Each October, the world turns pink to honour Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In Bahrain, this month carries special weight, marking not just solidarity but also decades of progress in how women approach, detect and fight the disease.

What was once shrouded in silence is now spoken of openly with greater awareness, stronger healthcare initiatives and women’s voices leading the way.

From Awareness to Action

In 2005, Bahrain took a historic step when the Bahrain Cancer Society and the Ministry of Health launched the National Campaign for the Early Detection of Breast Disease. For the first time, women across the Kingdom were actively encouraged to perform self-exams, undergo mammograms and speak openly about their breast health.

The results were significant. Data from the Bahrain Cancer Registry revealed a decline in age-standardised incidence rates, from 58.2 per 100,000 in 2000 to 44.4 in 2010, not because the disease had vanished but because it was being caught earlier. The campaign helped shift the culture from fear and late diagnosis toward prevention and proactive care.

The Power of Early Detection

For Dr. Sally Adnan Aljubour, Consultant General Laparoscopic and Breast Surgery at Royal Bahrain Hospital, the message is simply: timing saves lives.

“Catching breast cancer at an earlier stage dramatically increases the chances of successful treatment and a full recovery,” she says. “Early detection significantly improves treatment outcomes and survival rates.”

She advises women to prioritise three steps: monthly self-exams, clinical breast exams by a specialist and regular mammograms after 40. “A mammogram can reveal changes long before they can be felt,” she notes, giving women the chance to treat cancer before it becomes life-threatening.

Dr. Aljubour also stresses that while breast cancer cannot be prevented entirely, lifestyle choices matter. “Eating a balanced diet, exercising, maintaining a moderate weight, breastfeeding and avoiding smoking and alcohol can all reduce your risk,” she explains.

Screening vs. Early Diagnosis

While awareness is growing, confusion remains around medical terminology. Dr. Shayma Khalaf Muheisen, Obstetrics and Gynaecology Consultant at American Mission Hospital, clarifies an important distinction.

“Early diagnosis of cancer focuses on detecting symptomatic patients as early as possible so they have the best chance for successful treatment,” she says. “Screening, on the other hand, identifies unrecognised disease in an apparently healthy population, often through mammograms or other simple tests.”

Both approaches are essential. Early diagnosis helps women who already have symptoms get treated quickly, while screening empowers healthy women to catch cancer before it can be felt or seen.

Dr. Muheisen encourages women to practise breast self-awareness, becoming familiar with the normal look and feel of their breasts and promptly reporting changes. “Regular screening mammograms are crucial for finding cancer before it causes symptoms, and this is the best method for early detection for most women of screening age,” she adds.
Like Dr. Aljubour, she highlights lifestyle choices that reduce risk: maintaining a healthy weight, exercising regularly, limiting alcohol, avoiding smoking and embracing a diet rich in fruits, vegetables and whole grains.

A Future of Hope

Breast cancer remains the most common cancer among Bahraini women, with 244 new cases recorded in 2020. Yet, the difference today is profound: women are speaking out, healthcare systems are stronger and survival rates are improving thanks to early detection and modern treatments.
The journey is far from over. Some women are still diagnosed late and gaps in screening follow-up remain. But Bahrain has laid the foundation for a healthier, more empowered future, where awareness translates into action and early detection becomes the norm.

This October, let the pink ribbon be more than a symbol. Let it be a reminder to schedule a mammogram, talk openly with loved ones and prioritise your health. Because as both Dr. Aljubour and Dr. Muheisen remind us, early action is the most powerful tool Bahraini women have in the fight against breast cancer.

“Eating a balanced diet, exercising, maintaining a moderate weight, breastfeeding and avoiding smoking and alcohol can all reduce your risk.”

Throughout October 2025, Porsche Centre Bahrain (Behbehani Brothers W.L.L.) joins forces with UFC Gym Bahrain in a high-impact awareness campaign to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

This collaboration merges the worlds of luxury automotive branding and elite fitness culture to spark conversations, engage communities and inspire action.

Core Elements of the Collaboration
Fitness & Boxing Sessions – Throughout October, UFC Gym Bahrain will host a series of fitness, boxing and Muay Thai sessions open to the public. These are curated experiences designed to be inclusive, from casual participants to more serious fitness enthusiasts. All proceeds from these sessions will be donated to breast cancer awareness initiatives in Bahrain.

