Life Update 2016

I am currently working on a re-design with my good friend Anish Abraham! We will see the fruits of this at some time in the near future.

What has happened.

In July (2015) I accepted a position as a prn pharmacist at a hospital that I was previously a student at, here in the medical center- (God answers prayers)

Since that time-much of my time was spent really focusing at work and trying to get a full time position.

In November (2015)- I was hired on as a full time pharmacist with a combined position in outpatient and inpatient pharmacy (secret life goals :) )

In december (2015) I went to India for the wedding of my cousin Crystal- I went by myself for the first time-it was quite an interesting experience.

January-back to work, settling in and figuring things out.

A Day In the Life of a Housewife-well kinda

Today is a rainy day. It's been raining quite a bit in Houston actually. The past two weeks have been overcast!

I am on my second cup of hot coffee-normally around this time I am walking around with an iced coffee. But this morning I didn't finish my hot coffee and I didn't really eat breakfast so around two-I found myself hungry (after eating lunch around 12-1). I made myself a cup of oatmeal and some coffee. It seems to have done the trick!

Still looking for a job in Houston as a pharmacist-the market here is saturated and it is quite difficult to get a hospital job. On a bright note- I do feel very settled into my condo and am adapting to Houston life. I hope to have a routine down eventually.

Hopefully this time off will allow me to become reacquainted with my blog =)

Its been a minute, actually its been a few months- and I just wanted to fill whoever is still reading or watching my blogs in on what is happening in my life.

In may of 2014 I completed a lifelong dream and graduated Pharmacy school! Thanks for all of those readers who were present through the bumpy ride.

June of 2014- I started a residency (part of my dream)-Little did I know what I was signing up for. The hospital residency which I partook in was not the right for me and the ride was extremely rough.

September of 2014- Best friends wedding- MOH.

October of 2014- my good friend and roomie got married, I GOT ENGAGED and had an official engagement ceremony =),

November 2014- I resigned from my residency =(

December-March (2015)- Planned my wedding

March 7th 2015- The big day- I got married =)

Moved to Houston, and here I am =)

Today's sermon was centered on giving and immediate obedience to God

1) God intentionally puts his leaders in need to show his MIRACULOUS power
-Proverbs 3:27-28

2) God will lead us to instantly obey him from what we HAVE not what we LACK
-Psalm 145:4

3) When you obey God he will show you his GLORY
Phillipians 4:19

Bottom Line: We can never out give God. Trust him in our giving and he will always provide.

Notes: The pastor made an interesting analogy with the widows oil The flour represents our operating capitol and the oil represents our savings. If we trust in our giving we will never run out of our operating capitol or fall short in our savings (interesting way to look at it)

My Thoughts: Today's message reminded me of how faithful God is always.

I am absolutely EMBARRASSED by the neglect I have paid to my blog over the past semester. I want to apologize to my readers or what few of you I have left that try and check my blog and get frustrated at my lack of responsibility. It isn't that I stopped loving blogging it's that school took over my life--and I know this tends to happen a lot for me. My brain apparently is not good at multitasking in different dimensions. I can multitask properly in one dimension--meaning I can properly juggle multiple things relating to pharmacy at one time but I will not be able to let that touch my family stuff or church stuff or creative stuff--something will eventually give.

I want to fill you in on what has been going on at school:

-The semester started in August (things were trucking along swimmingly)
-In september I was elected President of an Organization (UH OH)
- I also had a committee to run for another organization (OH NO!)
-Classwork was not easy (whoever said psych was a piece of cake....PLEASE...there is no evidence for the usage of any medication as superior and efficacious to another...FAIL), Don't even get me started on Toxicology (I DON'T CARE that the water hemlock smells like carrots and is poisonous or that cyanide smells like bitter almonds)
-I took on an elective that allowed me to have direct patient care at a clinic and I had to see patients on my own (NERVE racking but rewarding)
-I finally got an IPHONE and I AM IN LOVE with it!!!
-I submitted a poster and presented at MIDYEAR (goal accomplished) in LAS VEGAS
-Winter break- Moses play (using musical interlude was a semi success)
- Spring semester has started =( - I am already behind on all of my organization stuff!

Hopefully I will be able to keep track of everything and focus a bit more on my blog. I will try and be more blog orientated.

