Police say a man with a knife raced through the parking lot just after 3:00 p.m.. Witnesses say the man chased a delivery driver and others, but was killed when he tried to lunge his knife at one driver leaving the parking lot. The driver pulled a gun and killed his attacker on the spot.

Results from Rasmussen’s national telephone survey found that 69 percent of the respondents say cities have no right to ban legal handgun ownership, while 25 percent believe cities can ban guns.
We do however have at least one documented example in Kennesaw GA where a crew of armed thugs decided NOT to commit armed robbery in a waffle house because the thug who went in to scout the place before the crime saw Matt Brannan and J.P. Mitchell openly carrying their firearms. You can listen to Mark Walters of USCCA's Armed American Radio interview Matt Brannan and J.P. Mitchell for more details on the event. Over the years I have also heard multiple first hand accounts of possible criminals who seemed determined to commit a crime as they approached their potential victims, but suddenly turned away when they noticed a holstered firearm.

We should all support Bill Hunt's campaign for Orange County Sheriff. Mr. Hunt supports a shall-issue concealed carry permit system and posted the following response to my question about UOC: "It's legal and I am for it. I believe it is the responsibility of the Sheriff to protect the right of law abiding citizens to keep and bear arms. I believe the law does not go far enough in that if you are allowed to open carry, you should be allowed to do so with the firearm loaded. Even those justices who don't like the Heller decision don't want to rock the boat on due process incorporation, preferring to come up with a narrower definition of the right for the states.
I honestly hope Scalia was kidding about not protecting concealed carry. It’s the only form of 2nd Amendment exercise that’s relevant in day to day life for the vast majority of Americans. To take that away from the 2nd Amendment is to render it meaningless as a practical and meaningful right. A right is not a right if it’s only allowed as a weekend hobby and/or only fully enjoyable by agorophobes.

On February 22, a new law took effect that applied state firearms laws to national parks and wildlife refuges across America. The implementation of the new law, which the National Park Service (NPS) has planned for since passage of H.R. 627 last May, has so far been without major problems. NPS management reports that it has worked with the 493 individual parks, promoting a consistent message on several key points:
This last point—and especially the definition of "federal facility"—may be the one most likely to cause confusion for visitors. The National Park Service has indicated that, according to its apparently broad interpretation of the law, the law prohibits firearms not only in buildings (such as visitor centers, ranger stations, and administrative offices) but also in other areas that are regularly staffed by federal employees (such as developed caves and gated outdoor performance areas). However, NPS officials stress that all prohibited locations will be marked with signs. The ban on carry in "federal facilities" does not apply to buildings that are located in parks, but not staffed by the federal government—such as many restaurants, lodges and gift shops. However, private operators of those places are free to make their own rules subject to state law. Needless to say, anti-gun activists and the media have redlined their hysteria meters, with one newspaper claiming that "there assuredly will be more gun violence" in parks, and another suggesting that park visitors "might want to toss a Kevlar vest into the SUV." And the Brady Campaign is still looking for ways to use the courts to reverse the new law. Needless to say, media fears are unlikely to be realized, and NRA-ILA will fight any effort to reverse this hard-won victory.
