Auction house buying and selling is one of the best ways to make gold in WoW and can be done very quickly if you utilize the /auc getall command to scan the auction house in a couple minutes. I use this method with WoW Schools guide to make tons of gold flipping items.

However for those with deeper pockets there is a more lucrative side to buy low sell normal that isn’t done on the auction house but is actually accomplished via the trade channel, a channel I usually avoid since it takes up valuable time to barter when you could just through the items on the AH and move on with your gold making.

This method entails buying up high priced items with lowball offers via the trade channel but you must know a few vital things before partaking in this risky but potentially extremely profitable activity.

How to Find a Flip

Many high ticket items are announced for sale by players in the trade channel because they are so excited to have won a roll on a high priced BoE that they know can fetch upwards of 10k and are eager to get rid of it so they can buy up the other items they always wanted.

Most of the time you can count on people broadcasting items in trade chat to be a bit on the desperate and impatient end, many of these items take a little bit of time to sell since the niche of players that have 10k on hand to buy them are few.

You can usually lowball these offers but the trick in negotiating is to know what your profit margins are and most importantly is to know inside and out the average price and demand for that particular item.

Know When To Flip and How Much

The most important element of a successful high priced item flip is to be very sure of the items current value and if the price trend is stable (headed up, down or steady).

There are a few ways to accomplish this:

1. Obviously step #1 is to first check the auction house for the item and see if there are any lower auctions than the average.
2. Download the addon Market Watcher and run scans daily on a few high priced items, this will show a graph of the average and lowest priced item currently on the auction house in a graph. If the line is stable for a few weeks you can be sure the item won’t drop dramatically, if the graph has extreme high’s and lows be sure to grab it at the lowest point possible.
   Stable – Battered hilts sell for 10k or more almost always.
   
   Unstable – Artic fur can go from 25g to 75g overnight.
   
3. By following these graphs you will start to develop a feel for the item and know what constitutes a high price, an average price and a good buying price. You are now ready to act on any flipping opportunities announced in trade chat.

Figuring out a Price

Armed with this knowledge you are now ready to act on a flip, here’s a quick case study of a typical flip:

Battered Hilt

Price: Sells consistently for 10k – 11k gold on my server, never seen it below this price on the auction house.

Auction House Cut: 5%  or 500g

Acceptable Profit: 2,000g

Spot someone in trade channel announcing a high priced item you’re looking for.

Sometimes people will be tough, just know you’re desired profit margin and don’t go below that, reply with a polite “no ty”  they will either accept your offer or hold onto the item.

And other times you’ll get a desperate seller accept the offer right off the cuff

In the latter case, I knew I already had 1 battered hilt now for 8k and decided if I was to pick up another I’d go lower to 7.5k,  looks like it worked.

Potential Profit gained in 15 minutes of buying/selling flipped items: 4,500g

Suggested High Priced Items to Flip

Here are some suggestions I have based on current market conditions, make sure you keep in mind to not invest more than 30% (or a large portion) of your total gold amount into flips.

Battered Hilt

Primordial Saronite (Item is on a downward trend on most servers, buy at a very discounted price)

ICC BoE’s (These always fall in price a week before new content patch, so stop flipping or expect dramatic drop in prices beforehand)

Rare Gems (not usually found at a discount but a very stable and easy to flip item. Keep in mind that when Honor token change comes in effect that there will be a flood of players turning in tokens for gems thus lowering the price)

Darkmoon Card: Greatness and Nobles Deck (People desperate to sell Nobles Decks when the Darkmoon Faire isn’t on, hang on to these until you can convert them to cards)

Rare Companion Pets – ex: Razzashi Hatchling

Bulk Sales of Eternal Fire/Eternal Life – You’ll sometimes see players shouting in trade WTS 20 STACKS of eternal fire fast PST, great buying opportunity to lowball and offer 50% of value. (keep in mind frozen orb trade in change incoming 3.3.3)

That is it for now, good luck with your flips and be sure to take into consideration speculation on item demand and not to buy up items just before a major content patch, unless you know that item will go up in value. I wanted to share with you guys an addon I’ve been playing around with a bit that exports your World of Warcraft beancounter sales data to excel. This is a little more advanced than the average player may want for their efforts, since beancounter already has a tab in game where you can type in items, sort etc.. I like to mess around with my data in excel because there are many more things you can do with it in the long run.

