The theme this year is ‘Love.’

Ewan will be speaking on a panel entitled “Love in Motion: Why are Mobile Social Networks booming?” alongside Dr K F Lai (Buzz City) and Antonio Vince Staybl (Itsmy.com) with Ferhan Cook (Any Screen Productions) in the chair. The starting point may be the panellists own networks, but the conversation is likely to branch out quickly to take in a lot of the mobile market.

Personal Assistant / General Administrator wanted by London-based entrepreneur

Here’s a job specification that went out today. I haven’t edited it, so it’s written in the third person.

Paul Walsh is Chairman of the British Interactive Media Association (BIMA); founder of mobile social network, Wubud and of Web certification company, Segala. He’s one of the UK’s highest profile interactive media entrepreneurs… and he needs help.

Specifically, he needs a Personal Assistant and General Administrator to manage his increasingly hectic professional and personal life. The ideal candidate will be smart, confident, worldly and able to use initiative under pressure. They will also be capable of undertaking a wide range of tasks including – but definitely not limited to…

Diary Management
Paul frequently meets with key players in the social media sector, as well as clients and suppliers. You will be responsible for arranging these meetings (and if necessary re-arranging them at short notice), setting agendas and venues, co-ordinating follow-ups and more.

Travel
Paul’s work takes him around the world – from London to Dublin, San Francisco to Hong Kong and beyond. As well as accompanying Paul on some of these trips, you will be tasked with booking flights, arranging hotels and handling a variety of short-notice travel and accommodation requirements.

Events
You will be required to assist Paul in the organisation of industry conferences, including sourcing venues, co-ordinating seminars and arranging appropriate corporate entertainment. This aspect of the job would suit a ‘people person’. If this isn’t you, please don’t apply.

Correspondence and Financial
Paul receives a great deal of correspondence and it will be your responsibility to handle his emails, letters and phone calls. You’ll need to prioritise messages – responding to the important ones and politely handling the timewasters. In addition, you will be responsible for a variety of exciting day-to-day financial tasks including managing bill payments, recording and submitting monthly expense claims, invoice generation (and chasing) and payment reconciliation.

HR & Recruitment
As Paul’s various business interests continue to grow, your role will be to help recruit the people required to support that growth. In practical terms, this means sourcing recruitment agencies and co-ordinating job advertising, screening candidates, arranging interviews as well as general personnel administration.

Entertainment
Paul is constantly entertaining – in both senses of the word. To help him stay that way, you will be called upon to book restaurants; arrange theatre, concert and sporting event tickets; plan activities and days out, RSVP to invitations and generally handle his social diary.

Administration
The ideal candidate will be on first name terms with the Microsoft Office paperclip as this will be a great help in producing board reports, presentations, spreadsheets and more.

Personal Administration
As well as managing Paul’s business life, your role will cross over to co-ordinating various aspects of his personal life. This will include managing bill payments and banking, renewing memberships, arranging and co-ordinating holidays and short breaks as well as taking care of everything else required to allow Paul to make the most of his frighteningly limited free time.

Think this person might be you or someone you know? For more information on this role including salary and benefits, please contact Paul by email paul@segala.com

No recruitment agencies please. None. Absolutely zero. Zilch.

Did you know that Wubud is spread across 5 countries, 2 timezones and 3 languages? Well, it is. And now Paul is flying the corporate banner from our new base in Soho, London.

You might have read it here first. He’s now sharing an office with Alex Tew (milliondollarhomepage.com) and Paul Birch (Bebo, Birthday Alarms and Cominded).

Paul is excited about the move. He loves being around such creative likeminded people.

Everyone in the office is currently working on social network-related projects, so you can only imagine the creative juices flowing around with the exchange of ideas to help make each other’s product that bit better.

Since he’s the new kid on the block Paul will most likely try and push the bounderies. Today he shares the bean bag with Alex while hatching a cunning plan to “Make it mine”. Mind you, Tewy looks comfy, so Walsh might have a fight on his hands.

Little do they know what they’ve let themselves in for. Only last week they got a sample of Walsh’s playlist. He was on fire, ubber cool. However when the lads questioned his taste… James Blunt, Rick Ashley and Celine Dion - Paul tired to fob it off as my playlist. No truth there what so ever… rock on Metallica.

Paul will bring some flare to the office (almost guaranteed the morning after), at time’s he’ll have fantastic ideas, for example “guys its 6:30, fancy a pint”. Over said pints an issue will be presented which is likely to turn into a brainstorming session. Obviously this will all occur while Paul is at the bar. On his return they’ll change the conversation back to being about him

The benefits of this move include Paul being close to everyone for “impromptu” meetings (lunch) meetups (beers) and business meetings (more beers).

Today he sits in the dark corner, tomorrow he’ll have that window seat, along with the best chair. For now the boys have someone to fetch the coffee

After a skip from Dublin the London, I met up with Paul and caught our connecting flight to Hong Kong. Our carrier Cathy Pacific was fairly impressive.

With Paul being used to the Hong Kong hop he suggested we pick up a few munchies for the flight, a good idea given that the nuts is the only snack between meals. I found it difficult to sleep but managed to nod off for a 15 minute power nap. So, to kill the time we trashed out a few ideas and signed off some Wubud stuff.

What actually worked out very well was the fact that we both had isle seat

In true form, Paul booked us into the wrong hotel. I don’t think he should be allowed to travel beyond Guildford.

Next time, we’re hoping Paul mentions the URL for the website or does a bit more promotion rather than be completely shell shocked by an internet superstar. Thankfully he’s not in the next 60 Minutes Special from Robert Scoble…
