The Slovakian company Aeromobil has already proven the merit of their concept many times over, with several working prototypes of flying cars. A final, consumer ready product has been promised by 2017.
Before that time, the vehicle has to pass safety tests for both the road and the sky. Potential drivers should be warned; this

flying car will require both a pilot’s and a driver’s license, and is likely to cost several hundred thousand dollars.

While the first rumors begin to arrive about the environmental performances of the GOLF 7 BLUEMOTION, here is an echo of what we can read on the web, report that allows us to present the first images of the Golf 7.

From its 1.6TDI engine, the new Golf Bluemotion should succeed to offer emissions of

85g/km with a fuel economy rated to 88mpg (UK), less than 3 l/100km, partly thanks a drag coefficient optimized to 0.274 (close to the 0.25 of the Prius).

These figures are credible as Kia, Hyundai and Peugeot already reached those emission levels, which you can find in our guide of cars at 85g/Km

Note however the larger dimensions of the Golf belonging more o the C Segment than the B taking therefore a step ahead in terms of emissions.

Official reveal of the Golf 2013 is expected shortly before the Paris Motor Show, on Sept. 4 in Berlin.

Concept Cars: Paulin VR Concept

The VR concept is a proposal for a 2012 sports car from Swedish design firm Paulin Motor Company, led by former Ford designer Daniel Paulin.

Paulin is a company which attempts to predict the future design direction of vehicles, and the VR Concept is the first of their designs. A "precision crafted performance car" which blends

sculptured surfaces and clean graphics. The Paulin VR Concept is "about simplicity and functionality in true Scandinavian fashion."

The Paulin VR Concept is laid out around a 2-seat, front engine configuration. Among the most striking visible features are the wheel surrounds both front and rear which are a different color to the rest of the body, and an expansive glass fighter-jet style canopy which opens in a dramatic manner, the windscreen lifts up and forward and the doors open in a scissor-like manner to enable entry.

Other less noticeable yet novel features of the Paulin VR Concept include the two-part retractable rear spoiler with adjustable downforce which when not in use hides neatly into the rear bodywork, and rearview external cameras positioned above the rear arches replacing the side mirrors - the display is positioned above the instrument panel.

During the development of the VR Concept Paulin worked with another Swedish company, Opticore, who provided the visual tools to display the concept to such a high level of detail without the need for scale models.

Presented at the Umeå Institute of Design 2012 Degree Show, the Audi Elite by Eric Leong is a futuristic single seater vehicle with an original control system based on the driver’s body movements.

With his Audi Elite Concept, Eric Leong aimed at underlining the connection between man and machine and bringing back full control to the driver – a concept somewhat against the current trends, which see the development of autonomous vehicles.

Through a complex mechanical system, the driver can control the vehicle moving and rotating his/her hands, arms, feet, legs and body.

The system also integrates an advanced learning platform with motion sensors: as the user gets better, different aero panels on the car can be manually manipulated to provide greater challenge and more precise control and speed and vehicle upgrades are made available.

The design enhances the strong link between the driver and the vehicle by adopting an essential, motorcycle-like approach. The surfacing is characterized by a clean, technical look influenced by modern product and industrial design, while the original control system was inspired by advanced interface in the videogames and interaction industries.

The main design features such as the new form of controls were fabricated as full scale mock-ups, to test and validate function and ergonomics.

The Elite project was officially sponsored by Audi, and Eric’s mentor was Klemens Rossnagel, Head of Concept Design Munich.

The MINI Rocketman Concept Car

BMW’s MINI is one of the most successful brand resurrections of the last decade. Since the latest generation of vehicles was introduced in 2000, the new MINI has taken up the reigns of an iconic design dating back to 1959. The latest MINI concept has debuted at the Geneva Auto Show this week and has

already captivated MINI fans.

The MINI Rocketman is unmistakably a MINI- drawing on the design language of current models, but mixes hints of MINI’s decades-old predecessors with cutting-edge technology of tomorrow.

It could be called a mini MINI, at just over 11 feet long. This is approaching the size of the original 10-foot long Mini of the 1960’s In order to maximize interior space while maintaining a modern crashworthy design, the seating arrangement is 3+1, meaning three full seats and a smaller convertible jumpseat behind the driver.