United in Pink – October 9, Porsche and UFC Gym proudly participated in the United in Pink event, organised by Woman This Month with the support of the Capital Governorate. The initiative brought together government representatives, NGOs, community members and corporate partners to honour survivors, promote early detection and spread the message of hope.

Porsche Centre Bahrain showcased a striking pink-wrapped Porsche Macan BEV and Pink boxing gloves symbolising courage, awareness and the power of unity. The participation highlighted Porsche’s ongoing commitment to meaningful community engagement beyond the showroom, championing wellness and women’s health in Bahrain.

Knockout Cancer Event – The centerpiece of the campaign is the flagship event on October 15, starting at 5:30pm at UFC Harbour Row. It will bring together fitness community members, Porsche clients, media and supporters for a joint physical challenge. Participation includes a fitness workout, Muay Thai elements and community engagement – all under a unifying cause. During the main event, every participant can choose to book a fitness block and all proceeds will be going to the Bahrain Cancer Society.

Visual & Symbolic Branding
To amplify awareness, Porsche has unveiled a fully wrapped pink Porsche Macan BEV that will be placed prominently outside UFC Gym for the duration of the campaign. This eye-catching display underscores the campaign’s message: early detection, vigilance and community support. The pink vehicle not only serves as a brand touchpoint but as a symbolic reminder of the cause.

The post Porsche X UFC Gym Bahrain – A United Front for Breast Cancer Awareness first appeared on Woman This Month.

You’ve already done the hard work. You faced diagnosis, treatment and uncertainty. Then another decision appears: whether breast reconstruction is right for you. It is not a cosmetic extra. It is a personal choice about feeling like yourself again.

When I meet a woman after a mastectomy, we start with her story. How she wants to dress. What activities she enjoys. What matters most day-to-day. Reconstruction is not one set path. The best option is always the one that fits her life and her comfort.

In many cases, the timing and type of reconstruction depend on medical factors such as the kind of cancer, its stage and whether further treatments like chemotherapy or radiotherapy are needed. Sometimes reconstruction can be done at the same time as the mastectomy, while in other cases it is safer and more effective to wait. Some women receive implants, while others use their own tissue from the abdomen or back, which can look and feel more natural. The goal is always to create a result that supports both recovery and confidence.

I always explain what the journey looks like as reconstruction may not be a single moment. The process may unfold in stages, with small refinements that restore balance and confidence over time. Some women decide to include nipple reconstruction or 3D tattooing, while others prefer not to. What matters is that each woman feels empowered to make the decision that reflects her own sense of comfort and completeness.

The small details matter just as much as the big decisions. Choosing soft, front-closing bras, taking time to move gently, caring for your scars and giving yourself space to recover all help you return to daily life with ease. The process should work around your life, not the other way around.

As we mark Pink October, I hope every woman remembers that healing is not only survival. It is returning to life with confidence, softness and the strength you have earned.

Did you always envision your wedding in a certain way, or has that vision changed over time?

“I think my vision has evolved over the years. Traveling constantly with my job has shown me so many cultures, traditions, and love stories that it’s hard not to be inspired. At first, I imagined something grand and traditional, but now I lean toward something more intimate, meaningful, and true to who we are as a couple. For me, it’s less about the scale and more about the feeling of celebrating our love in a way that reflects us.“

In your view, is a wedding about celebrating love while marriage is about sustaining it through challenges?

“Absolutely. A wedding, to me, is that beautiful, joyful moment where everyone you love gathers to celebrate your union. But marriage that’s where the real depth begins. Just as flights can be smooth one moment and turbulent the next, marriage is about holding on and navigating life’s challenges together. The wedding is a toast to love, but marriage is the journey of sustaining it through all seasons.”

In the days leading up to your wedding, would you choose time for yourself on a solo trip, or would you rather celebrate with friends on a group trip?

“Without a doubt, a solo trip. Traveling has always been a huge part of who I am — it gives me space to reflect, recharge, and reconnect with myself. Before I begin this new chapter, I’d love one last journey alone, just me and my thoughts, soaking in the quiet. It would be my way of grounding myself before stepping into the beautiful celebration of love and partnership. My friends will be there holding my hand on the wedding day, filling it with joy and laughter, so in the days before, a solo trip is what I would truly cherish.”

