I think it’s from the early 70’s and believe it or not there are a couple of designs in there that wouldn’t look too out of place today! Now I just need to work out which modern yarn I can substitute to knit those trousers…….

Getting Ready for A/W 2011

We recently attended the UK Hand Knitting Association Knit Show 2011 at Stoneleigh Park.

We saw the forthcoming A/W collections from Sirdar, Sublime, Debbie Bliss and King Cole to name but a few.

A new mega chunky yarn from Sirdar called Big Bamboo which is knitted on 10mm needles. It’s chunky yet very light!

A self striping chunky yarn from Debbie Bliss called Riva. I love this dress and I’d really like to try this yarn.

A double knit yarn from King Cole called Galaxy which is threaded with tiny sequins – perfect for the party season!

Sirdar / Sublime Autumn 2010 Preview Part 2

After viewing all of the new Sublime items, it was time to look at the new Sirdar items.

There were four exciting new yarns to see from Sirdar – Connemara, Snowdrops, Squiggle and Indie as well as lots of new shades, books and patterns in current yarns.

The Crofter DK and Chunky ranges have four new shades each, as well as some more new designs.

Next was the first of the new yarns - Connemara, a wool rich chunky yarn, inspired by the romantic west coast of Ireland. This will be available in 6 hushed shades with misty blues, gentle heathers and natural smoky browns – a beautiful palette of tweedy colours for men, women and girls.

Next was Baby Snowball and another new yarn - Baby Snowdrops Chunky, a soft and cosy baby yarn scattered with tiny white ‘snowdrops’, coming a range of shades including snow white, cosy cream, biscuit and four baby pastels pink, lilac, mint and blue.

Snuggly Baby Crofter sees three new shades added to it’s range, a soft peach/pink mix, a blue brown mix and a green mix. A new book accompanies the new shades with some fantastic designs.

The ever popular Snuggly DK range sees four new shades and a new book with designs featuring lots of embroidered details.

Snuggly Baby Bamboo DK also adds four new autumnal shades as well as a new book.

There are also a number of new shades for Escape DK and Chunky, as well as a number of new designs. The design shown below really caught our eye.

The third new yarn for Sirdar launched at the show is Squiggle Super Chunky, a fabulously colourful yarn that comes in a gorgeous range of jolly colour twist shades. The scrummy pink, blue, apple and orange mix shades create a cheery home-made style. Accompanied by a fantastic book of 17 designs, all quick to knit and great for beginners too!

Finally, the fourth yarn launched by Sirdar is Indie, a gorgeous light and lofty yarn with a riot of magnificent colours in every ball, with a fabulous colour effect that appears as you knit.

As you can see, lots coming for the new season. Question is, what will you want to knit first?

Sirdar / Sublime Autumn 2010 Preview Part 1

Yesterday we had the opportunity to visit the UK Hand knitting Association’s trade show where the major yarn companies were showing off their new yarns and patterns for the coming Autumn / Winter Season.

We wanted to share with you some of the things we saw on the Sirdar and Sublime stands to give you an idea of what will be in stock in the coming months.

The overall trend we saw was lots of chunky and super chunky yarns, so it’s time to break out the large needles.

First, we looked at Sublime. Sublime are only bringing one new yarn out – Chunky Merino Tweed, an 80% wool chunky yarn with subtle flecking in yarn to give a fantastic effect. Feels lovely too! This will be accompanied by a new pattern book containing the designs seen in the images below.

Next is new shades of Baby Cashmere Merino Silk Baby 4ply and book.

Followed by new shades and books for Extra Fine Merino DK and Cashmere Merino DK.

Finally new shades and some great designs in Baby Cashmere Merino Silk DK.

Sirdar Baby Snowball – new yarn

Sirdar Baby Snowball is the softest, cuddliest yarn imaginable - and creates the cutest baby hand knits for girls and boys.

The yarn has lots of soft and cozy 'snowballs' and is just so quick and easy to knit. It comes the gentlest shades of Ice cream and snow white - or gently frosted colours with pretty pink, trendy lilac, blue or green.

New from Debbie Bliss – Eco Baby

Debbie Bliss has brought out a new yarn specifically for babies and young children – Eco Baby which is a 100% Organic Cotton yarn.

A 50g ball of Eco Baby has 125m per ball and knits 25 stitches to 34 rows on a 10cm tension square. This is exactly the same as Debbie’s other best selling baby yarn, Baby Cashmerino, which means you could knit any of the classic patterns from Baby Cashmerino Book 1, Book 2 and Book 3 but more suitable for summer wear.

There are 16 shades that are accompanied by a new book – Eco Baby.

Sirdar have brought out four new shades of their most popular baby DK range, Snuggly DK. The four new shades – 412 Soldier Blue, 413 Engine Red, 414 Elf and 415 Pixie, are accompanied by a new book – 369 Little Brits in Spiffing Knits, which has 16 patterns for babies and children up to 7. The book is also available a series of loose patterns – 1894, 1895, 1896, 1897, 1898 and 1899.
