As one California Democrat prepared to formally endorse Rep. Eric Swalwell for governor this spring, the lawmaker hesitated. They had heard rumors the married father of three slept around in Washington and worried about putting their name behind him in a crucial contest.

This member, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to speak freely, was clear they had not heard about the now-public allegations of criminal sexual assault or relationships with subordinates in Congress, which is a violation of House ethics rules.

But when this member had asked about the rumored infidelity — which Democrats on Capitol Hill widely described to CNN as an “open secret” — they were assured by some of Swalwell’s close friends that all the rumors were “just activities before he was married” and encouraged to formally back him in the race. This person was not alone: Other members also directly questioned Swalwell and his team about what would happen if his history of womanizing in Washington came out publicly, only to be brushed off by his team, another person confirmed.

Weeks later, that California member, along with nearly two dozen others, abruptly withdrew their endorsements as Swalwell faced a torrent of sexual assault and misconduct allegations published by CNN and others.

Swalwell’s downfall was swift. In a remarkable 100 hours, he went from a front-runner in a race to lead the nation’s most populous state to abandoning his House seat in disgrace. His resignation, effective Tuesday, capped a 13-year congressional career, in which he held coveted party positions and was seen by some as part of a new generation of Democratic leadership.

CNN has reached out to Swalwell’s attorney for this story, but did not receive a response. The congressman has repeatedly vowed to fight what he called “the serious, false allegation made against” him.

His exit from both the governor’s race and Congress was the result of an intense, unusually quick pressure campaign from his fellow Democratic lawmakers — notably led by his one-time mentor, former Speaker Nancy Pelosi. This bloc of powerful Democrats, the loudest of whom were women, decided to not only immediately sever ties with Swalwell, but to push him out of Congress for good.

And in an extraordinary — and politically advantageous — move, they worked to ensure that Swalwell would not be the only one punished for serious allegations of sexual misconduct inside the US Capitol. Once the party had officially abandoned Swalwell, they set out to make a bipartisan pact with GOP colleagues to ensure the same consequence would befall GOP Rep. Tony Gonzales of Texas, who has admitted to having a sexual relationship with a former staffer who later committed suicide.

The whisper network hits Washington

The end of Swalwell’s career came into view a few weeks earlier, as vague mentions of his alleged sexual misconduct surfaced online from well-known TikTokers before any survivors officially came forward.

Those online influencers, who were well-known in some corners of the Democratic Party, hinted at women who were claiming to have suffered from Swalwell’s alleged misconduct, including some who had worked for him. One woman, Cheyenne Hunt, is a lawyer and former Hill staffer who once ran her own campaign for a House seat. Hunt said she helped pursue accountability for Swalwell “because the first victim who approached me is a close friend,” as she posted on X on April 6, days before CNN’s first published account.

But, she said, when she learned of others whose experiences “fit the same pattern of manipulation and abuse of power, I knew I couldn’t stay silent.”

These posts by Hunt and others began popping up in the California delegation’s members-only group chat, according to one person familiar with the conversations. None of his colleagues, though, had yet spoken out publicly.

As recently as Tuesday, Swalwell was pressing forward with his bid for the governors’ mansion, holding a “community town hall” during Congress’ spring break from Washington.

Hours after his campaign sought to publicly push back against the swirling social media claims that a number of women would soon come forward with accusations of sexual misconduct, Swalwell took questions from the audience in Sacramento. But it was a civil stop on the campaign trail: No one asked about the allegations, and Swalwell stuck to his usual themes.

But he was soon forced to respond. Speaking to reporters afterward, he fiercely denied the allegations of having relationships with staffers and forcing his team to sign non-disclosure agreements — while suggesting the accusations were only surfacing because of the proximity to the primary.

“Look, we’re 27 days before an election starts,” Swalwell told reporters.

The full extent of those allegations materialized last Friday, as several women went public describing sexual abuse by the now-former congressman. In the following days, women with additional disturbing claims came forward, with one woman publicly alleging Swalwell drugged and then raped her in a hotel room around a political event.

A lawyer for Swalwell said he “categorically and unequivocally denies each and every allegation of sexual misconduct and assault that has been leveled against him.”

Inside the US Capitol, the accusations unleashed a sense of fury and disgust among some senior Democrats, including his long-time mentor, Pelosi, who felt blindsided by the accusations, according to multiple people familiar with the internal discussions.

