I came across a reference to this employer and decided to check it out. Now, when I learned of it, it seemed to specialize in transcription services. However, the company's website lists a lot of other outsourced activities, so I'm guessing they upgraded (I was reading over a year old info) -

With all that being said, Capital Typing doesn't seem to list much potential employee related information on it's site. I know from doing research that they do hire, but they seem either slow with responses or very selective. And I hear they don't pay too great, but ya gotta go where the money is. As a freelancer, how much creative freedom do I have to choose what I want to write about and how I want to say it?

A heck of a lot, though we aren't looking for navel-gazing bloggers, those who'd really rather just have their own homepage, hucksters out to peddle their own goods, or articles masking as confessional catharsis. We want you to write articles on your area of expertise, get to the point with conviction, humor, excitement, accuracy, and experience... does that sound like you?

Can I be a freelance writer for more than one topic?

Contributing Writers can write articles on any one of our nearly 3,000 categories while Feature Writers represent a topic and devote more time to that topic by writing a blog, moderating discussions, as well as posting weekly articles. Feature Writers can write additional articles on other topics.

Will I get help learning to be a writer for the Web?

Sure, it's a free world. We know freelance writers need to make a living and you have to spread the wealth, so we don't demand you're exclusive, but your content on our site has to be for the first year.

So what do you consider an "original article"?

Articles must be written wholly by you and not appear anywhere else on the Web. Altering 10% of an article that appears identically on another site, does not constitute original material. Articles should be tightly focused, in context, well-balanced, objective, add to the debate, written in the third person, cite verifiable sources, limited in external links, and fascinating from lead to last paragraph. Article formats include "how tos," pros and cons, introductions, reviews, op-ed essays, definitions, interviews, profiles, exposes, potted histories ... you get the idea. Suite101 is not a self-publishing site, we do not accept one-liners, book-length pieces, blogging, recycled press releases, self-promotion, thinly veiled sales pitches, fiction, propaganda or personal memoirs.

How much time will it take to write an article?

We like to think it will average about an hour an article, but if you're a fast writer and thinker and have your links and photos ready, it could take less.... Um, I guess that didn't answer your question. Why don't you email a writer in the section you're interested in and ask them? Suffice it to say the more (and better) you write the more you earn, so you do the math...

What happens if I don't post articles regularly?

We'll give you as much help as we can, strongly urge you to read our tips and instructions, and check in on your stats, but if you do none of the above in the first three months, we will politely remove your writer status. You will continue to earn money if your content is still live, and feel free to re-apply at a later point in time again when you feel you are up to meeting your commitment.

If you keep my content on the site after I leave (for personal, professional, health, other reasons) do I still get paid?

Yes, we continue to track and accrue, and we pay revenues to your account monthly.

Do I own the copyright to my work? How is this different from electronic rights?

Yes, always and absolutely copyright stays with the writer. You own the electronic rights if the work you post on our site isn't under contract elsewhere on the Web. You need to be able to grant them to us for one year exclusively (and after that on a non-exclusive basis) so we can post the material on our site. After that year, you can post the same material elsewhere crediting Suite101 as the original publisher. Electronic rights are sometimes bundled with radio, TV, electronic book rights, but we are only interested in them as they apply to the Web.

If I have articles in print magazines, books, or newspapers that are applicable to my topic and I own the electronic rights, and they're "evergreen", can I republish them on the site?

Sure, as long as they scan easily for a reader on the Web (who tends to like things short and sweet) .

Can I publish the same freelance writing on some other site after a year?

Yes, that's your choice, we just want to be first.

Will you protect exclusivity during that first year by going after sites that steal my freelance work and/or don't credit it to me and Suite101?

We'll do our best if you bring it to our attention or we discover it on our own and we have a bulldog lawyer, but we need your help to monitor abuses and stay vigilant. Technically, it's your responsibility, but hey we're here to help.

Earning money

How long will it take before I start to earn money as a freelance writer?

You start earning and accruing money right away, but how much depends on many factors including the rate at which you post new content, the quality of the articles, the aptness of your titles, the amount of promotion you do, the speed at which the search engines index and rank you... but you are paid your share of ad revenues on your material, in full, monthly. It could take quite a while before you consider quitting your day job, but writing for Suite101 is a "long tail" game so whatever you write will continue to earn you revenue as long as it's on the site.

What is "revenue sharing" anyway?

We are currently partnering with Google to advertise on Suite101. Google supplies ads to our site based on inventory matching the keywords (purchased by advertisers) that appear in your material. This program is called Google AdSense and it "delivers relevant text and image ads that are precisely targeted to your site and your site content. The ads are related to what your visitors are looking for on your site or matched to the characteristics and interests of the visitors your content attracts." Only they know how much the ads generate when a visitor clicks on a link, but you get a predetermined share of that when it happens, and they track it whenever it happens and add it to your balance. The more pages you have, the more ads appear, the more chances readers will click on them and make you money.

Note that we are currently working exclusively with Google for contextual advertising, however, should we partner with other advertisers in the future to greater benefit of our writers, the process would be very similar.

