It is with much regret that we announce the cancellation of the Parent Connection’s World’s Largest Play Date due to lack of funding. While the Parent Connection offers numerous special events each year for its members and non-members alike, the World’s Largest Play Date was a new venture of a magnitude that required significant additional fundraising. Hopefully in a better economy our organization will be able to add this county-wide day of play to our schedule of social events. In the meantime, please visit our website, www.SanDiegoParent.com, for a list of other fantastic upcoming events including our Swap Meet on October 3^rd, Fall Harvest Festival on October 23^rd and Breakfast with Santa on December 4^th.

Happy New Year! We’re just getting back from a beautiful day at Seaworld. I’ve been buying the Silver Passport pass at Costco for the past 4 years, and always get my money’s worth. Even if we make it there for just a couple of hours, it’s fresh air, educational, entertaining and great for inducing naps .

Each year First Night Escondido presents an event that celebrates community, the arts, and the New Year with 12 stages of music and dance, the best of restaurant and vendor foods, hands-on art activities, and two dazzling fireworks displays!

FIREWORKS at 9PM and MIDNIGHT!!!

At Legoland’s Family New Year’s Event event midnight strikes at 6 p.m. (12 AM KST—Kid Standard Time)! Like the famous Times Square party, Kids’ New Year’s Eve features a countdown followed by a huge LEGO® brick dropping 22-feet into 2010 and a dazzling fireworks display.

The party begins at 3 p.m. with performances by The Jumpitz™ and Justin Roberts and the Not Ready for Naptime Players. Mini revelers will receive party favors including glow necklaces, fireworks viewing glasses and noisemakers. So get in the Holiday spirit and ring in the New Year at LEGOLAND California.

The New Children’s Museum will host its 2nd annual Jump Party New Year’s Family Celebration & Fundraiser
Friday, January 1 from 12–4pm.

The Cricket Wireless Level will be grooving with a family friendly DJ spinning tunes while you jump in Missing Links, play your favorite gallery games and ring in the new year! Enjoy imaginative and interactive performances with award-winning educational entertainment group, The Jumpitz. Funds raised from this event will help provide free studio art supplies in 2010.

Here’s what we’re doing…jumping in the car tomorrow morning and driving 6 hours to Mammoth Mountain where we’ll rent a house with 2 other families and spend the week frolicking in the snow, ice skating, enjoying their free outdoor concerts, children’s events and fireworks. As soon as she knew it was winter, my 4-year-old started asking when it would snow. She had a hard time accepting that it doesn’t snow in San Diego, so we’re taking care of that with our Mammoth trip.

Now I’ll just have to explain to her that there are no polar bears living in the snow of Mammoth

Shhh. The kids are sleeping so I’m sitting down to write about fun things to do with your kids this holiday season. These come straight from the Parent Connection mommy message boards…something like 1,500 San Diego moms sharing ideas on everything from finding a great plumber to clever things to do for Thanksgiving when you don’t have family in town.

Home Hospitality – Adopt a Marine for Thanksgiving

One of our most popular programs with community members is our Home Hospitality event where they can host two Marines for Thanksgiving dinner. In collaboration with the School of Infantry Command which is located in the San Onofre area of Camp Pendleton, School of Infantry Marine students are allowed approximately eight hours of liberty to enjoy the holiday, and unless the Marine’s family is within a 90 mile radius of the School of Infantry, their training schedule does not allot enough travel time to be with family.
The Marine students must travel in pairs, and since they are also new to the Marine Corps having just graduated from boot camp, they are not allowed to drive which means participating community members not only feed these young men (only male Marines attend this particular school), but they must also pick-up them up and bring them back at designated times.
If you are interested in hosting two Marines for Thanksgiving dinner, please contact our office. We are blessed to say there are generally more community members to host than there are Marines to place so please don’t wait to call our office the week of Thanksgiving…all the Marine students will most likely be placed by then!

You don’t have to be a Parent Connection member to play at the World’s Largest Play Date, and you don’t have to be a Parent Connection member to participate in some of our awesome, ongoing events. If you want to see what we’re all about, bring your bambinos to the Hullabaloo concert on Friday, November 20^th at 10:30 a.m. Hullabaloo plays a children’s concert once a month at the Parent Connection office in UTC Mall/La Jolla. On nice days we bring the music outside on the grassy lawn between Nordstrom and the Scripps Mendel Well Being office and kids really dig it. Get all the details at SanDiegoParent.com.

Of course we’re hoping that Hullabaloo brings their down-home brand of music to the World’s Largest Play Date on August 28^tbecause it wouldn’t be a Parent Connection party without them! These guys will be kicking off their world tour right here in San Diego this holiday season, but I hear they have the World’s Largest Play Date on their calendar and plan to be back to entertain the thousands of San Diego families who attend. I can’t believe I’m writing a blog since I’ve never actually read a blog. I don’t have the time, and I always wonder who does?! But now that I’m helping the 3,000 members of the Parent Connection set the world record for largest play date, I have something to write about that actually might be of interest to San Diego moms.

Are you looking for FREE things to do with your kids in San Diego? Do your kids like jumpers, face painting, bubbles, music, magic, dancing, animals, character visits, caricatures, crafts, clowns and carnival food? Mark your calendar for The World’s Largest Play Date on Saturday, October 9^th, 2010 and help the Parent Connection set a world record.

Why play date? Well, for 30 years the Parent Connection in San Diego has been known mainly for its playgroups. We currently have 260 active playgroups in San Diego! We’re getting our members together for this record-setting event and are inviting all San Diego kids to join us in the fun. Did I mention it’s free??
