Summertime fabric bundle and patterns

Hello and welcome to summer! If you're in the northern hemisphere :) We just finished our first week of school break and I have to say it's going pretty well. I think this is the first summer where I'm not worried about little people drowning, or getting lost running away on adventures, or anything like that, and I have to say- it's really nice! The boys are at such fun ages for just hanging out and having fun.

If you saw my IG stories on Saturday, you know that they were hard at work rolling out a new fabric bundle for you, which will be available Tuesday morning at 9AM PST. Don't worry, the boys are always well compensated, sometimes with outings, treats, but this time with cold hard cash. I assume they wanted it mostly for the ice cream truck. They are set for the summer, haha!

As usual, I wanted to share a few pattern suggestions for the bundle I'm releasing this week. First up is Star Kisses, which always works really well with larger scale prints and busy color combos. The blocks finish at 18" so it's a satisfying sew and showcases all those beautiful florals.

I mocked it up with solids for the star points as well, which gives it a little more punch. All of the solids are from Riley Blake, and are named: Frosting, Cayenne, Riley Yellow, Riley Green, Sea Glass, and Denim. Keep that in mind for bindings, cornerstones, or any other accents you may want to coordinate.

Gingham Windows by Flamingo Toes is also wonderful for showcasing larger scale prints in a simple and easy way. I would use Cassidy Coral Gingham for the sashing and Riley Blake Cayenne solid for the cornerstones to get a similar look. Any white will do! There are mixed whites in the bundle.

As you know, I have a serious thing for granny squares, and I've already released several different patterns and tutorials with that motif. I had another granny square idea for this bundle, but I need 3 more of me to pull off all the ideas I have regarding fabric pulls, so I don't have an official pattern for this one, but I can give some rough math for it! It's just two blocks repeated. They are 10" blocks in a 7 x 8 grid for a 70" x 80" finished quilt.

Here are the two main blocks- each of them made of 2.5" cut squares. You could use the Frosting and Cayenne solids for sashing and center pieces. If you cut (20) 2.5" squares from 28 fat quarters (yes, you'd need to add two of your own, or use a solid) that will give you enough to use each print twice in different blocks, once set for the inner row and one for the outer. The random outer edge prints can be filled in with the extras.

You make 28 A blocks and 28 B blocks.

The A blocks need to be made first and put in the desired placement, and from there you can figure out how to make the B blocks, like this:

Sorry that's the best I have for now! I have a long list of pattern I need to write.

The following is a quilt from my Pinterest board, and I've done everything I could think of to try and find the source, with no luck. I think that a classic Dresden quilt with the crosshatch quilting in between would be just so darling and happy in these fabrics!

This Scrappy Rail Fence by Blooming in Chintz would be amazing! Just place the lighter prints in the center of the block, like she has very skillfully done here. It would be super cute! You could strip piece them to start off too, so fast and easy!

Lastly I think this fabric would lend itself very well to a diamond quilt like I've shared many times. I don't have a pattern, but I do have a video tutorial on my IG. I don't know how to mock up angles like this yet, which is why I haven't written the pattern honestly. But I would do just a print and white in each block, with a color background overall, kind of like this quilt from Tia Curtis Quilts. She did the incredible custom quilting! She didn't link to the maker. Riley Yellow would be so cute, and I'd do the larger, 16-patch diamonds with the chunkier angle.

Sewing Space Update

If you read my last email, you know there's been a lot of upheaval around here in the last year, and all of the potential changes, and real changes, meant I didn't sew much at all. In the last few weeks I've settled into the idea that for now, things are going to remain as they are. That meant unpacking all of my fabric, selling some of it, reinstalling my design wall (it's just batting tacked up) and settling back into my space, which is located on both ends of our large primary bedroom. I thought I'd give you a little tour of the current sewing space now that we're back in business in here!

This is all of my fabric currently, with the low volumes partially showing on the right, and minus a tote of larger cuts and backings in my closet. I used ChatGPT to search a shelving unit that would fit perfectly under this table, and it worked! I'm so pleased with this arrangement. If you have the IKEA Skarsta desk and keep it at standing, this is a really great option for you! Also, if you have more or less fabric than this, no judgement here. I find that I get overwhelmed with a ton, but it is a constant battle to keep it pared down, especially since I started selling bundles myself.

My latest project is this low volume quilt with rainbow diagonals of color. The pattern is from my book, and the pattern is called Red Rover. I'm using my stash for the low volumes, and RJR Sweet Shoppe fabric. I so wish they would print this again! It's just the prettiest colors. I'm about halfway there on the blocks, which finish at 12".

On the right you can see I'm making another diamond quilt with leftover strips from a baby quilt I gifted last year. All fabric was from my stash! I was off Instagram at the time, so I never shared it, but it was a really cute fabric pull and I made my Baby Basket pattern. It was backed in white minky from Cali Quilt Co., which is local to me but they ship too. They have a LOT of minky options! It's quilted in loopy little hearts by Emilee of Paisley, Prints, and Polka Dots. I gifted it to my dear friend and neighbor who had a baby girl last fall.

I'm loving using these leftovers in a cute way. It's my goal to write a pattern or do an official tutorial for this one, though there are pretty detailed in instructions on IG. I've made it a few times now, but I still don't always get those points right. I'm lost without perpendicular nesting seams! Still cute.

Here's the last little corner, with my trusty Opal. My Juki is currently in the shop, and I sure hope she comes back working better. Remember last fall when I thought I was going crazy and my seam allowance was way off? Well it turns out my needle position WAS off. I have no idea how that happened, but it likely involved the very busy and helpful 6 year old who plays in here often. For now I'm moving through projects on this slow but steady old girl. I appreciate her for her fancy stitches, but she sure does take her time compared to the Juki!

