This is an inspiring story of the birth and development of what has become known as the hearing voices approach. ‘Mentored Self-Help: A Promising Approach to Exploring Voices’ is a very interesting, newly published paper…

The paper explores voice-hearing experiences in the context of a mentored self-help approach to coping that used the workbook Working With Voices (Coleman & Smith, 1997) with the support of a trusted other or mentor. Casstevens, Cohen, Newman & Dumaine (2006) found that a Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS) factor of anxious depression improved significantly post-workbook completion relative to a comparison group, although BPRS global psychopathology scores did not change significantly (n 527). Further exploration of available voice-hearing data was indicated, and the present study examined Topography of Voices Rating Scale (TVRS) scores and participant-reported stressors…

Making Recovery Happen – Creating Recovery Champions – 2013

After the great success of this course last year next to our home on the beautiful Isle of Lewis in the Western Isles, Scotland, we are pleased to announce we will be running it again in May 2013.

This one week course will be residential with all meals included. Hearing Voices Information Resource Pack Fund

The Hearing Voices Information Resource Pack Fund has been established by Hywel Davies and the Hearing Voices Network Cymru (Wales), the objective is to help develop knowledge of the approach, work and research of the international hearing voices movement.

The fund will provide a pack of books and DVDs on the subject of hearing voices and related topics that will be made available if the application is successful at no charge.

The pack will be made available to existing hearing voices groups, newly formed groups and groups at the planning stage.

Working To Recovery Mental Health Recovery Mentoring and Support Service

We want to to let you know about a new service we have developed which we believe will offer significant additional support in helping to further develop recovery practice within and across mental health services.

Through our work with many different kinds of mental health services internationally, we have identified a significant need for external ongoing support and advice for service users, workers and managers. The recovery approach is an innovative way of working and services seeking to introduce this way of working are often isolated and working within more traditional service structures.

We intend to meet this need by providing a mentoring support service that aims to assist services and individuals in their work of supporting individual recovery journeys. This includes embedding and further developing the practical implementation of recovery orientated services.