Not all Democrats, however, were as shell-shocked. In interviews, dozens of lawmakers and senior aides said Swalwell’s womanizing reputation was widely known, though those relationships were believed to be consensual. Several reacted to Swalwell’s decision to enter the governor’s race with an eyeroll, rather than any real concern — just as they did his short-lived presidential bid in 2020.

But when they learned of the new predatory — and in some cases potentially criminal — allegations, top House Democrats decided almost immediately to sever ties.

Hours after the first report surfaced by the San Francisco Chronicle, and CNN soon after, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries privately conferred with his top two deputies, Reps. Katherine Clark and Pete Aguilar. None of them had any direct conversations with Swalwell after the reports dropped — adhering to the party’s strict no tolerance policy since the Hill’s #MeToo push a decade earlier, according to multiple people familiar with the conversations. Instead, they quickly agreed to put all three of their names on a blistering statement calling on him to drop out of the California governor’s race.

Then, as those damning news reports rippled through members’ inboxes on Friday, it was Pelosi who helped put a definitive end to Swalwell’s career in Washington and Sacramento.

Swalwell had been fiercely loyal to the veteran Democrat and was known as “one of Pelosi’s boys” by members and aides during her speakership.

In Pelosi’s four decades in politics, one of her many repeated mantras is that “nothing ever resolves itself.” In this instance as House Democrats faced a growing political storm and a humiliating expulsion vote against one of their own members, Pelosi decided to resolve the Swalwell crisis herself.

The 86-year-old said she had phoned Swalwell and urged him to leave politics — a rare and stunning public statement from the immensely private former House speaker.

In the hours before, she had received phone calls and texts from many of her fellow California Democrats, who wanted to know whether she planned to take action, according to one person close to Pelosi. They knew that Pelosi had been Swalwell’s most important ally in the Capitol and at home. (Multiple Democrats said they were confident that Pelosi was being truthful when she said she had never heard the unsavory accusations against Swalwell.)

In her time leading the party, Pelosi appointed him to powerful panels, including the House Intelligence Committee. In one of her last acts as speaker, she made him one of the faces of President Donald Trump’s second impeachment after the January 6, 2021, US Capitol attack.

“He owed pretty much everything he’s done here to Pelosi,” one senior Democratic aide said of Swalwell.

“She kind of adopted Swalwell” into her northern California family, another senior Democratic aide added. “She saw him as a rising star.”

She also defended him at a key moment in his career: Shortly after he arrived in Congress, US officials investigated Swalwell for his connection to a Chinese spy who was running a secretive operation to gain access to US politicians to gather intel on Washington.

Pelosi and Democratic leadership privately, but immediately, confronted Swalwell about his connection with the suspected Chinese spy and told him to cut all ties. He vowed that he did, was never charged with a crime and later was cleared by a separate House Ethics Committee investigation into the matter.

More recently, Democratic leaders appeared to stand by Swalwell as he was newly in the crosshairs of the Trump administration and allies who were seeking to damage his gubernatorial campaign by reviving the spy claims. The FBI, at the request of the White House, dedicated resources in recent weeks to redact files from the investigation and turned them over to the White House, according to people familiar with the matter.

But on the misconduct allegations, there was no discussion, no back-and-forth with the two colleagues from the same northern California alliance in the state’s famous “five family” factions.

Pelosi was asked Monday evening at a George Washington University event if she had recommended Swalwell step down, but she did not directly answer. Instead, she said resigning was “his decision” and “the right thing to do.”

Once it became clear that top Democrats, including Jeffries and Pelosi, were abandoning the congressman, several rank-and-file members began mobilizing a push to oust him from their ranks.

It wasn’t just about Swalwell. From their homes across the country, several female members phoned their House GOP colleagues to make sure that whatever punishment happened to Swalwell was going to be the same for Gonzales, the Texas Republican facing his own torrent of accusations.

These women from both parties — led by Reps. Teresa Leger Fernandez, a Democrat from New Mexico, and Anna Paulina Luna, a Florida Republican — effectively reached an accountability pact in the narrowly divided House. If the Democrat is punished, then the Republican, will too be punished.