What happens if Google doesn't have any ads that match my content?

This is rare, and often temporary, but they reserve the right to filter content for words with which advertisers may not wish to be associated or to change their terms or business model.

So experienced writers and Feature Writers receive a bonus. How does this work?

Let's say you have already got a couple of articles on our site and get promoted to that vacant Feature Writer spot. Up to now, your articles have earned you $10 every day. You become a Feature Writer, and that means that you receive a bonus of +20% for as long as you are a Feature Writer on all your articles. All things being equal, you can look forward to $12 a day. And that's before you have counted in that topic homepage and started writing those Feature Writer articles and blog posts that should see you growing even quicker!

Do I get a share of banner advertising too?

This is a separate program and revenue share is not available to writers in this format.

How do I know what I'm earning?

Suite101 has a stats program that you can see privately whenever you log in so you can keep an eye on your revenues, pageviews, visitor numbers, keywords and referring sites that deliver traffic. Warning: obsessive checking may result in screen blindness.

Do you send me a check?

This is 2007 - everything is electronic now. You sign up with PayPal using your email address and your bank information and money is simply sent to that address, which is automatically transferred to your bank account.

How do I get an editorial letter of reference?

What Requirements Are Needed To Start?

Evening dialing is required. 5pm to 9pm into the time zone you are dialing. Legal calling time is 9am to 9pm Monday-Friday.

*** Since you are NEVER to hand dial, there is only one way to be able to do the dialing with CLC’s automated dialing system. Once connected your phone will work as usual for inbound and outbound calling even when your computer is not on.

If you have an internal dialup modem you will see one or two phone jacks on the back of your PC down on the bottom right. If there are two they will be right beside each other. There will be words or pictures above or beside the jacks so you can determine which one is for the phone. You want to plug the corded phone with the headset into the jack for the phone. You will need an extra phone wire with the clippie plug on each end long enough to reach from the PC to the wall jack for the phone number you are going to be using to work. One end of the extra phone wire goes to the back of the PC next to the jack for the phone. The other end of the extra phone wire goes into the wall jack. You now have the connection going from the wall jack to the PC and from the PC to the corded phone. You should have a dial tone and be able to use the phone normally.

If you have an external dialup modem follow the directions above.

If you only have one phone jack on the back of your PC you will need a single line two-way telephone splitter. Plug the splitter into the one phone jack on the back of the PC turning it into two phone jacks now and proceed the same as above.

If you have a laptop you will only have one phone jack. You will need the single line two-way phone splitter to make two phone jacks. You might want to take your laptop with you to the store to see if the splitter will click into the laptop phone jack. In some cases you will need a pigtail to attach the splitter to the laptop jack so none of your other ports are covered. You would then follow the same directions above for your connection.

If you are using a digital phone service such as VOIP or Vonage you will need to plug the extra phone wire into the phone jack on the external digital modem box instead of the wall jack.

If you have DSL with a filter on the wall jack you would plug the end of the extra phone wire into the phone port on the DSL filter, not the external DSL modem box.

ALL OF THE REQUIREMENTS ABOVE MUST BE MET, INCLUDING ATTACHING THE CORDED PHONE WITH THE HEADSET TO YOUR PC DIALUP MODEM, IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR EMPLOYMENT! NO EXCEPTIONS!

Q: What is an Independent Agent?

A: An Agent is an independent contractor that develops and manages their own business. An Independent Agent contracts with LiveOps under an Independent Contractors Agreement to receive calls from people requesting products or services from LiveOps clients.

Q: Does LiveOps certify Agents in every state?

A: Yes, LiveOps does have certified Agents in the contiguous 48 states. However, we make specific certification decisions based on needs within a state.

Q: How much money can I earn as an Independent Agent?

A: LiveOps engages Agents according to the volume of work available from our clients. Also, as an Independent Agent you do not have a minimum or maximum of time you need to work.

In most cases, Agents invoice LiveOps per minute of talk time. Each program will have a unique rate per minute. On average, individual Agents invoice LiveOps $6.00 and $15.00 per hour depending on talk time and performance. New Agents typically invoice $6.00-$8.50 per hour. In addition, many clients provide additional selling incentives for certain products or services. These incentives can dramatically increase Agent revenue as Agents become more confident in their ability to sell the products and services. As Agents become more skilled they can invoice $9.00-$11.00 per hour. This is largely due to more calls being routed to higher performing and experienced Agents. Exceptional teleservices Agents can invoice as much as $20.00 per hour.

Q: How many hours can I work?

A: As an Independent Contractor, you can provide services as many or as few hours as your schedule permits.

Q: How are my Agent fees paid? How often?

A: Agents submit invoices using an online system. LiveOps pays Agent fees by either check or direct deposit. Fees are calculated from the 1st to the 15th, and from the 16th to the end of the month. Fees are paid (deposits made and checks mailed) on the first business day following the close of an invoice period.

Q: How long before my business generates revenue?

