3 S Jam Session March 2008 - Off track

Sunil Dai who had been to Dubai for a couple of years is back here. The other Sunil Dai never left for anywhere and lastly another Sanuraja Dai is also here who runs the most popular music institute in town called “Kaleidoscope Music Institute. These three Dais are music veterans and they haven’t performed live for quite a while. It was only yesterday when we were all just have chats, one of them brought his laptop and showed us their old live performances. This is when they all decided to jam up though the day hasn’t been fixed I am anxiously waiting for that day. All of those 3 S dais know what guitar is. I have heard them playing Jimmi Hendrix, Joe Satriani, JJ Cale, Dire Straits, Eagles, ZZ Top to name some. And this time around I can’t wait to see them perform live which would just be a jam up session for them and no commercialization. One of the Sunil Dais is soon leaving for Dubai so they have planned to jam up. Everyone of those Dais were found to be saying, “Yeah its been quite sometimes we haven’t played together, let’s make a night”.

I have already booked a ticket (infact just a seat) to be with them when they will be jamming. I have seen a couple of music videos of those veterans and watched them jam and this time its going to be huge.

We will be having some good friends on that day and will be writing a good article dedicating those music veterans when the show finishes.

The internet and technology has been advancing at a very rapid speed. Every now and then, professionals as well as beginners seem to be attracted towards this field more than any other fields. When a new domain is to be registered, the domain name must be unique and the domain registration protocols provide few options on the time limit which normally starts from one year.

Now the fraudulence that I encountered was, one of my domains was soon expiring. I normally subscribe a period of one year. Let me bring to your knowledge that, my domain is registered at namecheap.com. The price that I had paid was somewhere around 10 dollars for a year. Before namecheap.com sent me a notification email regarding the expiry, a third party abcmnoxyz.com(assumed name) emails me and asks me to renew my domain before it expires. I would not want my domain to expire so I follow their link to renew my domain. Until that point everything was fine but when it was time for me to transfer the fund, I was shocked to see the price. The price quoted for one year was somewhere around 70 dollars whereas at namecheap.com with that sum, I can own my domain for seven years. This was the point where I got into confusion. Luckily, one of my friend suggested me not to renew the domain in the third party’s place. I should go and renew my domain at that very place where it is registered.

So, this is my suggestion to you all out there, don’t ever renew your domains somewhere else apart from the registrar where you had first registered your domain. When you’re on the verge of losing your valuable domain, the chances of you hurrying to renew your domain are very high and blindly following someone’s link other than the original registrar.
There are many self proclaimed domain registrars and you should be aware of them.

The perception is always very different among individuals when asked what this life is meant for. To some extent one or two of the answers may coincide but on a very rare occasion Everyone’s point of view may be unique and no one would be wrong, because each individual has his/her own way of living life.

There are crooks and thugs who have their own way of evaluating life. Wise and learned people have their own way. The crooks have their rights to spend their life in their way and they do not deserve any interference from anyone. It’s their life and they have the freedom of living their life in their own way. But the bad way of living their life might directly affect the good way of life of wise and the learned. Ironically, the good way of living never affects the bad life.

With new learned things, human beings have become more ignorant, more wealth gain is responsible for newer greed, the stronger they get, the weaker is tormented more and above all these, human beings have forgotten and overruled all the norms and ethics of humanity, duty and their responsibility. The love and respect have completely vanished where each individual acts more like a bull rather than a wise human being; become animals while the four legged creatures seem to be wiser and more intelligent.

Brothers killing brothers, fathers raping their daughters, husbands beating their wives, sons cheating fathers, teachers being kicked, disciples taught bad things, leaders leading their followers the wrong path, relatives sabotaging relatives, are the most frequent scenes at present. Human beings are on the verge of extinction. The human era is almost at the end. With their own pride, they are going to vanish in a very near future.

