Prodigy to release autobiography written in prison

MOB Deep’s Prodigy still might be in jail but he gets the coveted internet priviledges from time to time and recently dropped the news in his blog that he will be releasing an autobiography the same time he gets out of prison. Prodigy stated the following about his book:

“I HAVE AN AUTOBIOGRAPHY COMING OUT THE SAME TIME THAT I GET OUT AND I DECIDED TO SAVE MY BEST KNOWLEDGE AND INFORMATION FOR MY BOOK. IF I LET IT ALL LOOSE IN THESE BLOGS THEN IT WOULD LEAVE LITTLE TO NOTHING FOR MY BOOK TO REVEAL.

“I CAN GUARANTEE THAT MY AUTOBIOGRAPHY WILL BE RELEVENT 100 YEARS FROM NOW CAUSE ITS NOT SOME BULLSHIT WRITTEN JUST TO SOUND GOOD. PEOPLE WILL LEARN FROM MY BOOK AND CAN EVEN SHARE THE INFORMATION WITH THEIR CHILDREN. WHEN YOU ARE DEALING WITH THE SOUL AND WELL BEING OF YOU AND YOUR CHILDREN, YOU BETTER BELIEVE YOU GOTTA DEAL WITH REALITY AND PURE, GOOD, CLEAN INFORMATION THAT IS ACCURATE.“

Prodigy is currently serving a three and a half year sentence so don’t hold your breath waiting this book though and I hope it’s not written in all caps.

Eve x Whip It. No it’s not a movie starring Devo and Eve. The Pitbull in a Skirt (is she even called that anymore) has a nice role in the upcoming movie Whip It which is directed and stars Drew Barrymore and Ellen Page (Juno). Movie is about roller derby girls who kick ass on skates. Movie hits theaters October 9th.

Pharrell x Despicable Me. Pharrell is getting paid a handsome fee from Universal Pictures for creating and performing the title track to the upcoming 3-D animated movie Despicable Me. The film has a Pixar feel to it and Universal is betting big that it delivers like a Pixar flick as well. Steve Carrel plays the title character Gru who likes to steal big things like the Egyptian Pyramids and next the moon. But then Kid Cudi tells him not to steal the moon….ok ok….three little girls convince him not to. The end.

Pharrell continues to make more moves into film score and soundtrack work. He is still tagged as exec producer on the live-action Voltron film where he will also score the music with the classic Neptunes sound. Check the trailer to Despicable Me here with the title track song over at Nah Right.

Trick Daddy x Nann. It’s pretty clear now that the hot new business venture is in publishing…not music publishing….but book publishing in the form of autobiographies and most recently graphic novels. Just this week Jay-Z, Q-Tip, Ghostface Killah and now Trick Daddy have announced new book deals.

In the upcoming graphic novel called “Nann,” Trick Daddy plays a superhero bent on defending the hood from social ills, and fighting off the fraudulent rappers trying to take over the music industry. No word yet on who will be publishing the graphic novel or release date.

Q-Tip to release new book called “Industry Rules”

Q-Tip x Ballentine Books. All of a sudden there are a flurry of hip-hop artist x book deals. Here is another. Q-Tip, the ATCQ front man will be releasing his first book under Ballentine Books called “Industry Rules.” In the book Q-Tip will discuss everything from the entertainment business, fashion and love. According to AHH, the book’s concept will expand upon the classic Q-Tip line from “Check the Rhime,” in which he states: “Industry rule #4080/Record company people are shady.”

“It was important to me to write a book because on the whole, I feel we could all be more literate, and as an artist, I’m always looking for ways to do something cool, different, and both light and introspective at the same time,” Q-Tip said in a statement. “With so many influences, like Duke Ellington’s writing, or the music played by radio DJs in the 70’s, or just what you see hanging out on Linden Blvd., there’s a lot to say, and I look forward to reaching a bunch of colorful dudes and gals with the project.”

The book will release in conjunction with ATCQ’s 20th Anniversary of their first album sometime later this year. Maybe it should come out the same day as Jay-Z’s first book “Decoded.” It can be a book war throw down at Barnes & Nobel.

DJ Paul and Juicy J hit mainstream with their Academy Award success from Hustle and Flow followed by their MTV show “Adventures in Hollyhood.” Now the two take it to a new level with the introduction of their newest venture, a cooking show called “Cookin’ Aint Easy” (say it with that Southern twang).

Every week on the show, the two will host a dinner party for friends, fans and celebrity guests and prior to the arrival of the guests, the show will also follow them as they prepare the meal to be served, giving viewers the opportunity to actually learn the week’s recipes. Reality TV producer Adam Briles, who is exec producer on the show states:

“It is a completely fresh approach to a cooking show. You get much of the same take-away information that viewers expect from the genre, but it is served up in such a unique, relatable and funny way that it is just flat out entertaining.”

No word yet on what networks are looking at the show but we assume the standard MTV, E!, BET, etc. Stay tuned and get ready to cook with DJ Paul and Juicy J.

50 Cent removes “gangster” tattoos to get more movie roles

In an effort to make himself more “accessible” to the major film producers and movie studios here in Hollywood, we have just learned that 50 Cent has removed some of his more iconic tattoos. It’s no secret 50 has ramped up his film career (see Diddy career path) as his music side dwindles down and the tattoo removals are just the beginning of a 50 Cent the rapper to Curtis Jackson the actor rebranding effort. 50 recently stated:

“I took some of the tattoos off because on the movie set, if we got a six o’clock call time, I have to be there two o’clock the night before. I gotta go through four hours of make up before we go ahead and play the role. So, I just took it off my arm. My right arm.”

Although the arm tats will be gone, 50 is not completley doing away with his old image as his signature “50 Cent” and “Southside” tattoos on his back will stay…for now.
