Arth at Warcraft Hunters Union: The first level 85 all-hunter raid took place and was….well, a good time, and informative.  But we ended up raiding with 10, not 25, and some of our participants were undergeared.  However dedicated and skilled, it’s clear that we’ll need to outgear the content we’re attempting in order to clear bosses with only hunters.  The holiday weekend didn’t help attendance either, so I’m expecting things [to] improve dramatically.

So we’re instituting some changes, the first of which is that cross-realm participants will now be accepted.  This should be great news for many of you, and the fact that we’re tackling dungeons like ICC, Baradin Hold, and BWD means that you won’t have to worry about your weekly DS lockout.

We’re sticking with Saturdays, at the same time.  The next will be Saturday, June 9, at 5pm server time (6pm Central, 7pm Eastern).  Expect to raid for 2-3 hours.  And if you want to pop on early, great.  I’ll make no bones about making decisions based on experience and gear, so I can’t guarantee spots, but if you’re prepared, you’ll probably be in. . . . Frostheim at Warcraft Hunters Union: The latest from the beta includes MMO-Champion datamining the tier 14 hunter gear set, and a change to Trueshot Aura. The latest version of TSA has removed the 5% crit buff from Trueshot Aura, so that it now just provides the 10% AP buff. As a reminder, Trueshot Aura is now a baseline hunter ability that is available to all specs.

At the start of the beta hunters were given the 5% crit buff in addition to 10% AP. As the beta giveth, so too does the beta taketh away and it looks like now we’ll only be bringing the 5% crit buff from our pets. I can’t complain too much about this, though it was nice to bring more to the table and at one point it was looking like the philosophy was to have the pure dps classes bringing more to the buff table than the hybrids. I can only assume that in the big buff picture the 5% crit was overrepresented and hunters were chosen as the place to lose it.

But as long as we have an even shot of topping the charts, I’m not really concerned which buffs we bring — after all, with our pets we can fill just about any hole we need anyway. . . . Read full article

The Godmother at ALT:ernative: When I think about the blogging community I have become a part of over the last year, I’m staggered at the sheer range of personalities and attitudes that exist side by side. Yes, there are moments and flashpoints, but in the main people are remarkably tolerant, and amazingly generous in people’s moments of crisis. However, I think there’s still a lot of work to be done in making people feel they really are part of a place where they are important, and where their voice matters. It can sometimes be very lonely out here: just because no-one responds to a post or has nothing to say when you Tweet, it doesn’t mean that people don’t care. It just means there’s a lot more to a community than the people who make the noise. Everyone sometimes appreciates the comfort of being a silent majority, especially if more pressing individual issues come to the fore. A true community isn’t just about the big events and the contentious topics, after all.

If you’re having a bad day, you should feel able to talk about it with your friends, wherever they happen to be. If you don’t like the place in your game you are at right now, you have the power to change it, it just takes confidence to make the move. If you know deep down it is a place you want to stay in, then you just need to find the right spot that fits you. That’s where the community comes in: talk to them, ask their advice. Sometimes a change is all you need to completely reinvigorate yourself. However, if deep down you know the answer is to not be part of this place any more, then have the confidence to move on. The true friends you have made will understand and still be there.

Never forget you are part of something significant the moment you choose to share your thoughts with others: in game, on a blog, in a group. What you feel and say does matter, and you may be surprised who is listening when you do. . . . Read full article

Steevnash: Hello Fellow Hunters, uploaded a few videos about soloing Sunwell Plateau for two very desirable bows:

As soon as you zone in you can mount and skip all of the trash.  The first boss, Kalecgos, is not solo’able, but he is skippable!  Just mount past him as well.  Three of the bosses are relatively easy.  Two of them are a bit more difficult depending on your gear level.  M’uru and the Eredar Twins might give you a bit of trouble but after a few attempts you’ll get the flow down and get some drops!

Brutallis

He is the second boss in SWP, but the first boss that is solo’able. The first boss of the raid and all the trash leading up to Brutallus can be skipped by simply mounting up inside the instance and riding past them, using FD if you get into any trouble and remounting.

Any MM spec is probably fine for this encounter.