Dealing Credit Crisis

What particular measures could be initiated to fight the current credit crunch seen in the west? Every capitalism theory has gone wrong and no economist had ever had the slightest of ideas of this credit crunch, in fact this kind of crisis is always uncertain. Many employees have lost their jobs, the biggest motor companies and even banks too; they are on the verge of bankruptcy. Is it the possible aftermath of 9-11? In some way, we can point that particular incidence responsible for today’s credit crisis. Did America choose the wrong policy of war? Is the wealthiest nation in the world heading back to the primitives? Many other nations of the world are sheltered under America’s finance and policies and would it be the sole reason which is responsible for poor nations being the hardest hit? So what now, what are the precautionary steps which should be initiated at immediate to deal with the crisis?

To a simple understanding of my alike, this may have occurred due to the excessive allowance of credit facility. A barter system would have done better rather than granting credit facilities. The investors invested huge sum of money in building real estates and sold them. And now to deal with the credit crisis, my opinion is to save less and spend generously. Saving is good but excessive saving is not good. “Saving is a vice, not a virtue” economists say so. If everyone started saving few and spend the rest lavishly, it would definitely help the global economy to boom. Fearing the current credit crisis, many people could have been saving money expecting the situation to worsen, which is not a good practice at all. Just spend everything you have and save a little for the possible worst consequences.

If the largest motor manufacturing companies sell automobiles at a cheaper rate and every buyer bought them without any hesitance, cash would start flowing which would eventually take care of the financial crisis.

Every band has its own story regarding the formation and signing a record deal with big companies. The story might go like this. Some three or four guys would meet up somewhere and due to their similar interest they would form a band and perform in the local gigs and pubs. They would one day be spotted by some label company’s personnel and would be offered to record an album. This is what the normal story goes. Some might achieve success and some might not.

The story of Creed also happens to be a very usual one with Mark Tremonti and Scot Stapp being friends for a long time decided to form a band. With two other members joining the band they formed Creed. They then released an album called "My Own Prison" which went to become a platinum album. The album had some great and catchy numbers which helped Creed gain maximum popularity. Following this hit album, they released two other albums "Human Clay" followed by "Weathered" which did very well in the market. After the third album "Weathered", Creed came into extinction and they no more evolve in the music scene.

There could be so many reasons why Creed became such a hit band in a short span of time. Scot Stapp’s magical voice could be one of them and Mark Tremonti’s terrific drop D tune in his guitar works could be another. Perhaps the lyrics and writing skills of Scot Stapp is another factor which made Creed a very hit band in such a shot span of time.
The extinction of Creed has also some reasons. As stated by the other band members, Scot is good only at studios and is very bad in doing live shows. So, the band members were not happy with Scot and this is the main reason behind Creed’s extinction.
But as far as I am concerned, Scot sang well and I really liked his voice. Tremonti’s guitar works suited him very well and Creed happens to be my favorite band of all time.

There are so many hindi songs which have been copied ditto. I don’t remember the names of those hindi songs however hearing the melody we can make it out that this is a copied version.

The first one I remember is a song copied exactly from the classic number of “Shadows” called “Retun to Elomo” but I don’t know the name of the hindi song. The hindi version is exactly the same as that of Shadow’s. This number by the Shadows is an instrumental one and is a very soothing one. As I have heard, one of the great guitarist of all time Eddie Van Halen did all the lessons including each and every number of this particular band Shadows while he was in his initial stages of playing guitar.

Another one which is copied in the same manner is from the hit number of Europe called “Final Countdown”. Just listen to this one and again listen to the copied hindi version you will laugh, I bet.

Another I remember is the hit number of Vanilla Ice called “Ice ice baby”. This song has also been copied ditto in one of the hit hindi number, the name of the song however I don’t remember.

The Inland Revenue department raided the shopping complex at Kichapokhari some days ago. The Inland Revenue department had received serious information regarding some businessmen and trading stores being involved in generating extra profit by fraudulent book keeping and by omitting value added taxes. This raid somehow created chaos in and around Kichapokhari and daily activities were disrupted for sometimes. The complex which houses more than a hundred stores were all closed and they stated that “IRD is disrespectful”. Some shop owners even manhandled the Inland Revenue Department staffs that were there to carry out the operation. The area remained tense when the shopkeepers indulged themselves in pelting stones at the security personals. To protest such act of raid all the shops remained closed on the following day. The daily transaction was halted.

