A Forgotten Arts & Craft Movement

Pyrography, or Woodburning as many know it, is a form of arts & Crafts that many have forgotten, but on the other hand it has also transformed Its' history and the arts & craft movement are two things we look at.

Nowadays, so many people are just looking for the quick buck in everything they do and woodburning or pyrography is no exception. You will see people just starting out trying to sell their first pieces and trying to learn how to make money with pyrography. This is not the reason you get started with this, and if so then you are in for a VERY quick wake up call.. Don't get me wrong, some people do make money with pyrography, woodburning, carving and other related areas, but the vast majority never do. One of the main reasons for this is the automation technology has brought us versus several years ago. Now a machine can spit out a piece of wood, or just about any material for that matter, with any design burned, carved, chiseled, drawn, well you get the picture...

SO, just make sure your main goal is to have fun when getting started in pyrography. It is a very nice little hobby that could at some point put a buck or two in your pocket, but if you aren't doing it for fun then i can almost guarantee that point will never come..

Ebay's auction & fixed price sales insertion fees start @.20 and go up, yet your store listing is only .02 for 30 days as compared to 1-7 days or 10 days (which costs another dime) via other formats of selling.

Now there are truly 2 types of items to sell in your store. First you can always sell your merchandise and secondly you can sell penny type auctions. Looking at your merchandise first:
THe store format offers an "ebay express" format, but is listed with auction items. Many buyers simply do not want to bid & wait on the item due to several reasons. THink of it this way, if you were going to get your spouse a birthday gift you would want to ensure that it arrived on time. By bidding on auctions you could get out-bid and not even get the item, you could bid on several to try to ensure you win but you win multiple auctions of same item, or you bid on the item and are going to win but the auction doesn't end for 6-8 days... So, rather than taking the chances mentioned and others, as well as all the time involved, many buyers will pay a premium price to buy the item directly from your store.
Additional exposure:
Many sellers don't even know that their store items recieve exposure through google's froggle shopping system and other venues such as this & search engines. Google will not list "auction" style items in their system, but the store items make it in and with the new "GOOGLE CHECKOUT" system just beginning google may see an increase in "buyer" traffic very soon.

Also, if you sell the multiple items that are all basically the same or have an on-line store then your past closed auctions also show up in many search engines, which can lead new buyers to your current items.... The key here is to ensure in the description of items to include some way for the potential buyer to get to your current items. If your items are on ebay it is as easy as including something similar to: "please check out my other auctions/items".. And get a link to your store in your listing-where ebay doesn't allow you to place your actual "store" link in the description. You can among other things include your site name with payment info, place a link to a "guarantee" or "privacy policy" which in turn will show your site's name and a link from it to the home page of site...

Now the penny auctions... Many people including myself used to think that you made $$ by selling these and having a personal paypal account so paypal doesn't take the $$ as it's fee. Where you can make a little this way, the true value of these auctions are the content you sell. Within the e-book or whatever it is you sell be sure to include affiliate links to products the person can buy and links to your products and/or site. This can turn into a huge revenue if targeted correctly. For each item you sell for a penny you can guarantee that at a minimum of 33% of buyers will not even open it, but of the ones that do you are generating potential for affiliate sales and/or other revenue possibilities. Also, and this is where many miss it, the buyer will usually pass this info on to others and several will SELL the SAME ebook you sold them and then the cycle continues which puts the info into more hands and eventually enough people that are actually interested in the topic will read the information and generate revenue for you OUTSIDE OF EBAY!!! wow.. no fees involved. Actually, we sold one ebook approx. 3 years ago, and this was before the penny fad, so we made a small profit just from the selling of the book (which can still be done just not as easily), but continued to generate affiliate sales for over 2 years after we discontinued selling the ebook, and will prob. see additional revenue in the future from this 1 source!!

