BUGATTI VEYRON COUPE PRODUCTION FINISHED - BUT PLENTY OF GS MODELS TO COME

2011-09-05T03:12:00.000-07:00

Seven years after the first Bugatti Veyron Coupe was purchased by a car freak equipped with a brain-meltingly large wallet, the final one rolled off the dedicated production line at Bugatti just a few weeks ago.

In total, 300 of the 987bhp hypercar were made by the time production stopped on June 27, so if you are after one now you are going to have to go to one of the existing owners and make them a decent offer - or maybe an offer they can’t refuse.

End of an era

The final Bugatti Veyron was ordered by an unnamed European customer, marking an end to the triumphant reign of this supercar, making it a worthy successor to classic Bugattis of old, and definitely one of the most valuable cars ever created.

Production continues

Still, the Veyron story isn’t over yet, as the Grand Sport GS convertible remains in production. So if you want to drive at 360 km/h (224 mph) with the wind streaming past your ears, now’s your chance, as Bugatti won’t stop making them until the 150-car sales target is reached.

Wide choice

In the model world, there is no similar shortage of availability - Veyrons are, if not exactly a dime a dozen, then not too pricey for most pockets either. Even so, the choice lies in the diecast arena, rather than with kits, and prices range from as high as $1000USD (£560GBP), all the way down to an easy on the pocket $4.90USD (£2.99GBP) for a finger-length Siku offering in black/red or silver/blue.

Superdetail Veyron

That top-price Veyron is an Artoart 1:12 scale model, finished in a very handsome pearl and ice blue colour scheme. There are 518 components, including all the usual details such as photo-etch sections, wiring loom, extending air brake, exposed engine, plus various opening sections including the twin doors. As you might expect at this price, interior detail is truly excellent. Regarding that price, don’t forget to shop around, as there are cheaper suppliers out there.

Man drinks gasoline for 42 years

2011-07-18T05:18:00.000-07:00

Gasoline powers vehicles all around the world, but a sick Chinese man has been drinking the sticky liquid for 42 years under the illusion that it can relieve his physical pain.

Chen Dejun, 71, lives by himself in shabby thatched cottage on a hill in Shuijiang township, Nanchuan district of southwest China's Chongqing municipality. The short and bony man said he drinks 3 to 3.5 kilograms of gasoline every month, which he buys from a station at the foot of the hill.

Chen is known locally as a stonecutter and master of weaving bamboo with a good business sense. But he’s also known for his undying love of drinking gasoline.

He developed the habit back in 1969 when he suddenly began coughing and felt pain in his chest. Seeing no progress after trying some medicine, he took up the folk remedy of drinking kerosene, Chongqing Evening News reported.

It turned out to be helpful for him after the first sip, and he since became addicted to kerosene. Then he moved on to gasoline.

Chen said it is hard to calculate exactly how much gasoline he has swallowed throughout his life, but the newspaper reported Chen has consumed an estimated 1.5 tons over the past 42 years.

Chen's wife Yuan Huibi and their three sons tried many times to stop Chen's addiction to gasoline, but those efforts only made the family relations tense. Eight years ago Chen moved to the cottage to live alone.

Sources from Honglou Hospital in Chongqing said Chen‘s health is fine despite having symptoms of emphysema. Chen refused to receive free check ups from the hospital.

Feng Fu, an associate professor with the Second Hospital Affiliated to Chongqing Medical University, said Chen may have developed some resistance to gasoline. Otherwise, Feng said, it would be impossible for Chen to live. Feng also said gasoline may only work as anaesthetic for Chen but can’t cure his pain.

Most Expensive Home Security System

2011-07-16T07:21:00.001-07:00

There are a variety of ways to determine which security system is the Most Expensive Security System. It all depends on what your definition of expensive is. There is the absolutely most expensive home security system in the world, the most expensive upfront cost of a regular home security system or the most expensive monthly service payments.

The Absolute Most Expensive Home Security System in the World

It is not much of a surprise that the most expensive home security system in installed in the most expensive house in the world, Updown Court located in the village of Windlesham in Surrey, 45 kilometers from central London.

No one will provide a quote on how much the Most Expensive Home Security System is worth, but they do mention that it is a “state-of-the-art security system and a panic room against terrorist attacks.” When all aspects of security are taken into account: one of the most technologically advanced home security systems with security guards, it can easily be assumed that the security investment on a £700 million house would fall into the category of most expensive home security system.

The Most Expensive Upfront Cost of a Home Security System

In 2010 the most expensive home security system on the market, may be one on eBay for $3,000 US. This system is an 8 wireless camera set, with a DVR recorder. Google shopping may show you the Clover Indoor/ Outdoor 16 Camera Security System that sells for $4,000 US. Both of these systems are Do-it-Yourself Systems, so be prepared to figure out how to install it yourself or hire specialists to do the entire installation for you.

If you are looking for a company to install the system for you, do the monitoring and generally take the work out of your hands then one with a higher than normal upfront cost may be an option. Ingrid Home Security charges $300 upfront for 8 sensors. However Ingrid only charges a $29.99 monthly monitoring fee with no contracts. Although Ingrid has the most expensive home security system upfront investment, it is one of the best prices for long term security.