A: Once LiveOps receives all necessary documents and all equipment is in working order, you may begin our certification process. Motivated Agents can complete certifications and begin accepting telephone calls (thus generating revenue) within a week.

Q: Does LiveOps have opportunities that are of limited duration?

A: From time to time, LiveOps will have programs that are of limited duration that require a large number of Agents. These opportunities are usually seasonal, and last between one and four months.

A: Agents that successfully manage their home based businesses share the following traits:

Q: How old must I be to be considered by LiveOps?

A: If your business is a corporation, partnership, or LLC, there is no age requirement. However, the principle in your business must be 18 years of age. If your business is a sole proprietorship (self employment), then you must be 18 years of age or older to be considered by LiveOps.

Q: Do I have to be a legal resident of the United States?

A: Yes, LiveOps requires that all contracted Agents legally reside in the United States.

Q: Can I live in Canada?

A: Unfortunately, LiveOps does not contract with individuals or businesses in Canada at this time.

Q: Will I need a Tax Identification Number?

A: Yes, as an Independent Contractor you will need a Tax Identification Number. If you are a corporation, LLC, or partnership, you will have a tax ID for that entity. If you are a sole proprietorship (self employed), you may use your social security number for your Tax Identification Number. Your state, however, may be different, so please check the requirements in your state. At year end, LiveOps will provide a 1099 - Miscellaneous Income Form for your year end tax reporting purposes.

Q: Are there minimum hours or a minimum amount of calls that are required?

A: Scheduling time is strictly up to each Agent. Agents can provide services as little or as often as their lifestyle allows. The only minimum call requirement for LiveOps agents is that a few calls are taken within a 60 day time period.

Agent Selection

Q: What is the process for becoming an Agent?

A: Simply click on the "Let's Get Started!" Button on the LiveOps website. Once the basic information is provided, LiveOps tests for reading comprehension. We also require a voice audition. Depending on the business opportunities currently available. you may also be invited to complete a 45 minute assessment that helps LiveOps ensure a match between candidates and the company. When these steps have been completed, LiveOps will review your qualifications and objectively make a determination based on business need.

If your home business meets LiveOps Agent Qualifications, you will be invited to a Virtual Business Presentation. This Presentation will provide an overview of the LiveOps business model, the role of the Independent Contractor, and all the necessary information you will need to determine whether LiveOps can assist you in growing your business.

Q: How will LiveOps contact me if I am selected to attend the Virtual Business Presentation?

A: You will receive an email from LiveOps with a web address and pass code for attending the Virtual Business Presentation. Once you receive this email, you will have 7 days to attend the online presentation, and respond to LiveOps indicating an interest in moving forward to the Certification Process.

Q: Is there a contractor's fee?

A: At this time, LiveOps does not charge a contractor's fee; however, LiveOps will require a $30 non refundable check or money order to cover a routine background and credit check for all candidates indicating an interest in moving forward in the LiveOps Certification Process after the Virtual Business Presentation. Certain short term and temporary business opportunities that do not involve access to caller personal or credit information may not require a background and/or credit check. If that is the case, candidates will be notified in advance, and will not be asked to pay for the background and credit check.

Q: Why does LiveOps require a $30.00 processing fee for a credit and background check?

A: LiveOps maintains the highest Agent standards in the industry. As a result, candidates to become Independent Contractors for LiveOps must pass rigid credit and background requirements. The $30.00 fee covers the cost of a thorough review of a candidate's background.

Q: Why does LiveOps run background and credit checks on their potential Agents?

A: Sometimes LiveOps Agents have access to private company or customer information, so LiveOps does this as a precautionary measure to help protect the security of information from both our callers and the clients who contract with LiveOps to take their calls.

Q: If LiveOps receives an low credit rating for me, will I still be considered to become an Independent Agent?

A: A low credit rating will not automatically disqualify you for all call types. LiveOps will contact you personally if a major issue arises.

Technical Requirements

Q: What are the minimum equipment requirements?

A: Offering services through LiveOps will require the following computer and software set-up:

A personal computer with a 600MHZ processor or better with at least 256 MB of memory
Windows XP with service pack2 and the latest security patches. We do not recommend Windows XP Home Edition
At least one USB port
Internet Explorer 6 SP2
Java 2 Version 1.5 or higher
System configured in accordance with Microsoft's recommendations as outlined on their 'Protect Your PC Web Site." These steps include:
- Windows Update module enabled and configured to update automatically
- Windows standard firewall enabled on systems where it exists
- Anti-Virus software installed and configured to automatically update (please refer to Microsoft's web site for instructions on securing your system)
- Microsoft also has free anti-spyware that is very effective in killing sypware. It can be downloaded for free at http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/

Q: Can I use a MAC computer?

A: Macintosh computers are not compatible with the LiveOps system.

Q: What are the internet connectivity requirements?

A: LiveOps requires either a DSL or Cable broadband connection. LiveOps will not support a satellite or dialup connection at this time.

Q: Can I use my home telephone to receive calls as an Agent?

