Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago,
And our nation was the most prosperous in the world.
We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.

What happened? Can you spell ‘politicians!’

And I still have to ‘press 1 ; ;for English.

Best answer:

Answer by justagrandma
Or maybe you can spell science, or maybe war machines.
Mom, by the way was working in the factory, or doing piece work at home, for a pittance and putting in twelve hour days, with no vacation or sick pay either, and no recourse if the boss made a pass and she wanted her virtue intact and he fired her for someone more compliant.
If Dad got hurt on the job, the family began its downward descent. I’m afraid you have a rather romantic version of what the average family was like one hundred years ago.
Men, for instance had a life expectancy of 47 in 1900.
Women, less, childbearing could kill back then, what with postpartum infections and no penicillin on the horizon, it would come almost fifty years later.
Life wasn’t the picnic you imply, most of your taxes (or fees if you are a Republican) are for things like telephones, vehicles, boats and that weren’t within the ability of the vast majority of people to afford.
The rest, pretty much became necessary as our world became more complicated and better records needed to be kept, some of them like building permits, because of poor practices by unscrupulous builders that led to dangerous conditions, some one had to pay to monitor them so people didn’t die in poorly built buildings.
They old days weren’t so rosy for the majority of people, but they were great days for the last of the robber barons and their cohorts.

I have been on W/C now for 3 1/2 years. . I was seen by the company doctor which is who performed my 1st surgery. This doctor removed a bone from my thumb then stitched me up.While recovering I noticed that my thumb didn’t look right. Come to find out through a new doctor, the 1st doctor didn’t attach my thumb back to my hand. This required a 2nd surgery which was a over a year from the first surgery. By then carpal tunnel was present in my right hand. Surgery was required about 1 year after my 2nd surg. I just found out that my employeer was sold in Jan 2006. My attorney requested that I send a letter and asked that someone reply within 5 working day of my request. I received a call from the CEO. She informed me of the take over and said that the new owners terminated all the employees and then rehired back the ones they wanted, and notifed the ones they did not want to rehire. No one ever contacted me can they terminate you without notice?

Question by Chokka L: Got a notice from CA Franchise tax board and messed up with the option to reply?
Hi,
I got a CA franchise tax board notice for the year 2005. I was not a resident of CA for the whole year 2005. The address I put on 1040 form belong to my employer who was in CA. I was a resident of Texas for the year 2005 and I filed the federal promptly.

But when I’m replying the notice online, by mistake I chose the option “My attorney was there in the address given” instead of “other” option.
The thing was I couldnt explain the reason. Once I chose the attorney option, it said the case has been resolved.
Adding insult to the injury, I failed to print the confirmation from the fab.ca.gov website.

Will there be any further communication on this one, since I chose the option attorney. If so, would I get a chance to explain it to them.

Share your thoughts/opinions.

Best answer:

Answer by plain jane
Maybe. Just wait but don’t worry about it. Just in case, IF you think you CA any money, put it aside. If they haven’t contacted you in the next 2 years, I’d forget about it. All they’re probably looking for is some income tax you might owe them .. your explanation is not very detailed. Good luck.

Question by Disneyland fan: What does it mean when the Social Security Office requests worker’s comp info, after you’ve had a hearing?
I recently had a social security hearing in front of the judge. According to my attorney it went well. The voc rehab said there was no job for me, do to my injuries. Now 3 weeks later, I get a letter from the SS office requesting any info on my worker’s comp payments. What does this mean or sound like to someone who has been through this?

Best answer:

Answer by greyeagle
What they can deduct from workman comp, that you have already received because ssi will more than likely start before you get regular ss and they will deduct any money received by any source including workmans comp! This is only what I have experienced so don’t cut my answer in stone! Good luck!