What message would you like to give to women out there, especially during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, as you prepare for this new chapter in your life?

“My message would be, love yourself fiercely and prioritize your health. As women, we juggle so many roles, but we must never forget to take care of ourselves. Breast Cancer Awareness is a reminder that early detection and self-care can save lives. As I prepare for marriage, I carry this thought with me — that a strong, healthy woman is not only a blessing to herself but also to her loved ones. Take time to check on your health and never underestimate your strength.”

From choosing outfits to planning the big day details, which part of wedding planning has been the most exciting for you?

“The most exciting part has been curating the personal touches weaving bits of my travels into the wedding. Whether it’s fabrics I’ve picked up abroad, destination-inspired details, or simply planning a menu that reflects places I’ve been, I love that my journey as a flight attendant can merge with my journey as a bride. It feels like I’m telling my story past, present, and future through the celebration.”

When you first pictured yourself as a bride, what kind of style or look instantly came to mind?

“When I first pictured myself as a bride, I always imagined a look that was modern, elegant, and timeless rather than a big, dramatic princess gown. I envisioned something sleek yet graceful, a style that feels true to my personality: understated, confident, and refined. For me, it’s less about extravagance and more about carrying myself with poise, letting simplicity highlight the joy and love of the day.”

What moments are you most looking forward to in your bridal look-seeing your partner’s reaction, the first dance, or something else?

“What I’m most looking forward to is seeing my partner’s reaction the moment he sees me. That look unfiltered, raw, and filled with love is something I know will stay with me forever. More than the dress, the music, or the details, it’s that instant connection, where all the planning fades away and it’s just the two of us, beginning our forever. For me, that’s the most magical moment I can imagine”

The post Bride To Be – By Jigmet Chorol – Flight Steward first appeared on Woman This Month.

Türkiye’s Ambassador to Bahrain, HE Dr. Ayşe Hilal Sayan Koytak, speaks about the enduring partnership between the two nations and the promising avenues for deeper cooperation in trade, diplomacy, and culture.

How would you describe the current state of economic and trade relations between Türkiye and Bahrain and which sectors hold the greatest potential for growth?

The economic partnership between Türkiye and Bahrain is built on trust, mutual respect and a shared vision for sustainable growth. While our current trade volume is still modest compared to its true potential, the trajectory is positive and both sides are determined to deepen cooperation. What makes this relationship promising is the clear complementarity between Bahrain’s strategic location and financial openness and Türkiye’s diversified industrial base and competitive production capacity.

Construction materials and engineered products, agro-food and FMCG, renewables and energy efficiency, healthcare and health tourism partnerships, ICT/FinTech and e-government and defence and advanced manufacturing sub-contracting are promising areas for growth.

What opportunities exist for Bahraini investors in Türkiye and conversely how is Türkiye encouraging Turkish businesses to engage with Bahrain’s economy?

Investment relations between Türkiye and Bahrain are not only about numbers but about building long-term confidence and shared prosperity. We see a natural complementarity between Bahrain’s capital and financial expertise and Türkiye’s diversified industrial base and large domestic market. This creates a fertile ground for two-way investment flows.

Bahrain is actively working towards economic diversification under its Vision 2030 plan. How can Turkish expertise and industries contribute to this national agenda?

Bahrain’s Vision 2030 represents a forward-looking strategy that places diversification, sustainability and innovation at its core. Türkiye, with its strong industrial capacity, renewable energy know-how and dynamic private sector, is well-positioned to contribute to these objectives. We believe that Turkish companies can be not only suppliers but also long-term partners in Bahrain’s transformation story.

Turkish expertise will contribute to this agenda through industrial supply-chain partnerships, renewables and energy efficiency, food security and agro-processing, tourism, culture and healthcare as well as advanced manufacturing and defence offsets.

In which areas do you see the most promising avenues for deepening bilateral cooperation between Türkiye and Bahrain beyond trade and investment?

For more than half a century, our partnership with Bahrain has expanded across diverse fields such as politics, tourism, health, defence, education and culture. These achievements demonstrate not only the strength of our bilateral ties but also the determination of both countries to develop cooperation on multiple fronts. The close relations between our leaders, H.E. President Erdoğan and H.M. King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, guide our way to elevate our partnership even further.

