But PBS forges on with the awesome…Thursday August 9th,  PBS will air the Academy Award Nominated film, The Barber of Birmingham: Foot Soldier of the Civil Rights Movement.

In our era where Voter ID Laws are not-so-stealthily stripping individuals of the right to vote, the story of Civil Rights Foot Soldier, James Armstrong, takes you back to the days when “voting was worth dying for.”

Bigots gathered at Alabama Chick-Fil-A stores Wednesday to celebrate a special fellowship of hatred for gay people.   Ordained Baptist minister Mike Huckabee named August 1st, 2012 as Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day, a time set aside for hate-filled people  to feel warm and fuzzy as they mutually loathe any notions of equality for human beings that identify themselves as gay, lesbian, or bisexual.  Spending money at Chick-Fil-A of course means that the company has more money to give to hate groups like the Family Research Council.  Huckabee’s idea came in response to Chick-Fil-A CEO Dan Cathy taking heat for his very public bigotry.

The state of Alabama’s Department of Agriculture got on board by taking pride that state-raised chicken might be nourishing the hate-filled customers.

Jodie is the wife of North Carolina Senator Peter Brunstetter who wrote an Anti-Gay Marriage amendment…

….because that’s the only way the senator can buttfuck gay people without pulling his pants down.

But Jodie says there are more important reasons for the hate legislation:

“The reason my husband wrote Amendment 1 was because the Caucasian race is diminishing and we need to uh, reproduce.”  Source.

A Cornell University study says the Keystone Pipeline kills more jobs than it creates.  Now some jobs would be created for Canadians…which is fine, but don’t LIE and act like this is boon for America’s unemployed.  TransCanada admits ONLY 20 FUCKING FULLTIME permanent jobs will be created in the U.S.   So, fuck you, Artis.

Plus, TransCanada claiming eminent domain rights in Midwestern America is just fucking creepy.

And I wouldn’t expect Exxon to say this, but tar sands are an absolutely filthy source of petroleum.

Anna Brown: Dead at age 29

Brace yourself, Republicans!  It’s time for a poorgasm!!!

Anna Brown’s Missouri home was destroyed by a tornado in January 2010.  She relocated, lost her job, couldn’t pay the bills, lost utilities, got her kids taken away, became homeless and then eventually had to reach out for help at St. Mary’s Health Center because she was experiencing extreme pain in her legs.

Her killer doctor killer at St. Mary’s decided she was a broke-ass druggie looking to deprive St. Mary’s of precious pain killers.  The hospital called the police to haul her junkie-ass dying, clot-ridden body out on trespassing charges.

Who is void of dignity in this picture?

The Eric De La Cruz Hope for Hearts Foundation hosted a wine mixer and benefit to aid 24 year old Colby Salerno who is presently waiting for a heart transplant in a Connecticut hospital.

“Colby is an amazing young man whose strength, positivity, courage and overall approach to his illness is more than inspiring. I believe he has something to teach us all about life.”  Veronica De La Cruz, Hope for Hearts Foundation

Veronica De La Cruz is an NBC/MSNBC anchor. She founded Hope for Hearts after the death of her younger brother, Eric, who suffered from severe dilated cardiomyopathy and was denied insurance coverage due to his pre-existing condition. Veronica worked feverishly through social media and was able to raise funds for her brother’s heart transplant, but Eric De La Cruz passed away on July 4, 2009 before the surgery could happen.  She’s made it her mission ever since to help other heart transplant patients like Colby Salerno navigate the exhausting process.

Colby Salerno doesn’t feel his “story is more important than anyone else’s” he writes on his Tales from the 10th Floor blog.  But he’s thrilled about his own role in increasing awareness about organ donations.  He has spent the last 3 months in the hospital waiting for a heart transplant. Salerno has been living with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy for half of his young life. The condition causes the heart muscle to thicken, forcing the heart to work harder to pump blood. A heart transplant is Salerno’s best chance at life, and 3 months of hospital living haven’t soured him on his dream to go to medical school and become a cardiologist.

The Hope for Hearts Foundation has pledged $5,000 in financial assistance to the Salerno family.   Another young man on the Hope for Hearts’ radar is Sean Semon.  He was given a glimmer of hope yesterday:

I’m so proud of him.  He’s a radio producer at Island 106 in Panama City Beach, Florida.  

