One of the features Apple wants you to get attention is the new Retina display on the new iPad. The TV Ad below take you there. Tim Cook said about it:

"Photos are just going to look amazing on that gorgeous high-resolution display."

It's 2048 x 1536, sure enough. That's 3.1 million pixels. "The most ever in a mobile device."

We're looking at 264ppi "and that is enough to call it a retina display."

The iPad, now, is expected to be held at 15 inches.

Samsung has made a comparison chart of some of the features the Galaxy Note 10.1 has and the New iPad hasn´t. (see chart below)

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 is essentially an upgraded version of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 with the added benefit of a Wacom digitizer, S-pen stylus and plenty of custom apps.

True:

The Galaxy Note 10.1 can view and work with two apps at the same time, and the new iPad can’t. True, as long as you’re using one of Samsung’s specialized apps that support Android’s instancing API (or another app that does).

The Galaxy Note is designed with precision writing and drawing with natural pen-based input, and the iPad isn’t. Also true, since the combination of an active Wacom-supplied digitizer and a pressure sensitive stylus makes for a degree of control and precision that just isn’t possible with a basic capacitive stylus.

Samsung also notes that the Note can handle precision photo and imaging editing. That’s debatable, since the editing capability is largely contingent upon the app one is using. But based on the previous precision points about the S-Pen, you could certainly make the case. Samsung points out that with the Galaxy Note 10.1 you can take notes in one app while viewing content in another. This is definitely a unique feature, and one that the iPad can’t emulate (out of the box, anyway) though Samsung says you could always carry along a real pen and paper as well.

Also on the checklist is a thinner and lighter frame (yes – the new iPad’s just a hair thicker than the old one, and Samsung’s Galaxy Tabs were already thinner than the iPad 2) an integrated infrared port for controlling a home theater, expandable MicroSD storage and USB host functionality for adding wired mice and keyboards. All true, though certain facts like the new iPad’s screen resolution, processor, camera, etc. aren’t touched on.

CeBIT2012: MultiTouch 3d motion sensor display . Video.

A joint venture undertaken by MultiTouch and the European Insistute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) ICT Labs has produced the first 3D motion sensing multi-touch wall which is currently being displayed at CeBIT 2012, Hannover, Germany.

The display wall comprises eight MultiTaction Cell 55in modular multi-touch displays and four Microsoft Kinect 3D motion-sensing cameras. It presents a Bubblescreen application which allows an unlimited number of participants to use the 5m-long screen at any one time.

A person who passes the display is picked-up by the cameras and bubbles on the screen react by following the subject's movement, luring the target to the fully interactive interface developed by EIT ICT Labs researchers, where they can then playfully learn about the company’s activities.

“The wall is an example of how EIT ICT Labs boost European competitiveness by bringing academic research, education and business together,” said Professor Marko Turpeinen, node director EIT ICT Labs Helsinki. “Cooperation with MultiTouch has brought added value to both parties”

Co-operation between the two companies has enabled EIT ICT Labs researchers to learn more about the delivery of information in public spaces using large interactive displays all over the world.

MultiTouch, originally established by researchers from Aalto University, which is one of the core partners of EIT ICT Labs Helsinki, has sold interactive displays in over 40 countries around the world and recently launched its third-generation MultiTaction product line.

“The display array, made of stackable MultiTaction Cells, recognises unlimited touch points which means we can accommodate a very large number of users. The Bubblescreen application using Kinect was developed by EIT ICT Labs with MultiTouch Cornerstone SDK. It is a fantastic example of how by merging technologies we can create new, innovative ways for human-computer interaction,” said Hannu Anttila, wp sales of MultiTouch.

With a dancing CCTV robot opening the show on its first day, all eyes will be on Cloud technology at CeBIT 2012. IBM introduced its latest cloud-based desktop streaming service and hardware - Secure Desktop Enterprise - to allow businesses to stream desktops with minimal fuss.

Meanwhile Fujitsu has developed over 40 software applications to help business with the transition to cloud technology, and other companies following suit.

CeBIT runs until 10 March.

Vodafone Germany will unveil new LTE devices at Cebit 2012, following the launch of the HTC Velocity 4G smartphone.

