LONDON.- The token or spintria, depicts a man and a woman having sex on one face, and has the Roman numerals XIIII (14) on the other. The lady appears to be lying on a couch on her front and a male figure is positioned behind her. The item was hit upon by a mudlarker on the Thames foreshore near Putney Bridge, whilst searching with a metal detector. It was then declared to the Museum of London under the Portable Antiquities Scheme (external website). The spintria is roughly the size of a 10 pence piece and may even be the only such token ever found in Britain. Caroline McDonald, Museum of London Curator, said: This is the perfect archaeological object. Its sexy and provocative in the best sense of the word. Ha'aretz: Gingrich won't win, and Bibi will be in a lose-lose situation

Newt Gingrich won in South Carolina and that's good, very good. What's so good about the victory of an egomaniac who has compared himself to Churchill, de Gaulle and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu? It's good because it's bad for the Republican Party, which is drunk not on wine but on tea. That's how the wild party will continue until the summer, and they'll all swallow each other alive.

They will reach the end of the race for Republican presidential candidate bruised and battered, increasing U.S. President Barack Obama's chances of being reelected by the skin of his teeth. In spite of all the disappointment with him, he behaves like a normal and well-meaning human being, and that's no small thing nowadays - both in the United States and here. Another term in office - without the fear of big donors and AIPAC - may repair what has been broken.

From here, we will wish Gingrich good luck on his future path, where every patch of greenery he touches turns yellow. This is the man who has a reputation for making a fool of himself. This is the man who was thrown out of Congress in disgrace - the House Ethics Committee handled dozens of complaints filed against him when he was chairman, and fined him hundreds of thousands of dollars for "irresponsible use" of public funds.

He was the one who pushed for the impeachment of President Bill Clinton because of Monica, while he himself was having a secret affair with his platinum-blonde assistant, Callista. He informed his first wife that he was divorcing her while she was still bedridden with an illness, and to his second he suggested an "open marriage," according to her testimony. Sara Netanyahu would not be pleased with such behavior.

I have absolutely nothing against a womanizer. So why do I feel like vomiting when he of all people preaches the sanctity of the family and family values? The nausea increases when he publicly displays the indulgence he receives from his new church; Gingrich is now a devout Catholic. And the observer will wonder, how is such a historic and important party running such dubious candidates, who are infuriated by welfare and bought by wealth?

With all his character traits and views, Gingrich is the natural candidate of the "International Likud," as we learned in a conversation with journalist Yaron Dekel. Don't we finally deserve to have a president after our own heart, who considers the Palestinians an invented people, brings down the Iranian government with one shot, transfers the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem, frees Jonathan Pollard and crushes the elites and the media?

Although Netanyahu is not interfering, we know whom he really likes - anyone but Obama. That's all he requires. The freebie daily newspaper Israel Hayom also wants Gingrich, because that's what the boss wants. The paper's patron, Sheldon Adelson, had good reason for contributing $10 million and rescuing his friend at the last moment. Our Sheldon knows how to gamble, that's his profession. Didn't he bet on Bibi Netanyahu and win? Didn't we lose?

I'm also tempted to gamble, but without chips. Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is not a great bargain, but he still has a chance despite his unctuousness and evasiveness - only this week did he deign to reveal his absurd tax payments, as well as his Swiss bank account. But he is still the preferred candidate of the Republican establishment, major donors and independent voters. He, rather than the hypocritical Gingrich, whom Obama will make mincemeat of.

And that's how the experts on the United States - Netanyahu and his gang of advisers - have entangled us in a situation of almost certain defeat or, as they say in the Prime Minister's Office in an American accent, a lose-lose situation.

We'll have to be careful of Obama, who is gritting his teeth to hold back his grudge, and we'll have to be careful of Romney, who won't soon forget the bloodbath prepared for him by Newt and Bibi's friends.

LONDON.- Many of the works of art in Bonhams sale of Israeli Art on Feb 29th was made by new arrivals from Europe. A work by Reuven Rubin (Israeli, 1893-1974), a Rumanian émigré who became Israels first ambassador to Rumania, leads the sale. Titled 'Les Oliviers' and dated 'Rubin Les Oliviers 1958' , it is an oil on canvas estimated to sell for £75,000-100,000.The picture is from the collection of Joseph and Mabel Ottenstein, Washington D.C. and thence by descent to its current owner. Colombian Women Zoom Ahead in Politics

Unlike U.S. women, Colombian women have made great strides in the political arena in a short period of time, says Barbara Frechette in the book "Sharing Power." In this excerpt, she compares this progression to the one in the United States.
When I arrived in Colombia in July of 1994, I was surprised to see women in jobs usually held by men in almost every labor field, and especially amazed to see so many women in important leadership positions in finance and economics.
Although more and more American women had entered those fields, none had risen as high as Maria Mercedes Cuellar, who was then co-director of Colombia's central bank.

Also, gender relations were far more peaceful and cordial than in the United States. Female leaders took pride in femininity, in being wives and mothers and in a leadership style they said aided their progress without alienating men. In fact, one successful man told me he admired the achievements of his countrywomen and had mentored several of them. La rédaction du livre "la Shoah des Palestiniens" a pris 15 ans à l'éminent chercheur Palestine, Nawaf el Zaru. Il s'agit d'un ouvrage qui a l'ampleur d'une encyclopédie et qui a été dernièrement publié dans la capitale jordanienne Amman; ainsi annonce le journal El Quds El Arabi, publié à Londres.

Dans son numéro consacré à la publication du livre, a écrit Rashad Abou Sahwar: «Comme la Shoah palestinienne ne se réfère pas qu'à des êtres humains mais également à des territoires, des arbres, un patrimoine et une culture, l'auteur a donné à son livre un sous-titre: 'la légende d'"Israël" et la politique de purification ethnique'.

