Conservatives Battle Republicans

Sarah Palin Endorses Conservative Party Candidate

There was a Special Congressional election in New York State's Republican North Country and a Democrat won! In doing the research several weeks before the election when the Republican candidate was still in the race we had surmised that she and the "Conservative Party" candidate would "split the vote" and still one of them would prevail because Republicans vastly outnumbered the Democrats and the always viable Workers Family Party in registered voters.

New Zealand anti-boy-racing legislation passed - cracking down on the hoons....

Anti-boy-racer laws passed into law last night, banning cruising along some roads; car crushing legislation voted on today; cracking down on the hoon drivers!

A major crackdown on hoon boy racers comes into force in December, which will prohibit them from 'cruising' along some roads.

The anti-boy-racer legislation passed last night .

The Land Transport (Enforcement Powers) Amendment Act is one of six major law and order bills being pushed through Parliament under urgency over the next two weeks.

Transport Minister Steven Joyce says the new legislation will give greater powers for police to impound vehicles involved in street racing.

Farewell to NZ's clean and green image - very likely "green activists" claim...

Farewell to New Zealand's clean and green image - very likely "green activists" claim

A cash starved National Government considers allowing mining in Department of Conservation Estates in both North and South Island national parks. Will it be farewell to New Zealand's clean and green image? Opponents claim it could; the Green Party has actually produced a list of likely sites for potential exploitation. Mining and conservation are not great bedmates. Read further:

Green campaigners are not buying the Government line that there is nothing to fear in mining Department of Conservation (DOC) land.

NZ could patrol its home waters with 'drone' spy planes...

New Zealand could patrol its home waters with 'drone' spy planes...

Robotic "drone" spy planes flying by remote control could be used to patrol New Zealand's waters.

The Defence Force is keeping a "watching brief" over the unmanned planes, some of which have the range to conduct surveillance in the Southern Ocean around Antarctica, and in the Pacific Islands.

Drones are best known for their use to fire missiles against militants in Iraq and Afghanistan.

But their ability to spend up to 32 hours in the air and send back video images means they could take up the Air Force's role of monitoring New Zealand's exclusive economic zone and neighbouring waters for illegal fishing boats, and even search for lost vessels.

September Surprise Intercepted

As the baking-hot late summer days in the United States can change into crisp, cool nights in only several days the fall season is marked by rapidly shortening days.

As September is the start of the college and professional football seasons we are reminded of one of the most exciting plays when the team that is down by 3 points is on offense with the time clock ticking-off the last seconds of the game and the quarterback raises his arm and throws a long pass three-quarters of the way down field and...it is intercepted by the defensive back who runs it back all the way for a touchdown that cinches the game for the home team.

NZ SAS special forces troops will be sent back to Afghanistan on a further three year rotation...

NZ SAS special forces troops will be sent back to Afghanistan on a further three year rotation...

The New Zealand National Government decided yesterday to continue
New Zealand's military involvement in Afghanistan, and will send the SAS back to Afghanistan for another three year rotation. This is in spite of previous criticisms of their alleged involvement with torture claims of prisoners they had left with US forces. It has to be remembered that NATO is now in control of combined military forces in Afghanistan, not the US Government. This announcement came as the top US general there warned that the Taleban are gaining the upper hand. Please read further:

Guilt by its association with the Bush regime could spell bad news for NZ...

Guilt by association, bad news for New Zealand...

Guilt by its association with the Bush regime could spell bad news for New Zealand. While NZ kept their combat forces out of Iraq, they have been involved in Afghanistan for a number of years and have cost the New Zealand taxpayer millions of dollars..

Their highly proficient special forces, the SAS, apparently handed over 50-70 Afghan prisoners to the Americans from 2002, and now may be guilty by association with those responsible for torturing these prisoners. New Zealand could be guilty of "war crimes" because of that association with President George W Bush's campaign against terror.

Driving Range is a Problem as Electric Cars

are being promoted as a way for governments to limit the production of Carbon Dioxide and it's release into the atmosphere that is the cause of Global Warming.

General Motors has staked it's future on the Chevy Volt that will cost a reported $40,000 when it is introduced for the 2010 model year. It is been criticised as "too expensive" for a compact car that can seat four adults and has a driving range of forty miles. GM marketing executives say that the average person drives less than forty miles a day going back-and-forth to school and work so that limited range between recharging is acceptable.