The HTC device has been available since 01 March for EUR 599.90 without a contract or from EUR 49.90 with a contract.

From April, it will offer the Samsung Galaxy S2 LTE smartphone, with pricing to be announced nearer to launch.

It will also launch the Asus TF700 LTE tablet at end-May, the Vodafone B2000 WLAN router in March, and the Vodafone R210 WiFi Box in April. The company's 4G mobile dat a network is now available to almost 10 million households, or more than 30 percent of the country, and its LTE services are currently used by over 120,000 customers.

Vodafone Germany will also unveil new UMTS handsets at CeBIT, including the Huawei Ascend G 300 Android smartphone. This will be available from 01 April from EUR 1 with a contract.

The BlackBerry Bold 9790 will be available in March from EUR 29.90 with a 24-month contract. It will also launch the HTC One X and One S smartphones; and the Sony Xperia P, Sony Xperia U, Motorola Defy mini and Motorola Gleam+ phones from April.

Google Play entertainment portal, launched.

Google has launched a new cloud-based entertainment portal, called Google Play. The platform will group existing services such as the Android Market, Google Music and the Google Bookstore, allowing users to buy, store and sync content across devices.

Goolge is also adding video rentals, initially offering 'thousands' of films, including new releases and HD titles.

The portal will be available from any web connection as well as Android phones and tablets.

The Android Market app will be upgraded to the Google Play Store app in the coming days, and video, book and music apps will also be upgraded to Google Play Movies, Google Play Books and Google Play Music apps.

Content already purchased from Google will still be available through Google Play, by logging on to the Google account.

To mark the launch, Google will be offering a different album, book, video rental and Android app at a special price each day for the next week in the '7 Days to Play' sale.

In the US, the first day's titles include the collection of top 40 hits Now That's What I Call Music 41, the popular game Where's My Water, the novel Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close and the movie Puncture for USD 0.25 each. In the US, the Google Play offering will include music, movies, books and Android apps.

In Canada and the UK, it will offer movies, books and Android apps; in Australia, books and apps; and in Japan, movies and apps. Everywhere else, Google Play will be the new home for Android apps.

Germany: Vodafone to provide SIMs for BMW connected cars. PR.

Vodafone Germany has inked a five-year deal with BMW to install specially adapted mobile SIMs in all new BMW ‘ConnectedDrive’ vehicles starting this summer.

The SIM will provide drivers with in-car services such as the BMW Online Services, a 24/7 personal concierge service and an emergency call function.

The deal between Vodafone Germany and the BMW Group involves fitting SIM cards within the vehicles at the assembly plant. In a statement, the operator said that the special SIM has a lifespan of more than ten years, can withstand temperatures from minus 40 to heat of 85 degrees centigrade and is coated with anti-corrosive protection.

The SIMs will also enable BMW to support ‘eCall’ - the automatic vehicle emergency call system that is being planned by the European Union. From 2015 onwards, all new cars will be fitted with latest mobile data connection and SIM card that automatically calls the emergency services in the event of an accident.

A recent study by Machina Research anticipates that 90 percent of new cars in 2020 will have some form of in-vehicle connectivity, creating a market worth about US$600 billion by this point.

BMW chooses Vodafone as its global M2M platform supplier.

All future BMW series vehicles will be fitted with a special Vodafone SIM chip which links BMW up to its vehicles and provides customers with access to innovative in-car services such as the BMW Online Services, a 24/7 personal concierge service for BMW drivers, and an emergency call function. The machine-to-machine (M2M) master services agreement has a five-year term and involves the implementation a significant number of SIM cards in the vehicles.