The boxes under the table on the left are scrapbook boxes from Walmart and they have my WIPs in them. There's some goooood stuff in there!

I recently ordered this capybara fabric since it reminds my of my parents' time in Bolivia. That shop has the blue stripe too, and heart tag! I added some orange Chunky Thread trim, and I'm excited to make some sort of silly bag or hot pads to send to my sisters and nieces. They will appreciate it :) Never forget that at the Santa Cruz Bolivia zoo they have baby capybaras running around the walkways. Core memory!

You'll notice I finally have a new headshot to use for publications, yay! My other friend and neighbor Ashley Gilbert took some updated family pictures too. Can you believe these big boys?? We are on day 2 of summer break and learning magic tricks and eating way too many Eggo waffles, which gives me the ick but also I can't make all their food in the summer!

Lastly I wanted to share these delicious fluffy hollyhocks. I can't believe the color! We've had red, light pink, and bright pink before, but never yellow! Many of you were excited about it too, so I wanted to let you know I'm happy to share the seeds when it's time. If I run out, I'll take them in order and may have to cut it off.

I love to end with a recipe we've enjoyed recently, and this time it's Chickpea Curry from Pinch of Yum. This was such an easy fast dinner, with mostly pantry items on hand. As for treats, we tried Cake by Courtney Blox Bars, and it was so over the top, in the very best way. My husband said it was his favorite dessert of all time, which I knew would be the case since he is a serious PB/chocolate guy. The extra effort is worth it.

Love at Home fabric bundle, and hot pads!

Hi! Happy almost spring to my Northern Hemisphere friends! Today I'm introducing my Love at Home bundle, which will be for sale this Monday, 3/17 at 9AM PST. St. Patrick's Day :)

The bundle has strawberries, hearts, flowers, precious quotes about home, birds, and the cutest little houses.

I read once in color psychology that red and yellow are often used in restaurant decor and marketing because they can make you hungry! Then I realized if you add the mint to the red and yellow, you've got fries, ketchup, and a shamrock shake :) I just felt like this bundle belonged in the the kitchen, so I took a morning and made some new hot pads that I'm very excited to use. For most of them I didn't follow a pattern, just used my Pinterest Board as inspiration and had fun with it. Each of them are double sided with different prints, so lots of versatile options for different times of year.

The strawberry hot pad was from a tutorial by Ellis and Higgs as a guest poster on Amy Smart's blog Diary of a Quilter. I printed it at 150% so it would be bigger than a coaster, and added leaves to both sides.

For this circular one I followed the same construction as the strawberry, and added crochet that I'd made years ago. I was sure glad I had saved them! I kept trying out different bowls from my kitchen as a template to see what size would fit perfectly inside the crochet trim that I already had finished. Turns out it was the 6" cake pan, plus a seam allowance. The Lori Holt Chunky Thread should work well for hot pads since it's 100% cotton, so it won't melt like some yards would. I've used this Chunky Thread for so many things, I really truly love it. It even holds up well in the wash! I found a shop that's having a sale on lots of their colors.

I whip stitched the trim to the edge of the fabric. This is the same kind of scallop trim I've used in pillows, there's a pattern for it in my shop.

This next one wasn't all fabric from the bundle, this was an orphan block that I decided to finish up while I was at it. Yes, I had the yellow pot in mind when I made it! Now I feel like I want a hot pad specifically designed for every dish I have, right?!

The yellow binding is from the new bundle, I'm not sure what the blue solid is, but the floral is from this Tilda line. I have the fall one, and the spring one, and I love them so much! I want to make a

If I had more time, I'd have loved to make the following ones as well! They definitely inspired some of mine.

Apple, Pear, Lemon, Peach Coasters by Minki Kim of Sewing Illustration

I found this darling image on Pinterest, I guess these used to be available through Stoney Clover Lane, but not anymore. I didn't feel up to tackling pleated ruffle trim this week, but maybe some day! So cute.

If I were making a quilt with this bundle, my first choice would be Happy Scallops by Emily Dennis of Quilty Love. I think it would be so cute! With 30 fat quarters, you could make the full quilt size, or two medium throws. It would be so fun to split the strips with a friend and make best friend quilts! I'd take out the 2 blue prints and use a light blue solid for background fabric, like Moda Bella Mist. White would also be darling. Don't forget I have a super helpful post about different whites and background fabrics if you need help choosing.

Whenever we have a bundle that has really high contrast in values, i.e. really dark darks and really light lights, I have two strong recommendations always, and the first is a Scrappy Trip! In this case you could either alternate light and dark for a checkerboard effect, or you could align your darks and lights in a strong diagonal for this effect:

Another great pattern for high contrast prints is one I suggested last time also, with the Valentine bundle. High Tide Remix would look so great in these colors.

Lastly, as far as quilts go, you can never go wrong with a Swoon 16 by Camille Roskelley. Take out the lightest prints and set them aside for a low volume project, and use your favorite 16 color prints. That would be darling! Valentine Fabric Bundle

Happy almost month of love! We've practically made it through January, and now we get to do pink and red, yesssss!!! I'm delighted to introduce my newest Valentine Bundle. They will be live this Saturday, 2/1/25 at 10 AM PST!

You can hop right to the listings to preview the cuts and prices. I'm trying something new this time- because some of the bolts aren't 15 yds, I have 2 lower priced bundles with less prints. The prints that are missing are all basics that are easily replaceable, and always in print, so all of the novelty Valentine prints are still included, making it a great option if you want to lower the cost. I wish I could have added F8s or other small cuts, but those require additional sorting and time, and I simply can't pull it off this week. Next time!

