often precludes a fully honest exploration of important issues. Sexual relations between 2 people are at times mistaken for love and tends to cloud one's judgement Bad judgement results in negative impacting results.

In a relationship they are more important things that should be considered before you embark on sexual relations [Some may choose to wait until marriage].

Things to look out for are;

Intellectual Compatibility

Emotional Compatibility

Spiritual Compatibility

You don't have to worry about sexual compatibility. Of all the studies on divorce, sexual incompatibility is never cited as a main reason why people divorce.

7.You pick the wrong person because the man doesn't understand what a woman needs most.

Men and women have unique emotional needs and more often than not, it is the man who just doesn't get it.

Jewish tradition places the onus on the man to understand the emotional needs of the woman and to satisfy them.

The unique needs of a woman is to be;

Loved

Appreciated

When the man forgets about his own needs and focuses on giving his wife pleasure, amazing things will happen.

8. You pick the wrong person because he/she is involved in a triangle. To be "triangulated" means a person is emotionally dependent on someone for something else while trying to develop another relationship.

A person who hasn't separated from his or her parents is a classic example of triangulation.

People can also be triangulated with things as well, such as ;

Work

Drugs

Internet

Hobbies

Sports

Money

Be careful that you and your partner are free of triangles. The person caught in a triangle cannot be fully emotionally available to you. You'll not be their number one priority. And that's not basis for a marriage.

With divorce rates the world over sky rocketing, be careful as you choose a life partner so that you too do not become a “statistic”.

Please share this with your friends.

Kindly leave your opinions or experiences in the comments!

Technorati Tags: Celebrating women,Single Ladies,Single Women,Marriage

Winc

Woman you can hold up half the sky!

Today we celebrate women all over you find themselves in so called "unhappy marriages".

I believe that you are the architect of your own destiny and if you focus on giving of yourself to others, you would find peace, experience joy and personal satisfaction and ultimately happiness.

To all women in so called "unhappy marriages" I call on you to imbibe these guiding principles;

Die to self - i.e. focus on being good all the time to your husband

Give! Give! and Give some more - without any expected returns

Love unconditionally - even if your husband seems standoffish.

Invite God into your Marriage - without God we are ultimately nothing.

Let your Husband Lead - Men are ego freaks and if they feel threatened in a relationship they become angry and resistant.

This seems weak, passive or submissive you may say; but know that you have to stoop to conquer and if you can practice this constantly you would find positive changes in most husbands.

Also remember that the woman orchestrates her marriage; you unconsciously are the "star actor" and director in the your own home movie.

We celebrate the new "happy" you which will emerge after these positive changes in your attitude.

Good Luck as you work on revamping yourself to attract resultant positivity in your husband!!!!

Mom has been married for 40 years, bore 6 children while holding down a full time job as a Teacher/Educationists [with a postgraduate degree in tow].

She is still tirelessly fulfilling her role as a wife , mother and grandmother as well has a running her own private school and selflessly serving the Lord.

She amazes me with her;

Boundless energy at 62+

Giving of her self any time she is called upon

Steady and strong faith in God and his goodness.

Continued devotion to the same man for 40 years

Continous mothering of 6 Children, 5 Grandchildren and all the kids at her school.

Holding down a career in Education for over 4 decades.

Join me in saying Kudos to my "Darling Mom" who is still mothering me devotedly- a woman who is definitely "Holding Up Half Her Sky" and more.
[Chinese Proverb]. This is a proverb I live by.

I believe that as a Women we actually Hold up Half the Sky in this crazy world we live in today. We love, manage and control the home front, our men, our children who are future leaders of tomorrow and we also manage and direct our teams at work [Various facets of Industry and Government].
What more can you ask for, "our love and actions" makes the world go round.

For me no mountain is too high to climb or any river too wide to cross; I fanatically believe this and it pushes me to strive even harder with each passing day as I go through life.
Bear in mind that people would always make mistakes as no one is perfect, but the resultant actions we take in reaction to this mistake while in a rage may hunt us for the rest of our lives – so be warned.

Think before you act: Always pause and ponder before taking action or speaking – A wise man always weighs his words before speaking.

Be Patient and Kind: It costs you absolutely nothing.

Never take your Spouse for granted: We do this all too often.

Hold your spouse close to your heart: Else you wake up one day and realize you have lost a “diamond” because you were too busy collecting “stones”

They also seem to think that the solution to their unhappiness or dissatisfaction lies outside the marriage.

But little do they know, because the answer or solution to their dilemma lies within the marriage.

Of course you could actually fall in love with someone else and temporarily you would feel better and after a few years you would find yourself in the same situation you where in your previous marriage or relationship.

