Glory to God - I wanted to start out the service with something familiar. I chose this song because I knew Marsh had led the congregation several times with this and because it is a fun song. It is a great feeling hearing hundreds of people sing glory to god.

Song of Hope - This is THE song I have been relating with lately. From a musical standpoint, it sounds great and from a spiritual standpoint, I think it has some very profound words. My favorite line has to be "All things new, I can start again". I love how refreshing that reminder is. When we think we have hit rock bottom, we have a promise that things can be different tomorrow. I love the forgiving nature of our God.

Forever Reign - This song is a staple in Student Union. Our students crave it and ask for it consistently when I take requests. This song took on an entirely different meaning for me at High School Winter Camp several months ago. We were in the middle of a worship set and the singer started singing the bridge to this song, "My heart will sing, no other name but Jesus, Jesus". I had a total God moment right there. I began thinking about all the things that my heart had been singing and came up with an extensive list. I realized I needed to let go of those things before I was actually able to sing the real words. I think about that moment every time I sing that part now.

One Things Remains - This was the first time I had led this song. I heard it for the first time done well about a month ago when I was in Denver with Student Union. The words and melody come together in a way to make me think just how much God loves us.

From the Inside Out - This song is awesome because it starts out with an extremely humbling statement. "A thousand times I've failed still your mercy remains". I love that the song brings us to where we need to be in order to get all that we can out of worshipping him.

Jesus Paid It All - The longer I have been doing this, the more I realize the power in words. I feel like a lot of newer songs might sound catchy but really don't have the substance that we need in order to get something out of it. This is a song that both sounds great and is full of great words and meanings.

Always - Dave spoke on this song this week. He did a great job linking the brokenness that we experience with the grace of God. "Oh my God, He will not delay, my refuge and strength always". Again this is a song full of great words. It was awesome having the congregation experience this song as it was intended.

Your Grace Is Enough - I always seem to forget this song is around. Any song that gets our minds focused on God's faithfulness to His word should be sung. Our God does not forget us - He has won us!

The Same Love - A new favorite of mine. This song makes me feel big and small at the same time. God waved His hand to create ranges of mountains that we can't span, and yet took care to mould us into being, and continues to care for us.

All Because of Jesus - This tune is one that I've been playing for 4 or 5 years. I remember when it came out I was drawn to the chorus because it's an unashamed confession, "It's all because of Jesus I'm alive." If I really believe that then it is going to shape the way I live my life: or at least it should.

Mighty to Save - This tune is one of the great anthems of the last 5 years. One of the things I said in the middle of singing with the church was "there is none like our God." You see, as far as my knowledge extends, there is not another major religion in which a god builds a bridge between himself and creation. Other gods require some sort of works based means of salvation, but our God requires death as atonement for sin... a death that was given up in Jesus. Now we come to him freely without shame... He is a good God.

From the Inside Out - This is a great song. It is a little more on the 'feely' side of things, but regardless of that, when you look at the words and really allow them to become your own, this song becomes a great confession of failure and a great recognition of redemption. After All (Holy) - This is the tune I've been wanting to play for the past 5 months. I make fun of my wife, Sondra, when she finds a song she loves... she will play it over and over and over. How Great Thou Art - This week we took a different feel on How Great Thou Art and made it edgier and slightly more current. I can't take credit for arranging it that way, that version comes from a band called Ascend the Hill. I figured this might be a good opportunity to do an updated version of an older hymn.

Forever Reign - Our students have latched onto this song in a really cool way. The bridge to the song (I seem to like the bridges to songs) is: "My heart will sing no other name but Jesus". I think a lot times our hearts sing a lot of other things and this song is a great reminder that all it needs to sing is "Jesus". Jesus Paid it All- This is another updated version of an older hymn. I think its somewhat rare when current songs have both strong and resounding lyrics and sound great musically. This song has both and is a great reminder that Christ made the ultimate sacrifice for us.

Holy Is The Lord - We walk in to the Mountain Park building from a lot of different places and head spaces, and I know that it's difficult to engage from time to time. That's why I love this song - it calls me to look around and see that God is still God no matter my circumstance, even though sometimes those circumstances are very tough.