Exporting Data to Excel

Go download the addon Bag Export via wowinterface. Enable it at your character screen and then in game type /bage success This will parse all your successful auctions on that character and show a text field come up with it all highlighted sperated by commas, just ctrl + copy this data. This is your beancounter sales forever from that character.

Now you can paste this into excel, and repeat this step for each alt you have, the process takes only a minute to do per character.

Formatting Beancounter Data in Excel

When you look at this data it is a little messy, the first field is the item # which you don’t really need since the item name is right beside it. However the prices are all in copper amounts and the date is in Unix format which doesn’t help us at all

Convert Copper to Gold

To display the copper as a gold amount just right click on the first cell and format cell.  In the custom option under category type in 0″.”0000;-0″.”00;0″.”00 This will now show all numbers in gold amount.  180000  would =  18.0000

Convert Unix Time to Normal Date

That last field stores the data in unix time, example: 1266456030 really means February 18, 2010 who woulda thought?? That unix time is based on the time after the date 1/1/1970 so insert this formula in the cells to the right. =CELL/(60*60*24)+”1/1/1970″ Cell being a reference to where the Unix time numbers are (J2 or whatever) Copy and paste this all the way down so it converts all the numbers into date, left side being the Unix time and right side being the formula time. Make sure after this is done that you go into format cells > date   to now show it in whichever date formation you want (02/18/2010  or February 18, 2010)

This was only done on my flipping character (and data for March 11 isn’t complete since it just took the data from this morning) but you can see all the flips I’ve done in the last 2 days, I’ve been doing a lot of Jewelcrafting flipping to experiment with snatch and what could be bought and sold. Someone listed 3 of the Parrot cages for 3g and I already sold 2 for 140g average.

and there you have it, you’ll now have all your sales for every character in an excel sheet that you can manipulate and look at for patterns or do other fun stuff with. One thing I was thinking that would be useful, since you can do  /bage complete  which will give you all the items you’ve bought with that character. You can have 1 sheet being all your sales data and another sheet with all the buying data and you can do some calculations to find out your profit margins on flips, which items sell for the most, graphs of your best selling days, graph of days you find your materials at the cheapest.

The DK 10k project is coming along nicely, I hit 450 jewelcrafting a couple days ago in patch 3.3.2. I have found that I could do the Jewelcrafting daily at level 65 and have been able to pick up 4 tokens so far so it’s time to choose my first jewelcrafting recipe!

It is tough to make this decision, if you pick up the most popular gems you have to deal with a ton of competition that is doing the same but if you pick a lower demand gem you may not get that many sales.

Here’s how I went about choosing a JC gem recipe to make the most gold.

Search the WoW Popular Gem List

Your first area of research should be the site www.wowpopular.com, if you go to the gem section you can select gems by epic/rare/meta and  it is automatically sorted from most to least popular.

As I was going through this list and making my popularity ranking for each gem I noticed that a lot of rare gems were beating out epic gems. While I can see why a lot of people still use rare gems (to gem up alts, to gem while leveling or they just hit 80 and are low on funds) the numbers still seemed a bit too high on the amount of rare gems that beat out epic gems.

I’ve come to the conclusion that since wowpopular bases the most popular gems on their scan of every character on the armory, a lot of these characters may not be inactive due to people either quitting the game or putting that level 80 aside and leveling anew. This means that when everyone used only rare gems combined with the people who currently use them now it is adding up to skew the data with the old inactive toons.

Nevertheless rare gems are still popular are Wingman pointed out in his post best selling rare gems.

Do Some Market Research on your Servers Auction House

I cannot tell you which gems are the most profitable to make on your server, there are different mixes on every server to do with competition and gem prices. The popularity of gems however are uniform across all servers since there is a “right” way to gem your characters that most people read up on and socket.

What you can do though is follow the same method I have in choosing my first recipe to profit from and insert your servers data. In the future we will be releasing a way to automatically dump all of your auction house data into a spreadsheet but that is currently still in the works.

As you can see Rare gems and epic gems can both be profitable. I highlighted bold and underline the highest profit gems in each category.

I want to go for the highest profit gems and you can notice that a lot of the epic gems in the lower ranks (they are blank because they are below 40 ranking) have very high profit margins but I’m worried how well these would sell.

