We are making some changes to Windows that will impact users of the Cortana app. Starting in August 2023, we will no longer support Cortana in Windows as a standalone app. However, you can still access powerful productivity features in Windows and Edge, which have increased AI capabilities. This means you can still get help with your tasks, calendar, and email, but in new and exciting ways. This change only impacts Cortana in Windows, and your productivity assistant, Cortana, will continue to be available in Outlook mobile, Teams mobile, Microsoft Teams display, and Microsoft Teams rooms.

We know that this change may affect some of the ways you work in Windows, so we want to help you transition smoothly to the new options. Instead of clicking the Cortana icon and launching the app to begin using voice, now you can use voice and satisfy your productivity needs through different tools. Here are some of the resources you can use to learn more about the alternatives:

Voice access in Windows 11: This is a new feature in Windows 11 that lets you control your PC and write text using your voice. You can use voice commands to open and switch between apps, browse the web, and read and write emails. Voice access works offline and uses advanced speech recognition to understand your speech and help you get things done.

The new Bing: The new AI-powered Bing lets you ask complex questions and get concise answers from reliable sources on the web. You can type or speak your questions and Bing Chat will give you a succinct answer citing multiple trusted sources.

Microsoft 365 Copilot: This is a new feature that uses AI to turn your words into a powerful productivity tool. Copilot uses your Microsoft 365 data—such as your calendar, emails, chats, documents, and meetings—to help you create, edit, share content, and more. The key components of webOS are the System and Application Manager (SAM), which is responsible for running applications and services, and the Luna Surface Manager (LSM), which forms the user interface. The components are written using the Qt framework and the Chromium browser engine.

Rendering is done through a composite manager using the Wayland protocol. The leader of the global premium TV market for nine years and counting and a CES Innovation Award honoree for eight consecutive years, LG OLED TV has reshaped the premium TV segment to become the first choice for millions of consumers worldwide.¹OLED TVs employ self-lighting pixels that can be turned on and off individually to deliver perfect blacks, incredibly natural colors and infinite contrast. Backlight-free, OLED is thinner and lighter than every other display technology, allowing for the creation of unprecedented form factors such as bendable and rollable TVs.

Featuring LG’s advanced OLED panel, the new G2 series models are in a class of their own. The α9 Gen 5 also expands the capabilities of LG’s AI Sound Pro feature to provide viewers with more lifelike audio; enabling the TVs’ built-in speakers to produce virtual 7.1.2 surround sound.

Upgraded-UX (and WebOS 22)
The latest version of LG’s innovative Smart TV platform brings the user experience to life on LG’s new TVs, delivering maximum convenience and easier content discovery. webOS 22 introduces personal profiles so users can enjoy a more customized viewing experience. Under each profile, users can set up fast access to their favorite streaming services, get tailored content recommendations based on viewing history and receive real time alerts to keep up with favorite sports teams. Logging into profiles can be performed either from the TV browser or from a smartphone with NFC Magic Tap.

NFC Magic Tap can also be used to mirror a mobile device screen to an LG TV.⁴ Viewers can also mirror content from one TV to another in the home using Room To Room Share, which enables the viewing of cable or satellite content on another TV via Wi-Fi without an additional set-top-box.⁵Also new for 2022, Always Ready turns an LG TV into a media display when not in use. Easily set up in the SETTINGS menu, Always Ready is activated with a press of the power button on the LG Remote to transform the screen into a digital canvas for showcasing artwork, keeping track of time or playing music.⁶

What’s more, upgrading ThinQ AI will allow LG’s 2022 TVs to become true smart home hubs. In addition to providing users with effortless voice control, and compatibility with other ThinQ-powered devices, ThinQ AI now offers support for Matter, a new industry standard for a more secure and seamlessly connected smart home, which will allow LG TVs to work as a controller for connected devices.⁷

Outstanding-Picture-Quality
Acknowledged by consumers, tech experts and the biggest names in the film industry, LG OLED TVs continue to raise the bar for picture quality. The panels found in the 2022 OLED lineups have been certified by global product testing agency Intertek for 100 percent color fidelity and 100 percent color volume. LG OLED TVs are unique in their ability to match the colors in the original source content and express all colors accurately regardless of how bright or dark the displayed images may be.⁸All 2022 LG OLEDs are certified flicker-free by both TÜV Rheinland and Underwriters Laboratories, and glare-free by UL. LG’s OLED panels have also been recognized by TÜV Rheinland for their low blue light performance and are the first in the world that meet the low blue light emission requirement of Eyesafe, a U.S.-based health standards agency. After five consecutive quarters of double-digit growth, the U.S. PC market declined 8.8% overall in the third quarter of 2021. Desktop shipments increased by 8% driven by upward demands in the business market, but weakness in the consumer PC market continued. Despite back-to-school sales and replenished retail inventories, both laptop and Chromebook shipments decreased around 10% year-over-year in the U.S.

“The device-per-student ratio in the U.S. education market is beginning to approach 1:1, which has slowed down the pace of incremental growth,” said Kitagawa.

Dell secured the top spot in the U.S. PC market based on shipments with a 26.1% market share. HP followed with 24.5% of the U.S. PC market.