Privately, even some party leaders were involved. Clark spoke with GOP leaders to push for an “expel for expel” resolution to both members’ misconduct, according to a person involved in the discussions. Then, as more accusations came out, it became a “resign for resign.”

A spokesperson for Speaker Mike Johnson’s office denied there was anything coordinated between the two parties at the leadership-level on this issue.

The United States' middle class is wealthier than ever, but those in that category still struggle amid an ongoing cost-of-living crisis.

In a recent study, the American Enterprise Institute revealed that more than 30 percent of Americans have made their way into the upper middle class.

The research published by Stephen Rose and Scott Winship defined the upper middle class as a family of three earning $133,000 to $400,000 per year, reported the Wall Street Journal.

The drastic shift in income distribution, Winship said, has to do with wages increasing more quickly than prices in the past several decades.

But even households whose annual incomes sit comfortably within that range have difficulty visualizing themselves in a high tax bracket.

They see themselves as comfortable, not rich.

'I view myself as an average Joe. I don't have to have a fancy car. I don't have to have the greatest TV,' 58-year-old Randy Shilling told the Journal. 'But when I want something, I go get it.'

Shilling graduated from Texas A&M with a degree in petroleum engineering. He owns a home in Humble, Texas and has a retirement savings of more than $3 million. He and his wife, Nanci, earn $220,000 per year.

Shilling has said he's doing better than his parents did before him, but worries it isn't enough for his 23-year-old son's generation due to the cost-of-living crisis.

'I think they're going to struggle,' he said.

Inflation has led many high-earning families like Shilling's to feel like their impressive incomes are still inadequate. Housing crises and rising costs have made it difficult for many Americans to own a home.

Americans in the Shillings' position still may not be able to afford home ownership or college for their children.

The median price for an existing home in the US is almost $400,000, reported Bank Rate. The average cost of tuition is $38,000 per year.

Laura Shields, 46, told the Wall Street Journal that she only began feeling comfortable with her finances in the past decade.

She and her husband bring in approximately $240,000 per year.

But with their eldest son off to college in just a few years, the couple is worried loans will be required to pay for his education.

'I try not to think about it,' Shields told the Journal.

While demographics of the expanding upper middle class vary, a study conducted by Rose revealed that Americans with a college education have a high likelihood of being included.

According to his research with the Urban Institute, 55 percent of people with a bachelor's degree and 68 percent of people with a graduate degree are included.

As the upper middle class welcomes new member every day, research showed that the lower-middle class is shrinking, creating a larger gap between the poor and the wealthy.

Less than 30 percent of Americans are considered lower middle class by Rose and Winship's standards.

More than 40 years ago, more than 50 percent of Americans were within that threshold.

In 2024, only 19 percent of Americans were considered 'poor or near poor,' compared to 30 percent in 1979.

Rose and Winship defined 'poor or near poor' as families of three that earned $40,000 or less annually.

According to World Population Review, livable wages for most households across the US sit above at least $50,000 per year.

Studies suggest that nine in ten Americans feel crushed by a 'full-blown cost of living crisis,' per Study Finds.

Ludwig Institute for Shared Economic Prosperity chairman Gene Ludwig told CBS last year that the decline of the true middle class and the climbing cost of living are 'really dangerous.'

'It's the kind of thing that leads to social unrest, and it's not fair,' he said. 'The American dream is not that it's given to you — it's that if you work hard, you have a chance to get ahead and achieve the things in life that you want to achieve.'

NASA’S first manned mission to the Moon in 50 years is orbiting Earth after experts resolved several last minute issues before launch.

Artemis II is high in the sky above our planet ahead of its journey into deep space, but this almost wasn’t the case.

The high-stakes mission previously had to be postponed by two months because of hydrogen fuel leaks and clogged helium lines.

Engineers then ran into issues on launch day, facing two technical scares and a one-hour delay before liftoff.

What will the crew of Artemis II eat in space?

The full Artemis II menu has been revealed, featuring 189 gourmet, space-friendly items for the 10-day mission.
Astronauts will dine on meals like barbecued beef brisket, vegetable quiche, couscous, and tropical fruit salad.
All food is shelf-stable and rehydrated in space, with no refrigeration or resupply available onboard.
Menus are carefully designed for microgravity, minimising crumbs while keeping astronauts healthy and energised.
The lineup reflects decades of progress since Apollo-era meals, offering far greater variety and comfort.