Recipes that stand out on this list are Rigid Autumn’s Glow, Smooth Autumn’s Glow, Bold Cardinal Ruby, Reckless Ametrine, Purified Dreadstone and Bright Cardinal Ruby.

And the Winning JC Recipe is…

I decided to pick up Rigid Autumn’s Glow. My DK is very low on funds from just finishing powerleveling jewelcrafting (fully funded on his own starting from scratch within 40 hours time) and I wanted to pick up a gem that would be low cost to make but gives me a decent return while having a high popularity.

It only costs 11g to pick up an Autumn’s Glow and I can craft it into a 50g gem, not too shabby.

Which Jewelcrafting Recipe is the Most Profitable an article by: WoWConfidential Gold Making in WoW

One method of making gold with jewelcrafting is to craft an icy prism everyday.

The problem though is that the drop rates are so complicated to calculate that you’d need a math degree to pin-point on average the chances of getting a green gem, rare gem and an epic gem.

If you have auctioneer installed, here’s a very simple and fast way to find out if it’s worth your time to make an Icy Prism.

Icy Prism Profit Macro

I stumbled on this post at a gnomes quest that talks about icy prisms. From that site I found the most valuable information was a command script you could input right after you do an /auc getall scan that will return the values of the cost to make an icy prism and the total average value of the gems depending on current prices.

Here’s the icy prism macro: (warning: this macro may need to change after 3.3.3 due to changes in mats required to make an icy prism)

The first time I ran this macro it told me it cost 85g to make and only a 75g return. Then yesterday I checked and it said 65g for mats and 87g return.

Since I was only skill level 441 at the time of using the icy prism the first time I would of made it if there was a negative profit up to -30g since that’s how much it cost me to get a skill point anyways.

A lot of people are not doing their icy prism cooldown because the frozen orb rise in price in patch 3.3.3 from 5g to around 25 gold on mosts server (due to being able to trade frozen orbs 1:1 for lots of valuable trade items) However this macro will valuate your frozen orbs at whatever your servers frozen orb costs are (20-25g) so that you are still making that higher amount back in profit.

Try this out on your auction house and let me know how accurate your results are over the long run, I’ll be updating this macro for patch 3.3.3 when the mat costs to make an icy prism change.

Calculate Icy Prism Profit Instantly an article by: WoWConfidential Gold Making in WoW

To keep you updated with the project, I just hit 450 Jewelcrafting tonight and now the real gold making can begin!

I will have a much more thorough post about this later in the week in my DK 10K project update but here are some quick notes:

- It took me 40 hours to level from 55-65 and power level jewelcrafting to 450. All of this was done with a fresh DK on a new server without any help. Included in that 40 hours was spent to gather ores/herbs to fund the Jewelcraft powerleveling.

(Screenshot shows 2 days 1 hour but I spent 4 hours making a track herbs and mining macro video using the DK and I also spent another 2 hours experimenting the best place to mine mithril ore, I mailed all items gained from this to my main so it wouldn’t effect the project. The other 3 hours was just wasted time by accident like leaving my character logged in while I watched a video or talked on a forum.)

- I set up an auctioneer snatch list of the items needed to powerlevel jewelcrafting early on and set the snatch at 80%, often times I’d find great deals on materials at around 50% of the actual cost so my powerlevel cost was really reduced.

- Since I am still keeping up on my goal to hit the gold cap on my main doing inscription and have other goals in the game I saved most of my leveling for when I had full rested experience, this really sped up the rate at which I leveled.

- I saved all of the equipment I crafted with jewelcrafting to disenchant when I start leveling enchanting. This will provide me with tons of free mats (Since I would of just vendored the items anyways) to give me a very cheap way to powerlevel enchanting.

As I begin to figure out what the best ways to profit from jewelcrafting are I’ve already discovered that prospecting old world ores can be extremely lucrative. Yesterday I did a quick mining run for thorium ore (to get a little more gold to finish off JCing and get 300 skill so that I could mine the odd fel iron node while leveling) I saw that instead of selling the Thorium ore outright on the AH auctioneer enchantrix was telling me I could get double the amount by prospecting.

I prospected the 2 stacks I mined and bought up another 2 stacks totaling (85 thorium ore. I made 333g from prospecting. If I would of sold the ore outright I would of made only 115g so the profit was 218g for 5 minutes of work!

