Recognize generational influences and the resulting workplace behavior of each generation.

COMMUNICATING IN A MULTI-GENERATIONAL WORKPLACE

Learn how to deliver important company information and supervisory direction in ways that reach and resonate for each generational cohort.

LEADING THROUGH THE GENERATIONAL LENS

Consider how generational experiences influence the way we lead and what we want from our leaders.

ENSURING SUCCESSFUL MILLENNIALS

Learn to mentor and ensure their success in your workplace. Consider and practice actions most likely to encourage this newest workplace generation to come, stay, and contribute their best to your organization.

Navigen Leadership and Pelorus Leadership Group look forward to helping you navigate a workplace in which find ourselves re-thinking how work will get done, how information will be communicated and how employee engagement will be secured. Discover how each generation’s experiences and influences have shaped how they can and will best contribute to today’s organizations.

This weekend I found myself re-reading Morgan W. McCall Jr.’s book High Flyers: Developing the Next Generation of Leaders.

In the preface he states that “…there is apparantly a widespread and fundamental need to believe that a single (and usually short) list of generic qualities can be used to describe all effective leaders and that these qualities are relatively stable over the course of a person’s career. “ McCall states that this is inconsistent with what he has learned about how executives develop.

What do you think? Is there a generic list? If so what are some of the qualities you think are on that list?

Pelorus Leadership Group, Inc. and Navigen Leadership, LLC are working together to create the series: Navigating in a Multi-Generational Workplace. The twelve three hour programs in this series will cover such topics as an overview of generational influences and workplace behavior, ways to reconcile generational clash points, how to communicate so each generation gets the message, how to co-mentor so all learn from each other and how to lead effectively in a multi- generational workplace.

Courses will also address each generation’s unique expectations, desires and challenges as they relate to onboarding, motivation and engagement, securing peak performance, career advancement and retention.

There will also be courses specifically for Millennials to help them understand why others have misconceptions about them and how they can be successful in a multi-generational workplace where others may not fully understand or accept their views on work.

For more information or to schedule a program for your organization email Mark@Peloruslead.com or call us at 727.302.9170.

It is not just education’s task, the government’ role, a parent’s duty or the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that current and future workers are capable. It is also a task, role, duty and responsibility of company leadership to recognize and participate in the resolution of issues that can prevent us from having a world class workforce.

On July 21,2009, at the Central Florida Human Resources Association meeting, Kathy Davanzo, SPHR, President of Pelorus Leadership Group, Inc. will lead a review of the trends and information we should be watching as we consider how work will change in our organizations and what that means for recruiting, supervision, leadership, and training as we look at our short and long term skill and knowledge requirement and our ability to meet those requirements.

During a recent presentation to a group of HR professional I shared Harriet Hankin’s statement from her book The New Workforce. She wrote: “There will be a shortage of 40,000 principals by 2005. Schools are hiring MBAs rather than MAs in Education.”

My question to the group and my question to you is how might a principal with an MBA differ from a principal with an MA in Education? How might this different perspective change how the work of education gets done?

Several members of the audience shared that they too are looking at nontraditional applicants for a variety of jobs. The way work gets done is changing as a result of this. On the other hand the changes in the way work gets done also allow us to look at nontraditional applicants as the skill sets we require are shifting. A classic chicken or the egg.

Organizations are working hard to find people who have transferable experiences if not the experiences they traditionally seek.

Is your workplace being effected by nontraditional hires? How and why?