Neons In fall

So I invested in a cute pair of colored pants at the beginning of the summer before my India Trip..when I came back to school I figured I could still where them as casual pants for a while...but I started to notice several people rocking the colored pants look with professional wear...and I feel as though this is a must. As an Aspiring microbiologist one of my favorite viruses EVER...is EBOLA. For those of you who know think this is a brand name for a fashion label here is a small quip from the CDC:

What is Ebola hemorrhagic fever? Ebola hemorrhagic fever (Ebola HF) is a severe, often-fatal disease in humans and nonhuman primates (monkeys, gorillas, and chimpanzees) that has appeared sporadically since its initial recognition in 1976. The disease is caused by infection with Ebola virus, named after a river in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly Zaire) in Africa, where it was first recognized. The virus is one of two members of a family of RNA viruses called the Filoviridae. There are five identified subtypes of Ebola virus. Four of the five have caused disease in humans: Ebola-Zaire, Ebola-Sudan, Ebola-Ivory Coast and Ebola-Bundibugyo. The fifth, Ebola-Reston, has caused disease in nonhuman primates, but not in humans.

How is Ebola virus spread?

Infections with Ebola virus are acute. There is no carrier state. Because the natural reservoir of the virus is unknown, the manner in which the virus first appears in a human at the start of an outbreak has not been determined. However, researchers have hypothesized that the first patient becomes infected through contact with an infected animal.

After the first case-patient in an outbreak setting is infected, the virus can be transmitted in several ways. People can be exposed to Ebola virus from direct contact with the blood and/or secretions of an infected person. Thus, the virus is often spread through families and friends because they come in close contact with such secretions when caring for infected persons. People can also be exposed to Ebola virus through contact with objects, such as needles, that have been contaminated with infected secretions.

Nosocomial transmission refers to the spread of a disease within a health-care setting, such as a clinic or hospital. It occurs frequently during Ebola HF outbreaks. It includes both types of transmission described above. In African health-care facilities, patients are often cared for without the use of a mask, gown, or gloves. Exposure to the virus has occurred when health care workers treated individuals with Ebola HF without wearing these types of protective clothing. In addition, when needles or syringes are used, they may not be of the disposable type, or may not have been sterilized, but only rinsed before reinsertion into multi-use vials of medicine. If needles or syringes become contaminated with virus and are then reused, numerous people can become infected.

I think I was in high school when I first heard about this virus and watched a video on how EBOLA Zaire was treated using the blood of those who had been infected and survived..so it was in some essence a vaccine. Of course there were several things that could go wrong with this for example if patients whose blood were used had aids ...potential transmission of that disease. I think I wanted to eventually work for the CDC and become one of those people who traveled to countries such as Zaire or the Congo and help control the disease epidemic.

So it would make sense that when i was browsing through Yahoo's homepage I found this news clip (because yahoo news is the most reliable news out there...):

Two Standard Deviations From The Mean:

I was asked to write a small article for a local church organization and I thought I would preview it here first.

Two Standard Deviations From the mean

Every year before the actual semester begins, my school offers (forces) a mandatory benchmark
over all the materials learned the year before. This is to ensure that you didn’t manage to forget
everything during those long summer months; hence eventually attempting to prepare us for the
board exams. The unique thing about this exam is that it is graded based on an average. As long
as you are within the average or two standard deviations from the average, you will pass.

So this year, true to form, I took the benchmark exam and waited with anticipation for the
results. I opened my email and was relieved to see a 65% (which was considered passing). I
jumped up—I shouted—I was extremely excited! I had managed to scrape by.

Later in the evening as the excitement settled, I started to think….I only mastered 65% of the
material….yet I was still glad that I was just as clueless as the rest of my class. It didn’t bother me
that I had forgotten 35% of the material or that ….70% or higher was considered conventional
passing. Just as long as I was like everyone else, I was satisfied. And MORE importantly, I
was relieved at the fact that I would not have to retake the exam. I then extended this to an
even bigger analogy…how many times was I happy being a “within two standard deviations”
Christian?

Often times when I look back on my Christian walk, I have been guilty of being satisfied with my
51% because my neighbor was sitting at 40%. I mean, there are a few who are high achievers.
But when you average all of us together, I am right there in the middle of the bunch. I am sure
this will let me scrape by past heaven’s pearly gates…or will it?

As I really begin to think about it, I am not so sure that this is what Christianity is about at all. In
fact, what I just described to you are some of the signs and symptoms of a lukewarm Christian
(as per Francis Chan). I am not guaranteed admission into heaven or even a glimpse of Jesus
because I am better than the next guy. Just because everyone fails does not mean Jesus grades on
a curve. You see, His blood is too precious for us not to be living according to our calling or for
us not to be striving for better.

Don’t get me wrong; sin is second nature to us. We are constantly fighting battles against the
flesh and there will be days when we will fail. The question is not whether we will fail or fall, the
question is whether we are okay with that or do we keep pushing for better - striving to beat the
odds. Remember, God looks at the heart. David wasn’t called a chaser after God’s own heart
because he was blameless and perfect, but because even after he failed he sought to be better and
to do better.