Future of the Project to hit 10K

I am going to go for level 68 (already halfway to 66) so that I can do the Jewelcrafting dailies to get the JC tokens for new recipes. It costs about 40g per titanium powder on my server and you need 10 of them to get 1 token, so the time invested into doing the JC daily will mean I will compensate 400g for 15 minutes of time.

While I am leveling I will continue to mine whatever ore I see but my days of going out to gather only are over. If I get only 400g/hour from mining that means I get only 1 token an hour and since some recipes take 4 tokens that’d be 4 hours of hard grinding to just get 1 recipe.

I am going to utilize prospecting to make gold while I level to 68 and I should learn my first few cuts tomorrow, I’m currently at 100g so once I can save up 400g I’ll have 2 tokens and my first recipe to start profiting from.

I will use the ore I get while leveling to 68 to build up a fund to buy gems needed to cut for profit and it should build from there, more profit = more cuts I can buy = greater daily income progress.

Thanks for following the journey, I know this could have been done much faster if I just gave my alt 10,000g from my main, since leveling takes 2 hours a level = 20 hours to get to 65, and it took me 3 hours to level from 1-450 in JC with all the mats (total of 23 hours instead of 40 hours). But I wanted this to be a way to show that anyone can start off on a new server bare with just a DK and get a Jewelcrafting business set up right away.

Hit 450 Jewelcrafting Skill – DK 10K Project an article by: WoWConfidential Gold Making in WoW

It’s been a while since I’ve written on this site, but when you see the magnititude of this post I hope all will be forgiven. The following is essentially the result of a math geek with too much time on his hands. Read on for how this could benefit you now and in the future.

A friend and fellow gold-making enthusiast, Frontendloader, created an addon which scanned my realm’s entire AH and dumped it’s output information to a text file. The information file contains every item on the Auction House, it’s bid price, buyout price and quantity of items. I’ve then used Microsoft Excel to lookup this data, for the purpose of manipulating it and calculating things with it.

1) Obtaining a total figure on a profession power leveling mats shopping list.

Find Out Best Gold Making Profession

2) Calculating profit and loss for each profession. A lot of the individual profession spreadsheets out there do this already but with user input data instead getting mat prices fresh from the AH and comparing them with end product prices fresh from the AH.

Which Server Has The Best Economy

3) Comparing economies with friends or if considering server transferring.

4) I want to see more ideas in the comments section of what could be done with an AH snapshot. If you can envision it, I can make it!

I have so far done #1 from the list above and included some screenshots below. In doing so I learnt that people can corrupt data fairly effortlessly. For example, one goose on my realm listed linen cloth for 1000g per unit which blew out the power leveling budget for tailoring. I have since excluded such nonsense data.

The costs of power leveling jewelcrafting, inscription, alchemy, leatherworking, tailoring, engineering and blacksmithing are based on the material costs at www.wow-professions.com. I have excluded from them vendor items such as tailor threads and alchemy vials since the value of these is widely known. For cost to Power level Inscription, since there are multiple herbs that result in each ink you require, I picked a typical one for each ink group.

As you can see, this is a good way to find out how much it would cost to power level a profession. It is not without flaw however, some items can be obtained much cheaper off the auction house. A good example of this is the rods required for power leveling Enchanting; buying them from the AH is expensive (and in turn Blacksmiths make good profit on them) and much could be saved by having them made by an alt or friend. When looking at the figures, you also need to consider that you can sell or disenchant many of the items made to offset the total cost.

Finding out Profit of Each Profession

I’ve already began work on spreadsheets to examine profit and loss calculations on crafting items and gear with Tailoring, Leatherworking and Blacksmithing using the data obtained from the AH Scan Snapshot. Check back shortly and I’ll show you the results of those spreadsheets. I also plan to make ones that lookup prices for ore, herbs, gems and glyphs, to assess the viability of Jewelcrafting or Inscription on your realm.

In the future, we are looking to produce an End-User version of the addon and spreadsheet so that you can all simply press the AH button ingame to get a spreadsheet full of useful information. Right now it’d require a couple steps like pressing the getall button at the auction house, using an .exe to convert that output file into a spreadsheet format then inserting that spreadsheet into the master spreadsheet we’d provide.

