Beyonce's new L'oreal ad facing criticism

Beyonce's new L'Oreal Cosmetics ad campaign has been getting some press and some heat for the obvious attempts to Michael Jackson-ize her face and hair in attempt to give her an overall lighter visual appearance. I know B has always been fairer skinned but this seems a bit too far.

Nelly in partnership with the Olympics' Team USA

Nelly has just recorded a new single called "Warrior" exclusively for Team USA and AT&T as part of the official Team USA Soundtrack. Nelly talked about his single and why he chose the name. "The track "Warrior", these reason I think that it plays a part in this is because of the intensity, and the Olympics is all about being that warrior, it's all about bringing that mentality to it, that kill or be killed mentality, even though it's friendly games and all that, but it's the biggest event for the world."

Hopefully the Team USA basketball team can show some of this warrior mentatily and win it all. As part of the promotion with Team USA and AT&T, Nelly's new song will be available for viewing and download at the AT&T site here. Other urban artists on the soundtrack include Queen Latifah and Chris Brown. Kick-off for this week's Summer Olympics in Beijing begins this Friday.

Dr. Dre to release Aftermath Cognac and Vodka

Interscope Records and alcoholic beverage company Drinks Americas formed a joint venture over a year ago with little results. However, Dr. Dre is about to change all that. In Drinks Americas' latest earning statements, they reveal that a Cognac called Aftermath Cognac, named after Dre's label, will be released in the next 60 days which will release with Dre's long awaited "Detox" album set for Nov/Dec. After the release of Aftermath Cognac, Drinks Americas will follow that up with a Dre promoted 80 proof vodka.

The Dre x Drinks Americas integrated marketing plan is expected to be modeled similar to the Nas x Fila partnership where Drinks America will promote their new Aftermath branded drinks and "Detox" at the same time. Dre then will support the drinks with promotional efforts, appearances and ads. This is just further evidence that even a bonafide superstar like Dre can use the help (i.e. money) that a consumer products company has but a record label does not. Via: Billboard

Mos Def designs tee for UNDRCRWN

Mos Def has designed a collection of limited apparel for streetwear brand UNDRCRWN based off his big band 26-instrument group called The Watermelon Syndicate which performed at Carnegie Hall. The tees are available in limited quantities through Karmaloop. Check out a close-up after the jump.

Xzibit takes boxing role for next movie

Although Xzibit's last movie X-Files: I Want to Believe did little in the theaters, he was still grateful for his acting opportunities. In his blog Xzibit states "Thanks for everyone who went to support The X Files: I Want to Believe. It had a modest opening but a good one. It was $20 million worldwide. Hey listen folks it wasn't The Dark Knight but it wasn't Meet Dave either.......can you dig it?"

Now that the movie is done, Alvin is on to his next movie role where he is a little more tight lipped to reveal the plot or name. He is currently in training for a potential movie role as a boxer which includes extensive training and a regimen of crunches, lifting and calisthenics that is "kicking my ass." Chris Brown forms partnership with New Era

Chris Brown and New Era have formed an official partnership where CB has designed a series of six limited edition caps that will retail for $35 to $40 starting on August 14th. Each model will be limited to roughly 5,000 caps and Brown will receive a royalty payment for each cap sold. Brown has designed ten caps in total but six will go to New Era while Brown will maintain the rights for the other four. This is the second branding partnership run that New Era has done with a celebrity. Spike Lee was the other as his caps ran for $60.

Brown continues to establish himself as a major brand name from his Interscope label, Chris Brown Entertainment to his recently launched marketing campaign with Wrigley's Doublemint Gum to his rising film career.

?uestlove talks details of his Nike partnership

Starring Queen Latifah, Alicia Keys and J-Hud. It's almost hard to recognize em. The Secret Life of Bees is a drama set in the Southern U.S. in the 1960s and centers on Caucasian teenager Lily Owens and her African-American friend Rosaleen who flee their hometown to escape their harsh upbringing and seek to uncover the mysteries of Lily's late mother. Along the way, they encounter three beekeeping sisters (two of which would be played by Keys and Latifah) who take the pair in to their South Carolina home. Movie comes out October 17th.

Clipse get support for Play Cloths clothing line

While Clipse is busy promoting their upcoming Re-Up Gang album due out August 5th, Malice and Pusha T have also slowly but surely been pushing their long delayed clothing line Play Cloths as well. Like many hip-hop star founded clothing lines, Play Cloths has been delayed multiple times and was originally announced back in 2007. However there has been some recent promotional activity including these recent pics of Lupe Fiasco and Shae of N.E.R.D. wearing the "official" Play Cloths tee. While Play Cloths is being endorsed by the urban music world there are still no details on an official availability date.

According to official Clipse statements, Play Cloths is stated as a "classic style specifically designed with a rare urban appeal designed for the 21st century style rebel. We blend traditional American style with the French Rivera and Monte Carlo uses of rich, vibrant primary colors to create collectible garments."

Now I have seen it all.To give Memphis Bleek his credit he is just "guest appearing" in this Garnier Fructis shampoo video/commercial and heck...everyone needs to get paid. The featured artists in this are the girl group Code Green who I have never heard of before. Bow Wow in "Entourage" sex scene w/ pornstar

Bow Wow recently told MTV again that he plans to record one more album and then will "retire" from the rap game to focus on acting. Bow Wow stated "I wanna be the next Will Smith. After the eighth album, I'm done. I already feel it. I love acting." Or maybe he loves the perks that come with it. Bow Wow will be guest starring in the next season of HBO's "Entourage" where he shot a sex scene with an unnamed pornstar. "It was with a porn star. I don't know her name," stated Bow Wow. "She probably watching this like, 'What?! I did a scene with him, and he doesn't remember my name?!' I was cool..."

Will anyone care that Bow Wow "retires" from rap? As cocky as he is these days Bow Wow does have a decent film resume and will star in the upcoming basketball film Hurricane Season with Lil Wayne will also be in the indie comedy Driving Lessons where he plays a thug.

I'm trying this new thing where I stop making fun of R&B singers with the first name Chris or the last name Brown. With that said, here is Chris' brand new Doublemint Gum commercial with music set to his latest single "Forever."