At one point, they had to contend with a broken toilet on board the rocket which has since been fixed.

The astronauts will also take readings of their own bodies to see how they are affected by deep space.

This lunar odyssey will send the crew approximately 252,000 miles into space before returning to Earth.

The current record for the farthest is about 248,000 miles, held by the Apollo 13 lunar mission in 1970.

Though they will not land on the surface itself, the Artemis II mission is a crucial step in the plan to establish a $20 billion base on the moon.

Hailing the mission ahead of launch, US President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social: “We are WINNING, in Space, on Earth, and everywhere in between – Economically, Militarily, and now, BEYOND THE STARS.

“Nobody comes close! America doesn’t just compete, we DOMINATE, and the whole World is watching.

“God bless our incredible Astronauts, God bless NASA, and God bless the Greatest nation ever to exist, the United States of America!”

The UK is also playing a key role in proceedings with Goonhilly Earth Station, Cornwall, helping to track the capsule on its celestial voyage.

Upon the resumption of the space race, King Charles said “we must learn from the lessons of have over-exploited and polluted our own planet, and thus care for the universe, and all life contained within it, with reverence and a true sense of what is sacred.”

Is Florida's boom over? Population growth slows down in one local city

Population growth in Port St. Lucie, once the fifth-fastest-growing metropolitan area in the nation, slowed during 2024-2025, according to a recent U.S. Census report, dropping the city to the 14th-fastest-growing metro area.

The Port St. Lucie metro area, which includes Martin and St. Lucie counties, grew by 2.14% last year, according to U.S. Census data. It's the lowest annual percent growth since the post-pandemic population boom, which has averaged 3%.

The Sebastian-Vero Beach metro area, which includes Indian River County, grew by less than 1% last year. Like Port St. Lucie, this also is the lowest annual percent growth over the past five years, which has averaged 1.5%.

Population growth has slowed — or in some cases, reversed — across the nation following a drop in international migration, according to the report.

"The population growth slowed in the Port St. Lucie metro area between 2024 and 2025 primarily because migration gains decelerated," said U.S. Census Bureau spokesperson Mitch Friedmann in a statement. "The area already experiences natural decrease (more deaths than births), meaning it relies entirely on migration to grow."

Net international migration to the Port St. Lucie metro fell by nearly half over that same time period, from 3,646 to 1,818, Friedmann said.

In 2021, net domestic migration to the metro hit a 25-year peak at 17,487, he said. In 2025, net domestic migration was 11,532

Among the 2,066 U.S. counties that grew during 2023-2024, nearly 80% saw their growth slow or reverse direction in 2025, according to a U.S. Census analysis.

The three metro areas with the steepest percentage-point declines in population growth rates were along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Areas where the U.S. experienced growth typically were in Sun Belt states along the southeast coast: Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia.

Ocala has been the fastest-growing metro area in the nation for the past two years.

Is Port St. Lucie's population boom over?

While growth has slowed, Port St. Lucie remains one of the fastest-growing regions in Florida and in the nation.

The state's sixth-largest city, Port St. Lucie is considered a boomtown by financial analysts and has experienced massive real estate development, such as in Tradition and St. Lucie West.

The city's real estate market is ranked No. 7 in the nation for buyers in 2026, according to a recent study by customer-review and news platform ConsumerAffairs.

The dimension of Spirit supersedes the laws

The wife of Alec Baldwin captioned the happy snaps: 'I love that my family came to meet me after my work trip. Such a special time to be here together.'

Indian Creek Village in Miami, Florida, known as the "Billionaire Bunker," offers ultra-exclusive living with tight security and privacy for America's wealthiest individuals.

For a South Florida native, the silence and serenity are what hits you first.

Just a stone's throw from the relentless horn-honking of Surfside and the designer-clad crowds of Bal Harbour Shops, Indian Creek Village exists in a vacuum of enforced peace. There are no sirens or tourists, and certainly no uninvited guests — only the whistle of the Atlantic wind and the rhythmic clap of waves against private piers.

Behind massive entry gates and dense tropical foliage lies a 300-acre fiscal safe haven where America’s billionaires aren't just buying homes, but investing in a sovereign-level of security that Julian Johnston, one of Miami's top luxury brokers, says is now the ultimate commodity.