Worldwide PC shipments totaled 84.1 million units in the third quarter of 2021, an increase of 1% from the third quarter of 2020, according to preliminary results by Gartner, Inc. As COVID-19 vaccines become more widely available, consumer and educational spending began to shift away from PCs to other priorities, slowing momentum in the market.

“As many schools worldwide reopened, there was no longer an immediate need for PCs and Chromebooks to support at-home education,” said Mikako Kitagawa, research director at Gartner.

“Business PC demand remained strong, led by economic recovery in key regions and the return of some workers to offices,” added Kitagawa. “However, business PC growth was concentrated in the desktop segment as semiconductor shortages continued to constrain laptop shipments. These component shortages are expected to persist into the first half of 2022.”

Beginning this quarter, Gartner has included Chromebooks in its traditional PC market results. Chromebook shipments declined 17% in the third quarter of 2021, due to decreased demand in the education market. This was the first double-digit year-over-year decline in Chromebook sales since its introduction to the market in 2011.

The top three vendors in the worldwide PC market remained unchanged year-over-year, with Lenovo maintaining the No. 1 spot in shipments.

After five consecutive quarters of double-digit growth, Lenovo’s growth was tempered in the third quarter of 2021. Lenovo saw growth in all regions except Japan, where shipments declined by over 50%, as a government program in the region to purchase PCs for educational use largely came to an end. Overall, Lenovo’s shipments were adversely affected by the slowdown in the consumer market and supply shortages in the enterprise market. Simultaneously, Lenovo benefited from stable business PC demands and was able to be more flexible in responding to component shortages due to a higher mix of in-house manufacturing.

HP experienced its second consecutive quarter of year-over-year decline, driven by a 30% decrease in shipments in the U.S. due to the weakening Chromebook demand in the education segment. HP also continued to face supply chain issues this quarter: A major backlog of unfilled orders led HP to potentially miss out on opportunities that its competitors capitalized upon.

After lagging early in the pandemic, Dell recorded strong results in the third quarter of 2021, notching its fourth consecutive quarter of double-digit growth and reaching over 15 million shipments for the first time ever. Dell’s limited focus in the consumer market helped the company to be less impacted by slowed consumer PC demand.

Apple still managed to achieve 7.4% growth despite a weak consumer market. The company’s M1-based PCs have been well received by the user community, driving increased shipments. However, anticipating a potential product refresh in the coming months, some Apple buyers have put laptop purchases on hold, which negatively affected 3Q21 shipment volumes.

Q3 2021 Worldwide Smartphone market share: Samsung 20,18%, Apple 14,04%, Xiaomi 12,98% says Counterpoint

The global smartphone market grew 6% QoQ to reach 342 million units in Q3 2021, according to the latest research from Counterpoint’s Market Monitor service. However, the market declined 6% YoY due to the ongoing global component shortages and the slow recovery of key markets such as China and parts of Europe.

Commenting on the overall market dynamics, Research Director Tarun Pathak said, “During the September quarter, we saw supply constraints that were even more severe than those experienced during the June quarter. The global semiconductor shortage finally also took a toll on the end consumers. Due to the demand-supply mismatch, most components used in smartphones have seen upward price movements, forcing some major OEMs to increase the retail prices of some models.

This led to declines in shipment volumes, especially in the entry tier segment, which limited the growth potential. As a result, market demand was met by mid-to high-tier smartphones that helped drive the quarter to a record revenue even with the declining shipments. Apple and Samsung refreshing their premium series with iPhone 13 series and Fold series respectively, added to the revenue growth”.

Apple will announce new iPhone 13 smartphones on September 14th at 10 a.m PDT and maybe will also show new Apple Watches and AirPods.

Apple will stream the event at apple.com or on the Apple TV app.

This year’s iPhones will likely resemble last year’s models but with a smaller “notch” cutout at the top of the screen, Bloomberg reported. The Apple Watch is expected to get its first major new design since it launched in 2015.

HP has launched the Spectre x360 14 convertible (2-in-1) laptop, powered by 11th Gen Intel Core processors and Windows 11

The laptop has the following specifications:

Integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics , a 360-degree hinge, which allows it to be used in the tablet mode, tent mode, flat lay, and any other way depending on the user’s preference.

HP has claimed the Spectre x360 14 laptop, which comes with Thunderbolt 4 support, offers battery life up to 17 hours. As for colour options, the laptop will be available in Poseidon Blue with accents of Pale Brass, Nightfall Black with Copper Luxe accents, and Natural Silver.

The HP Spectre x360 14 laptop, as the name suggests, has a 14-inch display with an aspect ratio of 3:2.

It has a screen-to-body ratio of 90.33 per cent, and comes with an adaptive battery optimiser.

The laptop features an optional OLED display with Eyesafe protection, minimising the strain caused by blue light.

Users familiar with webOS will immediately notice the attractive, updated home screen redesigned for enhanced usability to meet the needs of viewers’ everchanging content consumption habits. The new home screen provides faster access to the most frequently used apps and streamlines content discovery with the ability to receive recommendations based on the user’s preferences and viewing history. To show recommended content and related information at one glance, the new home is displayed full-screen as a central hub for settings and the greater webOS ecosystem.

Magic Tap, a one-touch Near Field Communication (NFC) function on the Magic Remote, provides virtually instant access to a host of exciting viewing possibilities.