Jan Geldmacher, CCO Enterprise at Vodafone Germany, commented, “Our services facilitate networked driving and provide a driving experience that goes far beyond conventional mobility. The cooperation with BMW positions us in the lucrative automotive sector, one of the key M2M communication markets, and enables us to effectively demonstrate our global competence.“

The automotive sector will open the door to the M2M market for Vodafone, a market that analysts say is likely to generate around EUR 9 billion in revenues in 2012. In the future, the automotive market will be even more significant for the M2M sector. One of the key drivers is “eCall“, the automatic emergency call system in vehicles that the EU is planning. From 2015 onwards, all new cars will be fitted with a SIM chip that automatically calls the emergency services in accident situations. Vodafone is a global organisation with around 200 experts which puts it in the optimum position to provide an even more extensive range of M2M services in future. Vodafone provides services via 70 wireless networks on five continents. Almost one fifth of all mobile phones worldwide are registered in one of these networks.

The Vodafone Global SIM that will be built into future vehicles satisfies the tough requirements in the automotive sector. It has a lifespan of more than ten years and can withstand temperatures of between minus 40 and 85 degrees centigrade. It also has special protection against corrosion and was specifically designed for production line manufacturing operations. The chip will be supplied on a call-off basis and Vodafone will manage the chip activation and service processes according to the car production plants’ specifications.

RESTON, VA, March 6, 2012 – comScore, Inc. (NASDAQ: SCOR), a leader in measuring the digital world, today released data from the comScore MobiLens service, reporting key trends in the U.S. mobile phone industry during the three month average period ending January 2012. The study surveyed more than 30,000 U.S. mobile subscribers and found Samsung to be the top handset manufacturer overall with 25.4 percent market share. Google Android continued to grow its share in the smartphone market, accounting for 48.6 percent of smartphone subscribers.

OEM Market Share

For the three-month average period ending in January, 234 million Americans age 13 and older used mobile devices. Device manufacturer Samsung ranked as the top OEM with 25.4 percent of U.S. mobile subscribers, followed by LG with 19.7 percent share and Motorola with 13.2 percent share. Apple continued to capture share in the OEM market with 12.8 percent of total mobile subscribers (up 2.0 percentage points), while RIM rounded out the top five with 6.6 percent.

Smartphone Platform Market Share
The number of U.S. smartphone subscribers surpassed the 100-million mark in January, up 13 percent since October to 101.3 million subscribers. Google Android ranked as the top smartphone platform with 48.6 percent market share (up 2.3 percentage points) followed by Apple with 29.5 percent market share (up 1.4 percentage points). RIM ranked third with 15.2 percent share, followed by Microsoft (4.4 percent) and Symbian (1.5 percent).

Mobile Content Usage
In January, 74.6 percent of U.S. mobile subscribers used text messaging on their mobile device, up 2.8 percentage points. Downloaded applications were used by 48.6 percent of subscribers (up 4.8 percentage points), while browsers were used by 48.5 percent (up 4.5 percentage points). Accessing of social networking sites or blogs increased 3.4 percentage points to 35.7 percent of mobile subscribers. Game-playing was done by 31.8 percent of the mobile audience (up 2.6 percentage points), while 24.5 percent listened to music on their phones (up 3.3 percentage points).

The company has made the platform available for download via the Android Market, where users will find it as version 11.1.111.7 if their devices run Player Android 2.x or 3.x, or as version 11.1.115.7 if the device is based on Android 4.0.

The release notes for the new application flavor shows that there are some performance improvements that users will benefit from, along with fixes for issues related to security and stability.

Moreover, the release notes show that the latest update to Adobe Flash Player 11.1 offers compatibility with Android 4 supported devices.

USA: Nokia codenamed Prodigy and AC/DC with WP8 LTE smartphones coming to AT&T.

Nokia might have two other similar devices (to the Lumia 900) set to arrive on shelves at AT&T soon, both running under the upcoming Windows Phone 8 platform.

One of the said devices is reportedly codenamed “Prodigy” and should be a high-end smartphone, while the other is called “AC/DC” and should arrive as a mid-level device. Both will be LTE capable.

No specific info on them has emerged so far, nor on their possible launch dates.

Apple will announce tomorrow an iPad HD not the iPad 3 as was expected. Apple wants to promote its big new feature: the high-definition screen.

CNET has been told by a developer who's previously provided reliable information with respect to things Apple and otherwise tells them the next iPad uses the HD moniker instead of going with "iPad 3."