I thought it’d be interesting to share my daily routine and how I go about my gold making activities in WoW.

I’m always looking for ways to increase the efficiency of my time so that I am making the highest gold an hour. I prioritize my time usually so that the highest gold/hr items are at the beginning and the least are near the end (incase I don’t have time for them and they get missed)

It’s good to record how much time you spend doing certain activities. You can see where your time sinks are and compare how much time you spend on those activities to how much gold you get in return. This will give you your gold/hour rate, be that from auction house flipping, crafting with professions, farming gold or putting on a light show for tips.

Gold Making Routine

Here’s what I did last evening after getting home from work (6pm – 12:ooam)

6pm – 6:10pm - Log on my 3 posting alts, collect mail, open AH (lets altoholic update my inventory amounts so I know what I am low on inventory on)

6:12pm – 6:18pm - Log on main crafter and buy up low priced herbs with Auctionator (Nothing to buy, Wednesdays are usually high priced days because so much sales happened on Tuesday that people are making more glyphs to restock their inventory.)

6:18pm – 6:21pm - Scan with Market Watcher to see any big changes in the items I regularly buy/sell

- Artic Furs surged to 75g each, Sold my last 5 yesterday for 65g each.
Looks like prices of almost every item have gone up (due to spike in playing on Tuesday night) so I can sell off a lot of items I’ve been stocking up on to resell.

6:21pm – 6:24pm - Run Getall auctioneer scan, make a coffee

6:24 – 6:40 - Do a “resale” scan to buy up any low priced items

- Made about 200g buying up 20 iridecent pearls, mote of mana, mote of earth. Today there wasn’t much stuff underpriced as Wednesdays prices are usually high.

6:40pm – 6:45pm - Removed Shadow Crystal, Dark Jade and Chalcedony from my snatch list as the new changes in the PTR will have the icy prism only require 1/3 of these items than before. I’ll add them again after patch 3.3.3 hits and I see what the new market price is.

- Bought up some primal earth, light leather, essence of earth at 50% value

6:45pm – 6:50pm – List items on AH with appraiser. When you do a refresh of items in your inventory appraiser shows you a quick snapshot under the item name in a color code of what the market price is. (example  1/3/10/393) Red means there’s 1 item priced more than 150% of the items worth, yellow means the item is within 75%-150% of its value, Green means it’s going for under 75% and Blue indicates the item is going lower than 50% (rough estimates).

When I do this quick refresh with appraiser I scroll the list and post anything that I see has only yellow or red auctions up or none.

6:54pm – 6:56pm - Scan with Glypher to find out what glyphs to make. This scans only glyphs on the AH and it will give me a current snapshot of all glyph prices. Lil’Sparkies Workshop uses these updated numbers with KTQ (Kevtool Queue) so that you can do /ktq queue 5 glyphs (and it’ll only make glyphs above your set threshold… mine is 5g 85s)

6:57pm – 7:30pm - done crafting 150 glyphs and 150 runescrolls of fortitude. My vellums were already at an acceptable inventory level.

7:37pm – 8:29pm – cancel/repost all glyphs across my 3 posting alts and post glyphs/vellums/runescroll that I just finished making.

- Made dinner, made some phone calls, posted on forums I frequent etc. while this was going on in the background.

8:30pm – 9:40pm - Crafted 96 darkmoon cards

I wanted to leave this till a later time because I’m eager to get my DK to level 65 and get JC/Ench powerleveled but the Darkmoon Faire will be over soon and it will be tough to sell any off-cards I don’t need and to buy up ones to complete decks.

- Went on the AH, bought cards I needed to complete decks
- Listed cards that I had excess of and was within 15% of the median price or greater

Death Knight 10k Project

9:40pm – 10:20pm - Set up Jewelcrafting snatch and bought out more stuff to prepare to powerlevel Jewelcrafting once my DK hits 65.

10:20pm – 11:50pm - Level DK, Went from 3% into 64 to dinging level 65! (had a full level of rested) I can now start powerleveling Jewelcrafting and Enchanting for the DK 10K project and also to incorporate into my daily gold making activities to hit the gold cap.