To sign up for an ebay store just click below:

<a href="<$http://woodburningtips.blogspot.com/atom.xml $>" title="Atom feed">Site Feed

Got New wood CEDAR to Burn... very nice What's your favorite??

We just went out and got some CEDAR wood to burn some signs for family... My father wants one saying "If ya can't be civil...... BE GONE!!" lol.. I thought it was a very funny one... I have burned many types of wood and am seeing a lot more sites on pyrography on google and yahoo's search engine.. We are in the process of getting a site up on wood burning/pyrography and were looking to sell some Basic signs such as the ones we have already made ex.. Childs name w/ train in middle or other object.. Or round wood with (this was for my cousin) "we don't rent pigs" LOL and have a cactus, bull's skull, and cowboy had burned around it... just some basic stuff and try to re-coup our fees through the pyrography.... We also thought the new wood types would be an asset, as we are from Arkansas and own or have family that own a lot of land to get GOOD wood from rather than the mass produced wood you can get from stores such as hobby lobby and such.. If you would like a sign made let us know and we will send you some samples and get a price (WE ARE VERY CHEAP AS IT IS JUST A HOBBY)... and would like to get some customers out there that can spread the word about our burning... Has anyone done this before?? we have done a few swap meets/flea market type settings and done Okay through them, but the experience is pretty limited... Mainly family and a few friends is our audience right now, but would like to increase that to serve not just the US but all over the world... Let me know what you think please and if you have tried anything productive.. On-line store, web-site, flea market, newspaper ad, EBAY??, anything or just a comment.... Burning can be done on various materials such as wood, leather, tagua nut, bone, horn, paper, and other surfaces. In more recent history, the Victorian era found pyrography to be a promising art, according to the ladies' magazines of the time. These articles fueled the popularity of this unique art also referred to as "Pokerwork".

Within our research we have found many different "claims" to the beginning of "pyrography". All in all we have found that wood burning/pyrography in general is different in every persons eyes and you must "let your mood guide you" while working with wood. When you really think about it, you are bringing nature back together with humans... In today's time we are custom to the "high-tech" times and seem to forget about nature: the forest on a sunny day with the wind blowing through the leaves and laying on the flowing grass right at the end of the tallest trees shadows or those rainy days where you used to sit underneath the "big" oak (or similar) tree and wish the rain away.... Just those "good OLD" times that tend to slip our memories, but HERE it is finally a true HOBBY that can bring us back to NATURE.... GIVE IT A TRY!!!

<a href="<$http://woodburningtips.blogspot.com/atom.xml $>" title="Atom feed">Site Feed

More pyrography/wood burning history... Cool information

There are many different account of how pyrography/woodburning started and we have found many different upon research below is what one reader sent up and only wanted to be known as Marty S. from Kansas... (FYI: if you send us information/comments/questions please let us know if we can post it and who to give credit to...) This is pretty interesting and goes along with a lot of the research we have done
The Pyro (fire) Graphics (expression with lines) art form is limited only by that which can be burnt. As one of the very first art forms invented, primitive man combined fire and wood to make drawings by rubbing a charred stick against a textured surface, or by chewing a charred branch and mixing it with salvia to make black paint. These forms are evidenced in the preserved cave galleries where primitive man first displayed his art on walls
In the 1600's and 1700's Europeans would heat small metal rods, or "pokers" in a fire to make drawings. Since these rods would soon cool off and could no longer be used to burn, artists would have several metal rods in the fire to be able to continuously burn, which is the origin of the saying: "having more than one iron in the fire". Since then many devices have been made to make fire writings, but modern artists most commonly use an electric metal or wire tipped pen to burn designs onto wood, paper, leather, bone or gourds. Many skills are involved: designing, drawing, painting, carving, wood work and finishing, even computer skills are used for graphic art design and pattern making.

