For generations, darkness has held a strong grip on many communities in Haiti. Voodoo practices and beliefs shape daily life, often leaving people searching for hope, peace, and freedom. But God is still transforming lives, and the stories of Sylvanie and Julno are beautiful reminders that His light can reach anyone, anywhere.

Sylvie’s story is a powerful picture of redemption. For years, she supported her son, a voodoo priest, by serving drinks to those who came to participate in ceremonies. It was simply the life she had always known.

But when she encountered the hope and truth of the Gospel, everything changed. Today, instead of serving drinks at voodoo gatherings, Sylvie joyfully serves coffee at her church, welcoming worshipers with a warm smile.

Julno’s journey has been just as remarkable. He often shares stories of how he once played drums in local voodoo ceremonies. After giving his life to Christ several years ago, his life took a completely different direction. The same musical gifts he once used in voodoo ceremonies are now being used to worship God at Agape Victory Church in Bail-Savanette.

Through the transforming power of the Gospel, both Sylvanie and Julno have stepped out of darkness and into God’s marvelous light, becoming living testimonies of His grace and redemption.

Edens grew up in a family that faced many hardships. As the oldest of seven children, he often carried responsibilities far beyond his years. His mother struggled with ongoing health problems that frequently left her unable to work, and the family lived in deep poverty.

Yet even in these difficult circumstances, Edens remained determined to pursue an education with the help of sponsorship and eventually attended university to study engineering.

Six months ago, however, a new challenge emerged. Edens began losing weight and feeling increasingly unwell.

Concerned about his health, he visited the medical center near his university, where he was treated for stomach acid and given medication.

Despite following the treatment plan, his condition continued to worsen. As the weeks passed, he grew weaker and thinner. Eventually, his worried roommate (a pre-med university student) reached out for help, knowing something more serious was happening.

At just the right time, God had already been preparing the answer.

Thanks to you, Sant Sante Espwa had recently been able to hire a part-time physician. When Edens returned home from university, he met with our physician, who carefully evaluated his symptoms, ordered testing, and diagnosed him with extrapulmonary tuberculosis. This form of TB can affect multiple parts of the body, causing severe pain, fatigue, and dramatic weight loss. After months of uncertainty, Edens finally has answers and a path toward healing.

Today, Edens has begun a six-month course of antimicrobial medication and is hopeful for recovery. His family members are also being tested, since dormant tuberculosis can remain hidden for years before becoming active. In fact, there is a possibility that the illness may help explain many of the health struggles his mother has endured over the years.

Stories like Edens’ remind us of the life-changing impact of sponsorship and healthcare. Because you made it possible to place a physician at Sant Sante Espwa, a serious illness was identified, treatment was started, and a young man with a bright future can continue pursuing his dream of becoming an engineer.

GRADUATES:

Ten years ago, these three young students in Haiti were chosen for sponsorship through World Wide Village. Like many children in the program, they came from families facing significant financial challenges but shared something powerful in common, a desire to learn and build a brighter future.

Over the years, sponsorship has helped provide access to education that may have otherwise been out of reach. Yet their journeys have not been without obstacles. Three years ago, escalating gang violence forced all three students and their families to flee their homes and start over. Yet through every challenge, their sponsors were there to help them persevere.

Next month, they will celebrate a remarkable achievement: graduating from high school!

Charanatha Raymond, affectionately known as Keke, is 21 years old and joined the sponsorship program in 2016. Described as honest and intelligent, Charanatha enjoys running and has always approached life with determination. Living with her mother, sister, and three brothers, Charanatha has shown incredible resilience and is now preparing to cross the graduation stage after years of hard work.

John Kerry Ferdinand, known to friends as Johnky, was also chosen for sponsorship in 2016. Friendly and wise, he enjoys playing soccer and comes from a large family that includes his parents and four sisters. Like many families in the region, John’s family was displaced by violence and relocated 20 minutes south of Williamson to Saint-Meddard. Despite the disruption, he remained focused on his studies and continued moving toward his goal. His graduation is a testament to perseverance, faith, and the opportunities made possible through sponsorship.

Rosebervely Belizaire has always been known as a smart and hardworking student. At 21 years old, she lives with her parents, three brothers, and two sisters and also joined the sponsorship program in 2016. Rosebervely loves reading and has a particular interest in biology. Her commitment to learning has carried her through difficult circumstances and helped her reach this exciting milestone.

As graduation day approaches, we celebrate not only the accomplishments of Charanatha, John Kerry, and Rosebervely, but also the faithfulness of God throughout their journey. These three young adults represent the immense impact of sponsorship. What began with a sponsor’s decision to invest in a child’s future has grown into a story of hope, perseverance, and success!