11:50pm – 12:50am – Start writing this post, while doing another cancel/reposting cycle across my 3 alts. I always cancel/repost when I know that I will be doing something outside of WoW since it takes very little effort and the AH Campers have been a little more ruthless lately. I always want my glyphs to be the cheapest to get the most sales.

That is a typical day, it is busier than normal since I spent an extra hour and 10 minutes making darkmoon cards which I only do once a month plus I spent another 45 minutes setting up my snatch to buy up all underpriced materials used in powerleveling Jewelcrafting from 1-450. This will combine with my current snatch list so I’ll always have control over the Jewelcrafting powerleveling market to buy items at low prices and flip them to other leveling JC’ers for a profit.

I am constantly tweeking my daily routine, before it used to be about 4 hours worth of inscription/auction house stuff but now that I’m trying to leveling Jewelcrafting/Enchanting on the side I’ve reduced the amount of time I put into inscription to 1 hour (in which time I can craft about 250 glyphs) and only focus on crafting the highest priced glyphs. This has meant my income from Inscription has gone down to 2k/day from 3,500g/day but my gold an hour has gone way higher.

Once I have JC/Ench leveled to max I’ll see how much gold/hr I make from those activities and either do them before or after my daily inscription activities depending on the profitability.

Another thing I am keeping in mind; I try to tailor all of my information on this site to be as practical as possible and something you can do to make gold in WoW. Not many players want to spend their whole playing session or 4 hours on gold making a day.

That is why very shortly after I reach the gold cap I will be getting back into PvP/Raiding while refining my gold making strategy to only take up 30 min – 1 hour of my daily playing time while still earning a large amount of gold weekly.

But I’m sure that will only be a temporary project I do for a while… since my obsession to make even more gold will drive me to try for a million

My Daily Gold Making Routine in WoW 3.3.2 an article by: WoWConfidential Gold Making in WoW

With the server transfer far behind me now I’ve become very comfortable on my server and had a very successful week making gold.

The story of this past week has definitely been investing into items for the release of patch 3.3.3.

Progress To Hit The Cap

My last update was on February 22nd 2010 which was 8 days ago. Here were the numbers then:

Liquid Gold Total Feb 22nd: 89, 373g

Total Including Inventory: 148,446g

It is now March 2nd 2010 and here are my totals:

Liquid Gold: 96,598g

Total Including Inventory: 192,256g

I didn’t have a guild bank set up in my last gold update so that is why you never saw those numbers included. The Grand Total does not include the value of items that are located in the guild bank.

Going from 148.5k to 192k = 43.8k gold gained in 8 days which equals 5,476g/day.

Gold Making Activities to make 43.8k in 8 days

Inscription – Glyphs

My inscription business usually caps out at around 2,000-3,000g a day since I only spend an hour milling, crafting and posting glyphs in which time you can only make around 200 glyphs.

The market I’m involved in right now has glyphs no higher than 11g each and I refuse to make any glyphs below 5g 80s for 1 ink glyphs, and 7g 85s for 2 ink glyphs. Darkmoon Card Greatness has dropped from 5,500g to around 3,500g which means the “value” of my snowfall inks are now 8g meaning that it no longer fully covers the cost of making my glyphs.

Given this new raised threshold on what I’d make glyphs at (and having my minimum profit per glyph set at 3g 85s) I only make around 200 glyphs a day now which equals roughly 1,400g/day made in glyph sales, or 11,200g profit gained.

Inscription – Vellums and Runescrolls

Runescrolls have been moving very well on my server. It costs 2g 10s to make each runescroll and I’ve sold 205 of them at an average price of 7g each = 1,000g profit from Runescrolls of Fortitude.

Weapon Vellum III – sold 165 at 7g 80s each avg (cost 2g each to make) = 957g profit

Weapon Vellum I – sold 15 at 8g 50s each (cost 1g 50s each to make) = 105g profit

Armor Vellum III – sold 135 at 4g 50s each (cost 1g each to make) = 472g profit

Armor Vellum II – sold 45 at 3g 50s each (cost 50s each to make) = 135g profit

Faces of Doom – sold 1 at 258g (cost 79g to make) = 179g profit

Iron-Bound Tome – sold 2 at 155g (cost 79g to make) = 152g profit

Darkmoon Cards

Recouped a total of 11,850g from darkmoon cards. The total worth was included in my Feb 22 amount so this shouldn’t have been a gain in my numbers but it did contribute into more “liquid” gold.