My Fire Art is done mostly on wood, usually, Italian Poplar, Birch, Basswood or Myrtlewood plaques, plates, spoons and boxes. Various methods are used to color some items, the most typical being oil based colored pencils which work well on wood. Stained and colored items are sealed with a satin finish coat for color preservation. Other items are left natural, or rubbed with a food grade oil in the case of cooking utensils. Those items which have been stained or colorized are decorative only, and should not be used for cooking.

well Marty sounds like you are up to date on your history and please feel free to post along with anyone else..
ALSO if you just want to email please feel free to email us at workfromhome247@gmail.com or websignup44@hotmail.com Thanks again and WE appreciate the continued following as now we have over 100 unique repeated visitors daily!!! EBAY, PAY PER CLICK, PAID ADS, ADSENSE

Internet Marketing, The Viscous Cycle and A Way Out
© Copyright 2005 Stu McLaren

One question that I hear more then any other in the internet
marketing world is ¡°What is the quickest way I can start
generating a profit¡±?

My biggest piece of advice... FOCUS!!

There are a TON of different ways to make money online
but whatever you decide to pursue you've got to focus all
your energy on it.

There's an Internet Marketing (IM) trap and it goes like
this...

1) You start signing up for everyone's email list to "learn for
free"

2) You start seeing what everyone is doing and you think to
yourself... "I should do that"

3) You finally get the courage to start pursuing something
but you actually start pursuing everything. You go in all
different directions and only make a half assed effort one
way or the other.

4) Because you didn't experience "ultimate success" the
first go around, you start buying products and information
on IM.

5) Well unfortunately that takes you in 50 different
directions because although the advice from most of the
big named gurus is good, they all have a different
approach.

6) Then you spend some more money following another
strategy that you heard about or you buy some
resell/private label/public domain materials hoping that
just through the nature of putting it up on the web, sales will
start coming in.

7) Because sales aren't pouring in, you decide to buy
some traffic from Google Adwords.

8) After your Google Adwords account gets run up and
you've blown a whack of cash AND still don't have that
many sales you start to get a bitter taste in your mouth
about IM.

9) Then it hits you... I'm all over the place and don't have a
plan at all.

How do I know this?

This was my exact story.

I'll never forget the moment when a well known internet
marketer shared with me an ENORMOUS tip that this year
has helped put thousands of dollars in my bank account.

I was eagerly showing him my big elaborate mind map of
another "million dollar idea" when he did something that
confused me at first, but then made total sense.

He closed my mind mapping software on my computer
and said focus.

So...

1) Figure out "how" you want to make money online. Do
you want to create and sell your own products? Do you
want to make money with Adsense? Do you want to do
affiliate marketing? Do you want to buy and sell on eBay?

2) Think through the process of what you want to do.
What's the first thing that needs to happen? The second?
The third?

Create a flow chart to help you understand clearly the
"steps" in the process. Then focus on each step and either
master them yourself or find reliable outsourcing partners
who can take care of certain "steps" for you.

3) Start taking consistent action!!

This is where most people drop the ball. They jump in too
quick, loose some money and get out. It takes consistent
action of doing the same things over and over. Build
momentum over time.

My last tip would be to focus on who you like learning from.

In the beginning, when you narrow down who you learn
from the process becomes clear a lot more quickly. I
zeroed in on two people first and then slowly (very slowly)
branched off once I had a grip on where I was heading and
had implemented what I had learned.

Hopefully that helps because if I had followed this earlier,
my life would have been a heck of a lot easier!

Here¡¯s to your ¡°early days¡± being more lucrative than mine
were!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Don't let your brainchild go to waste! No links or selling just the RAW INFORMATION FREE NOT PAID

As with so many things, the ideas that really 'work' on the
Internet are often the most simple. In fact, they are
often the ideas that most people would just discard as
being too ridiculous to even try (this doesn't just apply
to the Internet of course - many great
inventors/entrepreneurs have been laughed at in the past
only to have the last laugh themselves...).

Anyway, I have been following the story of one such idea
over the past couple of months and although I am sure many
of you will already be familiar with it, I wanted to share
some thoughts with you.

