When drummer Max Weinberg had to miss several tour dates this year because of his commitments as "Tonight Show" bandleader, his 19-year-old son, Jay, took over behind the drum kit.

Spinach and mushrooms are not the main ingredients of a burrito. Most places do not even offer such weird options. (I've seen too many burritos wrecked this way at La Taqueria to not say anything when this woman decided to mention her regular order in the Times as though it was a normal burrito.)

Sam Lipsyte, author of the brilliant Home Land is on episode 10 of Marc Maron's podcast (iTunes link). They are apparently good friends. Lipsyte reads the first page of his forthcoming book (awesome) and he talks about holding Maron while he cried after roasting Chevy Chase. This made my morning.

This was terrible.

I don't care if the pitcher did allow the next four guys to reach base. That catch should have ended the game.

An outfielder should never catch a fly ball underhand unless he's making a miraculous catch. This guy should have made a sliding catch to make sure that he was catching the ball with his glove up. (What, you didn't know that that is the reason for most sliding catches, to make sure the ball is being caught with the glove up?) You never want to be caught in the in-between spot, and then have the ball you just missed hit you in the dick.

Also:

A. Are Vlad and Manny carrying canni cards or what?

B. And watching Vlad be old is like . . . I don't know, watching Morgan Freeman attempt to bag groceries?
I'm sorry. It's not quite that bad. It's more like watching Hollyfield when he was old but you knew that he still might be capable of killing someone and then he got his ears bitten off for no reason.

They probably should have known that something like this would happen when they decided to move to Whorekill.

On Christmas Eve he summoned all the Whorekills inhabitants together, took their arms from them, and informed them of his instructions from Baltimore to destroy everything on fifteen minutes' notice "that he must not Leave one stick standing." His men set fire to the place, standing guard to prevent anyone from rescuing even a single possession. This is stupid. See the engineering student at the beginning of the video, hunched over his computer next to a huge map of Middle Earth? This policy was caused by someone like that. Someone so certain that he will not have sex all year and so intimately involved in a computer game that he won't do his roommate the courtesy of leaving the room to watch TV in the lobby for fifteen minutes. I applaud the asshole students whose answer to this is basically, "Try and stop me."

The school where I work now, on the other hand, doesn't worry about stuff like this. They just have nationally-televised gang bangs and that hope nobody hits their head on a bunk bed.

The Hurt Locker may be the best war movie ever. And I don't feel stupid saying that because it's certainly better than Saving Private Ryan and Letters From Iwo Jima.

Yesterday's flap over CIA interrogators threatening detainees with power drills and mock executions reminded me of a joke from my high school days.

When hearing that Mapplethorpe had put a crucifix in a jar of urine and feces, I exclaimed, "Mapplethorpe did that?!" My friend mockingly responded, "Sure, shoving a bullwhip up a man's rectum and hanging a picture of it in a gallery is fine, but putting a representation of the almighty in a jar of urine is just wrong."

In the same way, it makes no sense to be surprised by anything new we hear about CIA interrogations.

OPINION AND ORDER

This is a case about an advertising battle between two major consumer products companies over one company's comparison of its beverage to human sweat. That company advertises its beverage by promoting its inclusion of certain electrolytes contained in sweat, and its competitor wants it to stop.

In late March 2009, the defendants The Coca-Cola Company and Energy Brands Inc. (collectively, "Coca-Cola") launched a reformulation of its Powerade sports drink beverage called "Powerade ION4." Powerade ION4's main point of differentiation is that it is allegedly more like human sweat than both old Powerade and plaintiff Stokely-Van Camp's ("SVC") flagship product, Gatorade Thirst Quencher, in particular because Powerade ION4 includes small quantities of calcium and magnesium, small amounts of which are lost in sweat. On April 13, 2009, SVC filed this action against Coca-Cola for false advertising, trademark dilution, deceptive acts and practices, injury to business reputation, and unfair competition under the Federal Trademark Act of 1946, as amended, 15 U.S.C. §1051, et seq. (the "Lanham Act"), as well as New York state law. SVC also filed this motion to enjoin Coca-Cola from continuing to make allegedly false and misleading claims in its advertising for its Powerade ION4 product. SVC protests various advertising claims about Powerade ION4 and its inclusion of calcium and magnesium. It also complains about Coca-Cola's referring to Powerade ION4 as "The Complete Sports Drink," although it concedes it would be perfectly fine for Coca-Cola to refer to Powerade ION4 as "A Complete Sports Drink."