A: No, a separate landline telephone that is dedicated to your home business will be necessary. This line must only be used to receive LiveOps incoming calls. This line cannot be used for any other incoming or outgoing personal calls. LiveOps does require you to provide to us a separate contact telephone number (i.e. your home telephone or cell phone number).

Q: What is a landline?

A: A landline is a telephone line that is connected to your local telephone company. LiveOps will not support a phone line from a cable company due to the digital signal. LiveOps will not support satellite signals (eg: VOIP) for similar security reasons.

Q: What are the specific requirements on the dedicated landline telephone?

A: The telephone must be corded, and be free from all features such as call waiting and voice mail. Cordless phones are not allowed.

Q: Will I need to call long distance?

A: Long distance will not be necessary.

Q: Can cell phones be used for incoming calls?

A: LiveOps will not support cell phones due to security reasons.

Q: Does LiveOps provide Agents with the physical tools to perform services?

A: As an Independent Agent, you are responsible for providing and maintaining all equipment and outside services necessary to provide contracted services to LiveOps.

Q: Does LiveOps charge agents to use their technology?

A: At the present time, LiveOps does not charge Agents to use the basic Contact Center technology.

Getting Started

Q: What deadlines should I be aware of?

A: Candidates businesses selected to join the LiveOps Business Presentation will have 7 days from the date of the invitation to view the online presentation.

Candidates that attend the online Business Presentation will have 24 hours to contact LiveOps via email if they choose to move forward.

Once candidates have returned required documentation to LiveOps, certifications must be completed within 30 days. (All certifications can be easily completed within a week.)

Q: What topics are covered in the Virtual Business Presentation?

A: The 30 minute LiveOps Virtual Business Presentation will cover the necessary documents required to become an Independent Agent, and reinforce equipment and software requirements that are noted on the LiveOps FAQ page. The Presentation will also provide Candidates with an overview of the business opportunities currently available through LiveOps, detail our Certification Process. It will also cover how Agent self scheduling system works, how Agents will invoice LiveOps for services rendered, and the resources available to Agents to build revenue for their home based business.

Q: How do I schedule time to accept telephone calls?

A: LiveOps issues scheduling opportunities for new agents twice a week. As an Independent Agent, you can commit to half hour time slots that fit into your schedule. The scheduling process will be covered more thoroughly in the Virtual Business Presentation.

Q: I am a former LiveOps Agent. How do I reactivate my independent contractor status?

A: If you were an active Agent with LiveOps during the last 6 months, please contact agentonboarding@liveops.com, and your records will be reviewed. If you left in good standing, your old account will be reactivated after completion of a certification refresher. If six months have passed since your last activity (accepting calls), you must reapply for certification.

Life as a LiveOps Contractor

Q: Can other people take calls under my LiveOps account?

A: Yes. But, for security and contractual reasons, all individuals receiving calls must be certified. Therefore, all certified individuals may take calls on your account. If you take an extended vacation, you may change your dedicated phone line provided all LiveOps land line and telephone requirements are met.

Q: When is the heaviest call volume?

A: For new Agents handling food service calls, the most opportune times to generate revenue are between 5:30pm and 10:30pm across all time zones. As you might expect, Friday, Saturday and Sunday typically have the heaviest volume of calls. Other types of calls drive heavy call volume during different time slots. For example, Direct Response calls are heaviest during Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Q: Can I work when I travel or while I am on vacation?

A: LiveOps requires that Agents receive calls only on the dedicated business line. Calls will not be rerouted to any other number

Q: I will not be able to take calls for an extended period. Will I lose my status?

A: Your IC account will remain active until you have not taken a call in 60 days.

Q: Does LiveOps reimburse Agent expenses?

A: No. LiveOps contracts with Independent Agents to provide services. It is the Agents responsibility equipment and materials to maintain their home business.

Q: Do all agents receive the same call volume?

A: The volume of calls that an Agent receives will vary based on a variety of factors. Agents that "commit" to being available during peak television infomercial and commercial time slots will obviously have a much better opportunity to receive additional calls. Additionally, LiveOps has a proprietary call routing system which routes calls based on, but not limited to, Agent's schedule adherence, talk time, and average order.

Q: How can I generate additional revenue?

A: Agents have much control over how much they can invoice LiveOps. As noted above, schedule adherence, efficient talk time, and increased average order size will probably receive more calls. LiveOps will offer sales fees and /or performance incentives for specific time periods. Finally, some clients provide Agents with additional sales opportunities with enhanced earnings potential. Agents can self-schedule themselves to programs matching their program skills.

Q: Is it possible to lose my certification?

A: Agents can lose their certification and have their Independent Contractor Agreement cancelled if the agreement terms are violated.

Q: Can LiveOps unilaterally terminate my Agent relationship?

A: An Agent's Independent Contractor Agreement will not be terminated by LiveOps provided the terms of the Agreement and the published standards are fulfilled, and as long as an Agent remains active. LiveOps determines "active" to mean taking a minimum of two calls every 60 days.