Steady progress has been achieved in healthcare. We appreciated Turkish-Bahraini cooperation on setting up an Oncology Centre in the domain of haematology, oncology and haematopoietic stem cell transplantation at King Hamad University. It is now operated by Turkish doctors whose work has been warmly appreciated by both Bahraini authorities and the people.

Among the many areas of collaboration, people-to-people interaction and tourism hold a special place. Türkiye continues to be the most preferred travel destination for Bahraini citizens. With the visa exemption granted to Bahrainis in December 2023, our people-to-people contacts have increased, strengthening mutual appreciation.

Turkish citizens in Bahrain are a real source of pride for us. They are known for their hard-working nature and harmonious way of living within Bahraini society. Many travel around the GCC but choose to settle in Bahrain because of the peace they find here. Bahrain has always welcomed people from all backgrounds, creating a vibrant and strong society built on cultural diversity.

Türkiye plays a significant role in regional geopolitics. How does Ankara view Bahrain’s role in fostering stability and dialogue in the Gulf and the wider Middle East?

Bahrain is the land of peace and stability and it gives importance to diplomacy and dialogue in the management of regional challenges. With our cooperation, I am sure we will together uphold peace and prosperity in our region.

Our region is the cradle of civilisations and despite the challenges we face, unity is the key to defeating any threats to our stability and well-being. Türkiye continues its efforts to promote peace and stability in our region and beyond.

For example, from day one, Türkiye has supported Syria’s efforts for peace, recovery and reconstruction. Thousands of Syrian babies were born in Türkiye and started their education there, building enduring social and cultural ties.

Another example is our diplomatic efforts between Ukraine and Russia. Since the very outset of the conflict, Türkiye has played a leading role in securing a just and sustainable peace. Since May, Türkiye has hosted three rounds of direct negotiations in Istanbul. Türkiye also helped bring the Black Sea Grain Initiative to life – a vital step for escalation management and food security during the crisis.

Looking ahead, Bahrain’s non-permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council for the 2026-2027 term, a candidacy supported by Türkiye, will provide a vital platform to address issues important to the Islamic world and the broader Middle East. We have no doubt that Bahrain will approach this responsibility with commitment and balance.

As Türkiye, we stand by our brotherly Gulf countries at all times and will continue to work together for regional stability.

What initiatives are underway to strengthen cultural exchange and mutual understanding between the peoples of Türkiye and Bahrain?

Culture remains one of the most subtle yet powerful instruments of diplomacy. In Bahrain, particularly among the younger generation, there is a genuine curiosity about and appreciation for Turkish culture and language. Turkish cuisine, art, natural landscapes and especially our TV series enjoy remarkable popularity.

Bahraini brothers and sisters travel to Türkiye frequently, mostly to İstanbul, Trabzon and the coastal cities such as Antalya. Yet no matter how many times one visits Türkiye, there is always something new to discover. I encourage tourists not to miss UNESCO World Heritage sites such as Sardis and the Lydian Tumuli of Bin Tepe, inscribed in 2025.

Are there any educational partnerships, scholarships or exchange programmes that could help bring young Turks and Bahrainis closer together?

Since 2017, under an agreement between the Yunus Emre Cultural Centre and the University of Bahrain, Turkish language courses have been offered at the University. Over the years, hundreds of students have taken part.

Türkiye is home to many top-ranked universities where the language of instruction is English and we would like to see more Bahraini youth in our universities. The Türkiye Scholarships programme is one of the world’s most comprehensive, offering stipends, health insurance, accommodation and vocational and academic opportunities. So far, 39 Bahraini students have benefited from it. We would be delighted to host more Bahraini youth in Türkiye – their second home – to pursue higher education and further strengthen our ties.

How do these shared values shape the bilateral relationship and soft power diplomacy between our countries?

Both Türkiye and Bahrain are lands of coexistence where diverse faiths and traditions thrive side by side. This shared heritage of tolerance is a source of pride. At a time when the world struggles with polarisation, we are showing that diversity is not a weakness but our greatest strength.

The post Bridging Bonds of Friendship first appeared on Woman This Month.

Dr. Maryam Al Dhain, a Member of Parliament representing Bahrain’s Southern Governorate, speaks about her career in politics, the progress of women’s empowerment and her aspirations for a more inclusive future.