So today, dear brother/sister, don’t be satisfied with where you are because you’re “average”.
Strive to be better. For those of you who are not currently passing - don’t worry. There are still
opportunities to remediate or to relearn the material and take the exam again.

As Paul states, let us keep pushing and striving for the prize of the upward call (Phil. 3:14).

-Went to class

-Ran- I nearly passed out..its ben a while...I had to stop several times to breathe....on a side note really beautiful weather in kingsville...not as nippy as I like but still not as hot....so running outside is great

-Cooked- Thats right...I cooked dinner....baked Tilapia!! and it didn't taste bad either!
-Finished power point for a committee meeting.

-Basically everything on the planner was checked off.

The Necessity of Obstacles:
Derived From Luke chapter 19

God is in the middle of your mess (both outside (people and circumstances outside of our control) and inside (of our own making-generally have more control) obstacles)

The Story of Zacheus:

19 He entered Jericho and was passing through. ²And behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus. He was a chief tax collector and was rich. ³And he was seeking to see who Jesus was, but on account of the crowd he could not, because he was small in stature. ⁴So he ran on ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him, for he was about to pass that way.⁵And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, hurry and come down, for I must stay at your house today.” ⁶So he hurried and came down andreceived him joyfully. ⁷And when they saw it, they all grumbled, “He has gone in to be the guest of a man who is a sinner.” ⁸And Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, “Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor. And if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I restore it fourfold.” ⁹And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, since he also is a son of Abraham. ¹⁰For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

1. Everyone is short in some area- no one is perfect
Luke 19:4-> If Zacheus was not short he would never have been able to see Jesus

2nd Corinthians 4: 17-18- ¹⁷For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, ¹⁸ as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.

2. Those standing in your way are there to help you climb. Resistances is not meant to stop you but rather make you stronger and to challenge. It us up to us to decide how we choose to react in such situations. These obstacles force us to make a new choice...and it is in this choice that we are ready to meet Jesus.
Luke 19:5-- God already knows his name....he is also saying...Hey it is okay for my name to be associated with your name. Isn't that great. Regardless of whether we are considered the outcast of the town Jesus has decided that we are worth being associated with.
Romans 5:3-5

3 Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance,⁴and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, ⁵and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

3. Your obstacle is actually a divine appointment to meet Jesus
a. brings you to a point of decision making- one that you would not have have made before. Which allows you to climb and see Jesus
b. It gets you frustrated-- gets you out of your comfort zone- gets you to a place that you want to do something about it

Extraneous Thoughts:
Life can be bad but God is always Good
You have to take a new action to get a new result.
Inference to child getting shots--although a child is often not told by his parents when he is going to get shots the parent is usually aware of what is going on....although shots are painful for the children they are necessary and essential. Often our obstacles may be painful but remember that God knows and allows them in our lives.
Luke 19:7 Jesus refers to Zaccheus as son of Abraham- he's one of the family.

Style Icon (summer): Emily Maynard

Emily Maynard first appeared on the bachelor (she won) Brad womack's season (we all know how I feel about shows like the bachelor.....) but...I watched the show simply for her fashion. She did the show again last season as the bachelorette and we were able to see more of her lovely-chic fashion.

Here is how you can achieve Emily's flawless style:

1. Colorful scarves- Emily is not shy to dawn the scarves- a scarf adds a little something extra to any outfit (this one is only 15$ at oldnavy buy a similar one here http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=85043&vid=1&pid=576186)

2. You can never go wrong with a good pair of boots- especially for the fall- I got mine last year at target (they look like Frye boots)

3. Jeggings- Being a short girl finding a pair of skinny jeans that fit right lengthwise is very difficult over the summer my mom got me a pair of jeggings (jean leggings) on sale from Tommy Hilfigure (they were like 20$). I love them.

4. Trench Coat- This is a wardrobe staple--it can fit so many different styles- if you go to stores like papaya or forever 21 you can get a fairly cheap option

5. Essie Fiji- I feel as though this nail polish was made famous by Emily. It is a very light shade of pink--one that I would not normally be caught dead in...but it works.

6. I love stripes...they work with anything. The first shirt is on sale at Target for like 5$ ...the second one is from jcrew and it is 30% off.

7. Another wardrobe staple- A black blazer with pin stripe lining- I recently found a suuper cheap option at Rue21 for 25$ (it doesn't look too shabby quality wise either)

8. wedge platforms were a staple for emily during the bachelorette- I showed two options, the more colorful ones--she actually wore on the show and they run around ~600$ and the coral ones are around 13$ at Target ( I think these work great and they don't hurt the wallet either)

9. Plaid is so in this fall. This shirt would go great over a pair jeggings or tucked into a skirt.
