Mayor Mike And The Anti-Gay Cabbie

NYC cab driver, Medhat Mohamed, is now feeling the heat after city officials became aware that he ejected a gay couple from his cab and refused them service because the two men hugged each other in the backseat. Although his boss, Mahmoud Elnefnawy, who owns the taxi medallion, tried to defend him by saying that his Islamic religion was the reason for the episode, “In our religion, we can't handle that stuff" he stated. But city officials such as the Speaker for the New York City Council, Christine Quinn, and newly re-elected Mayor, Mike Bloomberg, made clear that the city stands squarely against such bigoted behavior. “I thought the taxi driver's behavior - if it is as reported - was a disgrace. Somebody's orientation has absolutely nothing to do with whether they can ride a taxi. That kind of attitude doesn't fit with what this city's become," Bloomberg said in a statement. The Solution for Sweaty Balls

A guy problem that guys allegedly don't like talking about is sweaty balls. But the guy in the lab coat in the video on the Fresh Balls website doesn't have that problem, either talking about sweaty balls or having them – even while guys off camera laugh at him. What seemed at first to us like a Funny or Die video reminiscent of Alec Baldwin's Schwedy balls sketch on SNL is actually a pitch for a genuine product. But we're embarrassed to talk about it. I've had my eye on Freddie Stroma for a while now. He's simply divine, isn't he? Like a Caravaggio angel. Sigh. Those lips! That hair! He WILL be mine! Anyway, here's the disconcertingly handsome Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince star at last night's BAFTA/LA Britannia Awards at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Century City. And you have to admit: he looks pretty good in a tux. But I think I prefer him tux-less, you know, as he is here and here. What do you think? All dressed up, or not dressed at all? (via Just Jared)

Don't turn out the lights, Petey! Grampa's ghost is trying to teabag you! These award-winning ads by CERCA, a Brazilian-based agency, are for a children and adolescents referral center. The text in the first panel reads: "Turn off the lights and help Peter overcome his fear of the dark." The second panel says: "Pedophilia. Guy Fawkes: We Didn't Start the Fire

Long story short. Guy Fawkes was a member of a group of Roman Catholic restorationists in 1605 London who planned to blow up the Houses of Parliament while King James I and all of the Protestant aristocracy and nobility were inside. Fawkes was the designated detonator, but was apprehended lurking in the Parliament cellars just hours before he was to light the fuse. Since then, every November 5 Brits celebrate the occasion with fireworks and by burning effigies of Fawkes in bonfires all over what remains of the United Kingdom. Curious side note: The word "guy," meaning a man or a person, is derived from this Guy.

Anyway, all that's a preamble to this: Last year on November 5 in England, a guy strapped a videocam to his head and shot this gorgeous unedited footage of Guy Fawkes Night from the point of view of the Guy in the bonfire, to the uplifting orchestral strains of Rogers & Hammerstein's "You'll Never Walk Alone" from the tragimusical Carousel. In an email to contacts (via Fashionista), Taylor Jacobson writes: “After four amazing years at Rachel Zoe Corporation, I’m saddened and exhilarated at the same time to announce my departure. After much thought and consideration, I have decided to take the challenging leap to go off and style on my own.” Which is all well and good – I'm sure we all wish her the best blah blah blah – but does Brad really have what it takes to be 2nd in command? I think of him as more of a well-dressed lap-dog than an office manager. If I was Rachel, I would, like, DIE right now. LIT-trally DIE.

Conservative Christian clergy are still going absolutely bat-shit crazy over the passing of the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Act. The Christian Anti-Defamation Commission led by Gary Cass plan to stage a publicity stunt at the US Capitol involving incendiary hate speech directed at gay and lesbian Americans in an attempt to get arrested and thereby “prove” that their God-given rights to harass LGBT citizens are threatened.

The great Boo Boo casting coup

In casting news that is rocking all of Hollywood this morning, Variety announced that Justin Timberlake is in talks for the role that could very well define his Hollywood career: Boo Boo Bear! He would play opposite the great Dan Ackroyd as Yogi in the live-action/CG animated movie about the iconic picnic basket-stealing bear of Jellystone. Also, causing an uproar among Hannah-Barbera purists, is the addition of a NEW CHARACTER – a documentary filmmaker, to be played by Anna Faris. Stay tuned as the story develops. But just think: This COULD DO for Justin what Scooby Doo did for Mathew Lillard! ZOMG!

Our first clues about James Franco's character on General Hospital

Yesterday, in the final scene of GH, we saw a mysterious room and a mysterious hand – obviously meant to be Mr. Franco's. Now, we know from the press release that Franco's character has something to do with the Jason/Sam storyline. (Jason, of course, is the emotionless, brain-damaged mob enforcer/hitman-with-a-heart-of-gold who just yesterday helped cover up Claudia's murder, and who's dating Samantha, the ship captain-turned-private investigator.) Anyway, to the haunting strains of Adam Lambert's "Mad World" (?!), we got a shaky POV-cam look at the desk and then walls of a room which were COVERED with pictures and newspaper clipping of Jason, as well as a bunch of crazy looking charts and graphs and chalkboards. The final shot had the mysterious hand throwing down a VERY RECENT picture of Jason burying Claudia's body in the woods. Which was odd because it was LATE, LATE AT NIGHT and DEEP, DEEP IN THE WOODS, where nobody should have been. SPOOKY. This means one of four things:

1) He's an FBI investigator targeting Jason.

2) He's a crazy (gay) stalker (PLEASEPLEASEPLEASE!).

3) He's a long-lost (twin?) brother.

4) He's a Zachara family hit man, who is targeting Jason to avenge the death of the rival mob princess, Claudia.

I'm thinking it's probably the last, but I'm holding out hope that he's a gay stalker. His first appearance isn't until the 20th, so I'm sure there will be plenty more scenes of the mysterious hand and the mysterious room. If you start watching now, you won't miss a thing by the time he appears.

Electoral Ups & Downs

While the setback for marriage equality in Maine was disappointing (as is the very prospect of putting our civil-rights up for a vote) there are, nevertheless, still some very good things to report about the elections last Tuesday. The Associated Press and other news outlets are finally calling the race in Washington State over and Ref. 71 has been approved! The referendum will grant gay and lesbian couples certain state-provided benefits that married heterosexual couples enjoy.

In Kalamazoo, Michigan, voters approved an ordinance that extends anti-discrimination protections based on sexual orientation or gender identity in housing, employment and public accommodations to gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender individuals.

And although less encouraging, a very illuminating series of events during the election highlighted just how much the Democratic National Committee takes the gays (and our money) for granted. We get a peek behind the curtains of power. And it’s not a pretty sight.