All bundles can ship to US, CAN, AUS, and UK, with the exception of half yard bundles, those were too heavy.

Number one question is always- what to make with it? I know exactly what I would make this time if I had a magic free weekend to do so- I'd do High Tide Remix. I just think that would be so fun in all red and pink! A delightful modern twist with these cutesy little prints.

I'd also love to make some ruffly pillows or hot pads. Maybe I'll get to that, fingers crossed.

I also really love this new-to-me Heart Gems by Emily Dennis, I think this is such a darling pattern. I love the way she did the simplified version here, with the woven and dark background. Beautiful! We can go ahead and call Emily the Queen of Hearts though, because all of her heart quilts are amazing! Seriously, you're sure to find something you love on her page.

I have made Emily's Quilty Hearts pattern before, and I really enjoyed that. The blocks are crazy easy to make, and then the sashing takes a bit of doing, but it's really not too bad.

There's a Free Heart Block pattern on my blog if you're wanting to make a mini quilt or pillow. I gave this one to a friend, but we have one just like it on our wall with everyone's name embroidered on it.

This is my Where Love Is quilt on grey crossweave.

One of my favorite heart quilts is I Heart You by Then Came June and Pen and Paper Patterns. I did this one in a sparkle background that I can no longer remember, sorry!

Here are some ideas I came up with for heart quilts, though I don't have patterns for any of them, yet.

Last is my Where Love Is 2. This is one of my favorite quilts of all time, and it would be so cute in this bundle! You might need to throw in a few solids. This Etsy shop has Riley Red, Frosting, and Sugar Pink, which would be my suggestions.

Felicity Pattern release- precut quilt

This new quilt pattern Felicity has been such a long time coming and I'm thrilled to finally officially share it with you. Felicity, which means intense happiness, is a precut friendly quilt pattern with a clever, easy strip piecing method for quick sashing. It has a look of a granny square- without the fabric waste or bias edges. It also has a fun Irish chain motif that connects all the blocks, and allows for a lot of different looks!

I've never made more than one sample for a pattern release, and this time I have 3, plus one in the making. (I did get help with the blocks on one, full disclosure!) I just really love the simplicity of simple squares, the vintage vibe, the versatility and endless possibilities!

This one is from a fabric pull I've been hanging onto for years, and was the prototype for the pattern. I added Moda Ruby Ice accent chain, and hot pink Swiss Dots background. The quilting was done by Emilee Hathaway of Paisley, Prints, and Polka Dots. I added a simple solid pink binding, and a backing that matches the chain, and I am all heart eyes for this quilt.

There's an option in the pattern to use a Layer Cake for the granny squares in a scrappy way. You eliminate some of the yardage, and use just one Layer Cake. These three are in Sunnyside by Camille Roskelley.

These next ones are Strawberry Lemonade by Sherri and Chelsi for Moda, with Kona Mint and Riley Blake Riley White as an accent or background. I loved this version so much that I started one myself.

One really sweet thing that happened during the making of this pattern was that weeks into its design, my sister Olivia had a baby girl, and she hadn't told us what the name would be. I hadn't talked to my family about this new pattern that I'd decided to name Felicity. Imagine my delight when she announced that the baby's name was- Jane Felicity! OF COURSE she had to have her own version.

I love how scrappy and vintage feeling this one turned out. I quilted it at home with the squiggle stitch on my Husqvarna, and added some white accent big stitch quilting.

I love this pattern so very much. It feels like years of honing in on what I love about a quilt, both the making of, and the final look. My editor Jessica at Blue Sky Crafter did an amazing job helping me come of up ways to make it super efficient and easy to understand. She's the best!

Garden of Quilts 2024

I'm happy to share that I will be teaching at Garden of Quilts this September 11-14 in Lehi, Utah. I've been to this event twice before and it is always a wonderful few days full of quilts, friends, and fun! Here are the three classes I'll be teaching. I don't plan to be a part of any other events, but I do hope to see you all in the gardens! I think I'll also purchase a ticket to the tea party :) All of the events and classes opened for registration today, and I've provided links to mine.

Before we dive into classes, one important note/change this year is that Garden of Quilts will not be providing kits on site. That means you can bring your own, or purchase one from the teacher ahead of time and have it shipped to you. I'll provide details on each class regarding whether or not I'm providing kits. Another important note is that the quilts are only on display in the gardens on Friday and Saturday! Ok on to the classes.

Wednesday 2PM to 5PM- Baby Basket

This is a fast, relatively east quilt, perfect for the advanced beginner. A confident sewist could finish this quilt top during class time no problem. For the more tentative, I'm there to help you conquer strip piecing, blocks on point, and borders. This makes a fantastic baby gift and works well in just about any fabric line. Here are a few I've made over the years.

I don't plan on providing any kits for this one. You only need half of a Jelly Roll or Rolie Polie for the prints. You can find the fabric requirements and pattern for this one here- Baby Basket Quilt. I'd recommend a fabric line that doesn't have a lot of low volume prints. Or you can cut your own! It's just 18 2.5" strips.

I have to show you the back of this quilt since many people love it more than the front, haha! I used the leftover cutoff scraps, as well as two of the low volume prints I omitted, to make a pieced backing. It's very sweet.

Here's one I made as a gift for a friend's baby. The pattern lends itself well to any kind of a color palette.

Thursday 2PM to 5PM- Scrappy Trip Party

This is going to be a choose-your-own-adventure kind of a deal where whatever Scrappy Trip you're dreaming up, I'm there to help you start it. I'll show you the method used to make the blocks, no matter the look you're going for, whether that be accent lines, checkerboard style, background colors, rainbow, you name it! I'm very passionate about this pattern and I can't wait to see what you'll make! You can gather inspiration for your own version at #wwscrappytrip on IG. I'm putting together a document that has all the different fabric requirements for different versions. Here are some of the options.

