The world has scene and done a lot since its existence. And with each passing year - more important events, announcements, discoveries, and news happens in the world. Because of the accumulation of important history over time - each calendar day of the year has something important behind.

FamousDaily (http://famousdaily.com) displays world history each day broken out by category. There is the general history category which discussed political events, wars, and general news making items that have withstood the test of time. There is an entertainment section which highlights an movie or television related event that occurred today in history. There is a geography section detailing an event that happened to a US state or another particular country in the world. There is a sports section discussing what people remember from this date in the world of sports. And there is a business section detailing a financial or corporate invention or announcement that happened on this day.

It is awesome when we break out history by category so that we can see how world history has shaped select categories of our culture. Today is after all a special day - and by understanding the history behind today - we can appreciate it more.

Thank all of you for your thoughtful and, for the most part, well written comments about my article on the disintegration of the United States. I would like to respond briefly, and since I am “the author” I can do so as a blog.

I recommend that you read Joe Garreau’s book, The Nine Nations of North America, or Robert Kaplan’s book, An Empire Wilderness: Travels into America’s Future. An underlying and unstated thesis in both is that the United States is a land of contradictions comprised of quite diverse people, united by common interests, which resolves its differences relatively peacefully. A delicate equilibrium. During the past two generations, as the system has aged and adapted to new and unforeseen conditions and circumstances, this equilibrium has become increasingly unstable and difficult to maintain. I base this conclusion on my readings and extensive travels around the country over the past several years in connection with my employment.

I suspect that the origins of this increasing instability lie in the country’s engagement in the world following the Second World War. As long as the United States remained aloof or at least disengaged, the people could pursue their unique democratic experiment. Now the country, or at least the “Intellectual Class”, feels the need to conform to international norms and standards, all under the rubric of “globalization”. This attempt to play world leader and model to emulate has placed an unbearable burden upon the people’s shoulders. As a result they are no longer residents of the shining city on the hill (the New Jerusalem) but clueless dim bulbs in a suburb filled with foreclosure signs.

People often believe that December 25 marks the end of Christmas while, in fact, it’s just the beginning. What many people regard as Christmas is really the month long season of Advent (the Beginning) which looks forward to Christmas and the start of another liturgical year. Christmas begins on December 25 and ends on January 5, hence the twelve days of Christmas. So I thought early this morning, while the rest of the family is still asleep, might be a good time to look at Christmas from a religious perspective rather than a consumer one.

Complaints about Christmas being overly commercialized go all the way back to the era following the First World War. For example Santa Claus today is depicted as wearing a red and white suite with a black belt and black boots rather than the earlier green jacket and tan pants. Why? Because red, white and black are the Cocoa Cola colors. For years Cocoa Cola had a Christmas billboard campaign featuring Santa Claus drinking a Coke and wishing everyone a Merry Christmas. And, of course, he was wearing a suite made from the company colors. During the thirties some grinches noted those were also the colors of Hitler’s Nazi party, and, I suppose, the “war on Christmas” was launched.

Criticism of the commercialization of Christmas reached its zenith with the 1958 release of Stan Freberg’s “Green Chri$tma$”, a biting satire about the season built around the story of a greedy and obtuse advertising executive. Since then it’s been all down hill, and half a century later people can’t understand how all this religious stuff has managed to intrude into our national Happy Holiday spending spree. And maybe that’s not such a bad turn of events for those of us who just want to celebrate the birth of the Prince of Peace, and hope the new year will be the year when there truly will be peace on earth and goodwill toward men. We have our HOLY DAY back. (How long will it take the Happy Holiday crowd to figure this out? Remember Season’s Greetings?)

All of us at these web sites wish you a Merry Christmas, and our Jewish readers a Happy Hanukkah, a holiday commemorating freedom from oppression and occupation by a brutal empire. Together these seasons remind us that we have much to be thankful for.

There is an old saying about Quebec: Pity the poor French Canadians. They had a chance to build a country based on British politics, American technology, and French culture. Sadly, they ended up building a country based on French politics, British technology, and American culture. There is also an old saying about Mexico that easily can apply to Canada. Pity poor Mexico, so far from God, so close to the United States. Canada’s attempt since 1960 to become a real country, rather than just a place, clearly is ending in failure half a century later, and the consequences for the United States are growing more ominous by the day.

For starters, it looks as if the American people are about to elect as their president a man who is a Kenyan by birth, and who looks, talks, acts, and thinks like a Canadian. Not a comforting thought when one considers Canada is the Fannie Mae, Lehman Brothers, General Motors, and Bethlehem Steel of nations. It’s little more than a bunch of losers who could have reached for the stars, and instead flew the business into the pavement face first. People criticize Barrack Obama for promising change while failing to be specific about what he means. To the contrary, his goal could not be clearer; he wants to turn the United States into Canada.

He is what nineteenth century British imperialists called a “brown skinned Englishman”; namely, a colonialist superbly suited to advance the interests of the British Empire and the class that ruled it. Today, the British colonial masters and their pathetic lackeys wear three button suits rather than resplendent uniforms, call themselves “neo conservatives”, and prattle on about the New American Century, as if they think no one recognizes it for what it is, the old British Empire with an American accent. And by the way, they are only too happy to let the Americans supply the muscle, and bleed the rivers of blood necessary to ensure the endeavor is a profitable going concern.

So if you want to know what the future holds for the United States under an Obama presidency and a Democratic congress you have but to look north to what was once a really nice place. It wasn’t a country, but a least it was nice. Now it’s just an increasingly violent, demoralized and beaten down satrapy. Keep your head down, and your mouth shut if you know what’s good for you. And above all, never disagree with the ruling class, just be a good peasant. It’s called the Canadian Way of Life. And Mexico? It may not be nice, and it may only be a narco-gangster state ineptly governed by a corrupt oligarchy, but a least it’s a real country. God Save the Queen!