Analysing the incidents and the acts of both, the Inland Revenue Department and the entrepreneurs, it’s a pity. There are many entrepreneurs who don’t keep proper books in regards to their accounts and are found to be cheating both the revenue department and the final consumers as well. They don’t pay the value added tax to the government and they are also involved in buying and selling products which are generally under invoiced. This kind of transaction is very unhealthy for the nation but those who are involved in such under invoicing trades are successful in making a lot of money in no time.

Those entrepreneurs sounded quite convincing when they stated that, IRD was being disrespectful, but as a common citizen the IRD is not at all disrespecting the traders. What if an IRD team raids a retail store or a whole sale store and finds no trace of cheating the Inland Revenue Department? In this case, aren’t their dignity lifted up even more? Wouldn’t everyone prosper if everyone maintained proper books and pay the tax in a proper way?

Looking at the traders at R.B. Complex’s behaviour, they all seem to be doing fraud business. Had they been very loyal with the Inland Revenue Department, there seems to be no problem if they are raided. We all know, no customer gets a proper tax invoice in any purchase. If a customer buys a product and asks for a proper tax invoice, they have to pay extra bucks of 13 percent of the marked price while the VAT is already supposed to be included in the marked or tagged price.

The Inland Revenue Department should be stricter with the traders and bring them all under tax.

Nepal is such a place where entrepreneurs are seen to be doing and giving their best but they lack originality. If someone either a group or a corporate or a business firm is found to be doing well in a specific sector, every this and that investors turn towards that particular business. And when a business is flourishing, everyone tends to do that very business until none of them could resist the competition.

Some decades back, we have seen a large number of private schools on the rise. In the beginning phases, they all made enough money. The number of schools being established at that time was very high. At present they don’t seem to earn as many of those schools are out of existence and some of them are providing low quality education. In the initial stages all those schools had a quality education in offer because the competition was getting tougher.

After the schooling business, every one turned up to start a plus two college. This particular investment also yielded enough profit for quite a while. Some teachers and lecturers used to form a group and instantly started a new plus two college. Not all but some of those plus two colleges were really ridiculous with only two rooms with no adequate facilities but those colleges have already vanished.

After schools and colleges, at present there are educational consultancies. In some places there are unbelievably large number of hoarding boards with fancy graphics and attractive schemes. These educational consultancies have also made enough money which doesn’t require large capital and this business is doing quite well at present.

Another sector which is getting high attention is housing and real estate business. This investment however requires a big sum of capital and mostly cent percent of the commercial banks are involved in this business. However, this investment doesn’t seem to be good in the long run. There are already a number of housing colonies, apartments, condos, villas luring customers which include both local as well as expatriates with attractive financial schemes and the topmost facilities that a house has to offer.

This particular investment however can lose its charm in the very near future but as of now, housing and real estate have been the most fruitful investment.

Tumbling Economy

While the rest of the developed countries are facing credit crisis, Nepal remained untouched for quite sometimes. The international recession had nothing to do with the local share markets and thus the nepali economy was referred to as an insulated economy. The banks are doing fine, the gold market is upto date with the international market but the economy has been terribly hit by load shedding.

Nepali labours are among the cheapest labours and most of the nepali people are engaged in jobs overseas. With the down fall of the finance in such job providing nations, the internal remittances have also been hit hard. Of the total revenue collection, foreign employment contributes seventeen percent of the whole and this has caused some trouble with the local economy.

Leaving the remittance, load shedding has been the main factor which is pushing the economy to the lowest. Sixteen hours of load shedding a day had caused a severe pain in industries and the likes. The lack of consistent power supply has caused many industrial operations to a complete halt which means no productions at all. If there’s no production, how can the industries possibly sustain? How and what could an industry produce in a limited time of eight hours?