Two Jelly Rolls in the simplest way to go. You can do one print and one white (or background of your choice) for a checkerboard effect. Or, you can use two Jelly Rolls of prints, doubling up on the same fabric line, or choose two coordinating fabric line. Using two lines by the same designer is a great option.

You can make things more complicated for yourself by adding an accent diagonal. It's not too bad, I promise! On this version, I did a Bee Lori Jelly Roll with yellow background yardage, and a white accent line.

I will be selling some kits for this which will be ready for purchase in May. It's a checkerboard style with all Ruby Star prints, and either a black dot on white background, or plain white. It's very cute! You can also make this quilt with fat quarters and scraps, as long as your 2.5" strips are at least 20" long.

Friday 2PM to 5PM- Crochet Scallop Trim Pillow

Here we'll go over the steps to creating a darling little length of scallop crochet stitches, and then how to sew them into a pillow! I've already sold two rounds of kits for this- Valentine and Easter themed. I may have more spring kits in a week or two, we'll see how I end up with supplies after shipping the last round. The pattern for this one will be emailed to everyone who registers. I will have helpers with me there who know how to crochet this stitch so I feel confident we will be able to get everyone going on this.

I know it can be tricky to arrange travel to Utah for some of us, but this is a bucket list event for quilters for sure. I hope to support it many more times over the years, there's something so magical about the quilts in the gardens and the camaraderie of being with fellow quilt lovers. Hope to see you there!

Pastel Plaid bundle for Easter

Welcome back! I'm excited to talk about this new bundle today and all the fun things we could make with it. Bundles will be up tomorrow, Saturday 24th at 9AM PST. There will be fat quarters, half yards, and quarter yards. See you there!

My first thought was Mariposas- my butterfly pattern. I've mocked it up here with a super pale yellow, almost cream background, and a medium grey body fabric.

I also think it would be really great to just do simple half square triangles. If you buy the quarter yard bundle and cut 20 of the prints into (5) 8.5" squares, you'll get 10 HSTs from each print for an 8 x 10 grid quilt that measures 64" x 80". It would be pretty against a lightest pink, purple, or blue.

I never would have thought to do Chamomile with darker prints, but many of you have done so, especially for themed holiday quilts, and I love them! This Chamomile mockup in Pastel Plaids is probably my favorite of the bunch, I'd love to have it as an Easter quilt!

There are quite a few Quilty Love (by Emily Dennis) patterns that would work well with this bundle. In fact, her Classic Stars pattern sample is made up in flannel plaids. Choose a strong accent color, or white, for the stars or hearts and these cute ginghams would be a darling patchwork background.

I'd love to make a picnic quilt or a baby gift for someone with just simple squares! So much of this fabric bundle reminds me of my own 80s childhood, in fact my official baby blanket that my aunt made me was a smaller pink gingham almost exactly like the one included! This would be a great option for hiding stains and being super durable. I'd even love to tie it with yarn to make it very retro. This one is mocked up in 4" squares.

Kitchen Table Quilting (Erica) also has a lot of great patterns that would work well for this like the Tessa, Olivia, Hazel, or Harper.

You could also make Star Kisses! That's never a bad choice when you have fat quarters and you want something pretty easy. The pattern is written for 24 fat eighths, or 12 fat quarters. Since there are 21 prints in this bundle you'd use 2 of them twice and the rest only once, so it would be on the scrappier side, which is always my preference!

Lastly, I think any kind of equilateral triangle quilt would complement and contrast the grid of these fabrics really nicely. Pair them with low volumes like Red Pepper Quilts did here, or just white, and you'd have a real winner!

2024 Quilty Plans

Hello and Happy New Year!

Since the kids have been back to school I've spent many hours getting ready for quilty things that are happening this year. I thought I would share some of those with you so we can be excited together!

First of all, the upcoming new Felicity pattern is underway! The pattern will be finished soon, the kits are 90% ready, and I've got someone sewing one of the samples for me. I'm shooting for mid-February on that one. The 1930s prints for that are used as the rainbow prints are so dang cute, and it comes in two accent color ways- pink and blue.

I've ordered a custom grouping of Ruby Star fabrics in a bright, warm rainbow which I plan to sell in different cuts that people can use as they like, and those who purchase the 24 FQs will be able to make this Scrappy Trip quilt with me. No dates on a sew along yet, as some of the fabric here but some is backordered. I'll keep you updated! Hopefully around March.

I have my eye on a grouping of scrappy pastel ginghams and plaids that I want to use for my Mariposa pattern, which will be getting a reworking this year with expanded instructions. An Easter time project if all goes well!

My kids will have a normal summer since we switched schools and have a traditional schedule now. I won't have any projects at that time, ha! We hope to fit in two big camp trips- one to the beach and one to the mountains.

I plan to attend Garden of Quilts in Utah this September 11-15. Proposals for classes are still in motion, but I'm submitting some things that I've gotten many requests for, and I'm very excited to do that with you! Here are few sneaky peeks of what I hope to teach there.

It's a wonderful event that I've attended twice before. I plan to stay longer this year and really enjoy the gardens and all of you! This year they will not be providing kits for classes, you can either create your own with the given requirements, or purchase one from the teacher of the class separately. I hope to provide different kinds of kits for each of my classes.

I know I've had this one on the list forever, and some of you have been waiting and waiting, but by golly I'm going to start the Jumping Jacks quilt for my music room this year. Of course I'll share some tips and tricks along the way. Here is the one I sent to my aunt, which will be very similar to mine.