INTRODUCTION TO TRANSCRIBING

If you are a quick typist with a good ear for language and a strong sense of written English, transcribing for Tigerfish can be a way to earn money while working at home (or on the road) with a flexible schedule. Tigerfish has been in business since 1989. While we demand the highest quality of work from our transcribers, we are known for friendliness and flexibility concerning their needs. Many transcribers have been with us for more than a decade. These include stay-at-home parents, artists and writers pursuing creative projects, and people working from abroad as they travel.

Transcription is the rendering of recorded speech into written form. Our clients produce a wide variety of materials, from single subject interviews to focus groups, documentary film footage to corporate research projects, police interrogations to depositions. Different styles and levels of interpretation are called for: absolute verbatim, editing for clarity, or occasionally having to paraphrase specified sections. One thing we have found to be indispensable in a successful transcriber is the ability to write well. Spoken language often takes forms that are subject to a wide degree of grammatical and syntactical interpretation. It is the job of the transcriber to listen for meaning and make intelligent decisions on the best way to render the spoken word in written form.

In order to transcribe for Tigerfish, you must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident. You will need high-speed Internet access (no dial-up), a telephone number where you regularly can be reached, a Windows-based computer (Macs unfortunately are not compatible with the video timecoding software we use), and a copy of Express Scribe transcription software, a free program you can download here. No initial purchase is required.

GETTING STARTED

Please download "Tigerfish Transcription Style Guide" and take the time to read it. This is a good introduction to our approach to transcription and the stylistic conventions we aim to employ.

Next, we'd like to see a sample of your transcribing. Click here to download an audio file of our test, and save it on your computer. If you do not yet have a means of playing audio files, please obtain Express Scribe as mentioned earlier.

The recording consists of three 5-minute segments representing typical transcription material: a focus group, an interview, and a presentation. The segments are separated by a few seconds of silence. Please transcribe each segment according to the specifications described below. Pay strict attention to the transcription style specified for each segment. The three transcripts should be saved in one document, formatted as follows:

Each segment should begin on a new page. At the top of the first page of the segment, place the following:

So, referring to the Work Order below, at the top of the first page of your transcript you will write:

Each segment should take around twenty minutes to complete. This is a freelance opportunity. We cannot guarantee that there will be work available, but if you have the qualifications EditFast's clients are looking for, and if you are patient, there may be projects for you in the future. You should be aware, however, that EditFast has no obligation to provide work for you now or at any time in the future. Completing the registration process and passing the EditFast review does not necessarily mean you will receive projects. It simply means you are eligible to receive projects and your Web page is available for EditFast's clients to view and perhaps choose you as their editor. If you are selected for a project by a client or by the EditFast administration you will be notified and that project will be directed to you.

Only those editors whose Web pages have been enabled are eligible to receive New Project Notifications. For those who are not successful, all information connected to your email address will be deleted, and notification of this will be sent (This can take anywhere from one day to two weeks).

EditFast provides a free service to freelance editors. There are promotional tools provided to help the enabled editors promote their free Web pages and their skills and talents as editors. When new projects are received from clients by the EditFast administration these projects will be sent out to the best qualified editor taking into consideration the needs of the client and the needs of the document. Our goal is to provide fast, quality service to our clients and send work to as many editors as possible. However, at no time is EditFast under any obligation to provide work to any editor. You are a freelancer. You are free to search for opportunities wherever they might be. EditFast is one of those opportunities.

How the EditFast System Works

Registration and Enabling Your Web Page
- To begin, all potential editors must register and complete the following steps
  1. Resume Builder
  2. Editing Tests
  3. Non-disclosure agreement
  4. Web Page Builder
- Next, you must wait until I give your submitted information and your Web page a personal review.
- If successful, you will be notified that your Web page and profile have been "enabled." (This can take anywhere from one day to two weeks)
- Only those editors whose Web pages have been enabled are eligible to receive New Project Notifications.
- For those who are not successful all profile and related information will be deleted and notification of this will be sent. (This can take anywhere from one day to two weeks)

Receiving New Project Notifications

All those who receive notification from the EditFast administration that their Web page has been enabled are then eligible to receive New Project Notifications. EditFast does not guarantee that you will receive a New Project Notification and these notifications are not a guarantee of work. They are simply a message sent to notify you that a client or the EditFast admin has requested communication with you about a project. If you have the required skills, software, and are available at that time then you will receive the project.

New Project Notifications can come from two sources:

1. New Project Notifications direct from potential clients.

If a client selects you as an editor, you will receive notification containing a link to the project description and the client's message. This notification will be sent to the email address you have registered with EditFast.
Download the document and look it over.
Click on "Create Estimate" on the project description page or in your project list and complete the estimate form.
The client will receive your estimate and either agree, decline, or submit a counter proposal. Continue until a decision has been made. Hopefully, an agreement will be reached.
It is entirely your responsibility to deal with clients and I will not interfere in the process unless you need help. I am always available for consultation on any matter.

2. New Project Notifications from the EditFast administration.

The process is similar to the above but in this case the projects will sometimes be offered at a set rate and sometimes require an estimate.
The "client" is EditFast.

