Benefits of IP Surveillance Networks

IP surveillance was once affordable only by large enterprises, but several factors have changed that situation. Today, most organizations have already installed IP networks upon which surveillance video transmissions can piggyback. Also, prices for IP video cameras and storage devices have fallen dramatically. As a result, IP surveillance is not only a viable choice for organizations of any size. It’s usually the best choice.

IP surveillance offers a number of benefits that analog installations can’t match.

• No new cabling: Traffic can be carried by an existing physical IP network. PoE (power over Ethernet) allows cameras to be connected to that network, eliminating the need for expensive Ethernet and power cabling to those cameras.

• Lower labor costs: Digital network-attached storage (NAS) devices reduce labor costs by eliminating the need for personnel to mount, replace and store tape cartridges and deal with all the other small but time-consuming problems endemic to tape systems.

• More convenient viewing access: Security personnel, administrators and other authorized parties can access surveillance video from any location on a 24/7 basis. Video clips can be distributed to law enforcement as e-mail attachments. There is never a need for third parties to visit the scene of an incident to view the video.

• More reliable storage: Unlike tape, digital storage doesn’t degrade over time or when copied. NAS devices incorporate redundancy features and data integrity checks to ensure that every bit of footage is captured and available on demand within a few seconds.

• Easier integration with applications: IP surveillance systems are much easier to integrate with monitoring applications, from simple motion detection to advanced video content analysis such as face or license plate recognition, because no analog-to-digital conversion is necessary.

• No risk of obsolescence: As the world becomes increasingly digital, analog surveillance systems will inevitably become obsolete over time, whereas IP surveillance systems are future-proof and will always be easy to upgrade, typically through software alone.

CCTV Surveillance Tips DVR Remote Viewing Over Local Network (LAN)

DVR Remote Viewing Over Local Network (LAN)
Procedure for most DVR'S
1) Connect DVR to router using CAT5 patch (straight thru) lead.
2) In internet explorer's address bar, type in the DVR'S factory default IP address e.g. "192.168.1.10"
If the DVR'S webpage loads up, then its working. Please install the supplied remote viewing software
as well.
Cannot Connect To Webpage
1) The DVR needs to be con gured to join your LAN (via its on-screen manu). You will need to have
your router/gateway IP address to hand. In windows run "ipcon g" command t o  nd the IP address
(See "remote viewing guide").
2) Enter the new network details into the DVR with the following as an example:
DVR IP Address. . . . . . . . . . .192.168.1.10
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
3) In internet explorer, type the following into the address bar : 192.168.1.10
It should now work. If its not working, then check cabling and check network security setting in internet
explorer (See guide).
DVR Remote Viewing Over The Internet
1) First make sure remote viewing over LAN works (See Above). Only then that remote viewing over
internet is attempted.
2) The DVR'S IP Address cannot be accessed through the internet as it is a "Private Number" to the
LAN that its connected to. I.E. 192.168.1.10 will not work if you are in another broadband location (try
this out of curiosity). Only the public IP address of the router is visible on the internet.
3) Con gure your r out er t o r ecogni se t he DVR as an appli cati on t hat r equir es port f orwar di ng ( See
Guide).
4) Once port forwarding setting are applied, type the Public IP address in the address bar of internet
explorer, I.E. " 82.193.143.24". It should now connect and the webpage of the DVR will load.
If its not working then the Port is not opened or your ISP (Internet service provider) is blocking the
Port (You should now try a different port number). If you choose another port number, also tell the
DVR to use that port as well.
Changing Internet Explorer Security Setting for Remote Viewing.
IE default setting may not allow DVR plugin to run.
Then reduce the security setting
1) Tools - Internet Options (Menu), Security (TAB), Custom Level (Button).
Active X control & Plugin "Enable"
Download signed activeX control ="Prompt"
Download unsigned activeX control ="Prompt"
2) Also check other activeX related items are set to "Prompt"
3) Once installed and remote viewing is working, go back to security setting and
click on Default Level (Button)

Bangladesh coach Jamie Siddons is expecting the Tigers to arrive at the party from the very first match of the ICC World T20 against India at Trent Bridge tomorrow (Saturday).

“I think everyone knows that we are dangerous at any time. We have some potential match-winners and one of them is sitting here (Mohammad Ashraful), at any form of the game but our consistency has not been there. We don’t want to lose this game, we want to win it but we are the underdogs and we are very relaxed about the game. We want to put our best foot forward and put them under some pressure,” said Siddons while speaking to the media at Trent Bridge today.

The Bangladesh side had a three-hour training session at Lady Bay just across the road from Trent Bridge in the morning after which Siddons and skipper Ashraful attended the media session at Trent Bridge. The captain then headed for London to attend the opening ceremony of the World T20.

Siddons said that expectations back home would spur the side on and the team’s total focus was on the India match because winning it would mean a place in the Super Eight.

“We have 140-150 million people back home who wish us well and want us to do well. Every time we lose they feel pain and every time we win they are happy. The public mean a lot to us and we want to impress them. We’ll have a crack at India and we don’t want to wait for the next game against Ireland to qualify for the Super Eights. We also know that we have to bat, bowl and field well to do that.”

“If we lose tomorrow then we have just one more chance. As you have said we have nothing to lose against India and in the second game Ireland have got nothing to lose against us. We don’t want to think about that game. We are thinking about the India game like you know win the toss, make some runs and put them under pressure and hopefully come out on top. We are going into the match to win it. If we do that then the Ireland match will be like a bonus practice match for us.”

