I am co-ordinating a new/used soccer collection to be sent to Haiti in conjunction with Eurosport and the US Soccer Foundation.

As the world comes to terms with the aftermath of the devastating earthquake in Haiti, we search for ways we can make a difference. When dealing with a tragedy that has affected 3 million people and the collapse of an entire country, there is only one option: we must stand together. The Haitian national motto, “L’Union Fait La Force”, means “Unity Makes Strength”. Let’s build this unity with our shared passion for the beautiful game and its ability to bring people together in times of great joy – and of great need. Haiti United is built on the model that has shown the compassion and generosity of the US soccer community, whose past efforts include: Soccer United for the victims of the September 11th attacks and the Soccer United Relief Fund for the families and communities affected by Hurricane Katrina. Please join us in the collection of soccer equipment to help Haiti recover. Once the essential items such as food, water and medical supplies/services have taken hold in Haiti, it is important to focus on helping the country recover physically and mentally. Through the game of soccer, we can help. As of February 1st, we will be collecting any and all soccer equipment- both new and gently used to ship to organizations in Haiti. The main items we are looking to collect are: Soccer jerseys, soccer shorts, soccer socks, soccer shoes- cleats/indoors/turfs, shinguards, soccer balls, goalkeeper gloves/jerseys/pants/shorts, soccer nets, and cones. We encourage both individual and group donations.

This has been a GREAT FIRST SEASON FOR THE O-23 WOMENS SOCCER LEAGUE...
I'm glad i'm hearing MOST of you enjoyed it....
We hope to make next year even better and work out some of the kinks.....
I'll try to keep posting some new info as I get it soo we can all keep WOMENS SOCCER going in pittsburgh throughout the year.

For those of you who went to Buckhead Saloon... for the opening party for the WGPSLOVER 23 LEAGUE! Thanks for attending and it was a blast meeting everyone in person rather than seeing all the mug shots I've looked at for the past few months....
I'm stoked that we are actually getting a great start for our first season....
12 TEAMS ....I'm really proud of the 'Burgh now!!!!
Remember to look into getting a team together for the pa west ADULT Tournament ..... I believe its the 2nd year and we got to keep it going....... especially because I won't be playing in it till next year!!!

I know of a few teams that have had practice GREAT!!! that's what I like to hear...... Keep it up...

I'll be changing the blog a bit and trying to post more soccer than the Over 23 soo keep checking it out from time to time and sorry it hasn't been updated lately I'll work on it....

2) Season: Early June - Early August (8-10 week session)
3) Game Times: 6:15 pm & 7:15 pm - Tuesday and Thursday (your team will play once a week Tues or Thurs ) ; 1 hour games
4) Structure: 7 v 7 (teams should have at most 15 players)
5) Cost: $70 (includes $30 PA West player fee, costs for fields, referees, balls, t-shirt, etc...) If you are registered in more than one PA West league this summer (open, co-ed) you only have to pay the $30 PAWest fee once but you still owe $40 to the Over 23 Division.
6) Registration: NOW !! We will be accepting Individuals & Teams. DEADLINE is Friday April 25 !!
7) Individual: If you are an Individual, we will place you on a team preferably with others who live in your area. Our league is called PA West - WGPSL over 23 div
(Women's Greater Pittsburgh Soccer League)
Over 23 Division ~ As you can see we have lowered the age to Over 23...
In the near future we hope to grow the WGPSL to include Open, O-23, O-30, & eventually O-40 (Did you know there are some cities that even have O-60 Women's leagues?)
By lowering the age to 23 we don't lose the recent college graduates that may otherwise fall away from soccer.
Although many things are not concrete, this is what we can tell you so far:
1) Location: tentatively Reis Run Fields (located off both 279-Camp Horne & 79-Mt Nebo) for directions go to www.pawest-soccer.org/mapreisrun.html or go to http://www.mapquest.com/ under destination enter: 400 Reis Run Road Pittsburgh, PA 15237 (mapquest provides est. travel times!)
2) Game Times: 6:15 pm & 7:30 pm - Two WEEKNIGHTS (your team will play once a week tentatively Tues & Thurs or maybe mon & wed)
3) Structure: 7 v 7 (teams should have at most 15 players) ; 1 hour games
4) Cost: between $75- $90 (includes $30 PAWest player fee, costs for fields, referees, balls, t-shirt, first aid kit, etc...) We will try our best to keep costs low.
5) Registration: start: End of March ***details to follow*** (We will be accepting Individuals & Teams.)
6) Individual: If you are an Individual we will place you on a team preferably with others who live in your area. If, however, you would like to reconnect with former teammates, we are asking for your maiden name and a list of your prior teams.