The government has failed to deal with this terrible disaster and thus the economy is in a shaky state. If the load shedding continues, it is for sure than a number of industries would be forced to shut and hundreds and thousands of jobs would be lost. The government then would have to deal with the unemployment problem as many people working abroad have been sent back home due to their own economic crisis.

The only option here with the government is to purchase electricity from the neighboring countries for the time being and help run the industries smoothly. Apart from purchasing electricity, there’s no any options left if not to let the economy tumble.

Nepali economy is insulated, it may be true but with the current circumstances, the economic turmoil seen in the developed nations coincides with the local economic turmoil. If not seen a direct relation of the local economy with the international economy, the turmoil has affected the nepali economy proportionately.

Recently two commercial banks floated share that opened for general public and the same thing happened yet again. The Citizens’ Bank International has floated three million units of shares for general investors at a par value of Rs.100.00 but as early as the third day, the application had been received worth of Rs.5.00 billion, approximately more than 15 times. The issue manager of Citizens’ IPO, the Ace Development Bank would be forced to stop receiving applications as the application is hugely oversubscribed.

The Bank Of Asia which has also floated the same number of shares as Citizens’ Bank International is expected to be the same. The number of application will easily outnumber the allotted shares.

The banking sector is the only sector which has been doing very well in the stock market. No single bank’s share is transacted under par. The highly anticipated share of Nepal Telecom is not able to do well as investors have invested somewhere around Rs.550.00 for a single share.

Ironically, only banks share do good in the market and general public and investors have high hope of getting good return from bank’s shares.

Labor Disputes

Labor disputes have hampered a lot of industries at present. The main reason for this dispute amongst the labors is the minimum salary determined by the government. The government had decided to provide a minimum salary of Rs.4,600.00. Without any consultation with the industries and business entrepreneurs, the government decided to determine the minimums pay scale to all the workers.

There are many industries which have completely come into a halt with such agitating workers and the whole economy has been badly affected. Though the minimum pay scale to all the workers from different fields seems quite justifiable, but many industries have already announced their incapability of paying such amount. The government sounded very rude with such industries saying that, if an industry can’t afford to pay the minimum pay scale, there’s no point running such industries and thus should be collapsed.

With the political turmoil, many workers union have already padlocked many factories demanding the pay scale according to the government’s plan. Because of such closures, general public as well as the industries have been terribly hit. The industries had already been slapped hard with the load shedding and the production has already gone down compared to the previous year’s performances.

Revised Price Of Petroleum Products

In the last couple of months the world witnessed the price of petroleum products rocketing real high. The price per barrel of crude oil had reached to 145 dollars in recent times. With the credit crisis seen in the US it has somehow brought negative impact on petroleum products and gold. The price of petroleum products has gone down to 70.00 dollars per barrel. The OPEC has been working out on this as they have lowered the production of petroleum products.

This however has affected a very little in the local market. When the price of petrol in the international market was marked at around 145 dollars, the local price per liter of petrol used to cost 100.00 rupees. Now that the international price of petrol has gone down, the Nepal Oil Corporation has revised its price of petrol at a new standard of Rs.95.00 per liter.

Along with the price of petrol, the price of diesel has been reduced to Rs.70.00 per liter which used to cost Rs.80.00 per liter. The price of Liquid Petroleum Gas is still to be restructured.

The price determined by the Nepal Oil Corporation differs with the price that the final consumers have to pay. The gas station and pumps have fixed their own prices which is Rs.0.50 higher than the actual price that Nepal Oil Corporation has fixed.

The difference in the price of petrol in the international marked as for now and at the time when it was at its heights is 75.00 dollars and the respective difference in the local market is just Rs.5.00 per liter. The worth of one dollar in the local market is approximately Rs.80.00 and when comparing the revised price of petrol, the difference is of just 0.0625 dollars.

Nepal Oil Corporation has always been in debt and thanks to the lowered price of petroleum products in the international market, which has helped Nepal Oil Corporation to make some profit this time around.