Question by ksf: refusal of service to a previous employee… PLEASE I NEED OPINIONS?
pittsburgh, pa

i was a server at a resturaunt in pittsburgh, pa and recently quit my job there. basically, today i went in to hand them a bill for my workers comp because i got hurt on the job about a week or so prior to quitting. gave it to the girl at the host stand because the GM wasnt there. a bunch of my friends came over to hug me but then one of the ASST MGRS came up to me and told me i wasnt ever allowed in there ever again because i no called no showed. but i DID go in and then quit once i was done working. it doesnt make sense to me because before we start we have to sign a form saying they are allowed to terminate at anytime without reasoning and vice versa. is that right to not allow someone in anymore just because they quit?? and should they still pay the bill from my med care because my injury happened on the job while i was currently still an employee there?!?!

sorry if this is a silly question but i just want to know if it is just or not because i go there quite frequently and find it very wrong them refusing my service. i did nothing wrong.. if anything they did for treating the employees unjust thus why they have such a high turnover rate. thank you for the help/ opinions!!!!!! )

Question by BREKAY: Should I consult an attorney or should I just let it go or should I go off.?
My son fell off a slide 3 ft in the air and neither one of his teachers seen the acident and they didn’t bother to call an ambulance although anyone who nows anything about first aide knows you do not move a person if they have a head injury which he landed on his head, and shoulders. The school did call me and I took my son to the emergency room. Right now I am pretty up set and am debating on what to say because I don’t want to blow up but I would like some suggestions on what to do. I have asked a few close friends but I think they where just saying what they thought I wanted to hear. Or what they felt would be some excitement for them.

Question by nickname: whats wrong with my shoulder?
about a month ago i noticed some pain in my right shoulder after puting a product order away at work. i didn’t think much of it other than i must have pulled something. it didn’t bother me too much until about 2 weeks ago. the last couple of weeks i’ve noticed a consistant, ache i guess, in the front of my shoulder. the ache itself isn’t “painful” but more of an annoyance. when i move my arm around i notice a pain with forward and backward motions. moving it out doesn’t seem to bother it much.

sometimes i have problems sleeping, i either can’t fall asleep or can’t stay asleep because i have to stay stationary throughout the night. i’ve been taking anti inflammatories but they don’t seem to do very much. i’m not out looking for pain meds, i just want this annoyance to be gone.

my work knows that its bothering me but i can’t really afford to ask for a lighter work load. so for the time being, i’m still doing a lot of repetitive motions and a ton of lifting.

i’m 19 and young, i don’t want to just keep waiting and risk damaging my shoulder but i also don’t want the workers comp company to put me on light duty (resulting in cut hours). does this seem like something to go to a doctor for or is it just a pulled muscle?
cool thanks for answering. i work at a pizza place too lol.

Best answer:

Answer by ~just me~
I know you really don’t want to hear it, but you need to rest that shoulder. your health should always come first. Let em know what’s up, I know i get hesitant at work myself, I ended up injuring my back by caring 50lb bags of dough to the cooler(pizza place) It sucks! I still have the pain and it was days ago, but i told my shift manager and i haven’t had to go on worker’s comp and but they were considerate and they have someone else carry the heavy shit till im cool.
Rest is necessary if you want it to heal properly, try to get good sleep, soak it in a hot tub, and take a couple ibuprofen here and there, just don’t over do it.

Question by Grover Roxbury: Will Trent Green battle Marc Bulger for the 1st string spot on the Rams?
Marc Bulger looked really bad in the preseason game against Tennesee. I think Green still had competable skills, alot of people think hes done, but I think hes still got alot to offer. With Bulgers injury pron track record, and Scott Linehans must win mode (or hes likely be fired) and Trent Greens connections to Al Saunders, will Trent Green win the starting role in St. Louis?

Best answer:

Answer by packersfaninla
Marc Bulger is not near as good as he used to be, but I think he will win the starting job, due to his reputation in St. Louis.

That being said, he’s very injury prone, so that will allow Green to prove himself and in that time he will probably wrest the spot from Bulger, I think.

What do you think? Answer below!