That matches up well with a report from Gizmodo last week (and an item just posted on VentureBeat) that included an alleged list of upcoming cases from Griffin, listing the product as "iPad HD (3)", as well as corresponding usage reports from an application called Tapatalk that included "iPad HD" among the list of devices using it.

Apple has been known to tack simple modifiers onto its product names before, so a name like the iPad HD wouldn't be unprecedented. For instance, in the fifth major version of its iMovie software (part of iLife), Apple added support for 720p and 1080i video, and also dropped the version number in favor of calling it iMovie HD.

Based on the latest rumors the iPad HD ( 3 ) might come with a Apple A6 Quad-Core cpu, 8 mpxls rear camera, 1GB RAM, Retina Display, SIRI Ai, 4G.

SEEBURGER Technology to Be Included in New HP cCell Services.

SEEBURGER and HP Germany today announced an agreement making SEEBURGER File Exchange (SEE FX), a solution for secure, traceable and compliant user-to-user file sharing, available on HP's new cCell Services platform. The multi-tenant and private cloud options of HP cCell Services include a pay-per-use, HP-managed 'cloud in a box' that can be deployed in the customer's own data center to avoid capital outlays and maintain data on company premises. A first preview of the joint solution will be demonstrated at Cloud Computing World in Hall 4, Booth A58 at this week's CeBIT conference in Hannover, Germany.

SEE FX is a core component of SEEBURGER's multiple-award-winning SEEBURGER Managed File Transfer (SEE MFT) solution and is part of the widely adopted SEEBURGER Business Integration Suite (BIS), a comprehensive B2B integration platform that helps organizations enhance the value of their SAP deployments as well as achieve new business efficiencies by solving complex integration needs. SAP AG today announced the SAP® Business One OnDemand solution, a new offering that aims to build upon the broad market success of the SAP Business One application, addressing small enterprise preferences for minimal up-front cost and lower IT operations. The announcement was made at CeBIT 2012, being held March 6-10 in Hanover, Germany.

To be offered by trusted partners, including Hungarian Telecom, itelligence, Seidor, Singtel, Versino and Virtustream, the on-demand solution is planned to be comprehensive, easy to consume and available with transparent, predictable costs. It will target smaller companies seeking a single offering with deep business functionality, as well as support for sales, purchasing, inventory and finance business processes.

SAP intends to provide SAP Business One OnDemand through qualified partners as well as further extendibility and industry offerings as required. The recommended concept to partners is a monthly subscription fee per user. Initially, the solution is planned for availability in 18 countries, including Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, China, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Mexico, the Netherlands, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States. The Windows 8 Consumer Preview offers a more robust experience for testing the world's most popular operating system and is available to the widest range of people yet following the initial release of the Windows 8 Developer Preview late last year.

At an event in NYC , Samsung has unveiled its new flagship control peripherals--the Smart Touch Remote and optional Smart Wireless Keyboard--at an event in New York today.

The new remote will ship with the company's Smart Interaction televisions, the ES7500 and ES8000 LED and E8000 plasma. The keyboard is an optional accessory.

Samsung now offers the $99 Bluetooth Smart Wireless Keyboard, which it says will also work with smartphones and tablets.

Both units feature a touch pad used for navigating the Web browser and the Smart Hub interface-the "home screen" of Samsung's smart TVs-as well as "hard buttons' for often-used functions such as channel up/down and volume.

The remote control features an onboard microphone for voice commands, and instead of featuring dedicated playback buttons, the remote's touch pad features a four-color icon that brings up an onscreen display. Pressing the icon brings up regularly used functions such as Play and Red, Green, Yellow, and Blue.

A touch pad remote will ship with three series of Samsung TVs this year.

one2TOUCH is offering silicone keyboards that connect to smartphones and tablets simply by laying the mobile device on top - no pairing required

The keyboards feature "Touch & Type" functionality and have a pad that the device can rest on. In the case of one smartphone keyboard, a pad in the center where the phone rests separates left- and right-hand keys.

A second model requires the phone to rest along the top edge of the keyboard in order to connect. Once sitting on the keyboard, the phone connects to the keyboard via NFC and is ready to receive input. The silicone keyboard is waterproof, and folds to fit into a bag or pocket.