Other than that, the camellias and amaryllis are in full glory over here, and the kids are all trying out for the Peter Pan musical and really hoping to get the parts they want! I hope your January is off to a good start wherever you are and whatever you're up to. I appreciate you stopping by today!

30s fabric fun

Greetings! Today is a great day for a new bundle. This one is a combination of 1930s reproduction prints, some calicos, and other tiny florals and basics that create a perfect soft rainbow. There are so many wonderful things you can make with it! Let's get into it. (Unless you just want to shop now!)

There are so many patterns I think would work well for this bundle, here are few I thought of. Let me know if you have other ideas!

The free pattern Maggie Pearl by Penelope Handmade would be a lovely match for this particular fabric.

A simple half square triangle quilt like this one by Beech Tree Lane is never a bad choice.

A Great Granny square quilt is one of my favorite things to make. This was my birthday bee quilt a few years ago, using the block tutorial and 2.5" sashing.

There's something so right about Dresden blocks and 30s fabric. Dresden Botanica by Missouri Star is a great one!

The above pinwheel Dresdens by Amy Smart would also be super cute! It's a tutorial. This is another cool Dresden tutorial from a trunk show she attended, looks like they followed this tutorial.

Mini Merry Go Round by Sandy Klop is a favorite of one of my best friends. She saw this one at Garden of Quilts last year, let me know if you know the maker! I'm not sure of the specific fabric requirements for this one, you'll have to do some sleuthing if you plan on making it and shop accordingly.

Lastly, I am still looking for a source on this photo, and I don't have a pattern for it specifically, but I thought it was wonderful inspiration for this bundle. I know it's a vintage quilt for sale, I'll cite the source if I'm able to find it. Please let me know if you know! It's a vintage quilt seller on IG.

I also think it would make a wonderful Scrappy Trip. Of course :)

While you can make anything you want with this very versatile bundle, the pattern I designed specifically for this bundle is called Felicity, which means intense happiness. I've felt so happy designing and making this quilt!

It's made for a Layer Cake or two Charm Packs, plus yardage of accent and background fabric. They should be ready mid-January. This is easily a top 3 favorite pattern ever for me, I love the simplicity, the look of granny squares without any weird trimming or bias, and the way each print gets to shine. It also has some sweet strip piecing for all the sashing, and nesting seams throughout, so it goes super quick!

There's a pink color way and a blue color way for the kits, each with red centers. I read in a 1982 quilting book that red centers were used in the middle of log cabin blocks to represent the chimney. When I shared that on Instagram, a few people shared that they had learned different meaning for the use of red, that is was the heart of the home, or the love found at home. I loved those definitions even more! I'm sure that all were true, depending on who you ask.

Little House in the Woods- new pattern and kits

I'm so excited to be releasing a new pattern with a kit this week! Little House in the Woods has been in the making for years, and I'm excited that you get to sew it now. Shop here for kits, patterns, and backings too. The final listings will be available tomorrow, August 11, at 9:00 AM PST.

The trees and house are made with fat eights, and then you need some scraps for the trunks, and yardage for the background. The finished quilt measures 57" x 70". I chopped the corners off mine since I'm still in my rounded corner era.

Since I pulled fabric for mine years ago, the kits I've put together have different prints. The background is exactly the same. I used some of the adorable new Riley Blake lines, mixed in basics. They are darling. I'm so excited for you to sew with them! Here are the prints in the kits:

Where I placed the Santa in my window (an out of print fabric), you can fussy cut from the prints above, use background, or simply use white. Or maybe you saved some of that Santa too! It was very popular when it came out and hard to find now. I think it's called Swell Christmas by Urban Chiks for Moda.

I had this one quilted in a variety of snowflakes and loops by Emilee and Paisley, Prints, and Polka Dots, she always does a great job!

I backed it with an older Bonnie and Camille print that I've been saving for just the perfect thing, and this was it :) The binding is also an older B&C print.

Tea Time fabric!

I'm thrilled to announce we are 48 hours away from a really exciting product release- a sweet curation of fabric called Tea Time.

This new bundle features soft pastels, florals of every kind, and some darling novelty prints with a nod to the UK- tea spoons, 101 Dalmation-esque pups, London landmarks, and of course Liberty florals! This is my first time featuring Liberty fabrics in a bundle, as well as the new-to-me Poppie Cotton prints, which are so dang cute!

My sister Vanessa is cutting and shipping this bundles and has been so gracious as to provide us with all the cut options- half yards, fat quarters, fat eights and quarter yards! So there's something for every project and budget. It's a very versatile fabric grouping, and I've come up with a few ideas of what to make with it. Some of these aren't official patterns, but free tutorials or ideas to get you started.

Simple Sawtooth Stars- If you made the 6" stars this would be a sweet baby quilt layout. 9" stars would be a twin size, and 12" stars would be 96" x 108"!

Gingham Windows by Flamingo Toes uses 10" squares, so you'd have extra pieces to make something else too.

Star Kisses uses fat quarters and would be just the perfect amount when you take out a few of the low volumes.

Scrappy Trip is always a good choice! I made mine with all prints but it would be darling with contrasting white as well. You can use any size bundle for this one.

I would love to make a Jumping Jacks Union Jack quilt in this layout. The prints that barely show would be the stripes. It would be so cute!

It would also look great in High Tide Remix, or any version of the Swoon pattern! Happy to provide coordinating solids if needed. I've been matching it to whites this week and it works well with either a bright or a creamy white.

Ideas for New Projects

Today I wanted to share a few new fabrics, kits, and patterns that I've seen lately and really loved.

I could not believe my eyes when I saw this Tilda Buttermilk Basics Quilt Kit. I love the sweet simplicity of the design, adore the colors, and the blocks are all snowballs, so it would be super easy to sew. I may have to purchase one by the end of the day!