Felmyst

This is a video showing how to solo Felmyst, pretty straight forward fight, the only real danger is the Fog of Corruption that you have to keep an eye on. If it hits you you will be MC’d and probably kill your pet which will reset the fight.

Eredar Twins (Grand Warlock Alythess and Lady Sacrolash)

A How-To hunter video for solo’ing the Eredar Twins in Sunwell Plateau. The strat I use is burning down Lady Sacrolash while positioning myself to take as little amount of damage as possible throughout the encounter by avoiding a few key abilities from the Twins.

This boss drops an amazing looking bow in the Golden Bow of Quel’thalas, popular for transmog sets.

It includes Intervene which you will need when you’re killing Grand Warlock after Lady has been killed.

M’uru

The fight is all about balancing out DPS time on the adds, which is only applying dps to the adds when they begin to overwhelm your pet and when you can hit multiple groups of adds with your Multishots.

Kil’jaeden

This is a video for solo’ing Kil’Jaeden for the Legendary Bow, Thori’dal, the Stars’ Fury. A pretty easy encounter, much simpler than M’uru or Eredar Twins.

There is one ability that Kil’Jaeden has that you will need an Intervene from your pet to cover.

Frostheim at Warcraft Hunters Union: Any list of the most influential hunters that have made big contributions to the hunter community would include Mania. She maintains Petopia, the go-to source for pet information for all hunters, a complete and comprehensive source for all hunter pet info. In addition she built what I think are the greatest hunter forums on the web — the one place that has a friendly and welcoming community, rather than one with tons of trolls and asshats spoiling the experience for new hunters trying to learn.

Over on her blog Mania just made the post, I Have a Tumor, revealing that she’s been diagnosed with cancer, specifically myxoid liposarcoma. It is apparently not as bad as it might have been (2 years to live), but it’s nonetheless bad and really shitty news. Mania will be going into surgery soon and with luck will be left with enough muscle in her leg to retain full use of it. In her post Mania says, “I’m  pretty annoyed about the entire thing, especially since it’s happening during the Mists of Pandaria beta” which I think we can agree is a fairly badass reaction.

I can’t imagine there’s much we can do to make her feel better, other than to express our sympathy and let her know how much we appreciate her and are pulling for her.

You can hop over to her post and leave a comment there. Alternatively, let me suggest that you could create a motivational poster (perhaps pet-related?)  in support of Mania, or suggest the item and flavor text for an in-game item in Mania’s honor, which I think is overdue anyway. Mushan at Mushan, Etc.: Just wanted to mention a very interesting article today by Matt Rossi at WoW Insider, entitled Mists of Pandaria Beta: The evolution of itemization.  Check it out.

The topic of itemization is one of ongoing interest, not only because the article looks at the evolution of itemization throughout the game’s history, but because of the fact that I am (as are many others, I’m sure) somewhat anxiously awaiting the final lists of the gear that will be available at launch.

As these start to take shape over the next couple of months or so, we’ll be able to look at the available gear for our classes and specializations.  We’ll plot out reputation priorities and dungeon / Raid Finder drop goals, crafted items we’d like to acquire, quest chains to make certain to complete, profession switches (if any), wish lists for Valor Point purchases, and so on.  For my hunter, I know I’ll be looking to Frostheim, WoW Hunters Hall, and several other sources for best-in-slot lists, gear rankings for each slot, and other insightful tidbits, as well as doing my own research (and yes, totally salivating over certain pieces) and deciding for myself how to budget playing time and gold as I prepare for raiding. . . . Outdps, Call to Auction, the Hunting Party Podcast… what can you tell us about these?

I started OutDPS to talk about hunters and raiding what feels like a very long time ago. I’ve been incredibly lucky to have some incredible writers to collaborate with, like Eidotrope, but as my day job and writing gig at WoW Insider have eaten up more and more of my time, the site has ended up being a place I mostly only use to post the podcast episodes. I still intend to write more editorial content there, but it’s hard to find time.

The Hunting Party podcast started relatively early in the life of the blog, and I’ve been astounded about its popularity. Hunters really do have the best community . . . Read full article
