Randy Travis arrested in Texas on suspicion of public intoxication

Country music star Randy Travis was arrested early Monday on suspicion of public intoxication outside a Texas church, authorities said.

Just after midnight, a police officer investigating Sanger of a suspicious vehicle outside the First Baptist Church with Travis reportedly found an open bottle of wine and smelling of alcohol, said Tom Reedy , a spokesman for the Denton County Sheriff Department.

Travis was booked in Denton County Jail about 1:30 am, Reedy said. He was released several hours later in a replica of Class C misdemeanor.

Prison records listed his address in the near Tioga.

In a statement released to The Associated Press, Travis apologized "for what resulted following a night of celebrating the Super Bowl."

Travis, a seven-time Grammy Award winner, is scheduled to begin a concert tour Friday in the Grand Ronde, Ore.., According to its website.