The site in question is called the Million Dollar Home
Page. This site was the brainchild of an English guy by
the name of Alex Tew. Alex is 21 and back in August was
about to start university. Being only too aware of the
fact that many students end up finishing their education
with huge debts to repay, he decided to try and generate
sufficient funds to cover his expenses whilst studying
using the power of the Internet.

The basic concept of the Million Dollar Home Page is that
website owners can buy advertising space on the home page
of the site at a cost of $1 per pixel. The smallest
advertising block you can purchase is 10x10 pixels, hence a
cost of $100. There are a million pixels available for
purchase, thus if Alex succeeds in selling them all, he
will have raised a cool $1million!

On the face of it, this is a crazy idea - why would anyone
want to pay to put a tiny graphic on a page of thousands of
other tiny graphics on the off-chance that someone might
click on it? If you had asked me 3 months ago (ie. prior
to the site being launched) if I thought it was worth
doing, I would have said 'no' (as indeed, I think most
people would have done). How wrong I was....

Alex launched the site at the end of August and right away
started to try and generate press interest. This approach
worked superbly and he has had International press coverage
over the past couple of months which has helped to spread
the word about his site in the viral manner that is only
possible via the Internet. Result? At the time of writing
this article, Alex had sold over half a million pixels -
yup, that means he has generated over $500,000 in income in
just 2 months! At this rate he will achieve his target of
selling a million pixels by the end of the year and even if
he doesn't sell another pixel, he has still done superbly
well.

So what can we learn from this?

Well the first thing is that even the wackiest ideas can
work and it doesn't matter how simple a theory may be, it
is worth giving it a shot. You don't get much simpler than
the idea for the Million Dollar Home Page - in effect, this
could have been a one-page site. As it is, Alex has added
other pages such as a blog and press release info which
helps to make the site even more appealing as people like
to read stories such as this as they happen.

Clearly you don't need a 1000 page website with lots of
complicated programming running in the background to earn
half a million dollars - one page will do it! :-)

The second thing to note is that the way in which the
Internet can spread the word about a website is hugely
powerful. Admittedly much of the PR that Alex obtained was
via television/radio and newspaper articles/features but an
enormous amount of the traffic and customers that he has
received will have been via people emailing his link to
their friends and by hearing about the site from articles
such as this one. Remember, all of this 'advertising' is
completely free and it doesn't get better than that.

Of course it didn't take long for the copycats to show up
and there are now several hundred similar websites online -
many of them haven't even bothered to change the style or
wording from the original site and have just copied and
pasted Alex's work. How lazy can you get? It is a fact
that if you have a good idea that makes money on the
Internet, sooner or later someone will copy it. I know
this from my own experience! What all of these copycats
miss is why an idea such as this works - it is a one-off
and the only person that is going to make any serious money
from it is the guy who was first to the table, ie. Alex.
You see this so often both on and offline - how many people
are still trying to set up online auction sites that are
never going to work because eBay is already too far ahead
of the game?

I have even seen several people selling scripts that
automate the admin functions of a 'pixels for sale' page so
that you can set up your own pixel site without having to
manually add graphics/links etc! At least this shows a
little imagination and doesn't rip off the original idea
completely :-)

In summary, Alex has to be commended for coming up with a
brilliantly simple idea and for actually seeing it through.
The advertisers will almost certainly be seeing increased
traffic since the very nature of the site encourages
visitors to click on a couple of graphics 'just to see'.
Of course, this traffic won't be targeted and for the most
part therefore, will be pretty poor quality but as they
say, there is no such thing as bad traffic.

The Million Dollar Home Page is a perfect example of how a
basic idea can be let loose online and allowed to generate
a small fortune from nothing in a very short space of time.
The best ideas are yet to come and to repeat a quote that
I used a few months ago, 'Most of the people that will
become Internet millionaires don't even have a website
yet...'