The key to a successful marriage is not finding the right person "but learning to love the person you found".

Sustaining love in your marriage is not a passive or spontaneous act; it takes a whole lot of dedication and labour to "keep the love alive".

You have to work at it day in day out; that is why the expression "Labour of Love" is true to a T.
It takes

Time

Effort

Energy and

Wisdom

to "keep love alive" in your marriage.

Some of us delude ourselves that love is a mystery - this is not true at all.

They are specific things that you must do to keep the Love alive in your marriage [with or without the participation of your spouse]

Continues....................

Winc

Woman you can hold up half the sky!

(1)

In some of your low moments have you asked yourself this question; Did I Marry the right Person?
We must realize that our marriage/relationship like all others has a life cycle;

In the Beginning - You fell madly in love with each other, anticipated each others calls and touch and liked each other's peculiarities.

After a few years of Marriage - Some kids have come along, the euphoria of love has faded, the phone calls are far and in between and may at time be a bother. Touch is not always welcome. Those kinky peculiarities become irritation and annoying.

At this stage you may begin to ask yourself;
• Did I Marry the right Person?

Have I made a Mistake?

If this stage is not handled properly it may lead to a complete breakdown of your marriage.

Most couples blame each other for their unhappiness and think the solution lies outside the marriage;

With someone else or

In work or

Church or

In a new hobby or

A friend

But most interestingly the answer to this dilemma you find yourself in does not lie outside your marriage, it lies within.

Manager

Nurse/Doctor

Cook

Cleaner

Chauffeur

Laundry woman

Personal shopper

Accountant

Designer

Therapist

Spiritual guide

Teacher

Playmate

Confidant

Maid

Butler

Receptionist/Secretary

Greatest Advocate

Employee

Business woman

Wearing all these hats and maybe more is not an easy task at all we often end up over used, stressed out and unrecognized.
Most mothers and wives feel unappreciated and somewhat resentful that no one is saying "Thanks" or "A job well done" or offering some "Rewards"
I personally think that you could initiate an open discussion with your husbands and children; telling them how you feel, they would make small changes in attitudes that could grow to big ones.
This though will not offer you full satisfaction.

What should give you ultimate satisfaction is that fact that you are a multi-tasking, talented, organized, courageous, dependable, achiever who is an unsung "Super hero". And that you are the major driving force in your household/family.
Most importantly know that you are grooming and growing children who have a future and who you would be proud of. You would hold up your head and say to your self I did a "damn" good job.

On the husband front know that you are totally providing the needed push to achieve great heights and that you are fulfilling all your marriage vows and some more.......
But bear in mind you are totally in control, with out you the husband is more often that not like" a little babe in the woods". Learn to work this in ways unknown to men.

Lastly just know and accept that this is the "Bane of Womanhood"; we are made that way to care, worry, fix and support everyone and anyone. Our real reward is in Heaven.

Even the most supportive and caring husbands or children often take so much for granted in the home.

Feel give give some of your own pointers here!

Today - Valentine day was a day filled with love and cheer in my household.

We started the day by going to church to thank God for keeping us safe and sound. The priest preached that we should try to share love not only with family members and friends but also with the less fortunate.

Next we then headed on to the shops to do some shopping and but some rich sinful cake for the valentine.

Then we set off home to eat, drink and bond. [Though the hussy had to go out for a business meeting and was gone most of the day- he was stuck in traffic;called us severally and came back home tired and hungry]

Mummy and the kids had fun, eating, playing, and learning [There was no outing today; yesterday I took them out to have water fun, eat out and visit relatives].

We also called out to family and friends to share the love this Valentine.

The bottom line is that we had some family time filled with love, laughter, fun and lots of good cheer. And we did some good to others less fortunate.

For you I hope you had family/friends and love to share; this is more important than even the most expensive gifts in the world. "But a mix of both is definitely exhilarating".

See my past Valentine posts......here

Please share your Valentine day experience with us.

Does this outrageous question confuse you?

Don't be Confused! Most new mothers tend to focus all their energy and resources on their new born some how neglecting the husband/man.

I was guilty of this "twice"; my husband finally shared his concerns with me four months after the birth of my second child. He said he felt like a stranger in his home and that he also felt useless and unloved.

I usually am on overdrive after the birth of my baby and I just focus on caring for the baby; breast feeding, diaper changes, baths, and so much more. I found I was often stressed out and exhausted with little or no time to care or worry about my husband.
I just found my self watching over my babies like a hawk to exclusion of almost everything and everyone else.

Maybe it is our mothering instincts at play compounded by the fact that your newborn is helpless, very fragile and totally dependent on you.

But the reality is that the marriage or union suffers as the husband/man feels useless, unloved and uncared for. And you know them; they are real big babies themselves.