"It is a political sanctuary. I'd say, also, the security itself is extremely tight. I mean, when you drive up, if you don't have permission to get on, [the police] are actually quite rude, and they tell you to go away," the Corcoran Group agent — who has more than $10 billion in sales under his belt in the area — told Fox News Digital during a private tour of Indian Creek.

"I think Indian Creek is an island unto itself," he continued. "As a community… you've got the marina nearby, you can walk to the Four Seasons and go to the beach, and it's a lower-density construction. So there's not as much traffic, and it's just a beautiful place to live."

Commonly known as the "Billionaire Bunker," successful business leaders and celebrities including Jeff Bezos, Carl Icahn, Tom Brady, Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, Julio Iglesias, Adriana Lima, David Guetta, Don Shula and others have long called Indian Creek home. The ultra-exclusive neighborhood made recent headlines for its newest resident, Mark Zuckerberg, who paid a record $170 million for an under-construction property.

The migration is fueled by more than just sunshine; it is a tactical retreat from a wave of tax-the-rich proposals sweeping through blue-state legislatures like California, Washington and New York. While lawmakers and unions move to enact aggressive new levies on capital gains and unrealized wealth, the "Billionaire Bunker" provides a predictable fiscal fortress.

"Even starting with South Beach and Miami Beach, there's only a thousand homes on the water, approximately… There's only four real islands in this location that the owners own the roads, so you cannot get on without permission," Johnston said. "People covet privacy, security … and so with such limited inventory, prices have risen very fast in the last couple of years."

It’s a stark contrast to the finished, bougainvillea-covered Mediterranean arches of the mansion Johnston showed to Fox News Digital. Though that completed home is not formally for sale, its market price is estimated to be more than double what Zuckerberg paid, due to its specific location and views.

"Fifty percent of the sales on Indian Creek are off-market. There are some that are just thinking about selling, and it becomes known in the community, and they'll start getting offers," he said. "They don't really want to advertise, because that can draw a lot of tire kickers and people that are interested to see the home."

The agent noted that it typically takes one year for plans and permits, and three years to build a significant home on the island. He also explained how Bezos bought a 20-year-old Indian Creek property "in beautiful condition" for $75 million "just for somewhere to sleep" while his other two adjacent lots are being developed for his larger estate.

Driving by their residences, Bezos’ homes had long and winding driveways with iron gates and carefully tailored landscaping; Brady’s home appeared to be an almost entirely glass, gray-toned house from the front, with modern yet chic furniture and art visible through the window panes.

"When Tom Brady started building, he was thinking about selling the house for $80 to $100 million. Now he's turning down offers four or five years later of $200 million," Johnston said as another example.

"Some developers are doing very high-end homes now, but these end-users, they have no budget. So then they'll elevate those finishes even further, and they'll build their dream home," he continued. "I think this neighborhood is not attainable for some of us, including me. I think even some of the owners themselves are shocked."

Socializing on and around the man-made island has seemingly replaced New York City and Silicon Valley boardrooms, as the top agent pointed out changes in the way business deals and venture capital decisions are being made outside of their traditional offices.

"One of my clients . . . he’s a VC, he’s worth about $14 billion, and he would walk out in Manhattan, he'd go, ‘I put on my bulletproof vest, I go to war. . . Down here, I go out in shorts and a T-shirt, I walk on my conference call to a coffee shop, I finish that, I do another meeting… I found more peace with my life, I'm just as efficient,’" Johnston recalled.

With more than half of $1 trillion in combined net worth living on Indian Creek, it’s solidifying itself as the epicenter of a permanent wealth migration. However, the juxtaposition of the billionaires’ playground and an exceedingly risky market for average buyers is wide — UBS’ Global Real Estate Bubble Index for 2025 recently put Miami in the No. 1 spot for the real estate market with the highest bubble risk on Earth, surpassing the peak of the 2006 housing bubble.

But Johnston argues that the trickle-down effect is funding massive public works, like high-speed transit and nearby affordable housing for the island's vast support staff.

"I think it’s only going to benefit Miami greatly," he said. "It has become more expensive, and there's been some push away from that. But the city is doing something about it, developers are reacting to it, and there are peripheral areas now that are getting built out with beautiful retail and bus services and public transport, and I think it's only going to make the city better and better."