My eyesight is becoming very weak due to macular degeneration in my only functioning eye, the left eye. I've been having injections for the last three years to save my sight, but lately I have come to realize that because of this condition I am deleting most of my emails, even those too precious to ignore.
My vision is not at all kosher for computer or Internet reading or working as I have for many years. Because of this, may I please ask that you kindly refrain from sending emails because I am unable to read them now

Selon The Economist, « dans les décennies passées, les femmes ont plus contribué à la croissance du PIB mondial que les nouvelles technologies ou les économies émergentes comme la Chine ou l'Inde » [1].

Depuis une quinzaine d'années, plusieurs études, essentiellement américaines mais aussi espagnoles et françaises, ont été menées pour chiffrer l'impact du travail féminin sur les performances des entreprises. Les résultats sont plus que probants quant à la capacité des femmes à accroître la rentabilité économique et financière de celles-ci.

La performance financière est liée à la mixité des comités de direction, telle a été la conclusion des études menées, en 2004, 2007 et 2011, au sein des cinq cents premières entreprises mondiales, par l'ONG américaine Catalyst. Entre 1996 et 2000, la rentabilité des entreprises à la plus grande mixité était de 35% supérieure aux autres, ce chiffre grimpant jusqu'à 53% en 2007. Les autres mesures comptables de performance (ROA et ROS [2]) étaient également meilleures en cas de présence de femmes dans les états-majors. suite>>

Mizrachi Economist Maoz 'Not Sacked', Says Excellence-Nesuah

Shlomo Maoz was not fired, says investment firm, only removed from some of his duties after "white tribe" comments. (ed: oh how the truth kills!)

Shlomo Maoz was not sacked by investment firm Excellence-Nesuah, but only relieved of some of his duties, an official in the firm told the Knesset Monday. Maoz, a Sephardic Jew, aroused the firm's ire when he made a speech denouncing "white" Ashkenazi elites that he claimed wield unfair power in the country.

Excellence-Nesuah's Deputy Director for Management, Moshe Barmak, told the Knesset's Finance Committee that Maoz was removed from the positions of chief economist and presenter, but continues to serve as director and funds manager.

The Finance Committee was scheduled to discuss the Maoz affair but did not do so because Maoz and Excellence-Nesuah's General Manager David Baruch both failed to show up for the session. Neither man explained why he did not come. continued>>

Saudi Women Shatter the Lingerie Ceiling

A SOCIAL revolution began in Saudi Arabia this month, and it has little if anything to do with the Arab Spring. Women are going to work in lingerie shops. The Ministry of Labor is enforcing a royal decree issued last summer ordering that sales personnel in shops selling garments and other goods, like cosmetics, that are only for women must be female.

More than 28,000 women applied for the jobs, the ministry said. Anywhere else in the world, it would not be news that sales assistants in shops selling panties and bras were female. In Saudi Arabia, where women have always been excluded from the public work force, it is a critical breakthrough. This is not just about intimate garments; this is a milestone on the arduous path to employment equality for women in a country where they are systematically excluded from retail activity.

The campaign to change the rules began several years ago, and was led by Reem Asaad, (seen above with her child) a fashion-conscious financial adviser who speaks flawless English and is comfortable with the Western media. more>>

Outsiders who wish for a return of the dictators are pushing against the inevitable tide of history. And Israelis who express a preference for Mubarak only contribute to the perception, widely held in Egypt, that the dictator was able to survive because he was supported by ‘the Zionists.’

The Egyptian election results are in, and two-thirds of the vote went to the Islamist parties. According to the New York Times, 47 percent of the votes went to the Freedom and Justice party, representing the 84-year-old Muslim Brotherhood, which invented political Islam; and 25 percent to the Nour party, representing the fundamentalist Salafists. My colleague Larry Derfner writes that if he had known what the results of this first post-Mubarak election would be, he would not have supported the revolutionaries. He describes Islamist parties’ victory as a “demoralizing defeat” for “we liberals” and concludes that the Middle East has taken a “giant leap backward.” continued>>

Some 3,000 career officers a year make the trip, which is preceded by a mandatory seminar at Yad Vashem or the Ghetto Fighters' House Museum. The Israel Defense Forces has been "stunned" by the findings of a new study which says an officers' visitation program to Nazi death camps, meant to reinforce Jewish and national values, has had the opposite effect on up to 20 percent of the soldiers.

The program, called Witnesses in Uniform, was founded in the 1990s and involves IDF officers visiting death camps in Poland. It was greatly expanded in the mid-2000s, under former Chief of Staff (and current Vice Prime Minister ) Moshe Ya'alon. Today, some 3,000 career officers a year make the trip, which is preceded by a mandatory seminar at either the Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum in Jerusalem or the Ghetto Fighters' House Museum in the Western Galilee. LONDON: Tunisian model Hanaa Ben Abdesslem has become the first-ever Muslim face of Lancome. The 22-year-old will be featured in a new campaign for Teint Idole Ultra 24h foundation.
The move has the young model poised for international stardom after she made her runway debut last year for Vivienne Westwood.
The young model hopes her success will help galvanize other Arab women to break the stereotype mold and believe in modeling as a career.

CAIRO: Iranian actress Golshifteh Farahani has left much of the Islamic world in an uproar over her nude image in a French magazine, which she then posted on Facebook. The actress has spoken out, saying she wanted to make a symbolic gesture about nudity and sex.

“This video clip is a symbolic gesture to remove the common taboos that exist in various societies and does not aim to promote nudity or sex,” a Facebook statement from her said. “By taking part in these photo shoots the people taking part wish to demonstrate their redemption from these taboos by the way they act and talk. continued>>