Three months ago Alex fell into that category, today he has
a website and I willing to bet that in a few months time he
will also have the $1m to go with it. Will it be your turn
next....?
<a href="<$http://woodburningtips.blogspot.com/atom.xml $>" title="Atom feed">Site Feed

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://woodburningtips.blogspot.com/2006/01/million-dolars-in-4-months-no-links-or.html' title='A Million DOlars in 4 months?? Mantle to Marilyn talking autographs.. WELCOME

THis is a great post... There is not any "TRUE POLICE" in this area and a lot of individuals are taking MAJOR advantage of the consumers... Unfortunately PSA/DNA was a good concept, but the market and BUSINESS, which is MONEY, has shown that some will lower their standards to get create more wealth... I really hate this as at one time it was a "hobby" and "hobby" shops could survive, but with this it continues to show the "ENRONS" of America will be there in every industry. Although, a lot of people will agree that the true theives are the forgers and YES they are criminals and should be punished by law, but what about the other THEIVES... THe ones that prey on innocent collectors and because of their capital to invest and market with they can actually be as much of the problem as the forgery artists. You hear and I do agree that the best way is to buy from a dealer you know personally or trust if you can not get it in person, but a lot of people are putting faith and trust in some companies such as PSA because of their advertising/marketing. It just makes me sick to know that this company is rated the LOWEST possible on the BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU's scale, but people just don't know it because they hide behind a different name in COLLECTOR's UNIVERSE....
<a href="<$http://woodburningtips.blogspot.com/atom.xml $>" title="Atom feed">Site Feed

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://woodburningtips.blogspot.com/2006/01/autograph-legends-hollywood-sports-all.html' title='AUTOGRAPH LEGENDS: HOLLYWOOD & SPORTS all you need: Autograph Legends GOES BLOG... Check out www.biz.ly not sure if they have pop ups or not yet, but it looks as they do. That is too bad b/c they have a pretty good page builder and actually have service even for the FREE web pages.. Your page stays as a sub-domain though and NO ADSENSE from GOOGLE to make any extra income so it looks to be going down hill somewhat but for a FREE page check them out... I put up one href"www.homebusinessreviews.biz.ly"HERE Check it out and you will see the extra's they add on it... Let me know of any ones you tried with any luck... We had about 20 visitors our first week and have stayed consistent with that... Have not done much SEO especially since GOOGLE isn't available for adsense to make money... But ya can hit up some affiliates if you get the content rich pages going good...
<a href="<$http://woodburningtips.blogspot.com/atom.xml $>" title="Atom feed">Site Feed

MAKE Money Paid Surveys... Real NOt Scam

WOW... We have really found some survey type places to make $$$ with actually just following a few simple directions and signing up for items (that are 100% FREE). I know you have read all these sites that said "FREE SURVEY's" and then they want you to buy the list or sign up and pay them so much for "giving you this information", we did the same thing. However after months of research we have actually found paid surveys that offer an opportunity to make money guaranteed. We have searched Google, Yahoo, basically all the engines and found the same people are offering this for around $35-$99, but we will give it to you free. As you can see if you look at our title we do wood burning, but this gives the income to continue this for free. Do not expect to become a millionaire in a few days months or years, but you can expect ot make an additional income from this WITHOUT ANY CATCH... FOr the first one please check out our earlier post about getting $5 for just signing up for ebay and placing a bid... Even if you have an account already just make a new one and place a bid on something for a penny or whatever and you will get the $5.. Usually takes about 48-72 hours. You can also get others to sign up and receive $3 per person... We have many such as this and will be offering them to you. NEXT QUESTION IS WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?? We do make a percentage off of your sign-up. The reason we can do this is we have over 500+ sign-ups per month so our end is higher. When you get to this level we will give you the same opportunity and if you do the math just at $3 per sign up you would have $1500 per month if you signed up 500 people.. Sounds like a lot, but you will be able to pay them to sign up... At first this sounds like hmmmmmm can't be real, but remember when paypal paid $5 to start an account and paid the person who refferred... This is same concept so the first step is to go to post $5 EBAYPOST ANd just click on ebay and sign-up place a bid and there ya go...
<a href="<$http://woodburningtips.blogspot.com/atom.xml $>" title="Atom feed">Site Feed