Women Have More Political

Influence in the United States

After Hillary Clinton was denied the presidential nomination in the Democratic Party primary elections we had initially thought that the "Glass Ceiling" (as she so famously commented on) was the cause of her not becoming the candidate but there are more women Democratic voters then men, so that meant that more women had to have voted for Barack Obama than did for Hillary Clinton.

Alaska Governor Sarah Palin had been picked by Senator John McCain to be his vice presidential running mate, she did everything she could to energise his pathetic campaign and has continued to make news even as she appears to leaving the levers of government in Alaska to be operated by someone else:

Is the US under Obama returning to outdated export protection subsidies...

Is the US under Obama returning to outdated export protection subsidies...

First published at Qassia:

During the the 1980's and 90's the New Zealand economy underwent many fundamental changes during the changeover to market economics. Part of the process was the gradual reduction and eventual abolition of tariffs and export subsidies. This created much stress and economic hardship for New Zealanders. But the realisation that this was a process all economies were undergoing in the pursuit of a level economic playing field made the exercise more palliative.

But the announcement that the European Union and the United States were allegedly involving themselves in what could be termed another 'trade war' wasn't received too well by the New Zealand Government who fear NZ could become caught in a crossfire between the two economic superpowers, and could destroy hard earned progress in international trade talks; putting Kiwis standard of living at risk.

Fiji has been booted out of the Pacific islands forum...

Fiji becoming the basket case of the Pacific...

Despite last minute attempts by Fijian military dictator, Commodore Bainimarama to meet the leaders of Australia and New Zealand and negotiate a change of mind over sanctions against Fiji, Fiji will be kicked out, officially suspended from the Pacific Islands Forum, and possibly from the Commonwealth later in the year.

Bainimarama claims elections can't be restored for another five years, but this a load of codswallop! He claims to be the hero of multiracialism in Fiji, but is just another dirty little dictator like Robert Mugabe in Zimbabwe who dictated his country from being the bread-basket of Africa to becoming the basket-case of all time!

Professor Peter Davis, husband of former NZ PM Helen Clark, confirms she was rejected by NZ Voters - hero to zero - has sho..

Professor Davis, whose work commitments mean he will not be able to immediately accompany his wife to her new job in New York, said she had shown her real character.

"In politics you realise that you've got ups and downs, hero to zero etc, and you have to come back all the time and she has - and I think she has shown her true character in that respect," he said as Helen Clark looked on.

Asked if the long-distance marriage would mean they would end up with nothing to say to each other, Helen Clark said "definitely not".

"We've been together since 1977, we have common interests, common hobbies, we do a lot of things together and Peter's own job [as an academic] involves quite a bit of international travel with conferences."

Big Brother is alive and well, and trawling social network sites...

I was just reading a weekend paper here in Wellington, New Zealand, where an article reveals how "Big Brother" is alive and kicking and trawling social network sites to gain possible information on their members.

The article discussed how NZ government departments are trawling these sites for information that can be used against people on social welfare benefits for fraud purposes. One woman had been caught, redhanded you might say, because she admitted a relationship on the social networking site, and the department took a fraud case against her.

Former NZ PM Helen Clark appointed to UN post...

Helen Clark wanted to be the first prime minister to win four three year terms in the NZ parliament and government. She fell at the last hurdle after three terms.

She is arguably one of the best and most successful Kiwi PM's of all time. The NZ voters wanted change and her party was swept from power last November,2008.

Is it the end of Helen Clark? No way Jose!

She has just been appointed to the third highest diplomatic post in the world - administrator of the UN's Development Programme. The programme employs 8,000 people in 166 countries, has a budget of $5 billion , and is the UN's global development network, providing training, advice and support for developing countries.

The reality is that in sight of the state's capital skyline downtown is a tent city populated by Golden Staters with no place else to go.

California is the "seventh-largest economy in the world" as Governor Schwarzenegger likes to brag yet it's environmental laws and high taxes have caused businesses to move to China and Mexico leaving more Californians unemployed even before the current recession, now many hundreds of thousands of them are, Click Underlined Link:
