Perhaps the dam has finally burst!! I just received this communication from Greta Van Susteren's Gretawire blog. It's a boycott request of the Radio and Television Correspondents Association Annual Dinner for having hired a headliner, Louis C.K. whose sexist utterances have been worse than Rush, Maher and all the others combined. See this woman-----Kirsten Powers? She is my new hero!!! She, a moderate Democrat, has taken on the nasty liberal sexism and she is gaining the upper hand in the argument. Of course, as you all know, this goes back to the "war on women" meme that the left is using to corral women into voting for their ticket in the fall. I've written a fair amount about that subject. Of course

When Will Women Rise Up?

Cynthia Ruccia

I am so heartened with the continuing proliferation of major articles talking about what WE have been saying since 2008 when Hillary Clinton ran for president: that we need to wake up to that fact that women run virtually NOTHING in the "enlightened" United States of America. I awoke this morning to this Leslie Bennetts article in The Daily Beast and Newsweek that

A War on Women???????

Cynthia Ruccia

How many times can you say the same thing? How many times can you do the same thing and get different results? Well, it appears that the same thing MUST be said over and over again in order for it to sink in in order for us to stop doing the same things over and over and over again and expect to get a different result.

It appears that women were the key ingredient to the Romney win in Michigan last night. I'm not here to endorse a candidate or take a victory lap, although I do hope that if Mitt Romney becomes the Republican nominee for president that he will put a woman on the ticket with him. He's the only candidate so far from either party who has even paid lip service to that idea.

One of the tags lines on this blog is "what women's rights are when women are no longer manipulated by party rhetoric," and we have just witnessed a week or two where the subject of women's rights are being used shamelessly to manipulate women all over the United States. Both parties are doing it, and to some extent it is probably proving effective. As the year started off, we got this report from Gallup that the number of people who consider themselves as Independents is at an all time high of 40%. To me, it shows that people are finally awakening from a long slumber to understand that the ties that have held them to a party have broken. If 40% of the U.S. voters can't identify with one party or another or are pissed off

How To Get a Woman On The Ballot

The way to get a woman president is just so simple, so obvious, so yawningly apparent, that the idea of writing about it makes me feel bored. HOWEVER, as counterintuitive as this idea of electing a woman president is, there is an intermediate step we must take in order for this piece of history to happen. What is that step? I have turned 59 recently, and I have been voting since I was 18. I STILL won't have the opportunity to vote for a woman for president this year!! And I'm grumbling about it. It's 2012, and the only conclusion that can be drawn is that in this country neither Democrats nor Republicans are ready yet to seriously consider electing a woman for president. Hope everyone's had a GREAT holiday so far!!!! All of this time off has gotten me thinking about things, and I've decided to close out 2011 with one more post. So here's my question to you------what have the parties done for women lately?

I just want to wish everyone a happy holiday!!! I'm taking a break for the holidays, but I'm looking forward to continuing our conversation about how to get women parity at the top in the new year!! It's been a weird year for women, this 2011. We've seen too much sexism in all of the wrong ways and places, but we've also seen women doing amazing things from a 62 year old Diana

Feminists Have Become Anything But Progressive

Cynthia Ruccia

What will it take for people to stop looking back when it comes to women's progress? As a country we are stuck in a time warp of old assumptions that have completely gridlocked women's upward mobility. It's so bizarre!! People continue to assume that women are so far ahead and that we live just a step away from a feminist paradise because we have made so much progress.

Well, the picture says it all about how I'm feeling about the 2012 elections---------it's just one big yawn. The presidential election season feels like a chess game where I already know all of the moves. 2008 destroyed my enthusiasm for any other election it seems. Not to belabor the point, but my hopes in 2008 were raised in such a way that any presidential election from now

A Little Flag Waving

Cynthia Ruccia

I'm going to depart from my usual topic of women's parity to do some flag waving. I've been pretty disheartened by the talk of imminent calamity facing our country and I'd like to offer up an alternate narrative.

Yes we are in a recession. Yes it is the worse recession many of us have faced. But let's face it------most of us have lived in unprecedented good times, and many of

Women Who Should Be President

Cynthia Ruccia

Today I'm writing about some newsworthy events in the lives of two women who should be Presidents of the United States. And in a different era, they would be recognized for the content of their character and not have the subliminal (and not so subliminal) sexism thrown in to roadblock them. Our country would be greatly served by having these women at the helm of leadership. I've heard it repeated too many times that women are getting ahead these days and that as a result it can be assumed that it is just a matter of time before our vision of women's economic parity becomes a reality. Not to belabor the point, but I am still stuck on the current blindness of feminism. I know, I know. You might think that at this point I would just GET OVER IT, "it" being my sense of betrayal of the women's movement to its own message. Many are tired of the harping on this hypocrisy. On this blog, I am always encouraging everyone to speak up whenever something sexist is said. The idea is that if we call out sexism aggressively wherever and whenever we find it, we can help restore the sense of shame people should feel for promoting sexism in the first place. It would be an interesting piece to write to put forth the reasons why we don't spend more time

Two Steps Forward-----Two Steps Back

Cynthia Ruccia

For me, this past week has been fascinating in its extremes. On the one hand, we saw a huge leap forward for women, something to celebrate and feel enormous pride. On the other hand, we saw some of the same shameful sexist hijinks that truly are getting old and need to stop. Really!!! Let me explain.....

On the bursting with elation front, we saw a first in the history of the

<category scheme="http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#" term="Susan B. Today's post has been floating around in my mind for awhile------I just didn't know it!! What prompted my awareness was this article on Politico.com entitled "No Criticism From Women's Groups" by Ben Smith which reported on the remarks by Anita Dunn in the new book by Ron Suskind. In it, Dunn and other women who have left the Obama administration talk about a hostile work

Female Equality Matters

guest post by Kathlene Mullens

The Glass Ceiling isn't a woman's problem. It's an everyone problem. Women are filling over half of jobs these days, more and more households are headed by women, still more are co-led by women, and all children are born to women (with many having fathers involved as well). This makes the not-improving reality of the gender-based wage gap a problem for every child

"She Will Have a Hard Time Winning... While I was on my elliptical this morning with Morning Joe on the tube, I heard these words slip out of someone's mouth during a discussion about Elizabeth Warren's chances of beating Scott Brown in the Massachusetts Senate race in 2012. WTF???? Will it never end?

As I got to thinking about it, I realized that at least it was better than saying "she's too shrill," or "she's too