I was really excited to see that Erica at Kitchen Table Quilting has a new free pattern out for a Rainbow Mini Plaidish Quilt, so I designed a pastel bundle and ordered it right away. I hope to have bright and muted version available later as well, but probably not in time for her sew along. The colors are tricky to get right! Preorders are already up for the pastel version and they should ship by the end of the month. I will of course post pictures of the fabric as well when it arrives. You can preorder a kit here.

I recently discovered a new-to-me designer (with a really great name)- Allison Ramsing :) I especially loved her Joyful Stripes pattern, it can be used with nearly any cut of fabric and has multiple sizes so it's incredibly versatile. I think it would be cute in rainbow solids too, or scraps of course!

I'm on the home stretch with my new pattern Little House in the Woods. I should have a release date in the next week or two. There will be PDF and paper copies, as well as kits that look like the cover! I don't quite have the preorders ready for that one, but I'm close. I'm nearly done piecing mine and just last night I put a Santa (long kept and not in the kit, sorry!) in the window of the house. So cute!

I loved this new line Holiday Cheer by My Mind's Eye so much that I designed an additional kit with it, using a pattern by Flamingo Toes that I've always loved. Preorders for this Gingham Windows Christmas version are already up!

That's a lot of digital mockups for one day, hopefully I'll have fabric here really soon to show you. It's all so cute and I'm grateful that I decluttered my house and my sewing room and made space for all this new creativity in my brain and my daily schedule! This is going to be fun :)

Spring Sew Along- Jane's Ladder

I'm feeling excited to create with you all! For the next Woodberry Way sew along we will be making Jane's Ladder, a free pattern I did for the Moda Bake Shop several years ago.

The pattern has instructions for 2 sizes- crib size (shown above), and throw size (64" x 80"). I'll be making the bigger size this time, in the same fabric with the newer lines mixed in, just like I showed in the pattern post. It's a super easy sew, and I'm excited to do something fast and simple.

Here's the schedule-

March 6: Pick fabric (it's precuts, but you can use scraps or yardage if you want!)

March 13: Sew half the blocks

March 20: Sew the other half of the blocks

March 27: Assemble quilt top

April 3: final winner announced

At the start of each week I'll post the goal, share some tips and tricks, and announce a winner from the week before. Prizes will all come from my house this time, so there will be paper patterns, books, bundles, and fun notions. You can enter to win each week by posting your progress on Instagram with a @woodberry_way tag so I can see it, and the hashtag #janesladderquilt. I will sort the hashtag by recent posts and choose from the appropriate week. Probably Jake will choose so there's no bias!

This blog post is going to count for Monday so let's talk about fabric selection! You'll use 2 Charm Packs for the smaller version, or a Layer Cake for the throw size (or 4 Charm Packs like I'm doing). You can use the same line of fabric for the whole thing, or mix and match! Combining two lines from the same designer in a similar colorway is always a great choice, and will give you a scrappy but cohesive quilt.

Keep in mind that if you want each block to have all the same fabric like in this sample, you'll need matching charm packs, so 2 of the same for the smaller one, and 2 pairs for the bigger one.

For example, you could do:

Good Life + One Fine Day

Country Rose + Love Note

Curio + Elixir

You get the idea! If you want me to find more good combos from designers let me know! I love nothing more than fabric shopping :) It doesn't matter if you use Moda Charm Packs, or Riley Blake 5" stackers, or even cut 5" squares from your stash or scrap bin. I'll have some tips for those pesky pinked edges on precuts though.

Fabric Requirements:

Crib size- 2 Charm Packs (matching, if you want same prints within blocks like the sample), and 1 2/3 yds background fabric.

Throw size- 1 Layer Cake or 4 Charm Packs (pairs of Charm packs if you want same prints in blocks like the sample), and 3 1/2 yds background fabric.

Liberty of London Union Jack quilt

Today is a red letter day as I've mailed off the last of the "Leavitt quilts", which are the Union Jack quilts I've been making each year for my mom and her 7 siblings. This is the 8th and final quilt and it feels great to have it sent off! You can visit #leavittquilts on IG to see the other 7, which date back to 2014!

The pattern is Jumping Jacks by Fig Tree and Co. It is traditionally pieced and not too tricky. The first year I made it I was still quite a beginner, and the trimming step took some getting used to, but it's easy now.

The fabric I used was largely a bundle by Maker Valley, which unfortunately sold out last year. The blues are all from the Carnaby Collection by Liberty of London, so you could start there and add your own pinks and reds. You need FQs for the main prints and small amounts of yardage for the stripes. I mixed in a few of my own, mostly from Bonnie and Camille and Lori Holt.

One fun thing about this year's quilt is that it was the first time I used different low volume prints for the white parts of every block, as well as a printed sashing. It was super scrappy!

The tags shown here are Tasha Noel quilt labels for Riley Blake. I have the older version, but the new version is just as cute! The bottom label I had made by Wunderlabel, I've used them for years and have a few different colors.

This one was beautifully quilted by Emilee Hathaway of Paisley, Prints, and Polka Dots. She chose the design so you'll have to ask her what it's called!

The backing is a simple Navy Swiss Dot, and the binding seems to me like it's an American Jane print, though I'm not exactly sure- it came with the Maker Valley kit.

I will miss seeing this one around my sewing room, but I'm so happy to have it checked off and hopefully it is used and loved for years to come! Now I feel like I need to make quilts for my Hawkins aunts (another 8, haha). If you're one of those and you're seeing this, let me know in the comments which patterns you would like!