The coach also felt that despite the relative youth of the side it was still an experienced unit and India would not want to wait and find out about the players.

“Most of the boys have been around for around 12-15 months now so inexperience is not an excuse for them. The fact that we have not played India that often might raise the question of surprises but there are visions and footages available and I’m sure they’ll (India) do their homework. Our boys are ready to play and it is time for them to step up.”

Siddons said the team was shaping up well and no longer happy with one-off wins.

“I have always said that I don’t want us to have that reputation because I will call it a fluke if we win one game out of 40-50. I don’t think this team is about flukes any more. They have done the work. We have really good depth in batting and bowling now. Two of our main bowlers are in our top six in the batting line up. That’s a bonus for us and not too many sides can say that. I think we have moved on from that fluky win and we have a chance of pushing anyone. We showed that in the practice matches. Against Australia we didn’t quite bowl that well because we were caught on the hop but then we batted really well and against Sri Lanka we played well also. We have moved on but the other teams are rated higher than us and are probably better teams on their day at the moment and are more consistent than us but if they slip up then we are happy to jump all over them.”

Ashraful said he the practice games have given the players confidence and the spirit was up.

“We ran top sides like New Zealand, Australia and Sri Lanka very close in the warm-ups and if we hadn’t made small mistakes here and there then we would have won all three. The boys are really pumped up for tomorrow’s game. Everyone is fit and raring to go.”

The skipper was also banking on his deputy Masrafe Mortaza to put up a special show which would inspire the team.

“Masrafe has always done well against India and has won us matches against them .He has been our best player against India both with the bat and ball. Our team has always found that something extra while facing India.”

Ashraful said the spirit in the side reminded him of the mood prior to the 2007 World Cup in the West Indies when the Tigers knocked India out of the competition.

“I remember that each and everyone in the team believed that we could beat them and we did. I could feel that energy before the match and even when we were warming up at Port of Spain. We will give it our best shot tomorrow knowing that in this form of the game any side can beat the other.”

The Group A match starts at 6pm local time (11pm Bangladesh Standard Time). Bangladesh’s second and last group game is against Ireland at the same venue on June 8. That match will commence at 1:30pm local time (6:30pm Bangladesh Standard Time).

The Tigers have decided to wait till the team meeting tomorrow morning to finalise the XI against India

Skype has been pushing to make its service work on the most popular advanced phones with an aim to expending its more than 400 million users who were mostly lured by the promise of cheap and sometimes free calls made using its computer application. Skype Chief Operating Officer Scott Durchslag said he has high hopes for the application's success on Apple Inc's popular iPhone as he expects Skype's most feature-rich mobile offering to appeal to new and existing customers. "The No. 1 request we get from customers is to make Skype available on iPhone. There's a pent-up demand," Durchslag said in an interview before the CTIA annual mobile showcase in Las Vegas, where Skype plans to launch the service on Tuesday. In May it will launch Skype for Research In Motion's BlackBerry devices, which popularized mobile email. It has already announced Skype for Nokia phones and for phones based on Android, Google Inc's mobile system, and Windows Mobile, from Microsoft Corp. CCS Insight analyst Ben Wood said the new applications give Skype a chance to boost its mobile phone position, which has been weaker than that of social sites such as Facebook, Twitter or News Corp's MySpace. One of Skype's unusual iPhone features is the fact that it allows subscribers use to the phone numbers in their existing iPhone address book so they do not need duplicate lists. "Whether you're Twitter, MySpace or Facebook you want to be embedded in the address book," said Wood. "This puts Skype firmly into the game." Skype's iPhone application will be free to download and will allow free calls between Skype users. As with Skype on the desktop, fees will be charged for calls to traditional phones. The service will also work on later versions of Apple's latest iPod Touch device, which has Wi-Fi links but no cellular connection. The iPod Touch launched September 2008 has a microphone, unlike the first iPod Touch launched in 2007. While Skype video is very popular with desktop customers, Durchslag said that the company is still considering whether it will offer video for the iPhone or other phones. "We're considering video carefully but we have a really high bar on the quality," and how the user interaction will work with other applications on iPhone, he said. "If we do it we will have to do it incredibly well." CCS's Wood said that if Skype can replicate the popularity of its desktop video feature on the cellphone it would help a mobile category that has been slow to take off, as well as boost its own status in cellphones. "I'm firmly convinced that if Skype could find a way to bridge all those cellphone cameras and laptop cameras it might kick start a video telephony opportunity," he said. While mobile Skype has has been available for some time in other countries such as the United Kingdom, it has been slow to catch on in the United States partly due to carrier concern that it would cannibalize their phone call revenue. In the United States for example, AT&T Inc has had a monopoly on calls made from iPhones, as it is the exclusive carrier here. But Wood said that Skype has actually shown that it can boost consumer spending on cellphones as it encourages use of the phones for other services such as data. For example he said that its success on networks such as 3 UK, owned by Hutchison Whampoa Ltd, suggests that carrier fears have been unfounded. "The only area where I think there are some question mark is that it could erode roaming revenues," he said, noting that some consumers particularly in Europe hesitate to use their phones while outside of their carrier territory because of notoriously high roaming fees. "The carriers will be suspicious of this service but what we've learned from other markets is that (Skype) did not have the detrimental effect feared," he said.