What first motivated you to pursue a career in politics?

I was driven by a deep desire to serve my country and make a tangible difference in people’s lives. Growing up in Bahrain, I was continuously inspired by the progress our nation has made and wanted to contribute actively to its development. My academic background, particularly my studies in the UK, played a pivotal role in shaping my understanding of governance, policy-making and international relations. I saw politics as a powerful tool to advocate for societal change, especially in empowering women and improving social justice.

As a Member of Parliament, you’re one of the most vocal advocates for women’s rights in Bahrain. Has this always been a cause close to your heart?

Absolutely. Advocating for women’s rights has always been a core value for me. During my studies in the UK, I was exposed to diverse perspectives on gender equality and human rights. This experience strengthened my conviction that empowering women is essential for national development. My involvement with the Bahrain Embassy further reinforced the importance of championing gender equality within our society, so I could contribute to creating a more inclusive environment for women.

What do you see as the most significant progress Bahrain has made in advancing opportunities for women in recent years?

Bahrain has made remarkable strides in increasing women’s participation in various sectors. Recent laws have enhanced women’s rights in areas such as inheritance, entrepreneurship and protection against violence. The appointment of women to key government positions and the increased representation of women in parliament are also notable milestones. These developments reflect Bahrain’s commitment to fostering gender equality and creating an environment where women can thrive professionally and personally.

Many young women look up to you as a role model. What advice would you give them if they aspire to leadership roles in politics or public life?

My advice would be to stay committed to your goals, build your knowledge and skills continuously and believe in your potential. Never underestimate the power of perseverance and resilience. Seek mentorship and surround yourself with supportive networks. Remember, leadership is about service, integrity and making a positive impact. Your voice matters, and your contributions are vital to shaping a better future for Bahrain.

Beyond gender equality, you have supported many other causes. Which issues are you most passionate about addressing in parliament today?

Apart from gender equality, I am deeply passionate about issues such as education reform, social justice, youth empowerment and sustainable development. I believe that investing in education and innovation will prepare our youth for future challenges. Addressing issues related to healthcare, economic diversification and environmental conservation are also central to my agenda, as they are key to building a resilient and progressive Bahrain.

In your view, what are the biggest challenges still facing Bahraini women, both in the workplace and in society?

Despite progress, challenges remain, including societal stereotypes, limited access to certain leadership opportunities and work-life balance issues. Additionally, some women face cultural or familial barriers that hinder their full participation in public life and the workforce. Ensuring equal opportunities and fostering an environment that encourages women’s professional growth remains an ongoing priority.

How important is collaboration between parliament, civil society and the private sector in pushing forward women’s empowerment initiatives?

Collaboration among these sectors is absolutely essential. Legislative change alone cannot fully advance women’s rights; it must be complemented by efforts from civil society and the private sector to raise awareness, change perceptions and create practical opportunities. When these entities work together, they can develop comprehensive programmes that address barriers, promote leadership and ensure that women’s empowerment is embedded across all levels of society.

What role do you believe education plays in shaping a more inclusive future for the next generation of Bahraini women and men?

Education is the foundation of an inclusive and progressive society. It equips individuals with the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to participate fully in society and the economy. An inclusive education system promotes understanding, tolerance and respect for diversity. By emphasising gender equality and human rights from an early age, we can cultivate a new generation of leaders who value inclusion and contribute toward a more equitable Bahrain.

I aspire to leave a legacy where Bahraini women feel empowered, valued and confident in their abilities to lead and contribute. My hope is that my work encourages more women to pursue leadership roles, influences policy reforms that foster equality and inspires the next generation to dream big. Ultimately, I wish to be remembered as someone who made a meaningful difference in creating a fairer, more inclusive Bahrain where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Anything more to add?

I am honoured to have been recognised by the Principal of Sandhurst for my graduation dissertation. I am proud to be the first Bahraini female to be awarded for a thesis on The Role of Arab Women in Making Peace in the Middle East Region, emphasising the critical role women play in peacebuilding efforts across our region. This recognition highlights my dedication to promoting peace, stability and social cohesion. It also underscores the importance of empowering women as active agents of positive change, fostering welfare and harmony throughout the Arab world. This achievement reflects my commitment to advancing regional dialogue and understanding, as well as strengthening Bahrain’s role in promoting peaceful resolutions.

