This mom treads light in a teenager’s space and I dare not pierce the quiet with questions. Instead, I welcome what she offers and watch from the window; this girl now a young woman full of life and tomorrows needing room and space and finding it out in the air; with the rake and shovel turning soil and making sense out of the day. She’s a puzzle; each intricate piece chiseled from stubborn stone, yet polished bright to reflect the sun.

I remember my own long afternoons spent in boots and hay and barn and horses chomping to the rhythm of my youth. He made the 6-hour trek down to our house and delivered my beautiful buffet; a cabinet from around the ‘40s in well-loved condition though bearing a few “wrinkles” here and there, just like the rest of us. He and my husband wrestled with it through the door and settled it in front of the living room window. I immediately thought of how I’d decorate it for the holidays and how pretty plants, candles and family photos would look displayed across the top.

It’s become more worn since then. A few more signs of life have marred the surface and a couple drawer handles are now broken. I’ve thought about refinishing it, but quickly shy away from the work involved. I considered maybe just adding a layer across what’s been done before, but why do a restoration job half way? When such a thing is meant to fool the eye, we’re only fooling ourselves….right?

I, for one, would never want to be refinished half way.

It only produces a dull surface to add layer upon layer in an attempt to get the full results. It takes the strength of the Lord to get to the heart, to peel back those layers and expose the true wood grain that lies beneath with its natural beauty and character. It takes the complete stripping away of failed attempts made over the years to receive the perfect work of God’s “refinishing,”

He doesn’t just add one more layer upon our failed workmanship.

There are no shortcuts to the process when we’ve set our minds to be fully restored in Him. I love it! It does amazing stuff…..I think :/ I’ve taken a few pictures with it, but I confess it’s a little confusing.

So, I took a few minutes to sit down and actually check out the instructions (duh?). Easier said than done. The print is so small, or maybe it was bad lighting….or my eyes are getting old. Either way, I got frustrated and decided I’d have to just figure it out as I go along.

Funny thing about that way of thinking. Making the decision to figure things out as they come sort of obligates us to accept the easy along with the difficult; the trials AND the triumphs.

In a sense, it’s kind of like becoming a Christian. We have this brand new and wonderful thing in front of us. We know it will bless us and change our lives…maybe even change the lives of others…but the “user’s manual” definitely takes some studying to understand all that it’s capable of doing, as well as just how to use it! So, in faith, we say, ‘Ok, I’ve made this decision to follow you, Lord, to trust in you for all things and to walk in your ways. I don’t have it all figured out, but I want to 'use it anyway' (just like using my brand new camera). And when I stumble and make mistakes, maybe get things a little ‘out of focus,’ I can go back to the manual, figure out what I did wrong and make it right again.”

The blessing can only come about when we study the Word and learn all we can about the indescribable gift of knowing Jesus. If we go about it blindly, using the gift with limited knowledge and never bother exploring its full capabilities, we miss out on the true blessing…..sort of like clicking pictures in the dark without a flash.

There’s a reason for the stuff, whether embraced or defied, and how it all kneads together to make us who we are.

I look back to the days when I couldn’t see beyond the stuff. Back when the stuff ruled me, dictated who I was, stood firm between me and the Lord. Back then, the stuff blocked out the Word and its meaning and its power.

Do you find yourself in the middle of stuff today? Maybe you can’t see beyond it to the blessings on the other side. Maybe all you can think about is the stuff and you wonder why in the world God lets you sit in the middle of so much of it all at once. Sometimes, the stuff isn’t just all around. It rains down from above and pounds its way into your heart and you fight back until your strength is shredded…until you are shredded.

Maybe it’s time to give your stuff to Jesus.

All of it! Give it over to Him through prayer and trust…by reading His Word.

Why?

Because only Jesus can make something God glorifying

out of all our stuff!

We surely can't!

We can only stir it up, you and I. We live it and come out damaged and bruised from the battle, but it takes the God who loves us, who died for us and rose for us to bring the blessing out of our pile of stuff.

Give Him your stuff today. He’s faithful to bring the blessing tomorrow.

2 Corinthians 4:8-9
“We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed.”

Back when the only leading I followed was my own. It seemed I was “mom,” lower-case, and nothing more; confined to a tiny world of self pity and constant seeking. I couldn’t see beyond the piles of Play-Do, Hot Wheels race tracks and dismembered Barbie dolls with crazy, ratty hair. I lived in my little world of 4 walls nearly paralyzed with an inner turmoil consuming my days as I struggled to find peace, meaning…worth. Not a temporary peace, but one that begins deep within~a peace meant to be shared.

