Two new members have joined AWAD. We extend a warm welcome to Linda Blackstone and Vera Schuhmacher:

Vera Schuhmacher has been representing established and emerging artists from abroad exclusively in the UK since 1996. Vera started representing Gernot Kissel and now also represents artists from France, Russia and Switzerland. This year – during a visit to Australia – Vera succeeded in getting on board the famous Australian artist, Ken Done.

Linda Blackstone just celebrated the 25th anniversary of The Linda Blackstone Gallery in September. The opening of the gallery was a lifelong dream for Linda, who had a passion for art and wanted to open a gallery with a difference. Somewhere that wasn’t elitist. Somewhere where people could come and enjoy the laid back ambience of a gallery run for the love of it, with no pressure to buy. A gallery that celebrated new and upcoming artists. Back in 1985 Linda’s motto was that you should “invest in art for lasting pleasure“. A motto that still stands true to this day, 25 years after opening.

Flash Projects specialises in iconic vintage photographs and contemporary editions of popular culture from the 1950s to the 1970s, with a focus on the most celebrated cinema, music and fashion of the period.

Flash Projects presents vintage photographs from the great period of European popular culture. As well as presenting some of the most influential figures of this time, Flash Projects also seeks to draw attention to the greatest photographers of the era from Geppetti, Pierluigi and Secchiaroli in Rome to Raymond Cauchetier in Paris and David Bailey and his contemporaries in London.

Flash Projects focuses on the original paparazzi photographers in Fellini’s Rome of the 1950s and 1960s, the French New Wave Cinema of Godard and Truffaut in the 1960s and the Music, Fashion and Cinema of Swinging London, with The Beatles and Rolling Stones at its centre.

In addition to sourcing rare one-off original vintage photographs, Flash Projects will also publish limited edition prints.

Previous exhibitions staged at James Hyman Gallery, London have included La Nouvelle Vague. Iconic New Wave Photography by Raymond Cauchetier (2010), Brigitte Bardot and The Original Paparazzi (2009) and Linda McCartney. Photographs (2008). Generating huge levels of international media coverage and visitor numbers in the thousands, the exhibition programme reflects all that is cult in fashion, film and music of the last sixty years.

A commercial gallery, Flash Projects offers something for the film, fashion or music aficionado to the photography collector, presenting rare original vintage material in addition to accessibly priced limited edition contemporary prints.

Flash Projects operates from select pop-up spaces throughout central London and through on-line exhibitions.

Flash Projects will officially launch this November at our Pop-Up space at 8 Kingly Street, off Carnaby Street in London’s West End. Our opening exhibition is iconic original vintage photographs by Jean Clemmer, exploring fantasy, sensuality and haute couture in 1960s Paris, from 26th November – 18th December 2010.

Flash Projects also be participating in Grazia magazine’s Carnaby shopping evening as a pre-launch taster. On Thursday 18th November, 5-9pm, over one hundred shops, restaurants and bars in the twelve streets of Carnaby will be offering an amazing 20% discount.
