A Public Apology to Mr Al Chuah of Cosway (M) Sdn Bhd

I would like to apologise to the CEO of Cosway (M) Sdn Bhd, Mr Al Chuah, in regards to my previous blog which contains unjustified facts of the complete operations of the organization as a whole.

It is with utmost regret I recklessly posted the article without any verification, which I received through electronic mail and my action has caused distress to Mr Chuah and his company. It was without any intention to cause Mr Chuah or Cosway any harm.

I know that I have influence in the space and need to make sure that I do so responsibly.

Suffice to say, Cosway and its products has benefited a lot of people from all walks of life for many years and will, for many more years to come.

The newest version of Apple popular iPhone has already hit the Chinese market — the fake market that is.

The 'hiPhone 5' is selling for as little as 200 yuan ($31) on China's top e-commerce platform Taobao, which is owned by Alibaba Group.

But one has to pay around 800 yuan for a more "genuine" one, according to some shop clerks at a mobile phone market in Shanghai.

"Look at this. It's not the same as the 300-400 yuan ones," Shanghai-based daily Metro Express quoted a clerk as saying, pointing to one originally priced at 850 yuan.

The 'hiPhone 5' is based on leaked images of the yet-to-be-launched iPhone 5 and is thinner and with less rounded edges than the existing iPhone 4, according to the newspaper. However, it is extremely light, almost like a plastic toy, like most pirated mobile phones, it said.

Western governments have repeatedly criticised China for widespread violation of intellectual property rights, but pirated goods from branded watches, to bags and computer software can be easily found in shops.

Last month, an American blogger set off a media storm after she posted pictures of an elaborate fake Apple Store in Kunming, selling genuine if unauthorized iPhones, Macbooks and other widely popular Apple products.

Reuters also uncovered a look-a-like of the Swedish furniture giant Ikea in the southwestern Chinese city.

KUALA LUMPUR: The price of RON97 petrol will go up by 20 sen to RM2.70 per litre effective midnight tonight, according to the Petroleum Dealers Association of Malaysia (PDAM).

PDAM deputy president Datuk Zulkifli Mokti said the increase was due to the rise in the price of crude oil to US$114 per drum this week from US$105.

"This is due to the crisis in the Middle East," he said when contacted by Bernama tonight.

Zulkifli said the price was likely to increase in the future due to the situation in the Middle East which he added could prolong.

On Jan 31, the price of RON97, which was floated according to the prevailing oil market price, rose by 10 sen to RM2.50 per litre.

A former top finance official in North Korea was executed over a currency reform that caused a number of problems in the secretive Communist nation, according to South Korea's official Yonhap news agency.

Pak Nam-gi was executed last week at a shooting range in Pyongyang, Yonhap reported Thursday, citing multiple sources. He was held responsible for "the country's currency reform fiasco that has caused massive inflation, worsened food shortages and dented leader Kim Jong Il's efforts to transfer power to a son," the news agency said.

Pak was chief of the planning and finance department of the ruling Workers' Party, Yonhap said. He was fired in January.

In December, North Korea revalued its currency, called the won, at a rate of 100 to 1, according to the U.S. State Department - the equivalent of lopping off two zeros, according to Time magazine.

In addition, according to the State Department, new laws were implemented including regulating consumption, tightening state control on the market and banning possession or use of foreign currencies. "The redenomination appears to have resulted in increased inflation and confiscation of wealth earned by private traders and others working outside state-controlled sectors of the economy," according to the department.

According to Time, the North Korean government gave citizens less than a week to exchange their old currency notes for new ones, and limited the amount they could exchange to 100,000 won, or less than $40 at black-market exchange rates, declaring that any amount above that would be worthless.

Following an outcry, the magazine reported in December, the limit was raised to 150,000 won in cash and 500,000 won in bank notes.
But, Time said, the reform stripped those who run small private food markets from the cash they need to run their businesses. Those private
markets developed across North Korea since a famine there a decade ago, the magazine said, and enable "an increasing number of North Koreans to feed themselves and earn a basic living by trading."

North Korea watchers in South Korea believe the change was implemented because of "a widening gap between the haves and the have-nots" in North Korea, and also to allow the Communist regime to regain control.

"Small traders and black markets existed outside of government control, and by definition at some point the regime was not going to tolerate that," Time magazine quoted analysts as saying.

A 2005 human rights report from the State Department said the North Korean regime had executed several "political prisoners, opponents of the regime, some repatriated defectors and others, including military officers suspected of espionage or plotting against Kim Jong Il" in recent years.

In April 2004, the government enacted a new code that provided for execution for only the "serious" or "grave" cases of four "anti-state" or
"anti-nation" crimes, the report said. Those crimes included participating in a coup aimed at overthrowing the government; acts of terrorism "for an anti-state purpose"; treason, which included defection or giving state secrets; and "suppressing the People's Movement for national liberation."

MUAR: The happy chatter of children turned into screams of horror when an unidentified man armed with a hammer barged into a kindergarten here and bludgeoned three six-year-olds. Six-year-old Vincent Tey being wheeled into the ward at the Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital in Muar.

In the morning incident which shocked the residents of the usually peaceful Lorong Haji Ali, the man rode up to the kindergarten and parked his motorcycle outside.

Holding a hammer in one hand, he climbed over the fence and kicked open the locked grill that led to the main hall of Tadika Sinario.

Some 20 children were having breakfast at the time, under the watchful eyes of kindergarten operator Voon Siew Kuin, 45.

The children were at first shocked to see a stranger charging into their kindergarten, but became horrified when violence unfolded in the next few minutes.

Three of them, including a girl, were hit on the head. The other children screamed as they tried to flee.

The man then ran away when Voon recovered and chased after him with a broom.

When he reached his motorcycle, he threatened Voon by waving the hammer at her before riding away.

Apart from her, the only other adult at the kindergarten was a helper in her 50s. She was in the kitchen when the attack happened.

Voon and the assistant rushed the three children to the Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital at about 10.20am as they were bleeding profusely on the head.

The two boys, Vincent Tey and Alex Tan, and the girl, Nur Nadrah Nabilah Mohd Yusri, underwent emergency treatment, including thorough head scans.

Nur Nadrah’s father Mohd Yusri Mukhlis was thankful that his daughter was not critically hurt.

He was horrified when he was earlier misinformed that Nur Nadrah had died. His wife, Farah Asyikin Abu Samah, went limp when she heard the news.

“We were relieved when we met the doctors at the hospital and were told of her condition,” he said at the hospital.

The three children were later sent to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor Baru.

A mother’s grief: Farah Asyikin collapsed in shock when she was wrongly informed that her daughter was dead at the hospital yesterday.
