During a hand safety class, a long time employee stood up and explained in detail how his hand had gotten caught in a press ten years ago and exactly how his hand looked with two of his fingers hanging loosely by his wrist. He talked about what went through his mind as he went to the hospital and thought about what he would tell his wife and kids. He knew the accident was his fault and now he might not be able to do his job anymore.

This story is not meant to upset anyone but to show you how a story can be a powerful opening to a safety training class. Today's podcast talks about using stories to get the safety message across and why stories are so effective.