Payment
- Payments to editors will be made through PayPal.
- Clients pay EditFast and EditFast pays the editors.
- EditFast gets 30% of the final total project price whether the project comes directly from a client or from the EditFast administration.
- Upon completion of a project the editor must submit a formal invoice to EditFast from the project description page.
- EditFast pays all invoices on the last day of the month following the month of receipt of the invoice.

Restrictions
- Direct contact with a client is expressly forbidden except through the EditFast Message Center.
- For security reasons and to maintain our client base you must never include your email address, telephone number, last name, mailing address, or any personal contact information of any kind in any message sent to an EditFast client or potential client.
- Anyone found trying to circumvent these restrictions will no longer be eligible for New Project Notifications and all information related to that editor's email address, name and profile will be deleted from the editor database.

Q. What is Working Solutions?
A. Working Solutions was created in 1996, to provide more legitimate work-at-home opportunities for those caring for family members, looking for supplemental income, and wanting or needing to work from home. What started as a very small in-house operation has grown steadily and solidly ever since. The Working Solutions process is very similar to that of a bricks and mortar temporary agency, but our agent workforce is made up of highly qualified independent contractors who work solely from their homes. We partner with clients from many different lines of business, providing them with a very capable and flexible supplemental workforce, as well as a talented project management team.

Rest assured, Working Solutions is NOT a scam and our Agents are NEVER CHARGED ANY FEES to apply or work with us. Many other web sites and work-from-home publications copy and publish information about us without our knowledge, and may include invalid or outdated information. The only advertising we do currently is through our own web site.

Q. What kinds of project work do you do?
A. Each project is different, which is part of what makes our work so interesting! We do focus primarily on various types of call center (phone) work, as well as some data entry projects. Call center projects can include order processing, reservations, enrollments, customer service, sales, market research, technical support, etc. Other types of project work may be added at any time. Our technology enables calls to be routed right to the Agent's home office. The Agent’s privacy is always maintained, and there are no long distance charges. If you are only able to do non-phone work, or can only work certain hours, such as evenings and weekends, just be sure to note this where prompted on the Agent Application. Hours and requirements for each project are different, but some do include non-business hours. For most projects, Agents schedule their own hours online, one week in advance, so hours can differ from week to week.

Q. How do I become a Working Solutions Agent?
A. First, click on the "To apply to become a Working Solutions agent" and take a few moments to thoroughly and accurately complete our application form. Please be sure to complete the entire application, so you will have a better chance of being contacted for project work. Please do not send resumes separately, but you may paste resume information into the Comments section of the application.

The Agent Application must be completed online so it will be added to our database. If you have trouble opening the application form, please be sure you have done a Windows Update recently, and are using Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher to view the site.

Once your application has been submitted, you will have the opportunity to take Part 1 of our online testing at that time, or return and complete it at a later time. Once that is completed, you will receive instructions on completing Part 2 of the testing. After both parts are complete, your application will be added to our database and will be screened as soon as possible.

You will be notified by email if you have not met the standards we have set for our agent group. Otherwise, you will be notified that you are in the "pending pool" and will be considered for project opportunities that appear to be a good match with your skills, experience, home office set up, and availability. As soon as there is a potential match, we will contact you by email with a Project Notification, detailing the specifics of the available project. If you accept the terms and are selected for the project, an agreement will be drafted stating that you are an independent contractor for Working Solutions. It will also outline the scope of the project and required objectives. You will then be scheduled to go through a virtual preparation session prior to beginning work on the project.

Because there are so many qualified agents waiting for work, it can take a while to be notified about your first project. New projects can begin at any time, and each has different requirements, so it is impossible to provide an estimate of when you will be contacted. Please be patient and realize that you do not need to email us regarding your status. We will contact you directly, as soon as there is something available for you. You should be sure your ISP and/or email programs are set to accept email from anyone with an @workingsol.com email address so you will be able to receive information from us.

Q. Do I need to apply more than once?
A. No, you should only complete one application, and additional applications will be deleted. You may update your record at any time, using the "Update your Application" button and the password you establish when completing the initial application. You will need to use the email address you originally provided in your application to access your record. It is very important that you keep your application updated with a valid email address! This is how we will contact you regarding projects.

Q. Do you have work available for someone in my State?
A. Our Agents work virtually from their home offices, so most projects can be completed from anywhere in the U.S.

Q. Do you hire Agents who reside outside of the United States?
A. Yes, we are able to contract with individuals from anywhere in the world. Many call center projects are limited to US residents, however, due to telecommunications expenses.

Q. Do you outsource work to subcontractors?
A. No, at this time we only contract directly with individuals and manage all projects internally.

Q. What equipment do I need to work as an Agent?
A. Qualified Agents must have an up-to-date, reliable computer in their home, with a minimum of 256MB of RAM, and at least a 1 Ghz Processor recommended. A broadband internet connection (Cable, DSL, T1, ISDN, Satellite) is required for all projects—sorry, there are no exceptions to this. Some call center projects are not compatible with Satellite, AOL Broadband, or Wireless ISPs. Computers must be current on Windows Updates and certain projects have restrictions regarding firewalls, pop up blockers, etc. A Windows XP operating system with updated patches and critical updates is also required, so agents must be able to upgrade to one of this version before beginning a project. We cannot currently support Macintosh platforms. Call center projects also require a telephone line, telephone headset, working printer, and without exception, a quiet, uninterrupted work environment during all working hours.