The Darkmoon faire is back in town this week and I’m going to be making about 173 cards to make into completed decks. I have about 850 snowfall inks to get rid of and I’ve already bought the eternal lifes needed for an average of 25g each. I am getting more cautious with darkmoon cards as the price of greatness cards have dropped from 5.5k each to 4k. (I always use my risk vs reward calculations for darkmoon cards to figure out if it’s profitable to do)

Buying and Selling for Patch 3.3.3

A lot of my gold increase has come from buying up materials at low prices to be flipped later on for regular price, this is the main lesson taught in WoW School’s guide. Buy low, sell normal.

Eternal Fire

I bought up 368 eternal fires in the last 8 days at an average of 15g each. The price has plummeted recently from news that you’ll be able to turn in Frozen Orbs for Eternal fires and other items. I think people are panicing and getting rid of them but I believe Eternal Fires will go back up in price once the initial dump of frozen orbs happens on patch day.

This is a main reason my “worth” amount has gone up so high as auctioneer believes the true value of Eternal fires should be 27g each and I have 368 in my inventory which should equal 9,936g however I only paid 5,520g for them so that is a net increase of 4,416g in big pictures calculation.

Frozen Orbs

I was able to buy up 188 Frozen Orbs right when the PTR patch notes were released at an average of 10g each. That equals 1,880g and now the price has gone up to 17g each (according to Auctioneer) which is a net increase of 1,316g. However I think the value I’m going to get out of these once 3.3.3 hits will more likely be about 28g each which will be a profit of 3,384g.

Titanium Bars

Getting ready for the cooldown to be removed from titansteel bars will mean a spike in demand for titanium bars. I’ve bought up 191 at 13g each and auctioneer values these at 20g per which is a net increase of 1,337g.

So that accounts for about 11,200g profit from glyphs and 20,919g gained from the other activities in the last 8 days. I was also doing a lot of mining/herbing (for my DK 10K experiement, about 6 hours worth of gathering) which equals around 3,000g net increase.

The rest of the unaccounted for increase (around 8,700g) was from more buying/selling I was doing on the auction house, I have really put auctioneers Snatch feature into use and I’ll be doing a tutorial and video on how I make tons of gold a day buying up high demand items at 50% of the price or lower using WoW Schools guide.

We’ll see how well the investments do once patch 3.3.3 hits. Stay tuned for more gold updates and daily gold making articles.

Hitting Gold Cap Update – 200,000 Gold – Mar 2 2010 an article by: WoWConfidential Gold Making in WoW

A great way to make gold in the game is to go back and farm old world herbs and ore.

One item I see consistently going for a high amount is Mithril Ore so I set out to find the best zone to mine this ore the fastest.

Two zones that are considered the best to mine Mithril Ore are the Badlands and the Hinterlands so I set up a mining route and timed each one to see which gave the mithril ore in the least amount of time.

Mining Mithril Ore in The Hinterlands

First destination I set out on was the Hinterlands, if you search on WoWhead.com you’ll see that the Hinterlands has 143 possible Mithril Ore nodes (the most out of any zone).

This may seem like a lot but many of the nodes are in hard to reach areas that are annoying to get to, here’s the route I’ll be taking:

The circled red area is a hot spot, you’ll almost always find at least 2-3 mithril nodes up there. Elite mobs and dragons roam around but the dragonkin have a very small aggro range so it isn’t that much of a problem.

Two annoying parts of this route exist, one is at the far south in Jintha’alor where you need to climb multiple steps and zig zag through paths to work your way to 3 nodes, while it may seem a waste of time you’ll usually find a node or two up there always. The 2nd annoying part is the very steep mountain at the south east side, make sure you don’t fall off or you’ll die for sure, you’ll need to run all the way north and then work your way back south to get back up the ramp to continue the route.

Results of Mining in The Hinterlands

I spent 42 minutes and 43 seconds doing 2 complete circuits of this route and here’s what I ended up with:

Given the values of all those items on my server I made 257g 83s in 42 minutes which equals 360 gold an hour. We get 104 Mithril Ore an hour doing this mining route.

Mining Mithril Ore in The Badlands

Next up is the Badlands. I like this zone as it is pretty flat and most areas are very easy to get to, not that many caves or steep mountains.

