Say you're in the mood for some "McNugget Love'" like this guy:

It would only make sense to get the party started with a nice libation of some sort, right? Have you ever thought to yourself, "Self, how can I incorporate a breaded piece of what we presume to be chicken into an alcoholic beverage?" Enter the McNuggitini.

No, I'm NOT making this up...

These two women (Alie and Georgia, respectively) actually went to the trouble of brain storming and subsequently creating an martini that incorporates vodka, the chocolate McShake, McDonald's barbecue sauce and last but not least, a McDonald's Chicken McNugget as a garnish...

They did a whole documentary blog entry about it, complete with pictures of their reactions as they finally tasted their concoction for the first (and probably last) time...

I know you're just DYING for the recipe, and I shall not disappoint (via Liquor Snob):

McNuggitini
Recipe by Alie and Georgia

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 0 minutes
Yield: 2 servings

Ingredients:
2 McNuggz (plus more for snacking)
1 tub McDonalds Brand Barbeque Sauce
(plus more for licking off pinky finger)
1 lg. Mcdonalds Brand Chocolate Milkshake
(plus more for bringing all the boys to the yard)
1 bottle Vanilla Vodka (recommended brand: Absolut)

Instructions:
Open the McDonalds bag. Eat one McNugg each, followed by two bites of the Filet-o-Fish (make sure you don't tell anyone that you eat Filet-o-Fishes).

Mix three or four shots of vanilla vodka in the McDonalds Brand Chocolate Milkshake, followed by one shot each directly into your mouth.

Rim each martini glass with McDonalds Brand Barbeque Sauce, and pour milkshake/vodka mixture into the glass. Garnish with a McNugg (which is to be swiped along barbeque sauce rimmed glass after the milkshake has been finished, and consumed with pure, unadulterated glee).

Once again, I am NOT making this up. My side eye has officially left the building.

There is a certain type of dumb, a specific brand of stupid, that causes the inner most working of my rage to find nourishment and replenish its desire to hunt, and destroy. What follows is a conversation I had with Stephanie concerning this very case of idiot that she presented to me. The picture in question is here (via Gizmodo):

And what you will notice, quickly, is that it makes little to no sense. To summarize, the young man states the following:

"I got this tattoo about 8 months ago. I believe it perfectly sums up my feelings towards George [Lucas]. I love Star Wars but I wish George would retire and leave the series in better hands."

Meet Sean Padilla:

He's an indie rock musician based in Austin, TX via Brooklyn, NY. His band (which is really just him) is called The Cocker Spaniels. He's one of the coolest, most intelligent, thoughtful and most laid-back cats you'll ever meet - just don't call him Lenny Kravitz or he'll be forced to go upside yo' hed foo! Er, yeah...

But anyway, he's got a really cool project on deck that I think people should know about. He's planning to do his third C. Spaniels album based entirely on patronage from ordinary folks around the way (that would be YOU there, o' faithful reader).

Here's an insight to how it works from the Mr. Padilla himself via the patronage info page over @ the C. Spaniels website:

Anyone who makes a donation of $25 or more to me, along with a story or anecdote about themselves, will get a Cocker Spaniels song written about them. The pricing scheme will be as follows:

$25-$49 donation = I will write a song based on your story or anecdote, with as much of your original wording preserved in the lyrics of the song;

$50-$99 donation = You'll get the song, with your name incorporated prominently in the lyrics;

$100+ donation = You'll get the song with your name in it, as well as a percentage of the royalties from the first pressing of the album when it's available for sale.

You can donate in one of two ways:

1) Paypal it to lovesickrockstar@yahoo.com, and send a separate e-mail to that same address with your story or anecdote

OR

2) Mail a check or money order with your story or anecdote to Sean Padilla @ 3018 S 1st St #201, Austin TX 78704.

Once I receive your donation and your story, I'll write a set of lyrics for it within seven days, and send them to you. If you approve the lyrics, I'll write and record the music within 21 days of your approval. You'll receive a CDR of the song, and I'll post an mp3 of it on my website. Once I have compiled an hour's worth of songs, I'll release a tangible version of the portrait album!

Although my primary motivation for doing this is money, I also consider this patronage system an artistic challenge to myself. Until now, most Cocker Spaniels songs have been based on things that I've directly experienced. This portrait album will be an opportunity for me to put more empathy into my music, to capture other people's thoughts and experiences in the same manner that I do my own. I vow to make these songs as true to my patrons' experiences as possible, and to craft them at the same level of quality that I have the previous two Cocker Spaniels albums.

A Brief Reflection...

Finally. 2008 has kicked rocks.

Generally speaking and on a very personal note, 2008 was a God-awful, shitty year. I was very much ready to send it packing off into the sunset, never to be seen again. Good riddance!

Despite 2008 giving me so much hell, I do have a major accomplishment that I'm very proud of: officially being free of all outstanding debts (student loans notwithstanding of course) as of Dec. 19, 2008.