Q. What happens when the project ends?
A. Agents who have successfully completed at least 40 hours on a project are eligible to post for additional projects that are available to active agents first. Agents are typically eligible to work on 2-3 projects at once. We cannot guarantee consistent work will be available, but we do our best to keep our reliable and successful agents busy!

Please remember that reliability is as important as performance, especially when working with a virtual workforce. Agents are able to schedule the hours they want to work, but are responsible for those hours once scheduled. Agents who consistently follow through on their commitments and perform well on their projects will have more success as the competition continues to get tougher!

Q. Do you provide benefits?
A. All of our Agents are Independent Contractors, and are therefore self-employed. Traditional employee benefits, such as paid time off and health insurance, cannot be offered, but Agents are able to schedule their own hours and work when it is convenient for them, from the comfort of home, without the hassles of commuting and dry cleaning, for example. Working Solutions also offers several Agent Community Perks, including discounts to major computer retailers, and Agent Rewards and Referral Programs. Speaking of referrals, if you were referred to us by one of our Agents, be sure to list them on your application, so they can receive credit for bringing us another qualified Agent!

Q. How much can I earn and how will I be paid?
A. Each project is paid differently, some by the record or entry, other by talk minutes, sales, or a combination of both. Some may be paid a set amount per project. Agents have earned the equivalent of anywhere from $7.20 per hour to $30 per hour, depending on the project. Your income will vary greatly based on the work you are doing, how successful you are, how much work is available, and how many hours you choose to work.

We offer direct deposit or can send checks by mail, and checks are issued every other week to those who have invoiced for work completed.

We do not recommend that Agents count on this as a full-time job replacement. This is temporary project work, and is meant to provide supplemental income. As an independent contractor, you are able to take advantage of other opportunities while working with us, if you prefer to have something else to fall back on during slower periods.

What is litigation document coding?

Litigation document coding is the process of extracting bibliographic data from documents used in litigation and keying the data in a specific format. Our Remote Document Coders use a software program to view the images of the litigation documents on one side of their computer screen and enter the bibliographic data from the document into blank fields on the other side of their computer screen. Bibliographic data typically includes names from the document, dates on the document, etc.

What skills are needed to become a successful Independent Contractor with Cypher?

Cypher requires legal experience because familiarity with legal documents will help you understand our specific process. In addition to legal experience, attention to detail and the ability to receive, review and follow electronic instructions is crucial to your success at Cypher. Previous data entry experience is helpful, but not necessary in order to succeed.

Is there any cost involved in working with Cypher?

Cypher requires no payment from Independent Contractors in order to work with us. We simply ask for your time and effort.

What type of computer do I need to have?

An IBM-compatible computer with a Pentium or faster processor is required for the Remote Document Coding position.

What type of computer monitor do I need?

A monitor screen size of 19" or 21" is preferred. Due to the amount of data being displayed for each document on the screen, it is necessary to have, at minimum, a 17" monitor.

What kind of internet connection do I need?

Independent Contractors must have a high-speed internet connection in order for the images of the documents to download to their computers. High-speed connections include DSL, Cable Modem or Satellite connections. Dial-up connections are unacceptable.

Do I need an email account?

Since this position is a work from home opportunity, it's important for you to receive electronic communication from us. Your email is the primary method of communication we use to notify you of new projects, changes to projects, etc. Please be sure to add the domains "@cyphercoding.com" and "@cypherservicesinc.com" to your email safe list to guarantee receipt of messages that we send.

Do I need to download any software to my computer and will it cost me?

In order to code the legal documents that reside on our servers, Independent Contractors use a software program that is easily downloaded to their computers after submitting to our confidentiality agreement. The software program is free of charge, and downloads similarly to any other software program you may already have on your computer. You will be able to download the software program via a link emailed to you after submitting to our confidentiality agreement.

Do I need a printer?

A printer is necessary in order to have hard copies of our basic documents. Our Standard Coding Manual is a 50-page document that you will need to refer to often, so you must print it out at least once. Each project that you work on has specific client instructions and we require that you print these specifications out as well. These are typically 1 page documents.

How am I compensated?

Cypher compensates based on production. You receive compensation for each document that you code. The specific compensation varies per project, but we currently compensate anywhere from $0.11-$0.22/document depending on the amount of fields of data that are captured. A project with 8 coding fields will compensate more per document than a project with 4 coding fields of data. The compensation for a project is outlined in the project specifications that you view prior to working on the project. Our current Independent Contractors code about 50-60 documents per hour, therefore earning about $8.00-$10.00/hour. While you may code fewer documents per hour when you start coding with us, after a period of time your speed will increase and you'll be able to reach this goal. You are compensated on the 15th of the month for work that you complete the previous month. For example, you may receive a check on April 15th for work that you completed March 1 - March 31. Payment is made through a check mailed to your home address.

