By Alene Geed

akonye kena is translated as ‘I will help myself’

The focal bead for these earrings is made from recycled magazines by Northern Uganda tribeswomen. This bead product line started as an exercise within a rehabilitation program to promote self sufficiency.

Rolling beads was intended to train young women from the streets in discipline and attention to detail. It expanded into the primary source of income for the project. The proceeds provide a living, fair wage for them. Akonye Kena promotes independence & self-sufficiency initiatives in East Africa.

What an opportunity for us to promote commerce to those less privileged. Each time you wear your earrings, you can tell the story to those who admire them, thus spreading the message even more.

Meet the Interviewees

Wanda March (phone talk communications) jumped off the marriage train and had to get on another train to support herself – she learned about who she was and what she was capable of. Today, Wanda runs a telemarketing program, providing a service that takes the “cold” out of cold calling.

Galia Shukr (Prestige Coaching) was determined from the onset to create a profession and chose to help others developing their businesses. As she worked with individual entrepreneurs and large corporations, to build their protocol and procedures to enhance their business development, she discovered what she was capable of and how far she could push herself.

Marilyn Anderson (Marilyn Anderson.tel) explored how she and her sister developed entirely different perspectives of a women’s role and business because of the differences in their age and the process their mother was going through. With a diverse background of careers and experiences, she enables others to find their “story” and utilize it effectively in their business development.

Florina Bulldock (Xocai Chocolate) explored how she immigrated to Canada with a son, abandoned by her husband, and having to create a life and career in a foreign land with out the language, the culture, or any support. With a wide range of strengths to draw on, she is now emerging from the confines of employment to the empowerment of entrepreneurship.

Dr. Holly (Choices Unlimited for Health & Wellness) explores the psychological attributes that women have evolved over centuries and how they can use these characteristics to develop themselves and their businesses. She also explored the various different methods, social medias, social networks, etc that women can utilize in today’s world to build and develop businesses, careers, professions and themselves, more effectively than ever before. Dr Holly embraces what she has learned as a psychologist, a metaphysicist, and a Dr of Natural Medicine – that there are so many different ways of understanding life; embracing life; and making it work for you. Recognizing your strengths and your weaknesses and making sure both work for you.

Boost Your Annual Revenue in 12 Months or Less by Cross Marketing

You are probably sitting back wondering where your next client will come from today and how can you keep moving forward in this economy. If you are one of the many women owned businesses that generates less than or even a little over $10,000 annually, it’s time for a change.

There are enough female entrepreneurs in the US and beyond who can join forces to increase the amount of revenue generated by the women’s business market and stimulate the growth of local economies around the globe. According to a survey done by PricewaterhouseCoopers, 56% of the nation’s fastest growing companies have worked collaboratively with others.

The idea of spending money on advertising is probably daunting. Advertising by yourself on a tiny budget can be stressful and scary. In a down economy, sales typically go down for items and services businesses consider as expendable. Marketing and advertising seem to be the first two things on the chopping block. Studies show that companies who continue to market and advertise in a down economy are stronger financially when the economy corrects itself.

How can you stay in the black if you cut back or eliminate marketing and advertising? The answer is you can’t! Getting a client here or there is not going to support your business or pay you a decent income. Virtual businesses need advertising to survive. It’s time to start thinking like brick and mortar companies. You have to drive foot traffic into your business, entice at least half of them make a purchase and give them a reason to visit frequently.

There is Strength in Numbers

Combining your tiny budget with lots of other businesses in the same boat can increase your exposure and give you more bang for your buck. Each person you bring into the fold represents additional advertising dollars and prospective clients. You can go from $10,000 annually to $100,000 in annual revenue in 12 months or less. It’s plain old-fashioned business sense called cross marketing that will help you thrive when you have a tiny budget.

At its essence, cross marketing is nothing more than joining forces with compatible companies so that everyone involved can more effectively capitalize on each others’ existing client base. It’s the synergistic affect from the pooling of resources to work together towards a common goal that makes cross marketing so effective.

WomenPartner.org’s web site is filled with info about women who are ready to cross market with you. We’ve compiled a mini directory below to jump start your search of our site. If you are serious about incorporating PR & cross marketing into your 2012 marketing plan, take advantage our membership special today before it expires.

Stop Worrying About Where Your Next Client is Going to Come From

You are probably sitting back wondering where your next client will come from today and how can you keep moving forward in this economy.

Spend the day browsing the content submitted by our PR blitz participants and get a head start on your business partner pitch emails before you go out to spend the night celebrating Valentine’s Day. Then stop by again on Feb. 15. Your things to do list in preparation for WomenPartner.org’s Valentine’s Day PR Blitz is posted below. Please tell a friend about our virtual PR event.