FLAG DAY CELEBRATIONS:

So many amazing pictures came in from the Flag Day outreach event at Agape Victory Church in Bail-Savanette! Their youth Bible club called Centre Famille Agape hosted a wonderful event. From the colorful parade to the laughter, worship, and time spent together as a community, it was such a special day of sharing the love of Christ. Thanks to your ongoing generosity, World Wide Village was able to help provide food for the event!

HEALTHCARE:

One of the most exciting developments this month was the continued growth of Sant Sante Espwa through the hiring of a part-time physician. Because of your generosity last month, the clinic is now able to expand medical care and better serve patients in the community.

As more families turn to Sant Sante Espwa for treatment, having a trained physician on staff is an important step forward in providing higher-quality care and support for more difficult medical cases.

Next month, we’re excited to officially introduce Dr. Paret and share more about her background, her passion for serving others, and the difference she is already beginning to make at the clinic.

MOUNTAIN SCHOOLS:

In the mountain communities of Haiti, education is often out of reach for many children. Long walking distances, extreme poverty, and a lack of nearby schools mean some students may never have the opportunity to step foot inside a classroom.

Thanks to you, two mountain schools are educating children that might not otherwise have the funds to keep their doors open. Every classroom filled, every lesson taught, and every child welcomed into school is a reminder that even in the most isolated places, lives can be changed through compassion and investment in education.

WEDDING CELEBRATIONS:

This month also brought wonderful moments of celebration as two of our staff members in Haiti were married. Introducing, Mr. Jean and Celissa Prenelus and Mr. Eleste and Michelene Delcine!

These faithful team members pour abundant love into serving others and reflect Christ through the way they care for their communities each day. We were so happy to celebrate alongside them as they start this exciting new season of life together.

YOUTH RETREAT:

Fifty students from Armee du Salut School recently had the opportunity to take part in a special weekend retreat in Luly, Haiti. The theme of the retreat was “Youth Committed to Transforming This Generation,” encouraging students to grow in their faith, leadership, and desire to make a difference in the world around them.

It was a meaningful time filled with worship, teaching, fellowship, and encouragement for these young people. Experiences like this go far beyond the classroom and leave a lasting impact on students’ lives. Your generosity is helping raise up a generation of young leaders in Haiti filled with hope and faith for the future.

With a welcome decrease in gang violence this year, Luly was able to safely gather again to revive a meaningful tradition – the Miss Catherine Flon Contest.

This pageant aims to promote Haitian culture and the empowerment of young women, serving as a tribute to Catherine Flon.

According to Haitian tradition, Catherine Flon created the country’s first flag on May 18, 1803, when the leader of the Revolution cut apart a French tricolor flag. He gave the pieces to Flon, who stitched together the blue and red pieces to create Haiti’s first flag.

It was a very exciting contest for World Wide Village as three sponsored students were finalists in the local competition and our very own Sandy Charles took home the local crown!

From the moment she stepped on stage, Sandy brought confidence, joy, and a deep pride in her country that made everyone take notice, but Sandy’s journey to this moment hasn’t been easy.

Like many students in Haiti, she’s had to push through challenges that could have easily slowed her down. But Sandy kept showing up, working hard in school, and growing into the strong, bright young woman we see today.

With the support of her sponsor and her community, she built the confidence to stand on that stage, share her knowledge, and truly shine. Her victory feels like a win for all of us and we couldn’t be more proud!

After winning the local competition, Sandy had the opportunity to represent the community of Luly in the regional Miss Catherine Flon contest in Arcahaie, the county seat.

Sandy came in third place out of 36 young women competing in the final competition. Sandy was the youngest student competing as a freshman in high school and she was called a “rising star” by the Master of Ceremonies. We agree that God has great things planned for Sandy!

In the rural community of Bail-Savanette, Haiti, Pridom’s story is a beautiful testimony of transformation and perseverance. After coming to faith in Christ through the church planting ministry of Agape Victory Church, Pridom was baptized, married, and became an active part of the church family. His pastor describes him as one of the most grateful people he has ever known – a man whose life reflects humility, faith, and hope even through difficult circumstances.

Like many families in rural Haiti, Pridom has faced ongoing economic struggles and limited opportunities for steady work. Wanting to provide for his family with dignity, he used a small microgrant to relaunch his traditional stove-making business.

These handmade stoves are an important part of daily life in the community, helping families cook meals more efficiently while also creating a dependable source of income for Pridom.

