In conjunction with Sammamish KC, Hound Club of Bellingham, Borzoi Club, Saluki Club, our Whippet Club will hold a match. There will be obedience (Sammamish) for fun and practice.

Our own match will be judged by breeder Cheryl Adams of Terrapin Whippets. After the match, we will hold our club picnic with good eats and fun. There might be a raffle! For more info or to RSVP, contact Mary Downing.

On Monday we celebrate 15 yrs. with Monika, along with her brother Am. Can. Ch. Whimsy’s Hahnenkamm, owned by Anne Jacobs. Am. Can. Ch. Val d’Isere has crossed the Rainbow Bridge along with Whimsy’s Courchevel and Whimsy’s Innsbrook, both pointed in the ring.

Monika, the matriarch at Whimsy, is dam to Am.Can.Ch. Whimsy’s Speedwell, Am. Can. Ch. Whimsy’s Pipsissewa, Ch. Whimsy’s Water Lily, and Am. Can. Ch. Whimsy’s New Way to Fly (from 2 litters) and not to be forgotten – our Ambassador of the Breed: Whimsy’s Sweet Pea (Tyler).

There will be practice this coming Sunday – same time 11:00 and same place Cascade Family Fliers Field (see below for info).  The following Saturday the 22nd Sunday the 23rd will be the last practice in May.  Please be sure to check your e-mail prior to coming out to the field.  If there is a cancellation, it will be sent out by 9:00 latest same day as practice.

I hate to belabor the point, but we had three loose dogs at last week’s practice and one that took forever to catch.  Folks, we have to get a grip on losing our dogs.  It can create a very dangerous situation.  Please come prepared to have your dogs confined except when coursing or cooling down.  If you have a new dog that you feel needs to spend some time watching dogs chase the bunny bag, please let me know ahead of time so I can help you do it in from a safe position.  And finally, if your dog does not have good recall and it takes us a half an hour to catch after running the lure, please don’t bring it to practice.  It can be very dangerous for the dog – even tho we are a ways from the main road, we all know how fast sighthounds can cover distance – and it’s very frustrating for the rest of the participants waiting for their turn.

This event is a showcase of the versatility of our wonderful whippets and the other sighthound breeds, and there will be something for everyone!

• Saturday is straight racing – NAWRA for whippets and LGRA and ISWS for other breeds.
• Sunday is all-breed NOTRA oval racing, followed by a conformation match. We’ll have a special class just for Versatility entrants, but also classes for young puppies, adults and veterans, so bring out your youngsters for training and your oldsters to revel in the fun.  ILPs and spayed/neutered hounds welcome! Our judge is Barbara Turpin “Of Course” from Vancouver, BC.
• Monday is ASFA lure coursing. We will offer certification run before the trial!
• At the end of the day on Monday, Versatility awards will be conferred to the top ranked hound in each breed who completes all four events.
• Other fun stuff: a silent auction, brown bag auction, 50/50 raffle, potluck lunches with prizes for best dish, breakfast on Sunday morning, vendors, and plenty of practice opportunities.

We need volunteers to help with a wide variety of jobs. You don’t have to be an expert to help out! We would love to help you learn the ropes, and there are plenty of non-running-related duties to help with.

The local folks from Washington, Oregon made up for most of the entries but we made new friends (The Jones’) from San Diego, CA that made our event even more special.  Our vet Dr. Carl Conroy from Mid Columbia Veterinary Clinic came to see just what all these whippets that come into his clinic do.  He was so impressed with all the wonderful whippets, and dedicated dog people it has made a difference in his attitude toward the “Whippet Athlete”.   His last statement before he left was.  “Boy those dogs are fast”.

Oh, and Glen and I have a special brag… Our Shadow Run Marco is a new ORC as of Saturday when he tied for 1st place with his brother Kelp, with OB in the third place position and DJ in 4th

Our next Double NOTRA is June 5th & 6th and we want to extend an invitation to our friends in WWWA to come on over to the land of sunshine, and have fun with us.
