Tuffman Stainless Steel Trommel Screen Built New

That was until Dr. Dan Canfield, a lake management specialist from the University of Florida, stepped onto the scene. Actions to reclaim the lake had been discussed and attempted before, but Canfield is the mastermind behind the current undertaking. The idea behind the Clean to Green dredging project is to reclaim both the lake and the muck, preserving as many natural resources as possible, and even making some money along the way.

The thick, soupy water is siphoned from the lake and sent through the Tuffman Stainless Steel Trommel Screen that spins and sifts it, separating the muck from the water. The result is two separate discharge streams from the trommel, one of clean water to be recycled back into the lake and one of odorless, loose dirt that can be reused as potting soil or top soil.

The ability to reuse the muck this way also saves money, as the soil can be sold to help fund the project. Researchers predict funds from the soil reclamation paying for as much as half of the costs of cleaning up the lake. Overall, the project that is just in the beginning phases is estimated to take five years and cost $25 million. Orange County Commissioner Fred Brummer, who has made it his longtime goal to clean up the lake, is excited to see the project underway and hopeful of the revenue it will bring in. Project researchers are currently determining how quickly the sellable soil is created through the Tuffman trommel and how much it will retail for.

Granulators provide years of quality service, so long as they are used and maintained properly. Maintaining a granulator is not especially hard to do, and taking the proper steps ahead of time can reduce downtime, increase service life and quality of output, and eliminate more extreme maintenance jobs in the future.

The most important thing to know when maintaining a granulator is that the machine needs to be cleaned after every use. Often times, equipment owners forget that the simple step of cleaning can help a product last longer. With granulators, this step is especially important because plastic builds up and can clog the blades, rotor and electric motor. The inside chamber should be cleaned out and wiped down between uses. The screen should be cleaned periodically as well and inspected for clogs and signs or wear. In addition to being wiped down, the motor should be kept lubricated and the blades and rotor should be oiled on a regular basis to keep the device running smoothly.

Another important factor to consider when using a granulator is the condition of the material entering the device. Processing dirty material wears out the blades and shaft bearings, causing gaps between the stationary knives and rotating blades. This wear results in excessive play, reducing the quality of cut and throughput capability. Under these conditions, the material is torn rather than cut, reducing the consistency of the output and resulting in further maintenance. One proactive way to eliminate this problem before it happens is through use of a de-dusting system. This device is an air-driven attachment that removes significant quantities of dust from the cutting chamber, rotor and blades, thus extending the life of the blades and ensuring better quality cuts.

The TPS Model M40 SRU103 Portable Thermal Desorption Unit comes equipped with one 20′ x 6′ primary drum (carbonate steel) with a 25 MMBtu/hr Hauck burner and an oxidizer (secondary) with a 22 MMBtu burner, baghouse, separate scrubber unit and controls. The entire unit is mounted on a tri-axle trailer. This unit can be used for treating hydrocarbon contaminated soils, sludge, tank bottom and some drilling muds.

The thermal soil remediation process heats the soil in a rotating drum to a temperature high enough to vaporize the contaminants in the soil but not high enough to burn or incinerate it. The vaporized gases and dust, a result of the heating and tumbling in the rotary drum, are routed into an air pollution control device called a baghouse. The baghouse filters and collects the dust, much like a vacuum cleaner bag. The gases, including hydrocarbons (organic compounds found in petroleum products) released from the soil, are sent to an air pollution control device called an afterburner or thermal oxidizer. These devices heat the gases to extremely high temperatures in order to decompose de-compose them, destroying hazardous air pollutants, breaking down hydrocarbon-based pollutants and restoring the chemical makeup of the gas to CO2 and H2O before discharging it. The afterburner operates at a minimum temperature of 1450 F and destroys 99 percent of the released hydrocarbons.

Pugmills are used in the paving and construction industries to create road base, a well-graded aggregate that is uniformly mixed and densely compacted for building the foundation level laid below pavement. They are also used to create roller-compacted concrete (RCC), a blend of concrete made from cement, water and aggregate, but that is much drier and denser than regular concrete. The stiff nature of RCC requires used of a paddle-lined pugmill in order to mix the materials completely and ensure the substance will discharge easily.

Beyond paving and construction work, pugmills are used in other industries for various other mixing jobs.