I was happy when I learned The Barber of Birmingham was nominated for an Academy Award.  The life of Civil Rights foot soldier James Armstrong  is worth celebrating.  Besides being a Barbershop owner and a World War II veteran, Armstrong successfully sued the Board of Education of Birmingham for failing to allow him to enroll his children in school.   He won.  In Spring 1963 Armstrong participated in daily protests.  Police arrested him for his efforts to desegregate a lunch counter at a Birmingham diner.  In 1965 he helped lead marchers across Selma’s Edmund Pettus bridge on “Bloody Sunday”.

I snapped several shots of Armstrong in Selma in 2009.  This is an excellent opportunity to share them.

The NYPD executed their famous “We’re a buncha pussies” tactical mojo on sleeping protesters in Zuccoti Park last night under the direction of Mayor Bloomberg.

You can see here how totally defiled the park was with herpes and poop once police evicted protesters and their belongings.

On behalf of protesters, the National Lawyers Guild got a little free speech and right to assemble love in the form of a court order first thing Tuesday morning.

Bloomberg is appealing the order before someone steals his billions.

Police went all Fahrenheit 451 (sans flames) destroying more than 5,000 books belonging to the Occupy Wall Street movement.

Well, I’ve been slammed with work for like a solid month–freaking 7 days a week.  A whiny slave.

My lack of free time put me in a state.  “I’ve got to do something for myself!”  I could paint, write, something, anything.  Then the boss man made a Smashwords prod again.  So I read up on it.  And I already knew publishing is in a damn tizzy right now.

Before Alabama passed its bigoted law, seeing Latinos around my town was as common as seeing whites, blacks, Asians, and Muslims.  I live in one of the most diverse communities in Alabama.  Great schools and shopping attract people to this area.  The traffic is usually a royal clusterfuck because everybody wants to buy shit here.

Last night I stopped for cheap gas near the Riverchase Gonorrhea Galleria mall.  The station is owned and operated by Latinos.

Awesome customer service!  

Besides paying at least a nickel less for fuel, the clerks are picking out my treats and vices before I get to the counter.  They know me.  I asked the clerk, “How’s business?”  …Mostly as idle chat, but also, this gas station is usually jammed packed from open to close because everybody around here wants cheaper gasoline.  It wasn’t too crowded.

He said, “Terrible.  Since that law, everybody’s gone or hiding.  Nobody comes out unless it’s dark.”

Super sadz.

This morning I made my weekly trip to the grocery store.  This is the second week in row that I found a parking spot right up front.  Usually, the parking lot is jam packed to the back.  Inside, the store is a veritable ghost town.  It’s weird.

And I keep thinking about Alabama’s role in the the Trail of Tears and the Indian Removal Act.  And the recent story about the principal in Jemison, Alabama who ordered all the Mexican kids into the gym, and how many of these elementary school children were crying because they thought they were being deported and another setting where a little black boy asked if he was going to be shipped to Africa.

Bigots are gleeful when they’re terrorizing people.

That great sucking sound is Alabama’s shrinking tax revenue, shrinking economy.  Farming alone is the state’s biggest money maker with $5-7 billion in revenue and $50 billion in economic impact.  The law comes at harvest time.  And a lot of farmers are talking about giving up.  They don’t have the time or patience to train prisoners and the unemployed.  The harvest is now.

But look how much whiter we are thanks to Bentley and Beason and the rest of the bigots in the Alabama legislature who sold this law to the nuts in our state as an economic boom.

It wasn’t enough for Demon Emeritus Dick Cheney to celebrate willful moral failure in his new book with his passionate defense of war crimes.  Naw, he went and insulted the only three people who pretend to like him.

One of these things is not like the other….maybe.

Norway had a person with the soul of a monster living among them.  His hatred fouled his humanity to the extent that he could gather children to him under the guise of protecting them and then murder them.  According to witnesses at camp, some of the children ran to the killer because their innocence could not let them conceive that a protector, a policeman, would be out to destroy them.  For an hour and half these children were hunted and killed, some likely drowned trying to swim away.
