Is Demand Studios legit? This is the question on the minds of many freelance writers and professionals that specialize in web content. Well, if you have worked for Demand Studios before, then you know that they are a legitimate source for writing work. After you are accepted as part of the Demand Studios writing team, you are then able to search through their listings for article topics to write on. You basically claim a topic, and then have a set amount of time to write it (about a week). This company creates unique content for sites like eHow, golf link, Livestrong.com, You Tube, and Trails.com.

First of all, you should know that it is not that difficult to apply for a writing position with Demand Studios. You simply fill out some forms online regarding your past writing experience, education and expertise concerning specific topics/niches. In regards to pay, articles 500+ words in length are worth about $15, while 200-300 word articles are worth $7.50. There are also shorter pieces you can check out and work on for less compensation if you like. As you have probably guessed, the range of topics is quite broad, and there is a little something for most writers.

Now for the specifics! Be aware that Demand Studios has a lot of little guidelines that pertain to what you write and how you write it. These details are presented to you from the beginning. So once you claim a topic, write about it, and then submit it to Demand Studios, it will be read and scrutinized by one of the editors they have on staff. If he/she does not like it for some reason or another, it will be sent back to you with instructions regarding edits that need to be made. This is where you need to tread carefully if you want to receive any payment for this piece. After all, you only get one chance to edit it correctly. If you make changes and resubmit it, but the editor does not think the changes you made are adequate, the topic and article are closed to you. Now you get nothing for the time you spent on that particular piece. Hmmm.

Although all employers have guidelines and specifics that must be followed by writers, it can be a tad frustrating to spend an hour on something, and then receive no compensation for your hard work. While Demand Studios does not fire you, they do tell you to move on to other topics. The problem I have with this is I do not believe you should spend your valuable time working on something and then receive no compensation for it. Does a software engineer spend a day troubleshooting a new computer program, but then not get paid for the day’s work if the software does not work correctly when it is time to head home? I seriously doubt it!

I have read a number of complaints from other freelance and web content writers about the ways of Demand Studios. Keep in mind that this is certainly a make-many make-large company that primarily cares about their own monetary gain. Not that this is a big surprise! However, if you choose to write for them, just remember that when you select a topic to write on, you may or may not get paid for your time and effort. Do you write screenplays? This is one form of writing I absolutely love doing in my spare time. It's not just about writing for extra income or to pay the monthly bills.