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://woodburningtips.blogspot.com/2006/01/make-money-paid-surveys-real-not-scam.html' title='MAKE Money Paid Surveys... We have been making a majority of our income on-line for 3 years now, and have done it PT for over 10 years. The difference: PEOPLE ARE NOT SCARED OF THE WEB anymore. Back in the mid 90's a lot of people were still thinking about "credit card fraud" and didn't realize that each time they wrote a check they were giving the person all they needed to clean out their checking account in minutes!!! But today, with the exception of a few VERY CONSERVATIVE individuals, most people understand that Credit Cards have a chargeback function that is the SAFEST way to make any purchase. Back to the topic... making money.... Well, we obviously used Ebay through the years, but with the growth we really are SICK of ebay and their hypocritical policies especially regarding Paypal, which is the most unbelievable Scam I have ever been witness to. I won't lie I wish i had control of everyones money to do as i please, which is what they do... HMMMMM... should i freeze 100 accts. today and pocket the interest for 180 days or just keep all the $$$.. Pyrography has its modern day roots in nineteenth century France though it was practiced much earlier in other parts of Europe. Women's Home Companion in an 1899 article accredits two Frenchmen, M.M. Pacquelin and Manual Perier with its modernization and commercialization. Pyrography was especially popular in the United States, Canada, Australia, Britain (where it was known as "poker art"), and France, Germany, and Austria from about 1870 to 1930. Earlier pyrography was practiced in Germany, Spain, Czechoslovakia, Poland, and Spain to name a few more countries. Many tribal cultures such as those of the Zulu s in Africa, the Australian Aboriginal, some northeastern Native American tribes, and tribal New Guinea and Oceania utilized a cruder burntwood form for decorating utilitarian goods. Nice, reasonably priced pyrographic examples from these countries and tribal cultures can still be found with a bit of searching. In America today pyrography is alive and well and is still widely practiced in craft circles.
The standard pyrographic equipment of the turn of the century included kits containing metal platinum points with wood handles used to scorch or burn wood and leather surfaces; a spirit lamp; a glass container to hold benzene or alcohol; rubber tubes- one attached to a syringe like bulb; and oils and stains. The platinum points could be kept hot by pumping gas with the bulb to the platinum tip. A wooden box or leather object could be incised with a desired design. Wood burning sets with instructions could be purchased from commercial suppliers in France and in the United States of America. In addition, these same suppliers offered catalogs featuring small unfinished wood and leather objects as well as more expensive cased furniture "blanks" stamped with a specific pattern ready for burning. The pyrographer could then burn and finish the object following the stamped design on the piece or else he or she could incise their own design without the benefit of the stamped impressions for a unique embellishment.

<a href="<$http://woodburningtips.blogspot.com/atom.xml $>" title="Atom feed">Site Feed

Quality & Design Wood Burning Pynography Artist & Trends

Quality and Design Vary with Artist and Trends
Finishing techniques and quality vary with the professionalism of the amateur artist. Some objects could be purchased completely finished from manufacturer catalog suppliers such as Chicago based Thayer and Chandler- high quality examples executed by professional tradespeople. Alternatively, most pyrographers preferred to finish their own goods and so the work of budding amateurs may lack clarity of detail and design. Red, green, and yellow stains were common stains used in their finish work. Period publications like "the Modern Priscilla" or "Women's Home Companion" offered additional patterns for active pyrographers that could be applied to all sorts of items: handkerchief boxes, mirrors, plaques, even wood and leather postcards! The more ambitious could tackle larger, more expensive and more time consuming case pieces: chairs, tables, desks, bookshelves, and even large leather hides. Design motifs include: nouveau, deco, mission including native American, Dutch, English medieval, Gibson Girls, and popular themes of the time.
While small pyrographic boxes are still abundant today for less than $25 a piece, larger furniture size pieces and unusual accessories that are finely incised and well executed are always hard to find. Nicely painted pieces in original condition are rarer still. The scarcest of all are pieces made by folk artists from scratch and who developed their very own unique embellishments in contrast to amateur artisans who simply "followed the dots" by buying pre manufactured pieces with manufacturer stamped patterns. There were however a handful of genuine American professional pyrographers who elevated the artform from amateur folkart to fine art.

