No, we’ve not forgotten about the Wordtrip Podcast yet. We’ve actually got some interviews planned for later this year. The Wordtrip podcast is being re-worked, re-tooled, re-thought, and we’ll see where we end up. Until then… You should be writing.

It’s the STORY Stupid hasn’t podfadded, but as I’m working a different job, my schedule is such that I’ve not been able to work out time for recording and editing yet. FYI: I’ve been out of town for a week, but right before I left I did an interview with Richard Lowry.
Richard is one of our Wordtrip writers who we’ve watched go from self-published book on the first gulf war to very successful traditional publisher book on the battle for An Nasiriyah. I’ve got to edit the interview together as I did it with skype and audio hijack pro, but it should be coming up later this week.

Here’s the final installment of my interview with Orson Scott Card. I probably failed in my attempt to not be too much of a fanboy when asking him about his work. There IS some good stuff here on the structure of a novel and some examples of how he thinks he didn’t get it right in some of his books.

This runs only about 10 minutes as I was eager to move on to writing questions.

This is the second part of the Orson Scott Card interview. This was actually the first part I recorded with OSC and myself PLUS the added bonus of Ed Schubert who is the new editor of InterGalactic Medicine Show The audio quality with both of them talking wasn’t quite what I expected/wanted, so the sound has been tweaked to get you as much content as possible. This is about 35 minutes or so and the largest section of the interview. I hope you enjoy listening at least half as much as I did recording it.

Year of writing: My “get it done every day” process involves writing before bed, and turning off the internal editor which apparently takes me a little too close to where I dream as I find myself dozing off near the end (the last few sentences end up being goofy and random).

Well, I finally got something recorded for you. I’m still messing with mics and such, and playing with the new podcast settings in GarageBand, so things on the sound quality front may still be a bit dodgy. BUT we’ve got a podcast, some rambling on originality and how hard it can be to have your own voice. This was prompted by the recent controversy over “How Opal Mehta God Kissed, God Wild, and Got a Life” by Kaavya Viswanathan AND my own struggle with a story that runs off into somebody else’s plot.

A) This might be a bit quiet again, but hopefully not so quiet you can’t hear it… I’ll work out the recording kinks soon, if not the horrible sound of my voice.

B) I had to record this twice… I screwed up something after the first time and lost all of MY voice (still had the music and the voicemail info)… so hopefully I didn’t rush through it too much and miss anything after that second run through (and yes I had written out pretty detailed notes to begin with… so I KNEW what I was TRYING to say… so I probably screwed it up).

We got a few responses from the last podcast that I play back for you and discuss here. I’ll tackle a new subject next time. The book I mention is Storyteller by Kate Wilhelm, and the comments mostly relate to a couple of things I pulled from the book last time.