Today, the impact of that small investment is already being seen. With renewed purpose and determination, Pridom is rebuilding his small shop and serving people throughout his community. His story is a reminder that when faith, encouragement, and practical support come together, lives can truly change.

Through this opportunity, Pridom is not only strengthening his business, but also building a brighter future for his family and becoming an example of hope to others around him.

There is so much excitement surrounding the expansion of Sant Sante Espwa, and already the impact is clear. Since moving into a larger facility, patient numbers have nearly doubled, allowing us to reach more families with compassionate care at a time when many clinics in Haiti are closing.

Max Saint-Fleur is the newest addition to the team at Sant Sante Espwa! Max is a well-trained midwife, educated by Midwives for Haiti, an organization dedicated to preparing skilled providers to serve in rural communities. Already, Max has begun reaching out and building relationships in the community, bringing compassionate, knowledgeable care to mothers and babies and strengthening support available to families in the area.

Gessica Antoine has served as a nurse with World Wide Village for the past five years, becoming a steady and trusted presence at the clinic. Day after day, she brings skill and compassion to every patient she meets. Over the years, she has helped deliver hundreds of babies, playing a vital role in welcoming new life into the world. Known for her warm and welcoming smile, Gessica is a reassuring face to mothers and families during some of their most important moments.

Osnel Jeanrilus is a trusted and long-time member of the World Wide Village team and the new manager of the clinic. With years of dedication and experience, he brings steady leadership. Osnel plays a key role in keeping the clinic running smoothly while also offering spiritual encouragement and support to both patients and staff. His heart for sharing the gospel combined with his administrative skills makes him a natural fit for this important role.

Dr. Mirlande Paret is a dedicated physician in Haiti who is willing to serve part-time at Sant Sante Espwa, bringing valuable expertise to the clinic. Her presence would be a tremendous asset, especially in handling more complex and difficult cases that require advanced medical training and experience. With her support, the clinic would equipped to care for patients in critical situations, strengthening the overall level of care for the community.

Sant Sante Espwa is also supported by dedicated team members who work behind the scenes to keep the clinic running smoothly each day. From maintaining clean and safe spaces to caring for the grounds and providing security, their roles are essential to the clinic’s success. These team members create a welcoming, orderly environment where quality care can happen, ensuring that every patient who walks through the doors is served with dignity and respect.

The new 7th grade classroom at the Good Samaritan School is complete! This space represents so much more than walls and desks. It’s a place where students will grow, learn, and work toward a brighter future. With a dedicated classroom, these students now have the space they need to thrive each day.

Every step of growth at the Good Samaritan school has been made possible by you. Five years ago, this small school started as just a primary school. Today, it has expanded to 8th grade with your help! Through sponsorship and the construction of new classrooms, more and more students are being given the chance to attend school.

We’re excited to share a look inside the new home of Sant Sante Espwa! This video will walk you through our larger, safer space that is already welcoming more patients than ever before. While we still have some work to do (like adding shelves and improving organization) it gives you a great feel for how this new facility will help us expand care and serve more families with compassion and dignity.

What began as a small mobile clinic in 2013 has grown into a trusted place of healing, thanks to so many of you. Even through the uncertainty of 2023, when we were forced to leave our permanent location, and the challenges of operating in a cramped temporary space for the past two years, God has remained faithful. Now, in this new semi-permanent home, Sant Sante Espwa continues to stand as a place of hope and care in Haiti.

Today, we find ourselves on the edge of something truly exciting. We have the opportunity to welcome a part-time physician and pursue certification with the Ministry of Public Health in Haiti, opening the door to expanded services and deeper impact in the community.

SEWING SCHOOL GRADUATION:

Five young women recently reached an exciting milestone as they graduated from World Wide Village’s two-year sewing program. When they first began the program at the Robin’s Nest Sewing Center, they arrived eager but unsure of what the future might hold.

Over the past two years, they spent countless hours learning how to measure fabric, cut patterns, repair clothing, and sew beautiful garments. With each stitch, their confidence grew, and what once felt like a simple class slowly became the foundation for a new vocation.

In rural Haiti, opportunities for young women to learn a skilled trade can be very limited. For these graduates, the ability to sew means more than just making clothing. It opens the door to earning an income, starting a small tailoring business, and helping provide for their families.

Skills like these create dignity and independence, giving young women the chance to build a future that once may have seemed out of reach.

Thanks to the amazing generosity of those who gave on Giving Tuesday, construction continues on a new classroom at the Good Samaritan School. What was once a vision is now becoming reality as each concrete block is laid. Your kindness is helping create a place where students can learn and grow!

The metal roof was just added and the finishing touches like doors, windows, and plaster will be next. It’s exciting to see the progress!