Everlasting God - This tune is like a little scripture memory lesson. Sometimes I have a difficult time remembering something that I've read or studied, but singing it sticks with me. "Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord," it's not just a little lyric - it's in Isaiah 40:31!

Hosanna - Sometimes we, okay I, need a little kick in the pants. This song hits me a little like "Man In The Mirror." The lyric we sing together says that we "see a generation rising up to take their place with selfless faith." How many of us actually see that? How He Loves - I don't know the frame of mind of this songwriter at the time he penned this, but the truth of the lyric and the passion of the melody resonates with us. It seems as if he's trying to convince or console himself in this song, and all of the sudden - God grants him that. I think this song is a gift to us.

Lead Us On - I have been listening to Kristian Stanfill for the past several years and thought that this tune was perfect for where we are as a church. I feel like we are experiencing times of prosperity in many ways and it might be easy to forget that God is the one who prospers our lives... so to sing a confession to God of "lead us on, to light and revelation! Lead us on to your hear, your purpose and your passion!" is just about the best thing we could sing.

My Savior, My God - This tune has been around for the past 5 years and with a song that is as seasoned as this one, it might come easy to just go through the motions without injecting any emotion... Jesus Paid It All - There are few songs in our lives that almost pair up with our days and serve as somewhat of a soundtrack... this is one of those few for me. It seems like the most significant times of growth that I have experienced have been accompanied by this song. It is rare to find a tune that articulates the Gospel so clearly... most of the stuff on Air1 doesn't even touch the poetry of lyric found in this song. I am grateful for it every time we sing together!

Absolutely - I think this is my favorite song to sing. It's by my favorite worship band, Starfield (who just released a new project, so watch out). Sometimes songs "call me out" on stuff - this one, with the "down upon my knees, I'm lost in worship" lyric, can catch me just "lost." I'm not always in the proper frame of mind or heart. How Great Is Our God - I am having kind of a Renaissance with this song. It is really speaking to me lately, and hopefully to everyone else as well. I think I'm a little taken by the notion of God as King. We don't have a king here in America, we never have, and most likely never will. We didn't grow up singing God Save The King or anything that pointed to royalty - it's just Disney to us. BUT - HE IS KING OF ALL! So, starting with "the splendor of a King," is capturing my heart.

The Stand - There is a heritage that we have when we become followers of Christ. There is a work, and a love that becomes the steady ground beneath us - strong, and firm, and never shifting. I love that this song starts with that truth, and then calls us to stand up and proclaim it.

The Saving One - I had the privilege of speaking on the morning Marsh chose to introduce this song for the first time. He had told me ahead of time that he would be doing it and I even read the lyrics, but when he started playing it, right before I got to speak, something inside of me got fired up and I lost my composure... Hosanna - When I first heard this tune I wasn't a fan, but sometimes it takes a while for melody to grown on you. Blessed Be Your Name - There is nothing better than singing scripture. Job 1:21 "The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord." I love when we sing songs that come directly from scripture because no matter where we are at in our faith walk, there can be no doubt that when we sing scripture God's truth is proclaimed. For me it can be easy to sing "you give and take away, LORD blessed be your name," but actually living like that is a challenge. This song is a reminder that God is the giver of every good gift.

Unashamed - This song gives us all the words that are sometimes so hard to find. Words of humbleness, words of brokenness. So often I find it hard to humble myself before God but when a song like this is being played, the words are right there and all there is left to do is to own them and sing them straight to Jesus.

Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone) - Chris Tomlins addition fo the "my chains are gone" has brought new life into one of the few dozen songs that has lasted throughout the years. If you stop and think about it, there are very few songs that proclaim God's glory which are so widely accepted and known. Amazing Grace allows anyone to engage with our God and adding the new chorus to this accessible song brings a deeper level of personal conviction that may do marvelous things to grow God's kingdom.

Your Love Never Fails - "You make all things work together for my good." That is such a great statement. This is an adaptation from Romans 8:28 which states "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." I love the promise of that, both Biblically and in song form.

