rischiarono di far saltare il matrimonio del loro amico Doug. Anche se ancora in cerca dei pezzi mancanti della sua psiche, Stu è finalmente in procinto di sposarsi e, per l'occasione, ha deciso di invitare Doug e Phil ad una sfarzosa (e astemia) cerimonia in Thailandia presso la villa dei futuri suoceri. L'unico problema è che il viziato e pazzoide Alan non si è mai scordato quella fatidica notte a Las Vegas e, venuto a sapere del matrimonio di Stu, fa di tutto per farsi invitare, ansioso di poter passare un'altra notte assieme ai suoi unici amici. A parte qualche screzio fra Alan e il geniale fratello adolescente della sposina e un futuro suocero non proprio entusiasta dello sposo, tutto sembra procedere tranquillo. Finché qualche giorno dopo, arriva la solita telefonata da parte di Phil: “Abbiamo combinato un casino. Un'altra volta".<<br />Contravvenendo al primo e unico comandamento di Las Vegas (“What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas”), la banda di Una notte da leoni ingaggia un altro matrimonio e un'altra notte molesta di ebbrezza ed entusiasmi senza freni, trasportando personaggi, deliri e buchi neri della memoria dai casinò del Nevada ai quartieri più malfamati di Bangkok. E tuttavia, ad essere infranta è solamente la regola omertosa della “città del peccato” e non certamente la legge della serializzazione di Hollywood, quella che vuole che il tipico sequel riproponga gli stessi elementi del capostipite riadattati a una location esotica. La dura ricetta del sequel viene perciò applicata minuziosamente in Una notte da leoni 2: dagli ingredienti del micidiale cocktail del primo episodio (un trio comico perfettamente calibrato), fino al modo di miscelare l'umorismo di una commedia goliardica con la struttura di un noir o di un giallo (come se gli amici di American Pie si organizzassero per un colpo come Le iene di Tarantino). Todd Phillips non abbassa il gomito, anzi, distilla esattamente lo stesso impianto narrativo del primo film (con tanto di prologo ed epilogo), rimodellandolo fra i luoghi comuni sul fascino e sul degrado della Thailandia, come giardini zen e alberghi miserabili.<<br />Ora, se il primo bicchiere era piacevolmente frastornante, al secondo la formula comincia a far salire le prime nausee. La rimpatriata può contare ancora sui tre simpatici compagni di sbronza ma, venuto meno l'effetto sorpresa, sembra che anche i tre viveur lavorino principalmente per inerzia. Ad eccezione di Ed Helms, che non si fa problemi di fronte a qualunque supplizio in nome della risata, Bradley Cooper pare ben felice di mettersi da parte, mentre Zach Galifianakis gioca sulla consapevolezza di saper far ridere recitando anche solo con la barba.<<br />Per il resto, le uniche tessere del puzzle vagamente più squadrate rispetto al primo film virano decisamente verso il pulp: qualche sguaiata sequenza d'azione, dita mozzate, sodomie enarrate, deliri lisergici e una sfida continua alla protezione animali.