Here is the route I used to mine mithril ore in the badlands:

Again, the red circles are the hot spots where I would always find mithril ore every time I travelled by. Especially the far west region I’d normally get 2-3 mithril ore nodes every time.

The great thing about the badlands is this route takes half the time as the Hinterlands route does.

Results of Mining in the Badlands

I was able to complete 3 circuits of this route within 35 minutes 32 seconds and here’s what I ended up with:

Calculating the totals of all item worth in gold = 348g in 35 min which equals just about 600g an hour, not bad for something a level 40 can do. We get 144 Mithril Ore an hour mining in badlands.

So the evidence points to The Badlands giving the most Mithril Ore an hour as well as the most gold an hour. This is a small sample size and I’ll do some further research when I come back here and add to the averages but I felt that badlands was much faster as you didn’t have to deal with awkward areas of the map like in the hinterlands.

Tanaris is one more zone that has a lot of Mithril Ore in it but I recall mining in that zone very recently and it felt very bare, however I’ll run that zone shortly and add my results here.

I’ll be doing this research for all Ores and Herbs that are in demands and can fetch a lot of gold on the auction house, it would also be wise to build up an inventory of these old world materials before Cataclysm hits.

Best Mithril Ore Mining Spot an article by: WoWConfidential Gold Making in WoW

I want to share with you an auction house addon that I’ve really taken a liking to recently.

It’s called Market Watcher, an addon that allows you to track price data on individual items and after you get two scans in it starts to plot a price history graph for you.

Auctioneer may seem superior to this addon, and I agree as Auctioneer tracks ALL item data across every item you’ve ever seen on the auction house. The strength though of market watcher is the fact that you can see a visual display of how an item goes up and down in price during the week which can let you predict when to buy at the lowest price and when to sell for the most profit. I use this addon with WoW Schools techniques to make my most gold an hour.

How To Use Market Watcher

1. Download Market Watcher
2. Enable the addon then click on the history tab at the bottom of your AH interface and click the Add button at the top left.
   
3. Type in the item name, spell it properly and the icon for the item will show up, click add. Alternatively you can copy the item number from wowhead.com, the item number can be found if you type in an item, and the url will look like http://www.wowhead.com/?item=36906 36906 is the item ID of Icethorn.
   
4. Make sure you click on “Record Scans”  now click Add. Repeat steps 2-4 for every item you want to add and have recorded history for.
5. You can now gather your first data points, click on the “Scan” tab at the bottom of the AH interface and click Scan. This will quickly go through every item you’ve added and collect data.
6. Wait at least 5 hours or the next day and scan again, a graph should now be starting to form and after a week or so you’ll have a graph that looks something like this:
   

Making Gold With Market Watcher

This tool will now help you become much more informed of how items demand/supply change during the week.

You can use this knowledge in many ways, here’s a few case studies.

Icescale Leg Armor

As you can see the price of icescale leg armor dropped continuously from Thursday to Monday. Suddenly on Tuesday the price show back up to the peak we saw the last Wednesday.

When you put your analytical thinking to work you will realize that server maintenance is on Tuesdays and all the raids reset, this is the best selling day as everyone is logging back on and starting to raid again, thus buffing up their equipment in preparation.

What you would do to make gold is buy up the Icescale Leg Armor between 100g-125g and resell them on the Tuesday – Friday. Sometimes the item may just shoot down in price because tons of supply was suddenly dumped on the AH and you know that the “normal” price is around 175g each.

Titanium Bar

Another way I use Market Watcher is by keeping a close eye on certain markets that I constantly buy/resell in. I have my auctioneer snatch set to buy up Titanium Bars at 60% or below of market price (I buy them around 14g each).

After I do Market Watcher scans I quickly scroll through each item to see if there are any major dips or spikes, during a dip, if it is well below the average, I’ll buy up the item. In this case I know that I have a bunch of Titanium Bars sitting in my bank that I bought for 14g each and the price is currently at a high for the week of 28g so I listed a good amount of my stock (but not flooding the AH) so I could pull in some profit while the price was high.

Add market watcher into your auction house mix and give it a go. If anything it’ll give you a better handle on items you usually buy and sell and might teach you more about your markets.

Use it to make more gold while buying and selling and combine it with WoW Schools techniques to make the most gold.