The Rocketman is an urban car, with the full compliment of bells and whistles one would expect from a modern vehicle. The interior is stuffed full of color-changing LED illumination- which opens up new possibilities in user interface with the car’s control systems. It may also give one the impression of driving a spaceship. (or a disco hall?) Part of the interior lightshow is provided by the illumination strips embedded in the transparent roof. In keeping with MINI styling, the roof is illuminated in the shape of the British Union Jack flag. And yes, the MINI-hallmark gigantic central speedometer is still there, albeit as a smart display interface for the car’s control and entertainment functions.

No new concept would be complete without some technological innovation. The Rocketman utilizes a carbon-fiber frame to provide a structural platform with a substantial weight savings. This innovation alone could be responsible for a targeted 94 mpg (3 l per 100 km) efficiency. (No other details are given for the drivetrain). The carbon fiber frame is exposed as a design element in exterior areas such as the front grille and wheelwells, and is also visible within the interior.

An unmistakable feature is the two-part door design. Meant for opening in tight spaces, the double pivots allow for comfortable egress without smacking into the car in the next space. (Despite the fact that the car in the next space probably doesn’t have this feature.) The stiffness of the carbon frame allow for large door openings and easier access to all interior seating.

The rear hatch is also unique. Split in two pieces, the overhead glass element pivots high and takes part of the roof with it. (also following the pattern of the Union Jack on the roof). The lower section acts as drawer, moving horizontally outward.

In keeping with MINIs of the last decade and before, the Rocketman evokes the fun of driving with a mind for useful design. While no production plans have been given by MINI, the concept looks right at home in the MINI line-up. This is one to watch.

The design concept takes inspiration cues from many of our favorite V12 Lambos including the Countach, Muira, Aventador, and the extremely limited Reventon. The great thing about turbos is that when not asked to make additional power, they loaf along rather

innocuously, exacting little to no penalty in fuel economy. So in these times of ever-tightening CAFE and emissions standards, automakers are starting to embrace smaller-displacement turbocharged engines that rival the power of their brawnier non-turbo forebears, yet sip fuel instead of making rude slurping sounds at the pump.

Two such examples of the trend are the all-new BMW 328i, a slightly larger yet slightly lighter 3 Series with a 2.0-liter four making 240 bhp; and the Mercedes-Benz C250 Sport, cosmetically refreshed for 2012 and fitted with a 1.8-liter powerplant rated at 201 bhp. As for transmissions, the Mercedes-built 7-speed 7G-tronic Plus automatic is the C250 Sport’s sole gearbox, making the BMW’s new ZF 8HP45 8-speed automatic a natural fit for comparison purposes, though a 6-speed manual is standard. We actually welcomed these 2-pedal sports sedans, as many times a turbocharged engine paired with an automatic is like a mustard-slathered corn dog at the county fair…it just seems right. The torque converters tend to mask tip-in turbo lag, and the automatic’s no-lift shifts minimize turbo rpm drop-off for a virtually uninterrupted flow of power through the gears.

This all sounds good on paper, but how about in real-world execution? To find out, we drove to the quaint gold rush town of Julian, California, a place that offers Zagat-worthy apple pie and small-town charm as well as close proximity to great driving roads. For two days, we cornered, braked, transitioned, accelerated; we pondered the cars’ subtleties, argued their merits and scrutinized their weaknesses. Finally, we subjected them to our usual battery of instrumented tests. Here’s what we found.

HONDA CONCEPT-C (IMAGES) - Honda has revealed two new concept cars at the Beijing motor show. The Honda Concept C previews a new budget saloon for the Chinese market.

The Concept C, the C standing for “cool, challenge and China”, features angular styling inspired by a dragon. Honda’s operations in China completely led the product planning for the car, while the styling was a collaborative between Honda’s Chinese and Japanese design houses.

A production version of the Concept C is expected to be launched next year solely for the Chinese market.

The Land Rover DC100, a modern interpretation of the iconic Land Rover Defender debuts at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show.

Land Rover also confirms today, that production of a new Defender is intended for 2015.

Rimac Concept One: updates

At Top Marques di Monaco Rimac has presented an evolved version of the Concept One. The electric supercar will be produced in a limited series of 88 units with a price of 740K Euros.

The Rimac Concept One was first introduced at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show and is powered by four in-wheel electric motors, which deliver a total output of 1,088 HP and a torque of 1,600 Nm.

Projected performance figures are a 0-100 km/h sprint in 2.8 seconds and a top speed limited to 305 km/h, while the 92 kWh battery allows for a range of up to 600 km.

Rimac Automobili has started taking reservations and deposits for the production version of the Concept One, which will be built in 88 units, each with a price of about $980,000/€740,000.
