Our weather will change over the remainder of the afternoon, with increasing light rain from the southwest. A surface low developing along the gulf coast will spread light rain in here this evening and tonight. The rain won’t be all that heavy, but we can expect periods of light rain to continue through tomorrow afternoon. The disturbance that is bringing the rain into central Alabama will have a tough time moving out. The bulk of the rain will be gone by tomorrow afternoon, but we will still see some light drizzle at times through tomorrow night. Cloudy skies will remain in the forecast through Sunday.

A mix of sun and clouds returns in the forecast for Monday and Tuesday, with highs warming into the upper 60s. Rain chances will be very low, but I can’t rule out a stray shower or two on Monday and Tuesday. As a cold front moves in Wednesday morning, dry weather takes over and our sky becomes sunny. Temperatures will get rather chilly on Wednesday and Thursday, as highs struggle to reach 60s degrees. A secondary cold front moves in on Thursday, which will give us a chilly day on Thanksgiving and on Friday. If you have plans outdoors, our weather will be dry and mostly sunny, but it will be cold. We could stay in the middle 50s all day on Friday. Lows at night will return in the upper 30s by Thursday and Friday mornings. Be sure to join us tonight at 10 PM for the latest on your forecast.

Lows tonight will be in the 40s, with thickening cloud cover after midnight. An area of low pressure will be tracking across the state tomorrow and this will bring a likelihood of rain. I’m expecting spotty showers early tomorrow and the greatest chance for rain prior to noon will be in areas south of Tuscaloosa. By noon the rain will begin to overspread the area, continuing through tomorrow night. There may be a few rumbles of thunder in places like Demopolis and Centreville late tomorrow. It’s going to be a chilly day, with highs only in the 50s. Tomorrow night the rain will continue with a chilly northeast wind. The chilly flow will continue into early Sunday morning, with rain ending from west to east. Some clouds will linger into Sunday afternoon; however, I expect partly sunny weather to return on Monday.

A moisture starved front will drop in on Tuesday, with a few showers possible late. We will have another blast of continental air next Wednesday. This will drop highs to near 60 degrees, with mostly sunny weather expected. This will make for great travel conditions over the southeastern U.S. In fact, I don’t see a major storm system impacting the country next Wednesday. The dry weather will linger into Thanksgiving, with a sunny day expected. Highs will be near 60, with lows in the 30s. I’m also expecting lots of sunshine for all of Alabama on “Black Friday.” This will be great for the big Iron Bowl game taking place in Auburn. Be sure to join us tonight for more on our local weather.

Tuscaloosa officially dropped to 37 degrees and some areas fell to the freezing mark. Tonight is going to be quite cold again, with lows in the middle 30s. Another advisory is in place for the possibility of frost tonight and some areas north and East of Tuscaloosa may briefly drop to freezing. Tomorrow is going to be a sunny day but changes are coming. Highs will reach the 60s tomorrow, with high clouds entering the state after lunchtime.

At this time all eyes are turning to the developments over the northwest Gulf. A southern stream storm system is developing and this system will spread clouds into the area tomorrow night. The low pressure with this system will pass through the state on Saturday. This will create a good coverage of rain over central and southern sections of the state. Showers will begin early on Saturday over West Alabama and this activity will increase as the day goes on. Look for rain to continue Saturday night and into the morning hours on Sunday. The rain will end from west to east early on Sunday, with colder air settling in Sunday night. Highs will be in the 60s, with lows in the 40s.

On Monday the clouds will break, with some afternoon sunshine. I’m expecting another mix of clouds and sun on Tuesday as a cold front moves in. The front will arrive late on Tuesday and I can’t rule out a few showers. Another blast of cold and dry air will arrive on Wednesday. We will have a return to partly sunny weather, with highs in the chilly 50s. Have a great evening!

Lows will be in the middle 30s and frost will likely develop after midnight. There is a good chance some areas north of Tuscaloosa will briefly drop to freezing during the early morning. We should finally enjoy a mostly sunny sky tomorrow, with highs reaching the 60s. The sky will remain mostly clear through tomorrow night and much of Friday. Lows tomorrow night will be in the cold 30s.

A low pressure area will track across the northern Gulf of Mexico on Saturday. We will have increasing clouds Friday night, with a cloudy sky on Saturday. Some showers will move in on Saturday and this activity will continue into Saturday evening. The greatest amounts of rain will be in areas south of Tuscaloosa. Highs will also be in the cool 60s.