Can I work anytime of the day or night?

Projects are distributed during business hours (Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm CST), but generally projects are very large and last overnight and all through the weekend. We have had work available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for the past several months, but we cannot always guarantee work will be available every time that you have set aside to code. Cypher experiences peaks and valleys in production that can result in periods of time with little or no work available. As an Independent Contractor, you can work anytime you'd like and alter your work schedule to accommodate your family needs, education, or other jobs. As long as you code 15-20 hours per week, the actual time you decide to code is up to you.

About KeyForCash

What Is KeyForCash?

KeyForCash is a website that enables you to earn money by typing at home. We are in the business of data entry services, which means we have a lot of data that we need to be entered into computers. We show you the data, you type it in. It couldn’t be easier!

How do I sign up?

Because of overwhelming interest, we limit the number of people who work for us. You can join our waiting list now, and we will contact you when we need new workers.

Is KeyForCash legitimate?

Yes. But don’t take our word for it: since we started in 2001, we have never advertised, relying instead on word-of-mouth to attract new keyers. This means you heard about us from one of our existing keyers. They can tell you about us.

Does KeyForCash charge any fees?

No. KeyForCash is completely risk free. You will never need to pay us a dime. No commitment is required, either. You’re welcome to try out KeyForCash and quit if it’s not for you.

If you encounter anybody claiming to represent KeyForCash who wants to charge you a fee, they are not legitimate. Please tell us about it.

How much does KeyForCash pay? How much money can I make?

We pay by the quantity of work you complete, which means that the amount you make depends on your abilities. In addition, we may also offer different rates of pay at different times. You’ll get more details when you start keying for us.

The amount you make also depends on whether or not we have work available – there are some times of year that we have little work, and so your income from KeyForCash will be less during these times.

What are the hours?

You can work as much or as little as you want, at whatever time of day you want. You are completely in control. We regret that we cannot guarantee that work will be available 100% of the time, however. That is, there may be times that you are available to work, and we don’t have any work for you.

Can anybody join KeyForCash?

We have a few requirements. First you have to be at least 18 years old. You also have to be in one of the continental 48 states and legally able to work in the US. Other than these requirements, anyone can join. No experience is required.

Why the continental 48 states? Why not Alaska or Hawaii, or Canada or other countries?

This is a requirement that our customers have given to us. We are unable to make exceptions at this time. In the future, this might change (particularly for Alaska and Hawaii), so feel free to check back here for updates.

Who are your customers?

Our customers are people who pay us to help them with data entry. If you work for an organization that does a lot of data entry and want to learn how KeyForCash can help, please e-mail us and we would be happy to discuss our services with you.

What are the technical requirements?

You need a computer and an internet connection. You’ll also need the Macromedia Flash player installed on your computer. This is free, and you probably already have it installed. If not, we’ll help you install it when you first log in.

About the Waiting List

How long is the waiting list? How long should I expect to wait before I hear from you?

We have lots of interest from potential keyers, which is why we maintain a waiting list. The waiting time can vary significantly. Often, it can be months or more before we contact you. We encourage you to sign up anyway, however, because sometimes the wait can be much less. It depends entirely on how many keyers are needed at any given time.

If I’m invited to join KeyForCash, how will you contact me?

We will send you an e-mail when we invite you to join KeyForCash. If you have a spam filter, make sure to add info@keyforcash.com to your list of allowed senders or address book, since this is the email address we use to contact you.

Should I e-mail you my resume or other information?

No. KeyForCash is so easy that we don’t require any experience. If you have data entry experience, that’s great because you may be more productive and earn more, but you don’t need to send us a resume.

I signed up a long time ago, and never heard from you? Do I need to sign up again?

No.

SpeakWrite is currently hiring legal and general typists throughout the United States and Canada to work as independent contractors from their own homes.

SpeakWrite typists are qualified legal or general transcriptionists who contract with us to receive transcription work to complete from their own home, on their own schedule. You can apply for the work on-line, and upon approval of your application and the completion of the required testing, you will be given a software which acts as a "key" which allows you to access the work. You may then sign into our system, pick up work from our clients, then upload your finished transcriptions to our system via the Internet.

All SpeakWrite typists must be comfortable operating and maintaining their own computer and software, and have a minimum typing speed of 65 wpm. They are committed to maintaining and meeting work schedules, and consistently produce a quality product through attention to detail and an acute focus on work.

Have at least 24 months of increasingly responsible legal work in a law firm, not more than five years previous to the date of application.
Have specific experience in and a good working knowledge of the set up of legal pleadings, agreements, court headings, interrogatories, deposition summaries, formal correspondence, etc.
Have a good working knowledge of the proper format of legal citations.

Have at least 24 months of intensive word processing or transcription experience, not more than five years previous to the date of application. (General office experience, data entry experience, accounting experience, etc. are not sufficient.)
Have specific experience in and a good working knowledge of the set up of formal correspondence, reports, etc.