The post Empowering a Nation’s Women first appeared on Woman This Month.

Former Indian parliamentarian and philanthropist, Priya Dutt Roncon, speaks with Woman This Month about breast cancer awareness, public health advocacy and the enduring influence of her parents’ humanitarian legacy.

Ms. Roncon has long been a driving force behind social change, particularly in health and education. During her visit to Bahrain for the United in Pink campaign, she reflected on the importance of awareness and early detection in the fight against breast cancer.

“Early detection is key,” she explains. “It makes breast cancer one of the most treatable forms of cancer. Unfortunately, in India, the word cancer is often associated with fear across all sections of society. Many women avoid annual check-ups, worried that something might be discovered.”

Her mission is to dispel these fears through education and accessible healthcare. “With early detection, treatment becomes less intensive, more affordable and offers the greatest hope, allowing patients to live cancer-free.”

She believes that initiatives like United in Pink show how powerful community involvement can be. “The role of the community is vital in ensuring the success of such initiatives,” she asserts. “Early detection camps are crucial and at times we need to take doctors directly to the people. Equally important is women talking to women, sharing experiences, addressing fears and encouraging one another.”

She believes survivors play a unique role in spreading hope. “Cancer warriors, who have bravely fought and overcome the disease, can become strong leaders in spreading awareness and inspiring others.”

Health Policy and Collaboration

Drawing on her experience as a Member of Parliament, Ms. Roncon acknowledges that government intervention is vital in expanding healthcare access. “We are a very large and diverse country,” she says.

“The government has taken many initiatives in healthcare, covering our villages, towns, cities and urban slums. Schemes like Ayushman Bharat, which provides free treatment of up to ₹5 lakhs through a wide network of listed hospitals, have been a great support for low-income groups.”

Yet she notes that much of India’s cancer detection remains driven by NGOs. “In rural areas, ASHA workers and primary health centres play an important role, yet cancer detection largely continues to be driven by NGOs. Institutions like Tata Memorial Hospital, a pioneer in cancer care, have expanded their reach by setting up satellite hospitals across several states. Clearly, progress is being made with strong government support but the scale of the challenge is immense given our large population and the rising number of cancer cases.”

Building Bridges Across Borders

Her visit to Bahrain forms part of a broader push for cross-cultural cooperation in public health. “Cross-cultural dialogue and exchange play a crucial role in advancing cancer care,” she says. “I was recently invited to a conference in London, where doctors and NGOs from various countries came together to share their experiences in cancer treatment and care. We gained valuable insights from one another and brought those learnings back to apply in our own country. I am confident that similar knowledge-sharing can be fostered here as well.”

Continuing a Family Legacy

Few names in India evoke compassion and service like Nargis and Sunil Dutt. Their dedication to social welfare inspired the Nargis Dutt Foundation, which continues to champion healthcare accessibility more than four decades later.

“The Nargis Dutt Foundation was established by my father in 1981, following the passing of my mother due to cancer,” she says. “At that time, very little was known about cancer in India and we had to seek treatment for her in the United States, as adequate care was not available locally. My mother was deeply concerned that many families back home could not afford treatment for their loved ones. It was this sentiment that inspired the vision of the Foundation.”

The organisation began as a small initiative among Indian expatriates in the US and has since grown into a nationwide network. “We began by setting up the first chapter in the US with the support of the Indian community to equip rural hospitals with medical diagnostic equipment. Over the years the Foundation started raising funds in India and till date we have been able to equip over 100 rural hospitals with cancer diagnostic and treatment equipment. Our mission was clear, no one should have to lose their life to cancer due to lack of funds.”

Today, the Foundation funds treatment for underprivileged patients, particularly those with breast, cervical and head and neck cancers. “Our work continues in close collaboration with hospitals like Tata Memorial and other leading institutions across India, ensuring access to care for those who need it most.”

Harnessing the Power of Digital Media

In an age defined by social media, Ms. Roncon recognises its dual nature as both a powerful educational tool and a potential source of misinformation. “We live in the age of social media and whether we like it or not, it cannot be ignored,” she says. “It is a powerful platform to reach millions with your message. However, it is also a space where misinformation spreads easily. This makes it all the more important to ensure that accurate, meaningful messaging reaches the audience. Used thoughtfully, social media can be a powerful tool to educate, raise awareness and inspire positive action.”