Sunday will start off cloudy with a few showers however, I do expect some clearing as the day goes on. Temperatures will warm into the 60s and Monday should be a milder day. I’m expecting a cold front to bring scattered showers and thunderstorms on Tuesday and this will be followed by colder/drier weather next Wednesday. Have a great evening!

I want to thank John De Block from the National Weather Service for visiting Tuscaloosa today. John is the Warning Coordination Meteorologist for the National Weather Service Office in Birmingham. John provided a presentation on severe weather safety during the morning and a storm spotting course during the afternoon. John also noted that this is winter weather awareness week. From time to time we do get wintry precipitation and extreme cold in Alabama. The National Weather Service has a great site with plenty of winter weather safety tips, click here.

It felt like winter today with temperatures only reaching the 50s. This was a big temperature change from yesterday. The clouds and wind provided an additional chill. Tonight is going to be colder, with lows near 36 degrees. Also, there may be some frosty rooftops tomorrow morning. An upper level disturbance tracking through the Midwest is orienting clouds and colder air in our direction. The clouds will decrease in coverage tomorrow, with mostly sunny weather on Thursday. Our nights will remain quite cold, with highs making a slow recovery into the 60s.

On Friday a low pressure area will develop to our southwest and this will spread clouds and rain into West Alabama late. The storm system will track to our south over the Northern Gulf spreading additional rain into the area on Saturday. This will mean southern communities will receive the greatest amounts of rain. We will be in the northern sector of this storm system which means chilly weather through Saturday. We will have lingering clouds on Sunday, with a better supply of sunshine on Monday. There may also be a few showers early on Sunday. Tune in tonight for more details!

Good afternoon! It appears our weather pattern is going to remain quite progressive over the coming days, with a series of fronts moving through the area. A cold front is currently moving into Central Mississippi and clouds are already moving into West Alabama. Look for a chance of showers tonight as the cold front enters the area. At the time of this update a thin line of rain was entering East Central Mississippi. This line should hold together, with showers possible in our area before midnight. The cold front is part of a much larger storm system. The main low pressure area is located over Missouri and once the front clears our area, we will get a taste of colder air wrapping in from the northwest. Lows tonight will be in the middle top upper 40s, with a 6 -12 mph northwest wind developing.

You can expect a cloudy sky for the start of our Tuesday, with some sunshine during the afternoon. Highs tomorrow will only reach the upper 50s, quite a change from today. You can expect lows in the middle 30s tomorrow night, with a fair sky overhead. Clouds will continue drift through from time to time on Wednesday. Highs will remain in the cool 60s. Look for more sunshine on Thursday, with clouds returning on Friday. Temperatures will recover through the rest of the work-week; however, new data is showing a disturbance forming over the Gulf. This system will bring a chance for rain late Friday and on Saturday. There is a chance this system could march through much slower, meaning lingering rain chances into Sunday.

Don’t forget about the NWS visit tomorrow. We’ve been working with the NWS to schedule a meeting and tomorrow they will be giving two presentations on the UA Campus. First at 11:15 a.m. the NWS will be speaking about severe weather safety. Also, at 1:30 p.m. the NWS will be giving a storm spotting course. This will take place at the Ferguson Theater. It’s a first come first serve event so be sure to get there early so you can get a good seat. I hope to see you there!

The weekend has been very nice, with warm afternoons. Temperatures have been cool at night due to dry air. Dry air heats and cools very effectively, so we’ll deal with another big temperature drop once the sun sets this evening. We can expect lows in the lower 40s, with a calm wind. A cold front approaches Alabama tomorrow night, which will bring clouds in here during the day on Monday. Temperatures will top out in the middle 70s. Rain enters the forecast Monday night and Tuesday morning. We’ll deal with periods of light rain showers. Don’t expect any heavy rainfall totals.

Cooler temperatures can be expected behind the front on Tuesday. Highs will struggle to reach the middle 60s. Lows Tuesday night will bottom out in the lower 40s. Partly cloudy skies and dry weather is in the forecast through the rest of the week and the weekend. Temperatures will slowly moderate into the upper 60s by the weekend. Temperatures will remain rather chilly at night. Be sure to join us tonight for a live newscast on WVUA-TV news at 10.