The onus is on us mothers "again" to try to find a safe balance between mothering and wife-hood; so that we still show love and care to our husbands/man.
I tell you this balancing act is a precarious one and you have to constantly work at it.

I suggest you try to get your husband/man involved in the caring of your new born so you have more time to relax and you are not stressed out and exhausted.
If there are other kids you may want to allow your husband/man care for them while you focus on caring for the new born; this way two of you get things done together more efficiently and have some quality time to spend with each other.

Are you guilty of having an "Affair" with your baby? Please share your feelings and experiences here.
When a woman falls pregnant for the first time little does she know that she is about the embark on the most life changing experience of her life.

With this first foray into Parenthood, you may want to examine your current lifestyle choices as you prepare for your newest family member.

At the early stage of your pregnancy you may be challenged in many ways; from mood swings, to nausea, to vomitting, to abdominal pain to physical exertion to changing feeding habits and so much more.

The reality is that during the 9 months of your pregnancy you would experience, several changes; emotional, physical and even mental.

Some of us are lucky to escape many common symptoms and signs of prenancy while others get the full dose and more.

Women have been known to handle pregnancies differnetly based on their specific circumstances, beliefs, will powers and other varying factors. So do not compare your self to anyone, handle your pregnancy in your own way and to the best of your ability.

Scientifically childbirth usually occurs approximatel 38 - 40 weeks after your last menstrual period. there are several exceptions to this rule which may coour due to varying reasons; premature births, multiples delivery, medical complications and extended pregnancies.

Your Conception:
Pregnancy usually coccurs as a result of sexual relations/intercourse between a man and a woman; thereafter the female gamete merges with the male gamete [Spermatozoa] in a process called fertilzation or more commonly known as conception. The result is the formation of an egg.
More scientific methods like Artificial insemination and in Vitro fertilization could also bring about conception/pregnancy.
After conception you may experience varied symptoms/signs which are associated with the onset of pregancy.
Although not all of these signs are universally present, nor are all of them diagnostic by themselves, taken together they make a presumptive diagnosis of pregnancy.
These signs include but are not limited to:

The presence of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in the blood and urine

Missed menstrual period

Your Pregnancy:
Your pregancy if normal and uneventful may last between any where from 38-40 weeks.
Medically pregnancy is believed to have begun when the embryo is planted in the Uterus.

First Trimester [0-3 Months]:
The impalnted Embryo undergoes tremendous growth and changes during this period.
Your doctor would make sure you have enough Vitamin B/Folic Acid during this period [prevents serious birth defects].
Most miscarriages also occur during this period.
During this period most women may experience;

Darkened Nipples and Areolas

Second Trimester [4-6 months]:

Most women feel more energized during this period and also begin to gain weight as symptoms of morning sickness begins to fade away.

During this period you may begin to feel the movement of the Feutus.

The placenta is fully fucntional now and the Feutus also begins to produce insulin and urinate.

At twenty weeks you are due for an Anomaly scan - that basically confirms the state and the sex of the baby

Read full details of my Anomaly scan here

Third Trimester [7- Due date]
During this trimester ;

You will gain the most weight as compared to the first 6 months of your pregnancy.

The Feutus or your baby will also grow most rapidly during this period as it prepares to join the world.

You stomach/belly will change in shape and protude significantly and would drop down low as your due date draws near and the baby's head engages in preparation for delivery.

In some cases [like mine] you navel will become convex and pop out due to your expanding abdomen.

Fetal movement is usually quite strong during this period.

You will experience "Braxton Hicks" contractions during this period

You become more uncomfortable and may experience a weak baldder and back aches

Sleeping comfortably during this period is also quite an uphill task.

Your bags should be long packed in readiness for the hospital

Your Delivery/ Childbirth:

The process of normal childbirth is broken down into three stages;

Latent Stage: Labour may last anywhere from some minutes to several days with contractions which are the intensification of the Braxton Hicks contractions

Shortening and Dilation of the Cervix: This begins when the thinned Cervix is 3cm dilated and may lead to a rupture of membranes or a blood stained "show",

Descent and birth of the infant/baby: This occurs from when the cervix is fully dilated to when the baby is finally born. As the pressure on the cervix increases there is increased uterine contractions so that the baby can be born. The baby's head is fully engaged during this time and birth of the head of the baby signifies a sucessful birth/delivery.

Delivery of the Placenta: The uterus expels the placenta [also called after birth] within 15 to 30 minutes after the birth of the baby.

Prenatal Development/ Abdominal growth:

I hope this weekend will go smoothly and promise me unlimited bliss and rest.
I wish you all a blissful, jolly and promising weekend.