<a href="<$http://woodburningtips.blogspot.com/atom.xml $>" title="Atom feed">Site Feed

Charles Turner: Boston Etcher & Pyrographer... Turner: Boston Etcher and Professional Pyrographer
Charles Henry Francis Turner (1848-1908) , a Boston etcher and fine arts painter at the turn of the century, created some of the finest, most detailed pyrographic artworks. Because of his sojourn to France in the late l880's, he specialized in European and French influenced master paintings and portraits. This stint undoubtedly influenced his love of painting portraits and no doubt exposed him to early French pyrography...an artform which he later practiced and brought to America. At least three pyrographic portraits of European ladies are known to exist along with one outstanding pyrographic furniture piece: an oak blanket chest which he incised on the top lid: "This chest decorated in pyrography by me Charles H.F. Turner for my grand daughter Elise 1901". He signs his pyrographic artworks "CHT" and he was a frequent exhibitor at the Boston Art Club including the Boston Art Exhibition in 1898 where his portrait of a classic French Lady was exhibited. Pyrographic commercialization took a giant step forward when a Midwestern firm attempted marketing pyrographic embellished mission furniture during the hey day of the American arts and crafts movement.

<a href="<$http://woodburningtips.blogspot.com/atom.xml $>" title="Atom feed">Site Feed

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://woodburningtips.blogspot.com/2006/01/charles-turner-boston-etcher.html' title='Charles Turner: Boston Etcher & Pyrographer... They issued a catalog of pyrographic embellished oak furniture and accessories according to the Grand Rapids Furniture Record of October, 1901. Little is known of their eventual success but judging from existing artworks in collections, it was a short lived experiment as only a handful of surviving pieces are known.

<a href="<$http://woodburningtips.blogspot.com/atom.xml $>" title="Atom feed">Site Feed

PYNOGRAPHY- Value... Form Quality, Artisan, Supply & Demand.. Chairs

Like any arts and crafts category, value depends on form, quality, artisan, supply and demand. Chairs, tables, and book shelves can still be found for just a few hundred dollars a piece though exceptional pieces such as a grandfather clock or scratch made cabinet could be worth thousands. Larger cased pieces are difficult to find. They are rare because they were not mass produced in large numbers, often took months and sometimes years to incise, were the most expensive to purchase as blanks from manufacturers, and suffered the ravages of time. Unique forms built and burned from scratch by folk artisans with fine design and in good condition are genuine prizes. Tribal burntwood artworks from Australian Aboriginal, Oceania , African and Native American cultures are receiving greater interest from dealers and collectors as this new category opportunity emerges and reasonable prices still exist..
Patient collectors and savvy dealers will be rewarded by seeking and acquiring good quality, larger sized pieces or unusual smaller pyrography forms including tribal burntwood artworks. If you are lucky enough to find a scarce pyrography catalog by Chicago based Thayer and Chandler Company- one of several turn-of-the-century commercial pyrography suppliers- by all means snap it up...it would make a fine acquisition to round out your collection!
<a href="<$http://woodburningtips.blogspot.com/atom.xml $>" title="Atom feed">Site Feed

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://woodburningtips.blogspot.com/2006/01/pynography-value-form-quality-artisan.html' title='PYNOGRAPHY- Value...