Practical Steps for Women’s Health

When asked what advice she would offer women regarding early detection, her message is simple yet powerful. “Listen to your body. This is the simplest way to stay aware, yet often we tend to ignore the signals. Self-breast examination is an easy and effective method for early detection. Women over 40 should include a mammogram in their annual health check-up, along with a Pap smear. Those with a family history of breast cancer should begin screenings at an earlier age.”

A Lifelong Commitment to Service

Reflecting on her varied roles as politician, social worker and philanthropist, Ms. Roncon says each has contributed to her broader purpose. “Every role I have held has been meaningful and I have learned something valuable from each of them. Politics gave me a powerful platform to serve the people, providing access and influence to make a real difference and connect with those in need. After my political journey, I naturally transitioned into social work. Today, every smile I witness and every glimmer of hope in someone’s eyes reminds me that this work is truly worth it.

“Life is beautiful and so are you. When you are healthy, everyone around you thrives, because you are often the glue that holds your family together. Never ignore your health, prioritise yourself. Take care of your body and mind first and everything else will naturally fall into place.”

The post A Legacy of Compassion first appeared on Woman This Month.

Blending Bahraini culture with contemporary brand storytelling, Noor Alhayki continue sharing Gulf Hotels Group’s story – honoring its legacy while embracing its shared vision for the future.

With a background rooted in journalism, diplomacy and strategic communications, Ms. Alhayki’s journey into hospitality was anything but conventional, and it is precisely this multidimensional experience that defines her approach today as Head of Corporate Communications and Marketing at Gulf Hotels Group.

“My career has always been driven by a passion for crafting experiences that connect and create lasting impact,” she says. “I began in Public Relations and Journalism, building a strong foundation in storytelling through media engagement and high-profile campaigns across both the public and private sectors.”

Her early work led her into diplomacy, where she proudly served as a Bahraini diplomat with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and at the American Embassy as a Commercial Specialist, strengthening Bahraini and U.S. business relations. These roles, she says, “broadened my global perspective and deepened my expertise in cross-cultural communication, government relations and strategic economic promotion.”

The transition into strategic marketing came naturally. Ms. Alhayki says: “I led campaigns, projects for government, semi-government and private entities, always balancing commercial goals with cultural relevance.” Even during the pandemic, she continued to evolve, launching her own consultancy and collaborating with local talents and brands.
That path ultimately converged with the world of hospitality. “At Gulf Hotels Group, I found the opportunity to contribute to the company’s journey and brand evolution, contributing to shaping the future of one of Bahrain’s most iconic names in hospitality,” she explains. “I’ve embraced the challenge of driving innovation while honouring a legacy over five decades strong.”

The Shift to Digital and Data

Over the past few years, the Group’s marketing strategy has pivoted towards more dynamic, digitally driven approaches. “We’ve undergone a significant shift in the way we connect with our audiences,” she reveals. “While we continue to value traditional brand equity, our focus has moved towards data-driven marketing, personalisation and digital storytelling.

“We’ve strengthened our presence across digital media platforms. The goal has been to create immersive experiences for our guests and at a corporate level to the investors —from first discovery online to their journey on property and restaurants —while maintaining authenticity and local relevance. It is a challenge and a work in progress but all in all a team effort.”

A New Brand Era

Among her many achievements, Ms. Alhayki singles out the ongoing rebranding of Gulf Hotel Bahrain as a personal highlight. The Group is also rolling out a rebrand and digital transformation of its loyalty programme, Prestige Club, aiming to make it more seamless, engaging and accessible for guests.

The Group’s culinary ventures have also expanded beyond traditional hotel spaces. “We’re elevating the marketing of our F&B outlets beyond the hotel walls, including China Garden Al Liwan and our concepts at Time Out Market, such as Dona, Kaju and Zen, as well as Takht Jamsheed which will soon open in Marasi Galleria Mall and in Saudi Arabic at Ajdan Bayfront in Alkhobar” she says. These efforts aim to reach broader audiences and reinforce Gulf Hotels Group’s culinary presence across platforms.