Fat Quarter Patterns for Soft Autumn

Here are my top ten pattern suggestions for my upcoming Soft Autumn bundle, in order of what I'd most like to make! I made sure they are fat quarter friendly, so the hardest part will be picking which prints to use :)

1. Swoon Sixteen by Thimble Blossoms- I'd do Kona Sea Foam, Parchment, or Shell for the Sashing. You'll have to omit some of the FQs from the bundle, I recommend taking the lighter ones out. You can always use more prints than 16, just split up the cutting! The more the merrier I say.

2. Fall Leaves by Cluck Cluck Sew in just the Topaz and Sunstone color ways. Amazing!

3. Star Pop 2 Emily Dennis. I so want to make this!

4. Cheese Platter from Stash Busting Weekend Quilts also in one or two colorways.

5. The Penny Quilt by Kitchen Table Quilting

6. Or Violet, or Hazel, or Ivory from Erica. They are all FQ friendly and amazing! Here's the Taylor pattern, which would be great with these fabrics in color order.

7. Hexie Framed by Emily Dennis

8. High Tide Remix by me is a solid choice for FQs, it uses them up efficiently and is a fast finish.

9. Sweet Marie by me was the sample quilt for last year's fall bundle, really a great choice! Can't go wrong with Kona Lingerie for the sashing and Kitchen Window Woven (also in Lingerie color) for the corners. Kona Curry for cornerstones! Sooo pretty.

10. Scrappy Trip is a solid choice almost always, and would definitely work here.

One last thing I wanted to address was background fabric for this bundle:

Kona Parchment is the stone colored solid from the bundle, and would be a great background for the prints. It appears pretty dark in digital swatches but you can see in this photo how it relates to other colors, it's the top color. I think it would be pretty in the Fall Leaves pattern especially, or as the stems on a white background.

Another option is Kona Shell! (The bottom fabric.) You know I love a soft pink background.

If you're wanting a white background for Hexie Framed or Sweet Marie, Kona Snow is a classic creamy white, and Kona Bone is a true cream. Either one would work for this fabric, depending on your preference. The white in the wovens is going to match more with Snow, but the prints would be really lovely against Bone. You can see more examples of these two colors in my background fabric post.

If you're wanting a low volume background, or something with a subtle print, Rad Plaid is a brighter white with a really fun pattern. Daisy Days is a richer cream and would be lovely as well.

Hello friends! Is it fall where you live? My sister in North Carolina told me that the leaves are starting to turn there. We're still in the 100s, but that's normal for us until about Halloween. Our fall leaves come at Thanksgiving! That won't stop me from buying some pumpkins very soon though, ha!

I'm currently helping a friend plan for her first quilt, she's making Pumpkins by Cluck Cluck Sew. (I found that one on sale but if it sells out here's another.) Allison's patterns are well-written and simple to piece together, perfect for a beginner!

I also just wanted to share a small joyful find with you. Fall is baking season for me and recently I discovered the magical power of using tulip cupcake liners. They are a little more expensive than the regular zig zaggy ones, but the results are worth it! The muffins come out taller and puffier, and the kids loved using the fancy liners. Mariposas- a new Butterfly quilt pattern

Today is a big day in these parts! New pattern, new bundles, and kits too! So exciting.

The pattern is called Mariposas (butterflies in Spanish) and it's a fast and easy sew, made with fat quarters and a bit of yardage. The pattern has instructions for a straight-grid setting of the blocks, but you'll find instructions for off-set blocks in an upcoming blog post. I have kits for everything except the backing!

These two fabrics aren't a part of the kit, I just had to make a pillow so I could embroider the antennae! So cute!

I didn't originally plan on releasing a pattern with this bundle, but when I was trying to think of patterns that would complement these large-scale, gorgeous fabrics, I thought butterfly wings would be just the ticket. I'm grateful for testers who helped me get this one ship shape for you.

If you don't plan on making the butterfly quilt, I also have fat quarter and half yard bundles of just the beautiful, silky, floral Art Gallery prints. I love the vibrant colors and bold florals. They would be great for a Swoon quilt, or a High Tide Remix!

If you'll indulge me in a few personal stories today, I'll tell you why I named this one "Siena Spring".

When I was 12 or so my parents gave me a calendar for Christmas that was full of photos of Italy. Little did they know this would start a life-long obsession in my young heart. As soon as I got to college I enrolled in Italian classes and after 2 years I had the remarkable opportunity to go on a study abroad trip based in Siena, Italy. Located right in the middle of the country, Siena is one of the best preserved Medieval cities in Italy. I took language, history, and cooking classes at a small local university and worked (for free) as a waitress in an adorable family restaurant. The dad cooked, the mom managed, and the son was the main waiter. The town is as precious and charming as they come. What a dream!

The big church in Siena has pillars inside that are black and white striped, just like the binding on the Mariposa quilt. This is where I fell in love with red geraniums that are the specific shade of orangey-red in these fabric bundles too. On the weekends we'd travel to other cities and tour around. Probably my favorite part of the entire experience was the cooking class where we'd make 3 course meals from scratch and eat them all together in a room with an adjoining rooftop terrace, as the swallows swooped in and out of the sunset. You can't make this stuff up you guys, I get teary eyed when I talk about it out loud. I love that place!

Alright back to the matter at hand. I absolutely adore the luxurious black minky that I used to back my quilt, but I did find some other backing suggestions that I really like for this quilt too. It was a hard choice! The kids always want minky though :) My local quilt shop Cali Quilt Co. specializes in minky, they must have every imaginable color and texture! That's where I got this simple black one. Here are some more great options.

Old Made Wallflower in White would be a wonderful choice. You also couldn't go wrong with classic black Swiss Dots. If you can wait until October, this upcoming Ruby Star would be an amazing option:

Why hello! You've come on a great day!