Having that weight lifted from my shoulders has been immense. Now that the massive burden has been removed, I feel like I can take on other challenges that I've been struggling with and not merely operate on Survival Mode. Not only do I feel like I can take on existing challenges, I feel like I can address new challenges and I feel like I can conquer them. I actually feel optimistic about the upcoming year, which is an accomplishment in itself for me because I don't have the greatest outlook on very much in general.

Kevin (a.k.a Damn Shuggy Woo Woo) was kind enough to give me an Amazon MP3 e-gift card for Christmas. One of the songs I downloaded is by a Japanese singer named Monday Michiru. It's called "The Right Time" and I've loved it for some time now because it is sheerly epic in its composition and delivery. In context with what's going on in my life right now and what the rest of the world is facing at the moment, I think it's an appropriate song to serve as an anthem for the new year. If nothing else, it's a great song to dance to:

If Illa J looks familiar, it's because he stood in for Dilla in the video for "Won't Do" from his brother's 2006 posthumous release The Shining. It's a little scary how much they look alike - it's as if Ma Dukes used a rubber stamp to replicate her boys. So what do you make of a ridiculously multi-talented family who all look just alike? Hip-Hop first met Black Milk as a producer. He showcased his production on Slum Village’s Detroit Deli and Dirty District Vol. 2 as well as Lloyd Bank’s diss track “Death Wish,” amongst other projects. He eventually revealed more of his rapper persona with last year’s Popular Demand, and recently followed up with October’s Tronic. NER*D - Sooner or Later

My only gripe with this video (aside from the blatant Zune and Ciroc product placement) is the fact that they cut out 2 minutes of the song which were arguably the best. They could have left the first part of the face-melting guitar solo in there and used it to build more on the scenes at play. In the album version, it builds on a creshendo until it explodes into wonderful shredded guitar string fury. It also makes the song over 6 minutes long, so I suppose they're counting on people's short attention spans prompting them to close out the browser window or change the channel after 4 minutes *sigh*

Other than that, it's a dope video. And it always makes me happy to see Black folk gettin' on their rock shit without any reservations. The band they had in the background was badass.

Sooner or later. It all comes crashing down...

It's amazing how a song with a fairly simple message can take on so much meaning and significance when it is placed into context with a situation or event. Right now, N*E*R*D's "Sooner or Later" could be the anthem for the economic turmoil the nation is facing, the collapse of Wall St. and the Big 3 in the auto industry, the real estate crisis - take your pick.

Ominous implications aside, "Sooner or Later" is a great song. I can't even begin to try to explain how and why this song pisses excellence. I guess you can start with the face melting guitar riffs that completely take over the 2nd half of the song, and the clashing of the instrumentation which seems to match the "crashing down" that comprises the hook and go from there. I'm glad that they're not only releasing it as their 3rd single from Seeing Sounds but they've filmed a what looks to be a dope video for it. A real video this time, not...well this or this. Sooner Or Later - Behind The Scenes

I can't remember the last time I actually gave a damn about a music video, let alone felt genuine excitement for its release. This song excites me a great deal though, so I guess its only fitting - but the fact that the video is taking what's currently happening and putting it up against lyrics that offer admonition for careless behavior give me a feeling that it could be epic, just like the song itself. I'm not trying to be hyperbolic, just sayin' how I feel...

On a totally unrelated note, has anyone figured out what the hell Shay actually does in the group? He's in all the videos and the publicity shots but...I still don't know what his purpose is. Is he the electro-rock version of Jarobi perhaps? Just a thought © Gnarls Barkley

Q-Tip manages to throw these pretty dope parties at NYC club Santos Party House, and with all the excitement building up to a fevered pitch, people took to the streets to get ready for the New York celebration. Yours truly was trapped at the plantation for a while, but I got my freedom papers in the form of being the guy known for partying. While the rest of my comrades finished our legendary (if not to be seen) video documenting the November 4th election, I headed over to check out what all the fuss was about up the block from the 9-to-5.

The line outside was packed and the electricity could be felt in the air. It was probably how people felt when Joe Louis was declared the heavyweight champion of the world… of the world, Craig! Ladies were coming out looking their Saturday night best on a Tuesday, and the smiles weren’t just relegated for the stars and industry insiders – the everyday man was getting love too!

Word broke out that Obama won, and the game was just beautiful. Black love – hell… universal love! – was on front page and with that, the game decidedly shifted back to the light-skin brothas’ lane. With everyone hi-fivin’, huggin’ and sharing their tears of happiness for the former Chicago senator, this cutie with some slightly chinky eyes was burning a hole through ya boy.

Clockin’ in at 5′3″, 135 lbs, this girl had that whole Cassie/Lauren London vibe and was rockin’ an ill Obama tee. She walks up to me and gives me a huge hug. Almost on cue, Diddy walks in and the pace picks up about five notches. Something about Sean Combs makes people feel giddy, and the girl who shall remain nameless planted a juicy kiss on my cheeks and says, “Obama-riffic!” Cheesy, I know… But hell, she’s cute; what can you say?