Divine Romance - This is a new song to a lot of the congregation but I think it has a good feel to it and it also has a great message. "For You I sing and I dance, Rejoice in this divine romance, Lift my heart and my hands, To show my love." This song calls you to be demonstrative in your worship, to lift your hands and to examine your heart.

Beautiful Scandalous Night - With the new response times that we have been having at the end of the services, I thought this is song was perfect. First reason being, that part of the response times involves the cross at the front of the sanctuary and in this song there is tons of imagery talking about the cross. Second reason being, that this song tells a salvation story. We have all sinned and through Jesus' Crucifixion we have a chance to be "forever washed white".

How He Loves - This is one of my favorite songs to play. It has tons of beautiful imagery and makes you think long and hard about your relationship with God. There have been plenty of times that I have lead this song where I have had a "God moment" and this past Sunday was no different. Above All - I still love this song. Lori and I had some friends visit recently, and we sat around the piano at the house and sang songs. One of our guests started singing this tune, and I was reminded and overcome by how selfless AND obedient Christ had to be so that I could taste victory over sin.

From the Inside Out - This seems to be a song we all rally around. I'm glad that we do - if we are internalizing this song, then we are asking ourselves to bend to the will of Christ. I pray that God would use this and all of the songs we sing for continued transformation. I want to see us glow like Christ.

Son of God - I think we do almost every song from this Starfield record! I played this song for the first time the week before when Marsh lead. I couldn’t get it out of my head so I knew I had to play it this week. In the course of 2 short verses the song covers just about everything you need to know.

How He Loves - Probably the most poetic song we do. Most worship tunes are fairly literal or filled with metaphor that is more cliché than cutting edge. Favorite lyric, “...if His grace is an ocean, we’re all sinking....”.

Jesus Messiah - It wouldn’t be Sunday without a Chris Tomlin song. We started the song with Dave Parks playing a military snare like on the record. It completely changes the way I hear the lyric making it more meaningful somehow. The first verse is the ultimate picture of going beyond forgiveness. I felt like it would provide a good lead in to Allen’s message.

Beautiful Scandelous Night - “Come on up to the mountain of mercy...” If you were sitting in your chair thinking you wanted to participate in a more meaningful way the opening line provides the invitation you need. The intro of this song is so cool. Dave Herring played the piano line real slow and simple and then the band comes in emphasizing the waltz feel. Very different from most of what we do. I worked a lot on the vocal this week listening to the recording and working to convey the emotional heft of lyric and hit the higher notes in the chorus.

Your Love Never Fails - Trevor Tillery, former MPCC band member, was out a few months ago and I got to lead worship with him. I asked him to pick a song to sing and he picked Your Love Never Fails. I hadn’t heard it before then. I like the imagery in the song and I love the bridge, “You make, all things, work together for my good.”

Sing, Sing, Sing - I love jumping right in sometimes, and this song about God's character makes it fun - a great call to worship.

My Glorious - This is an oldy but a goodie. I chose this song for a couple reasons. 1) it has an awesome guitar solo (and I love guitar solo's) and 2) it reminds me that God is bigger than everything. He is bigger than the "air I breathe". I also read that line to mean God can overcome any issues we might having in our lives. He is bigger than all of them.

Let God Arise - This is a great pump up song. It's full of energy and gets stuck in my head easily. I like how the words paint a picture of Gods power. "Hear the holy roar of God resound"... That does not give you an image of a timid God but a powerful creator.

Your Love Never Fails - This is a relatively new song in Student Union. I love this song for musical reasons but also because it talks about how immense God's love for us is. It also highlights the perfection of God. As a culture, we put our faith in things that consistently fail us, but "God's love never fails."

Revelation Song - I was fortunate enough to have Lauren Bailey sing with me this week. She has an beautiful voice which is part of why I chose this song. The chorus to this song is out of Revelation 4 where John talks about creatures worshipping at the throne of God. John uses powerful imagery in that passage to display the power of Gods presence. You can't go wrong with a song that has Scripture for a chorus!

From the Inside Out - I always love playing this song. It's definitely one of my favorites. The words to this song are awesome. It highlights confession, grace and the fact that God will always be there.
