With these cards users will be able to boost GPU voltages via the SmartDoctor application and enjoy up to 15% in performance improvement.

"Gaming has been the segment which has made the graphics card industry more challenging and has helped to raise the performance bar for graphics cards. At Asus we take pleasure in providing state of art technology that evolves with every new chipset, " said Vinay Shetty - Country Head - Component Product, Asus (India) on the launch of this latest graphics card from Asus. He further added, "By launching the EAH 4890, Asus offers a unique Voltage Tweak technology which raises GPU voltages from 1.312V to 1.4V in Asus EAH4890/HTDI/1GD5, allowing GPU and memory clock performances to be boosted from 850MHz to 950MHz and 3900MHz to 4600MHz respectively."

Concept Mobiles That Should and Shouldn't Become a Reality

2009-04-06T00:34:00.000+05:30

We know the various kinds of mobile handset form factors from the Candy-bars to the Slide out QWERTY. We also know that the latest and possible future trend is of course, touch technology and the race is on to see which handset will take that technology to the next level. One of my favorite sites, Yanko Design, has a group of individuals who design concept technology and other things and they’ve come with ideas that could seriously rock the market... if they ever made it to production of course.

While researching for an article on my favorite concept phones, I did come across a few that should have stayed in their minds and never made it out. With all due respect to the designers (and there’s plenty of that) here are my choices for handsets that I’d love to see make it to production someday. While these futuristic buggers look like something we should and could see in the future there are those I hope, never make it past this concept stage. For your amusement I’ve listed some of those as well.

The Super-Green Big-Rig Truck

2009-04-03T17:14:00.000+05:30

It's no surprise that engineers and designers are furiously trying to green long-haul tractor trailors. Just like airplanes, the profit margins are small, so ekeing out a 10% improvement in fuel efficiency is big news. And commerical transport represents a massive chunk of the carbon footprint in our goods--so much that it often nullifies the good intent of organic produce. But what might surprise you are the ways in which engineers are making big-rigs greener.

MIT Scientists Build Virus-Powered Batteries for Your Next Electric Car

2009-04-03T17:10:00.001+05:30

We've heard a lot of creative ideas for powering rechargeable batteries, but this one from MIT takes the cake. Researchers at the university have genetically engineered viruses to build the positively and negatively charged ends of a lithium ion battery. Work on anodes for the virus-powered batteries began three years ago, but MIT scientists have just now figured out a way to engineer cathodes. The research team claims that its virus-powered batteries have as much power and energy capacity as rechargeable batteries currently being considered for plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) like the Tesla Model S and the Chevy Volt.

The team built the battery cathode by genetically engineering viruses to coat themselves with iron phosphate and grab on to carbon nanotubes to make a network of conductive material. Each iron phosphate nanowire is "wired" to conducting carbon nanotube networks. Electrons travel along the networks until they reach the iron phosphate, where they transfer energy.

Lab tests show that the virus-powered batteries can be charged and discharged 100 times without losing capacitance, but researchers working on the project eventually expect the batteries to last much longer.

Worried About the Economy? Samsung says Buy a TV

2009-04-03T16:59:00.000+05:30

The president of Samsung’s consumer electronics division has

a curious recipe for getting through the recession: buy a TV.

It costs less than a beach vacation, he says, and with Samsung’s

new line of LCD HDTVs that use 40% less energy than conventional sets,

you can feel good about splurging on eco-friendly entertainment.

“Consumers are starting to say, ‘You know what, times are tough.

We’re going to invest in family, we’re going to buy a TV,”

Tim Baxter told Fast Company at Samsung’s 2009 Spring

Fever Showcase on Tuesday.

Baxter added that customers--presumably those who have benefited

from government bailouts--are “using this as a time to trade up” to snazzier TVs.

Some say the economic crisis is a good opportunity for Americans

to quit living beyond their means. Baxter is not having it. In his view,

you can have your big-screen TV and watch it too.

“46 is the new 32,” he said. “They say that about age, but it’s the same with TVs.”