The Most Expensive Monthly Service Options for a Home Security System

According to the top Home Security System Reviews, Brinks has the potential to have the highest monthly service pricing, making it one of the most expensive home security systems. Brinks has been long known as an industry leader when it comes to business and home security as well as armored vehicles and more.Brinks most expensive home security system includes an upfront cost of only $155 for 3 sensors plus a $31.99 monthly fee for monitoring services. However many homes especially large ones need more than 3 sensors, bringing the price up. Brinks also offers a wide variety of other home security options which can raise your monthly payments a little with each add-on. Brinks 3 year contract minimum also ensures you are locked into automatic monthly payments for good length of time. If you are looking to invest in the most expensive home security system then Brinks just may be the choice you are looking for.

How do you find the Most Expensive Home Security System?

Brinks and Ingrid Home Security Systems are typical for middle-class and upper middle-class homes. But, what about the really big homes – like Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous type homes? Who has the most expensive home security system? First off, many of these homes do not use systems that are marketed as ‘Home Security Systems’ they use Commercial Security Systems – the same kind that Corporations and Banks use.

Companies such as Arcadia, ADT and Guardian are well known for providing superior commercial security systems. When calculating the most expensive home security system one would have to look at all possible factors such as: Technologically advanced Commercial Security System, high security construction, fencing, guard dogs, ground sensors, lasers and more. Many homes of high profile people have extravagant home security systems which include all of these factors and then some that have not been released to the public sector.

When Security is important, the most expensive home security system no longer is a factor. Unfortunately, whereas we are speaking about security here, there is no way to know for certain, how expensive specific security systems are worth, because no one is bragging about what they have in place. The less intruders know and can find out the better.

World's Most Expensive Hotels

2011-07-16T07:19:00.000-07:00

When we go on holiday it’s a great opportunity to treat ourselves to some real indulgence and relaxation and to pull out all of the stops in order to make it a perfect experience.

However some of us take this farther than others and if you look at some of the world’s most expensive hotel suits you’ll realise that truly ‘pulling out all the stops’ can be as extravagant as you want it to be. Here we’ll look at some of the world’s most expensive hotel suits and rooms to get an idea of what real luxury and extravagance is and do a bit of vicarious living. Perhaps at the same time you might feel a little less guilty about spending a lot on a five star hotel for your holiday.

Bear in mind that of course prices will vary depending on currency, time of year and various other factors and that new hotels are opening up all the time. However this selection of the world’s most expensive hotel suites should all be considered the ‘heavy hitters’ and one potentially the world’s most expensive hotel.

The Atlantis:
The Atlantis is reportedly the world’s most expensive hotel with its Atlantis Bridge suit as its crowning jewel and officially the world’s most expensive hotel suite at $25,000-$37,000 for a night. Just think, that’s one million dollars for just three of four days at the hotel!
So what makes this the world’s most expensive hotel? Well first off it has a great location being at the top of a large bridge connecting the Royal Tower buildings giving it a view over the whole area and an exciting ‘suspended’ feel. Of course you get more than just a single room for the world’s most expensive hotel suit too and instead get ten rooms adorned with gold and even your own butler to run errands and fetch drinks and a cook to cook you up meals on request. The rooms also have 12 foot high ceilings and include an ‘entertainment center’ as well as a bar to ensure you never have to leave the suit.

Hotel Cala di Volpe:
Hotel Cala di Volpe in Italy is another option that some report as the world’s most expensive hotel with price estimates from around $27-$36 thousand. For this you get only three bedrooms (with three bathrooms) but on the plus side you also get an outdoors pool (salt water) and your own solarium and gazebo. Amusingly it is reported that this contender for the world’s most expensive hotel still charges visitors for its internet access however!

The President Wilson Hotel:
Meanwhile the world’s most expensive hotel generally considered just behind the Atlantis and Hotel Cala di Volpe at $23,000-$35,000 per night, is the President Wilson Hotel. Here the Imperial Suite, which takes up the entire top floor, is not only incredibly luxurious, but also incredibly secure with bullet proof windows and doors and armed guards making perfect for politicians and celebrities visiting Geneva.
As you’d expect from what’s nearly the world’s most expensive hotel, this suit is decorated largely in marble and hardwood and comes with its own study, library, billiards table and cocktail lounge and five bathrooms – one of which includes a Jacuzzi and steam room which is something even the world’s most expensive hotel can boast. This means no getting bored and no queuing for the bathroom… though that said, as the suit can accommodate forty people at once this makes it a little more likely. That also means that what would be near-enough the world’s most expensive hotel becomes a lot more affordable.

Grand Resort Lagonissi:
Another one of the world’s most expensive hotel suits is the Royal Villa at the Grand Resort Lagonissi in Greece. Another three bedroom suit, this one makes up for its lofty pricing withthree swimming pools (indoor and outdoor) as well as a see view through a huge sliding door as well as a private chef, butler - and a first on our list of the world’s most expensive hotel suits – it’s own pianist! For all this you can expect to pay similarly high prices at around $20,000-$34,000.

Park Hyatt Vendome:
Being fans of luxury, it is no surprise that the French would want to have a contender for the world’s most expensive hotel in their capital city. The Park Hyatt Vendome is just that at around $20,000 per night and featuring shockingly high ceilings, rows of pillars and a spa suit in its Imperial Suite. Not quite the world’s most expensive hotel, but not too shabby either!