But such things can only come from the Lord’s presence; a real

relationship with Him and a constant communication.

I’m praising God today for that relationship. The articles are written from the hearts of ten Christian bloggy sisters (plus myself) who have agreed to ride the waves of this journey with me. I’m so excited about this project and can’t wait to see how God will use it to help bring encouragement and hope to women all over the country. I would love to see it utilized in women’s ministries, women’s facilities, mom’s groups, individually, etc. My hope is that we will be the hands and feet of Him bringing women the same hope and light that lifted me out of my dark world and gave me purpose; to share the truth that you are "YOU," in all caps...all because of Jesus!

Be sure and leave a comment if you'd like to be notified via email of our first issue release date and do check out our web site at: http://christianwomensvoice.blogspot.com/

My hope is that, regardless of the year it’s been for you, may you capture each precious passing moment and savor it in your heart. Let it embellish who you are and add warmth and color to your soul that will last the whole coming year. Let conversations around the table, quiet moments with loved ones, the simple smell of coffee in the morning or sunlight sparkling through icicles all be like little snapshots captured and fully enjoyed. As one goes out and gathers elements of nature to bring beauty to her home, the richest blessings are born from our internal “gathering” moments settled by the fire or in the bustling of our kitchens….funny how the simplest, sweetest joys seem to last the longest.

You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand. (Psalm <st1:time minute="11" hour="16">16:11</st1:time>)

either fall victim to circumstances or rise above in strength and beauty – all to the glory of the Creator of beauty itself.

Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’ (John 7:38) ESV

And the words whisper, but whisper strong - when everything around you is in disarray and your world screams chaos, bloom anyway! Tap into the one true source of living water – the well that never runs dry. Let it flow and nourish from within. Let it take over your own resources and complete you with unexplainable peace that you may be that one bright spot for Jesus.

My prayer for you today is that you’ll bloom for Jesus and bring the holy fragrance of His love to your world.

And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment. (Rev. 21:6) ESV

So much to do and frustrated that the minutes seem to strap on their running shoes when my list is so full. Like a fresh horse straight out of the chute, I don my “Super-Mom” cape and head out.

Right away, a cell phone call from daughter.

Then off to the office supply store.

Stop by and pick up a meal to bring to an elderly woman from our church. It was my assigned night and it was the least I could do. A quick thanks to God for providing hot soup, bread and fruit all under one roof.

Stop here.

Run in there.

Pick up daughter.

Drop off daughter.

Stop by the bank…

Stop by the bank - who knew a simple errand would stop me in the middle of my rush of things – slow my breathing to normal and shift my mind to more humble beginnings.

There, across the street from the bank parking lot, the same bank parking lot we’ve come in and out of for the past 23 years, stood our old apartment. I see it just about every week, but today, something clicked. The memories flip past like a slideshow and I breathe deep. I pass slowly by the meandering arbors smothered in masses of trumpet vine, their trunks gnarled and thick as they weave high above stone walkways.

I paused and stared pushing aside my to-do list for the moment just to absorb the feeling of true thankfulness.

<img style="float:right;
We’d moved into the simple structure, my husband and I, only 3 months after we were pronounced husband and wife. We’d packed up our dreams for the future into a U-Haul truck and drove 4 hours away to our new home; away from family and all things familiar, to begin our new life together. It was there that we began laying the groundwork for today. It was there that our first marital spats pierced the heart, and there that the fine art of giving and receiving took place. We truly pinched pennies back then learning the limits of each dollar and each other. It was just the beginning of our “for better or for worse,” there where God chose to really knit our hearts together with a forever kind of love. It was there that our son was born and our lives were changed forever.

I paused again to look to the arbors remembering the cool breeze of fall mornings as a new mom with my son safely tucked in the stroller as we walked beneath the trumpet vine. The cherished memory of the day when we ventured down the street to the little shop where I bought him a blue hat.

I pulled out onto the street taking one more glance and I realized how God ordained this moment, too. I thought of how He wants me to revisit the early days and to never forget where I’ve been in order to be completely thankful for where I am.

I love how He uses the simple, ordinary moments to speak the loudest and reach the deepest parts of me.

I drive away humbled and thankful praising God for our very simple start – may He never let me forget.

Remember how the LORD your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands. He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.

(Deuteronomy 8:2-3) NIV