I'm thrilled to have a new bundle ready- the original 14 color bright rainbow that I made a few years ago. There are kits and bundles in the shop today, and a new free pattern!

First up we've got the regular half yards, from which you can make 3 baby quilts or two throws if you're using your own sashing. If you need cute sashing with your solids, I've got kits for that.

I'm most excited to have a new free rainbow pattern, this time a throw size without sashing. Now there's a pattern for every combo/size imaginable :)

Tasha Noel Quilt Fair Pillows

You all know how much I love Tasha Noel fabric! It was my first fabric love. I was so thrilled when the Quilt Fair line was announced- it has some of my favorite colors, and the prints are so sweet and whimsical.

I chose to make 2 pillows with my bundle. I used the star cheater print to make this first pillow. I quilted a 1" grid on my Juki and then added hand quilting along the already-provided stitch lines! That was nice. A great way to start hand quilting if you're unsure about your stitch length/shape.

For the other pillow, I used Red Pepper Quilts Economy Square tutorial. The main print in the line is so perfect for fussy cutting the centers. I followed my tried and true zipper method to finish them off. You'll never have a smashed, sad pillow with this method! I also have a video step-by-step of this on IG highlights, and there are detailed instructions and diagrams in my book, which is on mega sale on Amazon- Welcome to Woodberry Way. Lots of ways to learn this zipper stuff!

If you're doing the big quilt tutorial, I recommend a wide backing rather than dealing with 7+ complicated yards of fabric. If you trim to 78" you need 2 1/2 yds of wideback, you'll need a little more if you keep your quilt wider towards a queen. Here are a few options that I really like.

I used a really cute white and aqua floral Bonnie and Camille wideback for mine, but I can't find that anywhere anymore unfortunately. Depending which version I decide to make next, I'd love to use the obmbre confetti!

This is such a great quilt for showcasing some fancy shmancy quilting. I went all out on the floral motif here, what fun!

Alright. The only iteration of the rainbow kits/tutorials I don't have yet is a baby size using the 9-color rainbows. So let's do it! There are a lot of rainbow babies out there, I know several myself, and I think the world could use a lot more of these rainbow baby quilts.

If you buy today's kit and want to make baby quilts instead of the twin size, you can make THREE crib sized quilts from the solids. There are enough of the dots to make 3 quilt tops, and have binding for one quilt!

It's super simple:

Instructions for 42" x 60" Crib Quilt

Cut each half yard into (3) 6" x WOF strips. Split them up into one of each color for three quilt tops.

For one quilt, cut (8) 1.5" x WOF strips of white (or dotted white).

Sew the white strips in between the colors and press toward the colors.

Trim the sides and quilt as desired, that's it! If it's easier for you, you can cut all the strips to exactly 42" and then sew them all together, that way you don't have to worry about squaring it up correctly in the end.

I really like using the same white that I used for the stripes as the binding. You can see how I did that on this one (and used the backing I told you about above). You would think it would be a terrible idea to use such a light binding and it would get really dirty, but I've done it a few times now and they've held up great!

For the record, I will be carrying the muted rainbow kit sometime in the first half of next year.

A few notes in case you missed my IG stories about these kits-

The pastels, as well as the brights, are different than the ones shown in the photos of quilts I've made. This is because many of the colors have been discontinued and those exact rainbows are no longer available. I do not feel like the new ones are any less wonderful, in fact I like the pastel one even a bit more! I will eventually stock a 14-color bright rainbow again too.

The pastel kits were previously Riley Blake Confetti Cottons, which I LOVE for their softness and feel. However, I've found that RB solids sometimes have a different sheen on the front than the back, making the color appear different, making it tricky to remember what side you should have facing forward! Plus, two of the original colors are no longer made, so to keep it simple and have more color options, I switched to Kona. Same with the brights, which were previously a mixture of several different manufacturers, none of which I have a wholesale account with, yet :)

All in all, I'm thrilled with the kits offered here today and don't feel like I've sacrificed anything with these changes.

LAST THING-

Since (hopefully) most of these solids won't be discontinued in the near future, I will be able to offer these kits again, unlike the print bundles I've been doing. So if it sells out and you really wanted one, never fear! It will come around again.

Hello again and Merry December!

I'm back with another bundle today, this time with a very subtle Christmas vibe- although you could really use it for anything! I've got FQ bundles and and couple of half yard bundles in my shop.

I was so excited to do Tasha Noel bundles this month, but then we got the sad news that it's going to ship several weeks late. So, I thought I'd put together something versatile and fun. These are mostly Lori Holt prints from many of her different lines, with one or two extras thrown in. And all in some of my very favorite colors!

I'll tell you what I'd make with this bundle :) First of all, Scrappy Trip! You could totally mimic the look of this one I started a few years ago:

I actually think I'd like a Scrappy Trip in this new bundle even better, to be honest with you!

It would also work well for Star Kisses, First Snow, or......I'm always going to say it- Swoon!

I also think it would be fantastic in one of Pen and Paper Patterns' mod Christmas patterns like Mod Triangles or Holly Jolly. It actually has some of the same prints as the Mod Triangles quilt I made a few years ago (which had very controversial Christmas colors, ha!)

I think it also goes without saying that you could make any one of the hundreds of amazing patterns by Lori Holt herself, starting with the amazing Vintage Christmas book!

I hope you guys have fun with this bundle, can't wait to see what people make! I'm still waiting on some lost packages so I can complete my solid rainbow kits, and then after that hopefully Tasha's long-awaited Quilt Market will finally be here!

Lastly, I just wanted to share that today marks 28 years since I was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints- a day I will always be grateful for! And, my cutie niece Eliana just so happens to be getting baptized today, so that makes it extra special. To celebrate I watched this year's Christmas concert, and it was marvelous.