The design works universally among most smartphones as there is no phone-specific cradle. However it does require a driver to be installed on the mobile device. The company says these will be available for download from the Android Market or the App Store. The Android driver will be available first with a driver for Apple devices released when Apple releases NFC capable devices.

"Many people are using smartphones and tablets in ways that require more than fingertip scrolling, pointing and pressing on the touchscreen. Whether you're typing notes, social networking, or emailing, both mobile devices and keyboard greatly extend flexibility when it comes to creating content with full screen view," said Øyvind Holtedahl, CEO for one2TOUCH.

NFC is used for connectivity between the smartphone or device and the keyboard so that once contact is made, the keyboard is connected. The technology doesn't require pairing, which is necessary for Bluetooth and other personal area network (PAN) standards. While many PAN devices operate up to a certain distance from each other, the one2TOUCH keyboard does require contact.

The larger size of most tablets, relative to a smartphone, offer design opportunities for the keyboard. one2TOUCH is showing a case that unfolds to reveal a keyboard. While there may be some universal cases that address a number of tablets with a certain screen size, model-specific case/keyboard combos will be required.

Currently one2TOUCH has a distribution partner in Japan and is also looking for partners in the U.S. and European markets. Pricing details are not yet available.

For tablets the keyboard is also a protective case.

HTC has announced it will cooperate with Ploycom to implement Polycom's RealPresence Mobile software in new smartphones and tablets that are scheduled for launch in mid-2012.

Telefónica Digital and Mozilla unveiled an ambitious strategy to create a new mobile platform that will deliver the first HTML5 based devices running on the open Web. The Open Web Devices platform (OWD), which will launch in 2012,is an important step forward in the establishment of HTML5 as the next major ecosystem for smartphones, and will enable the delivery of smartphone capabilities at low price points.

Telefónica Digital’s product development and innovation team has worked closely together with Mozilla, the pioneers of open Web standards, to create a new phone architecture that relies entirely on the Web, enabling HTML 5 applications with absolute access to core phone APIs. This means that all of the device’s capabilities (calling, messaging, browsing, games etc) can be developed as HTML5 applications and executed via an experience based on the Firefox Web browser.

Despite the significant gains in performance for Web Technologies on mobile devices, HTML and JavaScript-based applications have had limited access to the device’s underlying capabilities. This platform will lead the evolution of the HTML5 set of standards to add new software APIs that are as broad and functionally rich as their native counterparts.

Mozilla’s Boot to Gecko Project unlocks the current limitations of Web development for mobile by providing new features and APIs that will demonstrate just how powerful HTML5 can be and that it is possible to run an entire device using this technology. In doing so it is possible to remove much of the middleware and other superfluous software on a device which not only makes the applications run faster, but also brings down the device unit cost.

Because of this initiative’s commitment to openness, this reference implementation will be submitted for standardization to W3C. The objective is that there are no proprietary APIs within the device architecture, making phones developed using it the only truly open devices on the market.

Telefónica and Mozilla are developing this HTML5 operating system on a hardware platform that is based upon a Qualcomm chipset. The three companies will be collaborating to deliver a feature rich prototype platform that will enable smartphone capabilities at feature phone entry level pricing.

An operating system based on HTML5 offers significant opportunities for application developers, content owners and service providers, both in terms of enabling new capabilities, as well as making it easier to develop, deploy and maintain their applications.

According to Carlos Domingo, Director of Product Development & Innovation at Telefónica Digital: 'Telefónica's objective is to drive HTML5 adoption across the industry. For the first time the capabilities of HTML5 and the open Web have been fully leveraged to create an entirely new mobile platform. From our experience in Latin America we know that a huge part of the market is not being catered for by current smartphones. Telefónica R + D started working on the OWD concept at the start of 2011, and developed an initial prototype for negotiations with potential partners. Telefónica y Mozilla impulsan los primeros dispositivos abiertos basados en HTML5.

- Ambas compañías harán posibles dispositivos HTML5 abiertos y que ofrezcan prestaciones de smartphone a precios de teléfonos funcionales básicos.