A parallel source of pride for Ms. Alhayki is the company’s Summer Internship Programme campaign. “It’s an initiative designed to empower Bahraini youth in hospitality, which reflects our CSR values and long-term commitment to developing national talent.” she says – a program that was recently recognized with the Best Summer Internship Program Award at the 17th Annual HRM Summit. She also highlighted the launch of Gulf Catering soon, the Group’s new arm serving hospitals, schools, and institutions, and her ongoing work with Fusions, where she is developing a new menu campaign featuring Bahraini culinary talent.

Bahraini Identity at the Core

Bahraini culture remains embedded in the brand’s identity. “As a proudly Bahraini hospitality group, integrating our culture is at the heart of what we do,” she says. “From design aesthetics and culinary offerings to our service philosophy, we celebrate the spirit of Bahraini hospitality.”

This commitment shines through in the Group’s flagship property, Gulf Hotel Bahrain. “Guests can experience authentic local flavours, art and traditions, often subtly woven into our guest touchpoints, branding and campaigns,” she adds. This commitment to authentic experiences is also reflected in the Group’s ongoing integration with Marriott Bonvoy and the planned transition of Gulf Hotel Bahrain into the Autograph Collection by 2027, marking a new era that connects local legacy with global recognition.

Balancing the Past and the Future

Striking a balance between heritage and innovation is a careful act, but one that Ms. Alhayki handles with expertise. “Gulf Hotel Bahrain is our flagship; an icon that embodies the Group’s heritage and standards,” she says. “As our portfolio expands, our strategy has been to create distinct brand voices for each property while maintaining a cohesive group narrative.

“Legacy properties are celebrated for their history and depth, while newer developments are positioned around innovation, design or niche experiences. It’s a balance of honouring the past while embracing the future, all under one brand ecosystem.”

Embracing Industry Challenges

The hospitality industry is constantly evolving, and Ms. Alhayki acknowledges the challenges. “Hospitality is one of the most emotionally driven yet competitive industries,” she believes. “Standing out requires constant creativity, agility and relevance.

“Audience fragmentation and the proliferation of marketing channels require careful navigation. Cutting through the noise takes consistent effort! Additionally, maintaining brand consistency across diverse properties while allowing for localised expression can be complex. But I see these challenges as opportunities to elevate our storytelling and refine our positioning.”

Looking Ahead

As Gulf Hotels Group charts its future, she is focused on strengthening the brand as a regional benchmark for authentic, elevated hospitality through the pursuit of digital transformation, loyalty and personalised guest engagement.

Her goals for the coming year include amplifying the Group’s voice across all communication platforms. “We aim to boost our thought leadership, CSR impact and brand storytelling,” she concludes. “Most importantly, we want to build meaningful connections; with our guests, our community and the next generation of talent who will carry our legacy forward.”

Breast Cancer Awareness Month serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of early detection in saving lives. At Royal Bahrain Hospital (RBH), the One-Stop Breast Care Clinic has been established to offer comprehensive, coordinated and compassionate care for every woman’s breast health journey.

The clinic simplifies the process of screening, diagnosis and treatment by offering all essential services in one place. Every patient attending a screening receives a full consultation with a general surgeon to ensure clarity and guidance for any required next steps. Advanced breast imaging techniques, including mammography, 3D tomosynthesis and ultrasound, are carried out by experienced radiologists, with results available promptly for peace of mind.

RBH’s integrated approach ensures that patients benefit from same-day imaging, accurate reporting and timely consultations. Should further investigations or treatments be necessary, patients are seamlessly referred within the hospital to specialists in pathology, oncology, plastic surgery and nutrition, creating a continuous and supportive care pathway.

What sets RBH apart is its dedicated multidisciplinary team. The hospital’s radiologists, pathologists, surgeons, oncologists, plastic surgeons and dieticians work together to provide holistic care. This collaboration extends beyond diagnosis and treatment to include recovery and post-treatment support, such as breast reconstruction and nutritional counselling. The clinic’s focus is not only on physical healing but also on helping women regain confidence and emotional wellbeing.

Empowering Women Through Awareness

During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, RBH continues its mission to empower women to prioritise their health. The hospital encourages regular screenings and self-awareness, reinforcing the message that early detection can make all the difference. With its comprehensive facilities and patient-centred approach, the One-Stop Breast Care Clinic ensures that every woman receives the care, attention and reassurance she deserves.