- Las capacidades se enviarán al Consorcio World Wide Web (W3C) para su estandarización y para facilitar así su libre accesibilidad.

- Se ofrecerán así nuevas oportunidades para desarrolladores de aplicaciones e impulsar HTML5 como estándar multiplataforma.

Telefónica Digital y Mozilla han dado a conocer una ambiciosa estrategia para crear una nueva plataforma de telefonía móvil que permitirá ofrecer los primeros dispositivos abiertos. La plataforma de Dispositivos de Web Abiertos u Open Web Devices (OWD por sus siglas en inglés), que se lanzará en 2012, supone un importante paso para hacer de HTML5 el próximo gran ecosistema de smartphones, y permitirá ofrecer capacidades propias de éstos a precios reducidos.

El área de Desarrollo de Productos e Innovación de Telefónica Digital ha colaborado estrechamente con Mozilla, los pioneros de los estándares de Web abierta, para crear una nueva arquitectura de teléfono basada enteramente en la Web, habilitando aplicaciones HTML5 con acceso absoluto a funcionalidades básicas del teléfono mediante interfaces de programación de aplicaciones (API). Esto significa que todas las capacidades del dispositivo (llamadas, mensajes, navegación, juegos, etc.) podrían desarrollarse como aplicaciones HTML5 y ejecutarse a través del navegador de Internet Firefox.

A pesar de las mejoras del rendimiento de las tecnologías Web en dispositivos móviles, las aplicaciones basadas en HTML y JavaScript han tenido acceso limitado a las capacidades subyacentes del dispositivo. La plataforma impulsará la evolución del conjunto de estándares HTML5 para añadir nuevas API de software tan amplias y generales como sus homólogas nativas.

El proyecto BoottoGecko de Mozilla desbloquea las actuales limitaciones de desarrollo web para móviles al ofrecer nuevas API y prestaciones que demostrarán lo potente que puede ser HTML5, y que posibilitará que un dispositivo funcione enteramente mediante esta tecnología. Con ello será posible eliminar gran parte del software intermedio (middleware) y otro software innecesario de un dispositivo, lo cual no solo agilizará el funcionamiento de las aplicaciones, sino que también reducirá el coste unitario del dispositivo.

Debido al compromiso de esta iniciativa de desarrollo abierta, esta implantación de referencia se remitirá al Consorcio World Wide Web (W3C) para su estandarización. El objetivo es que no haya APIs privadas en la arquitectura del dispositivo, lo que convierte los teléfonos desarrollados en los únicos dispositivos realmente abiertos del mercado.

Telefónica y Mozilla están desarrollando este sistema operativo HTML5 para una plataforma de hardware basada en un chipset de Qualcomm. Las tres empresas colaborarán para ofrecer un prototipo de plataforma con multitud de prestaciones que habilitará capacidades de smartphone a un precio de teléfono funcional básico.

Un sistema operativo basado en HTML5 ofrece importantes oportunidades para desarrolladores de aplicaciones, propietarios de contenidos y proveedores de servicios, tanto en lo referente a habilitar nuevas capacidades como a facilitar el desarrollo, la implantación y el mantenimiento de sus aplicaciones.

Según Carlos Domingo, director de Desarrollo de Producto e Innovación en Telefónica Digital: 'El objetivo de Telefónica es impulsar la adopción de HTML5 en todo el sector. Por primera vez, las capacidades de HTML5 se han aprovechado plenamente para crear una plataforma para teléfonos móviles enteramente nueva. Gracias a nuestra experiencia en Latinoamérica sabemos que los smartphones actuales no cubren la demanda de gran parte del mercado. Con nuevos dispositivos de Web abierta podremos ofrecer una experiencia de smartphone al precio adecuado para esos consumidores'.

'Desde hace tiempo nuestro objetivo es ofrecer tecnologías Web avanzadas que eliminen obstáculos para usuarios y desarrolladores. Primero lo hicimos con Firefox, y ahora vamos a hacerlo de nuevo creando los primeros OWD', señaló Brendan Eich, CTO de Mozilla. 'Al facilitar los enlaces que faltan, Mozilla va a liberar ahora el potencial de la Web como plataforma para crear y consumir multitud de contenidos en cualquier parte'.

ArnoGourdol, director senior Web Platform&Authoring de Adobe, que apoya al proyecto, afirmó: 'En Adobe estamos encantados ante el lanzamiento de esta nueva iniciativa de Telefónica y Mozilla. Seguimos invirtiendo en productos y tecnologías HTML5 y apoyando a organismos de estándares como el W3C. Las APIs de Open Web Devices pueden ser soportadas como extensiones en PhoneGap, con lo que los desarrolladores podrán crear gan variedad de aplicaciones HTML5 que funcionan tanto para estos nuevos dispositivos de la plataforma de Web abierta como para el resto de plataformas que soporta PhoneGap incluyendo Android, Balckberry, iOs y Windows Phone'.

Telefónica I+D empezó a trabajar en la idea de OWD a principios de 2011, y desarrolló un prototipo inicial para las negociaciones con posibles socios. Cuando Mozilla anunció el proyecto 'BoottoGecko' para crear la plataforma de web abierta, basada en su popular navegador Firefox en julio de 2011, ambas compañías se embarcaron en un proyecto de colaboración que dio lugar a la plataforma que se da a conocer esta semana.

Solana Dual-OS Laptop-Tablet with Flip-Rotate Screen by Novero

Novero created the Solana laptop-tablet hybrid device, which uses a flip-rotating screen to switch from slate to notebook form factors, and vice versa.

In much the same manner, the newcomer can choose which of its two operating systems to use at any given time.

One of them is Google's Android 2.3.7, while the other is Microsoft's Windows 7 (Windows 8 is supported as well).

“By introducing Solana we have marked the next milestone in offering intelligent and affordable, multi-feature products which perfectly match today's professional consumer needs,” said Razvan Olosu, CEO, at novero.

“The idea to merge a laptop and a tablet as such is not ground breaking at all. However, the way we have designed Solana's body and brain, combining two of the most widely used operating systems, Windows and Android, and addressing the needs of the mobile business community to carry a single device for both productivity and entertainment is unique and outstanding.”

Spec-wise, the newcomer uses a dual-core Intel Atom N2600 Cedar Trail processor, 3.5G broadband support, a 32 GB-128 GB SSD, a microSD card slot, a 10-inch LCD and 2 GB of DDR3 RAM.

The price is of 550 Euro in Europe and around $699 in the US.

“I am proud that the esprit and the extraordinary capabilities of Solana do mirror the teamwork and brainpower of our development and design teams in Canada, Germany and Denmark,” the CEO stated.

Is Apple testing iOS 6.0 ?

Server log entries identified as coming from Apple’s Cupertino campus in California indicate that iOS 6.0 testing is underway using iPad tablet computers and an unreleased version of WebKit, the layout engine designed to allow iTunes and Apple’s Safari web browser to render web pages.

While looking at iPad user agents coming from Apple's corporate IP block in Cupertino, California, Ars Technica recently discovered that Apple was accessing the Internet from iPads running iOS 6.0. Or so say the web logs highlighted in yellow in the screenshot to the left (click to enlarge).

Looking at the bigger picture, we can see that Apple is testing how the web displays on iPads running iOS 5, iOS 5.0.1 (the current version available to the general population), iOS 5.1 (the beta OS currently being tested by Apple developers worldwide), and, finally, iOS 6.

The iOS 6 test machines also appear to be using a newer version of WebKit - build 535.8.

With the iPad 3 on its way next week, and Apple putting the finishing touches on iOS 5.1 GM builds, we can safely assume that the iOS 6 unveiling will be reserved for the iPhone 5 launch later on this year.

There has been much debate as to whether the next iPhone will be confirmed at the next annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 12) this summer, or later, in fall - just like the iPhone 4S.

Sources quoted by Japanese blog Macotakara, whose reporting on Apple rumors has been somewhat accurate lately, said “the next iPhone will be released in September or October.” Moreover, the sources said in February, Apple plans to keep this cycle “for years.”

Apple was already believed to have shifted the iPhone refresh cycle to fall, due to its delayed iPhone refresh last year.
